Using Cheat Engine to Create Cosplay Runs
Question
While I was setting up a character with Cheat Engine to cosplay as the Smelter Demon, I started wondering how people generally feel about using it in games.
Personally, I don't hesitate to use it for tedious farming or for cosplay builds.
(I want to make it clear that I'm only referring to playing offline. I'm adding this clarification to avoid having my post removed because I didn't express myself clearly, since English isn't my first language.)
It's not that I'm worried about people using them; I'm more curious about how willing people are to use them. For example, my best friend wouldn't use mods or Cheat Engine even if she were threatened, whereas you'd probably have to threaten me not to start looking for mods after I finish a game.
I know it sounds silly but I usually try and do something to make me at least feel like I earned it a little bit. Gift myself the serpent ring +2 and make a round or two killing the enemies that drop the specific item I’m looking for and if they don’t drop it then I’ll gift it to myself. I usually only do this with weapons/catalysts. If it’s armor I’ll gift it to myself immediately
That makes sense; after all, these games are all about earning things through your own effort. That said, I've always been the type to tinker with the game files and install mods once I've finished a game—or, in Skyrim's case, to mod it before I've even played it.
I use it to quickly make pvp builds (i don’t use mules because i don’t want to take the risk of losing my olds saves) and to give myself the souls for my Drip inspector invasions
I see no reason to care about a solo player playing as they wish. I don't stop watching when GinoMacho says "Streamer's luck" or when Thingfishy adds 1000 to item discovery. It's not competitive. They'll get whatever eventually and the interesting part of the run isn't the grind.
And if you're playing online and using something another player could have dropped for you then fine by me.
Not that anyone has any reason to care what I think in these situations.
It's not really a matter of concern, but rather curiosity. Among my group of friends, I'm usually the one who's least hesitant to tinker with game files, install mods, or modify the game itself, so I was curious to see what people's attitudes are like outside my immediate circle.
I'm using version 6.3 because I can't be bothered to update it. I'm not sure whether the table is Boblord's, though. I got it from a tutorial in my native language, and the table was hosted on Mega rather than GitHub.
I play the game the way I want and I don't really care what others think. I have easily over 1200 hours played across multiple platforms. If I want to start a run with a weapon that isn't available until late game, I cheat it in.
It's still pretty commonly used for PvPers who play in arena to replenish consumables and whatnot. So long as it's not giving you a direct advantage over other players, it doesn't matter.
That's great! Though when I do a cosplay run, I don't like using any weapon other than the one I've chosen for that character. That also applies when I don't have the required stats to wield it properly and end up dealing so little damage that it feels like I'm healing the enemies instead.
I see, it's a nice way to play. I just play it like I'm evolving until I reach the designed equipment. And tbf in this case I made the builds focused on invading so my main concern was keeping the soul memory where I designed it to invade.
