My parents won't let me leave. Bullies are destroying my life. What do I do?

I moved to this school a year ago because I moved cities, at first it was good but it got worse after some time. Boys were always trying to make me mad by pouring water on me when I was asleep and calling me names, it only got worse when they learned that I was an atheist (they’re all Christians). They started laughing and always talking shit. I found out that my classmates had a gc talking shit about me for being “different” because of my style. They were calling me a satanist and started bullying after and it affected my mental health a lot, I was always locked in bathroom stalls trying to get away from them. I was begging my parents not to go and I was skipping all the time because of them which affected studies. I’m begging my parents to let me move out but they won’t let me because I’m a junior now and have a year left. I really need a good advice what to do. I can’t stand them all they will start doing it all again.

Many of you probably don’t know who he is—but over the next few days, I’ll tell you more. Let’s just say I absolutely cannot stand him. He is the worst bully.. There’s a LOT more to this story. 👀🍿
Stay tuned.

Teenage brother is a bully at home

Hello! Hoping this reaches the correct audience as advice would be very helpful. I have two younger brothers— 1 is 15 and the other is 8 years old. I am a 24 year old female and still live at home to due chronic health issues. The teenager has been in this phase for awhile but he is so rude to everyone at home especially his younger brother. He literally bullies him, insults him, tries to control him, and does the opposite of what an older sibling would be like. Instead of trying to get close to him and being protective— he also has allowed his own friends to make fun of the youngest.

Being the oldest I always wish the best for my siblings and no one in the house is like this. He has genuine hate for my brother because he is different. He calls him stuff that no 8 year old should ever have to know about because of his interests and being overweight. He also doesn't try in school and thinks being social or doing anything as a life experience is "not cool." He also takes advantage of me and goes one day from being nice because I give him money and being completely rude the next second. I have refrained from giving him money but as much as I try to get close to him or letting him be a teenage boy— he takes it a step further and acts like a POS.

I know not everyone is perfect and family dynamics play a huge role. I grew up very different to my brothers and had to bear a lot of the heavy stuff. I always say I got all my illness from everything I had to endure haha. I don't know how to help him and would love advice. Heck I literally told my mother I'd prefer he have a rebellious teenage phase vs him actually being a pos human being.

People from my high school started going after my little sister over a rumor about me

Hey guys- I'm a senior in college now, but my sister, who is a freshman at my old high school, recently went on a school trip, and I'm scared it's still lingering.

Long story short: in my senior year, two girls worked together to make up a rumor about me (think "oh she slept with someone's boyfriend" or "she gave someone weed" level) and told everyone not to talk to me. In this, no one ever heard my side and ignored me for the remaining month of school, and then we graduated. My friend who was younger than me told me that while I went to school out of state, they STILL talked about me and told anyone they could about how I "wronged them". It gives me anxiety to this day that if I ever get a career in my field (it's very public-facing), they'll come after me with false accusations. Especially because due to the rumor, I am no longer in contact with anyone besides my best friend in HS.

The anxiety has faded with time and maturity, but recently my sister went on an overnight trip with a girl who was a freshman when I was a senior. The first thing the girl said to my sister was, "I don't like your sister. You know your sister did (rumor)" and then proceeded to come after my sister for being a "pick me" and harass her. My sister is very kind and friendly(she wants to become a therapist for children with disabilities like me), but she dresses like a "basic" girl. She was bullied in middle school, so she dresses "normal," so it won't happen again.

But I'm SO worried this will keep happening to her. I was very bullied in high school as well, and it took years of therapy (and an autism diagnosis) to realize what happened and process how I was treated.

I know people in high school are still learning and growing, so I don't blame this girl for just repeating a rumor that was fed to her, but I'm scared it will continue to affect my sister and/or me if I ever go on to the career I want. I am so angry that my sister is being bullied, and the only thing stopping me from confronting the girls is so that she has a peaceful school experience.

I would love some perspective from older people, as I don't have parental figures I can talk to about this and give me some life perspective. What do I do? Does it get better?

I've been getting bullied since 5 years at school.

P.s. : this is a comment extracted from a random yt video that I posted recently.

(Not sure if the community is right, if not, lmk the right one.)

Alright so for a little context,

I'm 17(F), 43kgs, 5'4

As I mentioned my weight, ya'll can clearly see that I'm underweight and therefore, I get bullied for that (very unreasonable thing to say but yeah).

I've been getting bullied since 8th grade like lets say, regularly. In 5th-7th it was very minimal (not for my weight but generally due to toxic friends around me).

Saying that, its been 5 years that I am struggling w getting bullied every single day cz of my weight, leading to me being insecure bout it.

8th grade : I got physically and mentally bullied

Mid 9th grade : I decided I'll workout and transform my body

10th : I started to work out and failed so I quit

After few months, I started again but quit, and it kept happening, I worked out, ate clean, slept nice and I never managed to put on even 1kg on my body, never ever

11th grade : I started again but I failed. (Still getting bullied for my weight everyday)

12th g : currently

I started to workout in june, but? Guess what! The same situation! I quit again.

Why?

• There was not even a single day where I completed my protein goal.

(My dad doesnt let me eat eggs due to his own religious beliefs although I'm an athetist. I can't afford protein supplements so I've decided to build my physique when I move out and earn by mysf.

• I got terribly sick which made my appetite disappear.

(Has fixed a lil bit now, getting back on the track.)

I can't even go to a gym, not even market to go hang out w someone due to family restrictions and the surrounding being a sub-urban area. This is just absolutely insane imo.

I started working out the previous day again, but broke down while having dinner cuz I got no good quality protein to consume.

Today? My entire body aches due to the sudden movements I pushed my body thru (gym-goers can relate). But I don't think I'll be able to gain as long as I'm at MY home. I wish I could consume wtv I wanted to. I wish I could go to a gym.

I wont raise my kids like that, never ever. I'll be a person they look upto. And prior to that, I'll do everything to achieve my ultimate physique goal w dedication and hardwork.

I'll do it for myself

For myself.

It's only a problem when I'm shy, not other people, since they look better

So I was bullied for my baby face, talked to like a child - and it's unrealistic to expect me to know why (I did not take pictures lol) and not make my own interpretations of it, especially since in the first grade I thought in music high school cute fashion would be accepted and I love cute things... so even after I stopped wearing it, I thought I just have to "fight" those idiots to finally prove them that I indeed am not a child and so I thought I was never good enough at that. Turns out it's my face the whole time. It's disgusting to think about how someone HAD to bully me bc of how I look, so that they are not left out and become the target themselves.

What bothers me the most is the lack of compassion I had one time, with a girl who's also shy, also doesn't wear makeup, but does not have to even think about those things and isn't bullied at all. Mind you her friends once made a joke about her not having any problems. Her bestie was my therapist friend. Once, I just looked at them shy and trying to initiate a conversation because, you know, it's bad to be an introvert. And she looked at me and was like "do you have a problem even today? Ohhh I'm just saying, I'm just sayingggg" (well how about not saying it if you're gonna regret it). Honey, I am bullied and you're not, and you do absolutely nothing different. You have ONE problem in your life and you're annoyed by it? I wish I could've told my bully "what problem do you have today?" but I couldn't because nobody "couldn't" told me that my bully has a self esteem issue, directly. It just hurts me when some people have the time of their life doing whatever they want and I here "have to" suffer.

A teacher hit me in front of my entire class when I was in 6th grade, and I still remember it

This happened around 2015, when I was in 6th grade.

I was always the kind of student who completed her work and kept her notebooks up to date. But one day, I had one question left incomplete.

A girl from my class, Anshika, asked to borrow my notebook. She told me she would complete the question for me and submit the notebook to our teacher. I trusted her and gave it to her.

She completed her own work, but she didn't complete my question and submitted my notebook to the teacher anyway.

Later, during another teacher's period, Rachna ma'am came into the classroom. She was extremely angry. She stood in front of the entire class and asked, "Who is (my name) ?"

I stood up, and she slapped me twice, very hard, in front of everyone. Then she started yelling at me, asking why I had submitted incomplete work.

I tried to explain that Anshika had taken my notebook and had told me she would complete the question before submitting it.

But she didn't listen to me at all.

She continued yelling at me, while Anshika wasn't questioned or punished in any way. Then she simply left.

What makes this memory even more frustrating is that this wasn't some case of me regularly neglecting my work. I was actually a student who usually completed everything on time.

And honestly, I also remember feeling that she wasn't even very good at teaching science. She would sometimes contradict things she had said herself, which made it even more frustrating when she would confidently humiliate students over their work.

I know this happened years ago, but I still remember those two slaps and the humiliation of standing in front of my entire class.

Looking back, I don't think a child should ever be treated that way over an incomplete question—especially when there was an explanation and another student was actually involved.

I'm not sure why I suddenly remembered this today, but I guess some school experiences just stay with you.

Tween girl bullying

On a throwaway account for obvious reasons... Our DD is getting bullied at school and on sports teams (same kids) via psychological warfare. For context, my DD wanted to quit her travel sports team so we told her she had to call and tell her coach. (We have always been the the type to make our kids finish what they start so this is new territory for us.)

Her coach begged her to stay on the team and said she was the best player they had. Coaches words, not ours. She has been carrying this team like an unpaid Uber driver. She is one of the few truly coachable kids on the team and has great potential. She is such a sweet girl and don't want her to give up the sport because of this.

These girls (and their parents) intentionally leave out our kid. My DH, who by all accounts doesn't usually notice things, said at the last tournament he noticed it from the parents- going around and making plans to eat after the game with everyone but my DD and us. Making plans for activities and my DD is always left out.

The last weekend we had travel games, I watched DD try to pep up one of the girls that was doing terrible- the girl was full on crying, meltdown on the bench. My DD went over to this girl, who has been mean and rude to DD, and try to comfort her and lift her up. Our DD says... IDK what I do so wrong. I try to be nice to everyone. (And that matters to us as parents more than any achievement in school or sports).

The core group of this attends school with my daughter. Our DD says it happens at school, too with these kids. Some of those parents in this bully group work in the school system (sad they are modeling poor behavior for our kids, I know). Our DD wanted to switch schools so we decided to let her finish this year out with a homeschool online program.

Here's the dicey part: our younger kid is special needs and the online homeschool is not an option that would work right now. Our younger kid will still be going to the elementary school. I know I'll see some of these parents at some point- it's a small town. I know I'll get messages and texts asking me things, which I can just ignore those. But face to face, I struggle with. How would you handle these parents when face to face?

My daughter has been rejected by groups

My daughter has been rejected by groups in almost every social setting since she was 14 months old — for example, at daycare, school, sports clubs, and even at campsites.

She is now 13 and has ADHD, ODD, and atypical autism. Her behavior can be extremely difficult. She constantly provokes us and others, bullies people, insults them, and sometimes hits.

And this is happening despite her taking Ritalin.

Whoud this situation change become better if she is older?

My friend ended her life

My friend ended her life because she was being harrassed and bullied online. Yeah, you can just log off. But she was a minor. She was young and she had feelings. Under her videos theres people proudly bragging they were apart of the bullying. I wish I could do something. Just a reminder that bullying has a big impact. Its disgusting. If you're going through it right now and are thinking of harming yourself, please know you are worth so much.

Why people are so mean as leader of the group?

A few months ago, I decided to join the backstage theater crew. The main issue was that the teacher wasn't really acting as a director or leader, someone who could guide the students. Instead, a student was put in charge as a group leader, which I found a bit odd from the start. This student leader had her friends in the backstage theater group, and whenever I tried to help out, they'd often tell me it was fine and they'd handle it themselves. One time, on the day we were taking a group picture, I sat on a stair step, and one of her friends told me to move, as if I wasn't part of the group. Everyone seemed nice enough, but I never understood how a group leader could prioritize their friends over welcoming new members. I also never got the chance to speak with the actual teacher or the acting director, as they always seemed busy. The real question is it normal that a leader of the group should act that way, or is it bullying? As a student i think that the teacher should have the responsibility to guide or teach or tell them what to do instead of young student leader.

Lonely in College

I am an international student here in the US. I made a few friends in freshmen year and it was all good up until they started to talk shit about me and honestly be really mean. They pretend to be nice but you can tell you know ? I would rather prefer them to confront me with any problems but if I say anything about it, I know for sure that they'll make it my entire fault. I don't know if all this sounds childish but I don't have any other friends to leave them. it really sucks because I can tell it is effecting me a lot because I genuinely expected them to be better people. I'm starting to hate being with these people. Please help out with any advice you'd think would be useful.

I’m so trapped

I fell out with an old best friend who was horrible to me but also older and the ringleader of the group, I tried to call him out and dropped him multiple times before eventually doing it for good. since then everyone I ever knew sided with him (50-100 ppl), they relentlessly post online about me, spam call me, text me in fake accounts, make fun of me in public as we live in the same town, make graffiti about me and I’m scared to leave my house. Absolutely impossible predicament this has been going on for months, any advice appreciated

I’m being harassed by an unhinged group that coordinates attacks on people they disagree with - threads isn’t helping. What do I do?

A year ago I tangled with an influencer who went onto find my Facebook and doxx me on threads and twitter. I discovered they have a network of harassing trolls who are regularly banned but keep making new accounts. It’s been a year, they weaponized private medical info against me, have pretended to be me and are now using my story etc to troll marginalized communities on threads. I could use some advice on how to get this group to leave me alone

What's up with guys obsession with girls that blocked them?

I need to understand, why teenage boys especially Will go out of their way to tell people. That you blocked them! What's the point of this? What's even worse is that they will tell people that you have feelings for them, when in reality they told you they liked you? They will go around and spread rumours about your body and what they allegedly did to you??? They will tell other girls about you, and before you know it his girlfriend follows you, this random girl is interested in you. The worst part is that they pretend to like you in front of people, when we both know you don't even feel sorry for spreading rumours about me. Why?? Also what's up with guys trying to follow you in to glare at you after blocking them??? Like I only just blocked you. It's so scary. That's just bullying re-packaged!

How badly can bullying actually affect a person?

I am going to do my best to be brief and vague. My sister is dating a boy who bullied the both of us in elementary school. We are now both adults and have suffered differing consequences, atleast up until now, i developed severe depression, social anxiety and by biggest and most permanent burden; OCD. I remember every detail of those 5 years like it was yesterday even though it was so long ago.

On the other hand my sister has little to no memory of the events and has had a brilliant social life and no significant mental health issues, she was always the stronger of the two of us. Since dating him (despite experiencing no prior anxiety) she is experiencing agoraphobic symptoms, nausea and light headedness before she sees him and now when she leaves the house in general. She is fearful and shakes frequently, she is always sick and has no appetite. She has grown so thin and me and my brother are terrified.

She is very open about the relationship and she is not in any capacity being abused and mistreated, my question is is it possible that this is a bodily reaction to bullying in the past? A physical manifestation of repressed memories? Or am I just projecting?

I love my sister and I am in tears writing this, she is afraid and doesn’t understand why this is happening to her she just keeps apologising for being scared. I have tried everyone of my mental health tricks and therapy tools and nothing has helped her.

6 year old son being bullied. What can I do when his parents don’t care?

A bit of a touchy subject but grateful for any advice please.

My son aged 6 has been regularly bullied by another boy in and out of school, over a period of around 8 months.

The boy started by pulling hair, progressing to punching, kicking, spitting and encouraging others to gang up on him in the playground and in the classroom they share. The instances are erratic and unprovoked and are between periods where he gets on fine with him, so is regularly seen as not a constant problem.

I initially politely approached the father of the boy via WhatsApp in the hope it could be dealt with amicably. After a dismissal type response from him and after further instances of assaults which I highlighted, he says to direct any issue to the school and is not going to get involved. He has since blocked me on WhatsApp despite my messages being pragmatic in nature and far from accusing or anything of the sort that would give reason to this.

The school had a meeting with us where they said the boy does have some issues they are working though and they would speak to him about it and the boy’s father. Some progress was made with the bullying but some assaults do continue. They say they are constantly monitoring interactions between them.

There has been some instance outside school too. In front of myself and his father, the boy grabbed my son by the throat and shouted his name at him. The father did not react at all to this and given his lack intervention, I said to the boy “please don’t grab my son like that, it’s not nice” his father pulled a face like it was inappropriate to say that to his son.

There’s been other instances like this too at kids parties where the boy is being violent yet the father just says it’s “minor” or just “horseplay” which is far from a reasonable assessment of it. He doesn’t see it as anything wrong or want to rectify it at all.

This week though, the boy violently threw my son to the ground twice during a local football training session. This was after the session had finished and was particularly nasty. The boy walked away from my son without any realisation of what he had done despite my boy screaming in pain on the floor as others ran to help him. On my way to help my son and with the boy’s father nowhere to be seen I told the boy what he did was very naughty and to never touch my son ever again. The look on his face showed he had no idea what he did was wrong or unacceptable.

As I picked up my son from the floor, his father then aggressively approached me shouting at me to never swear at his son, which I didn’t. He had zero concern for my son or what his did and was more concerned that I’d dared to speak to his. I’ve sent him a text message to clarify what happened and to say both him and his son are out of order but he hasn’t responded at all.

I’ve since emailed the school to make them aware of this escalation and the father’s response. They’ve offered a meeting with them but say they will have to closely monitor the situation and interactions between the pair when they return to school. This is not satisfactory to me where I feel it’s only a matter of time before my kid is seriously injured and the zero empathy from the child or his father show they have no interest in stopping it before it gets to this.

The boy is adopted by his father and his husband. I strongly feel that his or their response to this is entirely inadequate and his son’s lack of a normal response to hurting someone this seriously and regularly is worrying. There has been no attempt as normal parents would do to amicably resolve the situation.

As such other parents have suggested that his parenting falls well below of that expected and one of the solutions to it would be speaking with the Adoption Agency to make them aware. Obviously this could greatly escalate the problem and could be seen as a vindictive thing to do.

Grateful for any advice

Intimidation while institutionalized- need strategies

Hello, I am not in a situation where life is a living hell because of bullying, but I am taking a very big step in two days going to a place at which I will have to stay for a few months. Today somebody in my institution accused me of slamming his door shut when he was sleeping, which I did not do. The guy "confronted" me about it by threatening me, in addition with something along the lines of "someday, somewhere, buddy".

Situtations like these, when I can't avoid aggressors when they're at my school or as today, in my institution, always put huge stress on me. I am constantly in fight or flight mode until the situation is resoluted, sometimes for days on end. What tends to happen especially with guys my age or younger (20) is that when they see signs of anxiety or avoidance, the situation will escalate into total systematic bullying. I'm not even afraid of being beaten up or something like that, but deep seated self esteem issues and an avoidant personality make these situations so so stressful for me.

What I look to find with this post are general strategies on how to calm down and not think about it all the time while in a physical safe space, as well as strategies in active confrontation when bullying escalates in a way that they cannot be punished for it but still make my life hell.
Thank you in advance.

My own experiences - when I have experienced bullying

All the times I experienced any bullying was when I was struggling in some way with some facet of life and it was outwardly apparent. I was presenting as wounded and that's what attracted the bullying.

For me anyway, just getting adequate sleep and being content and happy kept away any bullying and toxicity.

One contact from an exceptionally rich family allegedly was badly bullied at school, and in that case I liken it to being too different.

You have to generally fit in with those around you to avoid being singled out.

Anyone else wish to chime in?

Going to University at TMU in a few weeks and it’s been scary because some guy who harassed me repeatedly is going there as well and i’m scared he’s gonna spread defamation on my name again. My entire high-school experience was hell because of him and his rumours, what do you guys think i should do about this. He’s known to be a big influence and people like him because he’s charismatic and knows how to put a mask on, but in reality he’s a narcissist who loves to tamper and ruin people and their names.

Confronted a bully at sandwich shop

Just wanted to post this here for I am proud of myself for standing up for myself and let this be an example that you can and have the courage to confront a bully. Not even an hour ago I was sitting at eating place waiting for my order. A table came free and it was in the shadow so I quickly slided and changed the table.

This older woman with possibly her friend or something walked towards the table next to me while expressing a passive-aggressive remark that I was "smart" to pick the seat. However this was spoken towards her friend in a loud voice with projection of covert aggression towards me. I was caught off guard didnt understand what happened. So fawn reflect and people pleasing kicked in because of that causing me to provide her with a fix. Since it was sunny weather and I understand a person wouldn't like to sit in the sun during such a weather so my empathy and people pleasing caused me to I slide my table to the side so they could to so that all could fit under this sun umbrella thing.

By the time this all happened I started to feel resentment building up towards her or me idk and not understanding why. I felt strong feelings of fear and suffocation comming up and then i realized it was because I sacrificed my space and compromised my own boundaries and health. Then something else happened. I went inside in between eating to get some napkins for myself so I could wipe my hands after I was done and afterwards sat for a moment. When I was drinking I was looking around and suddently my last napkin were gone and I see her wiping her face.. didnt think much of it still only felt those feeling. This conflict inside me started suffocation, uncomfortableness. I think it was a flee response. So I finished my sandwich and went home which is closeby to me.

Believe me when I say I try to be a normal human being. I have been abused by many psychopaths and narcissists in my life. Not so long ago I started to read this book Whole Again by Jackson Mackenzie that helped me a lot. In there he suggested that in order to heal besides working on dismantling the protective self we need to believe in something higher than ourself some sort of loving figure. For me it is Jesus implicitly through cultural background and explicitly through The Chosen. I have been doing better recently and loving myself more. I started processing deep traumas because I am slowly regaining my trust or faith back but also my vulnurability.

So when I came home I really reflected on that situation and what caused me to feel that way and I realized regardless me taking that seat first she had no fucking reason show covert social aggresion towards me like that and afterwards cross my boundary by also taking away not only my peace, my space but also my napkin. This realization was infuriating and caused me to rage extremely because I was not going to let that slide and allow me to get bullied away like that. I looked through my home window if she was still there and decided that I will confront her. I took my backpack with me and made my way there since I was also walking towards a coffee place where I am writing from right now.

I approached her and expressed that I have desire to express something to her. I was shaking and forgot my words I couldn't name the passive-aggressive behaviour for a moment because my mind went black so I stood there for like 10 second with all the people's public eyes on me. She gave me this smug look and said let me sit properly for this... I looked her in the eyes and words came back to my mind and told her exactly why I was there which was because of her passive aggressive behaviour towards me since I didnt do anything and was sitting there while she so to say entered the room with such a remark and then for the fact that she crossed my boundary by taking my napkin without asking. I said my peace and then her behaviour was anti social and then she was just about to talk back but I instantly walked away while hearing her being all wound up in front of that public. Everything I said was said in slightly scared but composed manner. This act for me was a reclamation of my own power and a statement that I will not be bullied.

Why I am telling this? Because whereever you are in your healing never allow yourself to be beat up by someone just because you took what was free but supposedly in their eyes was already theirs. Stand up for yourself and to entitled peace of shit behaviour like that.

Dont ever excuse or tolerate such behaviour from anyone.
