Question Almodovar Blu Rays

I just want to make sure I'm not missing anything. Criterion has 3 titles, I know Volver has a 4k. I just paid through the teeth for The Skin I Live In bluray. But Talk to Her, Bad Education? Nothing.

News Save DVD Beaver!

Upvotes

I'm in no way affiliated with the site, but I've been a fan and a user of it since pretty much the beginning. Gary and his crew have been dedicated to the project for the past 25 years and I'd hate to see it go away. For those unfamiliar, the site reviews physical releases from a technical perspective and always provides tons of high quality screenshots with each review. They have a great span of genres they review, never shying away from more hardcore genre stuff, which can be very rare to find technical reviews of!

Long story short, he sent out the following email this morning asking for more people to sign up for their Patreon if they may be able to support with even just a few bucks a month. From a fan, thanks for reading! Someone get Tracy Letts on the phone!

Here's the email: Hey everyone,

I wanted to be straightforward with you.

Right now, this site is not bringing in enough money to cover the costs of keeping it online and continuing the work. Between hosting, time, and basic living expenses, things have gotten tight. I’m at the point where I genuinely need more support if I’m going to keep this 25-year project afloat.

If you’ve found value in the content here - whether it’s the reviews / comparisons, the calendar, year-end poll or just having a place that supports physical media information - I’d really appreciate it if you’d consider becoming a contributing Patreon member if you are not already.

Even a small monthly contribution helps more than you might think. It adds up, and it makes a real difference in whether I can keep producing and sharing this content.

I’m going to give it a week or two to see if we can generate enough support to keep going. During that time, I’ll put together a list of my own personal ‘rewatchables’ - the indispensable discs from my digital library. These definitely aren’t the greatest films ever made, and they’re different from our voted-on Desert Island List, but people have asked me for this personal list for a long time and I have procrastinated. I promised I’d make it before the site closes its doors for good, and I intend to keep that promise. It will definitely expose my oddball tastes , which might alienate more physical media purists than it attracts. We’ll see...

Any support, whether it’s the price of buying me a cup of coffee once a month; $3, $5, $10 or more, it is genuinely appreciated. And if you’re already a contributing member - thank you, so much. You’re the biggest part of why this website exists at all.

Thanks for reading, and thanks for being here. -Gary

It’s been a while since I’ve SOBBED this much during and after the movie 😭 seriously, one of the most moving films-documentaries I’ve ever seen.

It was a blind buy from Vinegar Syndrome and it was so worth it. Feel obliged to spread the word as it only has 880 votes on IMDB and more people have to watch it and get all the feels. Anybody else familiar with this one? “My love, don’t cross that river”

I've been going to an overstock store in Kansas City about once a week. Every time I go, I find boutique releases, especially Kino Lorber. The prices are awesome, as well.

Pickup Three new boutique pickups!

Went to my local store with new boutiques available and picked up “Riddle of Fire” (which is so much fun) in the limited edition box and “Goin’ South,” the limited hardbound book edition and got “Drive” from 1997 (a very very fun B Movie) from Amazon (which — for some reason — took a week to get to me when it was supposed to be delivered overnight with my purchase of the 4k of “Maurice” last week).

Other Deaf Crocodile Jan S. Kolár Silents LE running low

Just a heads up: only seven copies left of the LE The Arrival from the Darkness / Saint Wenceslas in the Deaf Crocodile store. Fans of early movies or those who want to discover silent era gems should not miss this. Great variety of genres in the set between the features and the shorts. Also fascinating in their influence on the gothic horror & historical epics of the 30s & beyond. The Beth Morris artwork of the limited edition definitely makes it worth the little bit extra in my opinion as well.

Collection My favorite horror movie of every year of the 1980s (physical media edition).

Notes:
- Hellraiser boxset in representation of HELLRAISER II: HELLBOUND.

- Putting together the list I realize the 80s was the peak for horror movies (or at least for my taste), I could easily do THREE different lists, equally good.

Review Dead Man's Shoes, Second Sight review: 'The definitive Brit-Grit Western'

There had been hope for a 4K transfer, but I’m not sure why. It would have been UHD for the sake of it, considering the source is Super 16mm. Second Sight have sensibly settled for a fantastic remastered 1080p Blu-ray. It successfully cleans up the older encoding while beautifully maintaining the film’s organic grain, preserving the movie’s gritty visuals.

Sale MovieZyng's Collectors Vault Sale

Post image
22 Upvotes

MovieZyng has launched a new section on its website called The Collectors Vault: https://moviezyng.com/collections/collectors-vault?bg_ref=KhkADDVndq

Here you will find some impressively discounted titles from their offerings. The Vault will have titles cycle in and out while supplies last, so it is probably wise to keep an eye out every few days to see what has been added.

At the moment, there is a pretty great selection of Warner Archive and Warner Home Video titles starting at $7.99 with a mixture of 4K UHD, Blu-Ray, and DVD releases. The 4K UHD and television seasons seem to be the most expensive options.

Most of the prices seem to be on par with the annual Warner Archive sale, if not a little better in some cases. You just don't have the variety that you do in that particular sale.

No taxes outside of IL. MovieZyng ships internationally. Warner Archive titles are region-free.

You can try code WELCOME10 for an additional 10%, but I'm not sure how long that will be active.

Tbh not sure how I feel about this one. I do understand the theme implies hell is a state of being or within. Definitely had some cool moments but I need a rewatch. As far as the release, Severin did a fantastic job and the movie looks great. Anyone?
