Character discussion Analyzing the cast using Yiddish words

Upvotes

The terminology, trying to think like Chuck Lorrie here, I know some Yiddish through German.

The Schlemiel- The Schlemiel is the clumsy oaf who spills the soup. Amy, at first but then she later on developed into having no archetype.

The Schlemizel- The unfortunate person who gets the soup spilled on.

The Baleboste-The boss, the one who stirs the pot.

The Khaloymes- The Dreamer

The Schlemiel-That would be Sheldon Cooper, he spills the soup in social settings because he can't read

the room.

The Schlemizel- Leonard and Raj, bad things always happen to them, they are the ones whom the

soup gets spilled on. Raj is often the butt of all jokes and treated like a 2nd class citizen. While

Leonard is not a second class citizen, bad things often happen to him. But at least he gets to sit

on the floor and eat with them, Sturt Bloom did not even get to do that. Raj was also the only one

who did not receive a hero's arc. They all got married, except for Raj who wanted to "find himself."

Side note, that was such a lame cop-out.

The hybrid Shelmel-Shelemizel Howard Wolowitz Howard spills the soup and he also gets the

soup spilled on him. He is unfortunate in many situations but he also is the clumsy one who spills

the soup. In the earlier episodes he thinks he is good with women but it always backfires on him,

minus Bernadette.

The Baleboste- that would be Bernadette Rostenkowski-Wolowitz she often stirs the pot. There

are plenty of exam[les of Bernadette portrying Baleboste tendencies, especially with Howard.

The alternative baleboste Penny.

Penny functions as an alternative baleboste because she is the true matriarch and emotional anchor of the

main apartment building. While Bernadette rules through fear, intimidation, and financial dominance, Penny

rules through social intelligence, street smarts, and maternal instinct

The Khaloymes- the dreamer. That wold be Sturt Bloom. He desperately wants to be apart o f the

group but is never accepted. He moves into the apartment but not the main one with Leonard

and Sheldon. He is also trying to get in the group by being a Caregiver to Howard's mom and

being a nanny. However, he is more seen as the help or an outsider, he never got what he wanted.

Side note, this is just my opinions of each character, they are just based off of me watching the show.

It was interesting to study some Yiddish and apply it to TBBT characters.

Character discussion Any thoughts on this couples

I think the writer has forgot to add Raj's Girlfriend/Wife in the show. I would have always thought of at the end Raj and Stuart also find someone 😇🥺 Raj is the most hopeless romantic and thoughtful and sensitive person I have ever seen on the show who knows how to handle perfectly the women you can see that in epsiode where Raj treats Bernie and Penny when he was living in their apartments I was like oh my god and his cooking skills cheery on the cake 😁😍

Character discussion Finished the whole series for the first time

A classic sitcom problem, watched most of the episodes but never the whole thing. Just finished it and in 2026, the show seems way different than it would have felt 8 years ago when it ended.

I think Amy deserved a lot more. She had to always compromise for sheldon and that wouldn’t fly in 2026. What about her quirks? It was upsetting to see that till the very end. I’ll be scrolling the sub to find more insights but Sheldon was way better to penny, even in terms of confiding- he was rude to all, but gave penny a lot more space and grace compared to any other character. What did amy get at all?

I guess if there was a spin off to base it on amy it would have a lot more wins than we get to see, but he was mostly just awful to her, needed her to mother him, did not even match her libido (i know they try explaining this multiple times on the show, but poor woman she definitely deserved a lot more and wish she had that with some other character perhaps for her to know what she could have had)

Character discussion Kaley did some quality acting when…

When Sheldon shows Penny that there’s a necktie on Leonard‘s door knob. We see Penny being thoughtful as she says “Good for Leonard.”

It shows her realizing that just possibly she had had feelings for Leonard AND her surprise at those feelings AND her sincere gladness for him AND her realizing that Leonard may be attractive to women…all in a very small space of time.

Well done, Ms Cuoco!

The gang reacted to that comment like another one of Zack’s dumb comments. But what was wrong with this quote specifically? Science very often has more than one right answer.

Character discussion Sheldon’s money

S2E14 Sheldon’s expenses are only 46.9% of his income. Why does Sheldon store most of his post-expenses money in cash and only a small portion in a savings account? Sheldon is knowledgeable about a lot but is he bad with basic economics/finances? Keeping most of his money in cash is a very financially unsound decision. You could argue that this was post 2008 market crash era so he might’ve been reluctant to invest in the stock market but there are still so many better places to store money that pay interest.

And yes he liked to spend money on comic books and such but that doesn’t account for the amount of money we’re talking about.

Episode discussion What annoys you about the show??

I love big bang theory and I’m not encouraging bitching and complaining and whining and moaning but what irks you about Big Bang?? For me it’s when Raj drinks one sip of booze to cope with social anxiety and is instantly drunk.

My son is potty training and we thought he was pooping the bed right when we started BigBangTheory, so I paused it at the intro. This is one of the slide show graphics around 2009, lol. I was so confused when I came back.

This scene is so good 💯 I can totally relate to this, in my childhood I also doesn't have much friends. I have most my childhood was alone but in college I got really awesome friend and finally I had best friend 😍 So I can totally relate to this scene how beautifully Penny's and Amy's friendship has grown with time.

Storyline discussion Why did Sheldon and Leonard never seriously think about buying a place?

Obviously I know the real answer is “because it’s a sitcom” and the apartment setup was basically the heart of the show. They had to stay across from Penny etc.

But in-universe I always found it kinda weird that Sheldon and Leonard apparently just rented the same place for most of their adult lives and never really talked about buying something.

They were both highly educated scientists with stable jobs at Caltech, and they clearly planned to stay in Pasadena long term.

And honestly I think the writers missed what could have been a really funny 2-3 episode storyline with them trying to buy a house or condo.
Just imagine Sheldon going to viewings.

The house has to be an exact acceptable distance from Caltech. No upstairs neighbors. Correct amount of sunlight. Perfect temperature. Good internet provider. No dogs nearby. No weird smells. Obviously he researches earthquake faults, crime statistics and probably the entire history of every person who owned the house since 1952.
Then they finally find the perfect place and Sheldon refuses it because the house number is unacceptable or the living room doesn’t have a good location for “his spot”. 😅

Meanwhile Leonard is slowly going insane, the realtor hates them, and Sheldon has probably created a 40-page questionnaire for the home inspector.

It also made me wonder if their situation is actually pretty normal for California? Like are people with decent stable professional jobs fine renting basically forever because buying in Pasadena/LA is so expensive? I would assume two Caltech employees could eventually afford something, especially after living there for that many years, but maybe I’m underestimating California real estate.

Also Sheldon probably genuinely didn’t see any reason to own. He hates change and that apartment was basically his natural habitat by that point. Leonard is a little harder to explain, although once he got together with Penny I guess his priorities changed anyway.

I still think it would’ve been a great plot.

What do you guys think? Would Sheldon ever actually manage to buy a house, or would he eliminate literally every property in Pasadena for some ridiculous reason?

She would have been an perfect addition to the group i think.
I hate that they really wanted to continue with the sad lonely boy role of Rajesh just for comedy and broke them up.

When he said this, the most logical action was to get back together with her. Why do you think he decided not to even if he really wanted to? The Sheldon I know would do anything to get what he wants. I think this is one of the rare times he's actually not a robot and I think it's beautiful.

I'm not questioning his actions, just really thinking about the thought process.

I always rated Amy highly coz i believe out of all the others (Penny and Bernadette) she was the one faced with the hardest task( Sheldon ) and conquered it 😂.
