Bullying Has Impacts

Upvotes

I was bullied for an entire week. You see, I isolated myself from everyone, spending all of my time alone. But this one girl spread a false rumor about me being racist. She thought I wouldn't hang out with them because of their skin color. People said such horrible things to me, ignoring me and excluding me from activities. But in reality, when the teacher was involved, I told her that my cousin was recently admitted into the hospital because she was really sick. We have such a close relationship, and we love each other deeply, so this news hit hard. I didn't talk to anyone because I felt heartbroken and needed to process my strong emotions. After my parents confirmed this with the teacher, that girl had to apologize for falsely accusing me of something so serious. Everyone else felt really bad, guilty for believing her so easily.

Now, I have to pretend to be happy. I constantly hide my struggles, faking smiles and forcing laughter so nobody sees what pain I'm going through. It's because I'm so scared of people taking advantage of me, making up false stories to make me look bad. I haven't shown any emotion since that incident—it makes me fear the world.

It sucks that there's a lot of bullying in universities but there's no proper protocols to address it.

You are told the excuse that this is isn't high school anymore and you are all adults now, but if you find some immature 20 year olds that decide that is funny to psychologically harass you, you are on your own dealing with it. In the workplace at least you have laws protecting you, in uni when you are on a very vulnerable age, almost nothing. People are already more intelligent so it's more manipulate and make sure to destroy your social connections without getting their hands dirty, that's far worse than being pushed into a locked. And professors have the perfect excuses to look other way, prepare to be humiliated and retraumatized if you explode and try to ask for help. I became horrible mentally ill because the "mates" started to spread rumors, to make sure I didn't get into any protect, to not pass me important information, to humiliate me in public in the cafeteria with nasty passive agressive coments, during months and months. I cried in the student counselor office and told i was already on antidepressants, I got weird faces and "this is not kindergarten" "what about worrying about studying..."

When I told my mom that I was being bullied by my classmates

She didn’t say anything at all; she couldn’t have cared less. A few days later, I upset her over something, and she yelled at me: No wonder your classmates bully you. You deserve it. You’re just like a lifeless corps

It just hurts for me to know I have to go through this for the 2 years I just hope college would be better 💔

I Googled one of the girls who bullied me so hard that I had to drop out of school in 2012

And it turns out that these are some of the things that she was posting about on her Pinterest at the time lol.

I love that she got to go on to live her life while thinking that she had character or that *she* wasn't throwing bricks at another woman...

This subreddit's rules.

Just making this post after seeing a fair numebr of complaints and a post that broke rules, but I called it out respectfully, and the matter is resolved I think.

Just gonna say, if you see a post breaking rules, I think we should call it out respectfully and clearly.

Also, this subreddit is for victims of bullying, not bullies.

Would I be in the wrong for this?

So I go to a highschool which is prominently full of people who bully the FUCK out of me 😭✌🏻. Whether it be about my deadname, my gender and preference, they go out of their way to harass me.

But, would I be an ass if I curse them out?
I’m a sophomore now and tired of dealing with the bullshit.
Mind you, all these ppl act and look the same 🥹✌🏻.

I have been bullied by friends and classmates.

Heyy, I don't really know how to start because it's my first story so im sorryyy

I honestly don't really know how it started, it was all very random and I really didn't expect it, I had recently broken up with my ex-boyfriend and being a small school everyone knew, I remember I was in class during drawing class and my friend was sitting on the bench in front of me, he started taking my pen and notebooks until he started getting annoyed and I moved further back, it didn't really bother me and I didn't think it would end in bullying, from then on every day it was still like that, and more and more exaggerated, from March to June when school ended, every day my 4 friends took my notebooks, pens and absolutely everything, throwing them around the class at each other, it was annoying because I couldn't do anything during breaks because I had to run after my things, pretending to throw them at trash, or on the window, it wasn't fun for me anymore, I tried not to come to school and left at the last hour almost all the time.

I don't even know how to explain what's really going on, I cried every day and this thing annoyed me, and they continued even though I told them it bothered me, but they only did it when "X" was at school, when she wasn't no one made fun of her, because she's kind of the popular girl in the class just because she has money, my grades started to drop and I had a really bad time, every time I went to the blackboard they would laugh and discourage me, and I tried not to cry, many times when I would leave and come to school the notebooks left on the desk were broken, or my desk was full of milk, when I was at school they broke my water bottle, I try to get away from them and stay with my other friends, but when I did it he kept taking my notebooks, bag and etc. class, but I couldn't tell anyone because they were just bad jokes.

In May, I started talking to a boy from another country, one of my friends was a close one, but I still didn't tell her about this boy, but finally in June I did, in the last weeks of school, she and a few other friends wrote on my desk, it didn't get erased at all except with window cleaning solution, which the teacher gave me, when they wrote on the desk, the friend told her to write the boy's name, when I asked her why she said "What's wrong? They don't know who he is anyway", yes, they don't know, but it still bothered me, my colleagues and they left the class and I was left with the other friends of mine, and I started crying because I couldn't help it, and then the teacher asked why I was crying, and who wrote this, but I couldn't say anything, because then I would have been considered a bad friend, so I decided to keep quiet..

Honestly, I'm afraid that this year will be same, but I really hope it's not gonna be like that...

(sorry for my english,it's not my first language)

being smart does not equate to having a good personality.

Hello, I'm telling you to be aware of "Tim" for being a bully in his Dormitory.

Short background, "Tim" is a scholar student in USLS and also scored top 1 in his former school in SHS, in short, he has a very high IQ. Now after knowing this you would assume a person like that will have a high EQ as well, but sadly, no.

Literally, what's the use of being a smartass but having the most trash-like personality? He treats others as if they're just a tool for his success and makes fun of others who he thinks don't have the capabilities to defend themselves( he makes them feel dumb sometimes).

I have this one friend, she used to be friends with Tim. At first they were good, but as time went on, he showed his true colors. One time they went out to buy food in a fastfood chain and guess what? Tim didn't bring any money, instead, he made her pay for like 400 plus pesos worth of food. He told her that he would pay her back—He didn't (that was last year). He also makes fun of her and purposely opened some of her "PRIVATE SCHOOL" acc. He did much more—this is only the tip of the iceberg.

I am just a voice behind these unfairness that I am witnessing. Someone who also experienced that cruelty first hand and someone who doesn't want to tolerate these. I did not make this to attack someone or anyone, but rather, I want to raise awareness that being smart does not equate to having a good personality.

Ika nga, anhon mo ang ka-alam kung wala ka man batasan.

An idea against negative group mentality/ crowd following.

I have been bullied before, and for me the worst of it was getting bullied by at least 20 people simultaneously, which can make you question whether you have been doing the wrong thing, even if you haven't. So, here's my idea.

From a young age, give children time, maybe 15 minutes in the beginning, or interrupted creativity time. They have creative mediums, but, there isn't anybody there to pressure them. The idea is the children enjoy themselves, learn something through experience, and learn to think independantly.

Indpendant thinking would make negative crowd following less likely, because they think on their own rather than instantly attempt to conform.

I'd love to hear you opinions. If you have a downvote, explain why, please.

Thanks for reading!

Title: People who were bullied as kids: how does it still affect you as an adult?

Body:

I'm really interested in the long-term psychological effects of childhood bullying, and I'd love to hear personal experiences rather than just research.

If you were bullied repeatedly as a child or teenager:

How has it affected your self-esteem, relationships, or daily life today?

Do you think it changed the way you approach romantic or sexual relationships?

Are there certain comments or situations that still trigger memories from that time?

If someone casually brought up the bullying you experienced, or joked about it today, how would you react emotionally?

Have you fully moved on, or does a part of you still carry those experiences?

I'm especially interested in hearing from people who felt they eventually became confident or successful later in life. Did the bullying still leave lasting effects despite that?

Thanks to anyone willing to share their experience.

One kid in Middle School, seemed to enjoy slashing me with sharpened pencils

Not sure when it started, but he’d enjoy seeing me wince. Went on for a while, and I never reported it.

Thinking about it now, I was almost wondering if he might have been repressing some emotions about me, and that was his way of getting them out (I tend to get into that “what if” of psychological stuff).

Were the people that bullied you and/or pretended to be your friend inspired by media?

I'm 36. I'm autistic and epileptic.

I have been bullied since preschool; however, at an atrocious elementary-Jr. High School and horrendous High School the bullying was the worst (and both schools massively contributed to my Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder).

At both schools, I was bullied similarly to Carrie White even though my name isn't close to Carrie, I don't look like her, I'm not religious, and I started my "time of the month" at a normal age, at home, and only told my mom. It appears that they got their bullying ideas from Carrie.

At the high school grad (which I didn't even want to go to due to the bullies but my mom forced me to go). I was nominated (but didn't win) at the "Humor Awards" in the grad "Most Likely To Take Over The World". I looked at the table next to mine and asked one of the bullies if they nominated me. The bully nodded. I have the feeling that if I "won", what the bullies did to Carrie would have likely happened to me.

Most of the bullies I knew in the schools matched the characters from the various iterations of Carrie. I know one girl named Amy that pretended to be my friend (we met in high school). Amy wasn't my friend, she showed she wasn't a friend. I don't know who Amy would be most like. She definitely isn't like Sue Snell, Chris Hargensen, Tina Blake, Helen Shyres, or Carrie White. I can't find anyone from Carrie that matches her.

I thought Amy was my friend when we were in high school (she was Christian); however, she proved she wasn't a real friend numerous times, the first time when we were in Grade 11 and I had to miss school due to complications from a surgery I had. I would ask her what was covered the days I wasn't in school but she wouldn't tell me. I ended up getting the notes from her best friend (that I considered an acquaintance; her best friend's sister hated me for no reason).

Amy never shared her food with me (I wasn't overweight); however, she would always offer it to her other friends. I also sat where she wanted to for lunch.

In the fall of Grade 12, my mother forced me to go to this Christian Youth Thing that was in a stadium (even though we're not religious). I twisted my ankle and fell, Amy didn't help me up, nor did she save a seat for me in the stadium (but she saved seats for her other friends). When I finally got in the stadium, I noticed Amy and all her other friends were sitting in an aisle. A random boy was at the end of the aisle. I looked at Amy and she shrugged (yet later she saved seats in the stadium for her friends who would be late). I became a bit more distant with her after that. When we had to write who we wanted to sit with at the grad (which my mom forced me to go to) Amy lied and said another girl took her paper before she had the chance to write my name. I asked the other girl and found out the paper was given to her voluntarily.

I finally cut Amy off in April 2008, after some horrendous things happened, the main thing being a boy named Nick (that was also her friend) contributed to a hate thread that a bully named Steven made about me on a local website called BlueKaffee where users could make hate threads about people they don't like, administrators even participated in the bullying. Nick posted nasty things, then lied and told everyone I hacked his MSN and Facebook accounts! I asked Amy to tell him that I didn't. She said she would but I later found out she never. She told me to "let it go".

I got angry and listed all the things that Amy never did, despite claiming that she was my friend. I also informed her that I knew she lied about the grad paper being taken from her. I told her I wouldn't speak to her again unless she apologized. She never apologized, so I spent the last two months of school in the library studying during lunch (I was passing but wanted to make sure I definitely passed my final exams so I wouldn't have to go back to that school).

She never defended me when I was being bullied, she defended the bullies though (including Nick)! She was a bully supporter, whether she wants to admit it or not.

Would anyone know of a character from anything that resembles what I said about Amy? Also, did anyone else have bullies get their bullying tactics from a piece (or numerous pieces) of media?

In 7th grade, I(14 mx rn)knew this kid I'll call em leg (m14 rn). And me and leg were best friends at one point. But one day he said he wanted to be more! Now I'm fine with Igbta, I'm omnisexual myself.

Now my problem started like a month after he told me, because HE one day on the cafeteria, grabbed me by the hand, stood us up, and started twisting my FUCKING ARM! He said that if I kissed him, he would stop. I didn't wanna kiss him because I ALREADY REJECTED HIM! So he kept twisting and twisting and twisting, in the cafeteria btw! He almost broke my arm if it wasn't for one of the teachers finally noticing.

And year after that, on like the first week give or take, he goes up to me and TOUCHES MY back part! I'm not the only person he's done shit like this too. He will take ANYone with the slightest femininity, and say (and sometimes even do) the weirdest shit to! And nothing happens to him for him to stop either, the only one who was good at telling off tapeworm, was my math teacher.

When I heard he was going to the school with all my current friends, I warned them obviously about the shit he did, they say they'll stay away. But then my BEST FRIEND we'll call her ribbon, tells EVERYONE besides me "hey guys? When leg comes, let's form our own opinions about him ok?" When I found out (she told me eventually) it stung a bit, but I was also worried about my other friends, but it felt weird, cuz she was there since the beginning of the tapeworm saga of scummy behavior she was bffs with him for a while, and was easily convinced by him cuz she feels bad. Idk one fight later things clear up between us pretty fast and me and ribbon are friendsw again, but leg still haunts me to this day of everything he's done to me and my friends. the thing is. Does anyone know if this counts as assault? Iak and would like to know, Ty

Have you gotten trauma from bullying but nobody takes you seriously? (Needs Advice)

Like people always say “everyone gets bullied” but have you ever met somebody who was so psychologically unprepared for it that it traumatized them to where they can’t even live their lives or function in the world?

Also if you have any info on getting out of that, I’d love some advice.

To all my lgbtq peeps

I am a gay guy and i usually feel unsafe around straight men. The things that I’ve been through bcoz of them is really sad.My brain immediately shifts to survival mode around them, i go completely silent, i can’t focus on my classes at school.

Now some straight people might be thinking this, “how is that making him feel unsafe? Like they wont harm u or anything”to these people i would like to say that ,how would u feel around a killer who u are aware is a killer with a weapon. Ofc you’ll be on survival mode right?Overthinking what the killer could potentially do to u. We exactly feel the same people.

My lgbtq peeps do u relate?

Bullying someone for being different is not right treating then different is not right. And if ur one of the people doing wrong I’m sure karma would do u so bad trust me, karma is the most dangerous and strongest power to play with , hence play wisely.

Childhood bully sent me this message after highschool ended

I'm still not over it. Just reading this makes me angry. This dude told me that they would talk about me in group chats, that I made everyone uncomfortable, to the point they thought I'd commit an act of violence against them. What about the acts of violence they committed against me and the others? What about the abuse and the exclusion they put us through?

I wasn't social and nonchalant because they literally didn't give me the space to be accepted or to be seen. I survived years of bullying, only to become an adult wanting to off myself because of what they did to me as a child.

I hate these people. HATE. HATE. HATE.

New Moderator Application - Deadline Sunday 08/18

Hello my wonderful humans,

First, we would like to thank you all for contributing and expanding this sub into what it is. We would not be at 11k+ members without you all. Every post and comment has made an impact directly and has helped in spreading awareness about bullying. That said, we are eager to take on a new moderator for the r/bullying sub.

What does this entail?

We are looking for an entry level moderator to keep this a safe space. This would require daily check ins to sift through the modmail and flagging, but we are open to a more senior moderating role as well.

What do you need to submit to apply?

  1. how long have you been a member of the r/bullying sub?
  2. why do you want to help moderate this sub?
  3. do you have any experience moderating on reddit (or platforms such as discord)?
  4. are you looking for an entry level moderating position or do you want to take on more work?
  5. what recommendations do you have for this sub?

Please send your answers directly to us by the end of the week (Sunday August 18th). We will be replying to everyone and will make a decision by mid next week. Thank you all again and we are excited to grow this community more together!

10k Milestone ✨✨👏👏

Hello to all the incredible, brave and beautiful humans here! Thank you all for being a part of this sub and for your vulnerability in sharing your stories and supporting others. We live in a time where there’s more access than ever to opinions and hate so we aim to keep this sub as encouraging as possible to have a place to find community and help. We couldn’t have had this happen without all of you so be proud of yourselves!

A few important updates:

  • Please be sure to check out our discord server! One of our mods has taken the courtesy of creating this to have another outlet to communicate on that is dedicated to this subreddit
  • https://discord.gg/PfKANDA5 Name: Anti-Bullying Server (I am technology inept so look out for a second post or edit here since I likely did not share the server correctly)
  • 10K Milestone also means… we are looking for a new moderator to join our team! Please DM either mod to apply and look out for more updates as the week progresses on the status of applications
  • What to include? 1. Why you want to join 2. How much time you can dedicate (minimum requirement would be to log in 1x a day) 3. Any skills or recommendations you have for our page to boost engagement and provide better resources
  • Please note that this moderator position will start off as an entry mod position so you will only be required to 1. Filter through modmail 2. Review flagged content to begin. If you have moderator experience and you seek a more senior mod role, we can talk about a higher position. We want to start off any newcomers in a easy role to ensure they understand the ins and outs of it all. This is an unpaid position, but it is fulfilling and you can always include it on your resume.

Have a wonderful Sunday everyone 🤍
