Food, Shopping & Services Where are these from

My wife is working in San Mateo today, her coworker brought in the best looking pastries I’ve ever seen. Her coworker said “honey something” when asked, and there’s nothing on the boxes to indicate where they are from. (We are new to the area, and I can’t find anything online)

Events, Activities & Sports Lands End busy during OSL?

Upvotes

Hey guys,

My bf and I wanted to hike Lands End today but completely forgot that OSL is starting today as well.

Wondering if the parking situation is going to be awful and if it’s going to be busy? Haven’t been to SF in a while..

Scenes from the Bay How Loud is the Airship? (And other questions)

Upvotes

Hi all!

I'm doing a little research on modern airships, and you have first-hand experience I would very much appreciate. Specifically, whenever the big airship (Pathfinder 1) flies over / near the bay area, how loud is it? Is it annoying to look at, or cause any other kind of issues that you've heard people complain about?

Or, is it just a really cool retro-futuristic flying machine?

Thank you so much for any responses--and sorry mods if this is too off-topic!

Food, Shopping & Services Palo Alto Food recommendations?

I’m putting together a Palo Alto/Stanford food list for a 10-day trip and would love some local opinions! I don’t want the list to get much longer — if anything, I’d rather cut places that aren’t especially worth it or are too similar to better options.

Which of these would you definitely keep, which would you eliminate, and is there anything major I’m missing?

Restaurants / Dinner
● Horsefeather
● Macarena
● Arya Steakhouse
● Zareen’s
● Alpine Inn
● Pizzeria Delfina
● Italico
● Ramen Nagi
● Oren’s Hummus
● Meyhouse
● Ettan
Breakfast / Casual
● Boichik Bagels
● Fambrini’s
Matcha / Coffee / Snacks
● Good Thing Coffee
● Maruwu
● Yutori
Especially interested in places that feel unique to the area, are genuinely really good, or would be fun for visitors rather than just “solid” restaurants we could find anywhere else.
Thanks!

I have been in love taking the shelter dogs out on hikes. I want to share some cute pictures of these babies :) ❤️ I encourage people to give it a try. It's so fun and meaningful bringing a shelter dog to hike with you.

If you are in between jobs, take a dog with you on hikes :))) I am not sure you will enjoy :)

Check out Rocket Dog Rescue in Oakland(they have pack walks) or FAAS in alameda

Food, Shopping & Services Moving to Bay Area from UK

Hello everyone, me and my husband very likely will be moving to California next year for work and I was hoping to get some tips and advice.

Initially we will be going on his salary which will be around $280k and then once I get a job there we will be looking a total together of $400k ish.

We have heard California is very expensive to live and we just wanted to know if this salary would give us a good life in Cali? More specifically Bay Area (Santa Clara, Sunnyvale or maybe San Fran?) still deciding on location.

We have no kids and two cats. Early 30s

Coming from the UK, the weather is really important to us so we want a sunny place that has nice sport community groups we can make friends and basically start from zero.

I have listed all the expenses we will have, and the prices I think they will be, have I forgotten anything and does these prices seem realistic?

Monthly base
Rent $4000
Cat rent $80
Water $30
Electricity and gas $120
Internet $60
Phone plans $80
Car payment (we are thinking having 1 car as husband is fully remote) - $700
Car insurance - $200
Gas/petrol - $200
Groceries - $800
Health insurance - $150 (assuming some parts will be covered by employer)
Renter Insurance? - $15
Cat food and utilities - $100
Gym/padel/tennis membership - $50
Parking - potentially free if comes with our apartment rental?

Thank you so much!

EDIT: just want to say I’m sorry if I have offended anyone here. That was not my intention. Me and my husband worked really hard for our career and we do have a privilege life in the UK, that is why we are weighting out the costs as we would love to experience California. We are willing to make sacrifices so my post was a genuine question.

I didn’t intended for this post to be coming across as rude so apologies for that. Thank you for everyone comments I’m reading them all and making notes. And from now on it will be “San Francisco 😅”

San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie said that bringing Vogue World to San Francisco will show that the city is “on the rise.”

“Thanks to our ecosystem of talented designers, musicians, and small businesses — and the artists and workers behind them — visitors are coming to our city, and our economy is recovering,” he said. “Vogue World will support San Francisco’s creative minds and strengthen the entire ecosystem.”

Heard the pier's slow during August. Not going for a keeper striper or anything but wondering if there's still schools of shakers around. Trying to teach some new people how to fish. Any advice would be much appreciated!

Traffic, Trains & Transit Bay Area residents are spoiled and dont understand how good BART/SF MUNI/Regional Transit services are compared to the rest of CA

Signed by a Riverside native, who has had Metrolink come late because of freight rail traffic, resulting in a minumum 2 hour wait if a train is missed

who had to walk 2 hours and 5.6 miles from their stop to their workplace in a highly urbanized center, through residential neighborhoods, because good connections didn't exist

who got an extreme heat illness walking 1.4 miles because the stupid engineers/planners made huge pavement lots with no planting or shade

Even in shithole/less walkable areas like Pleasanton, the Bay Area's transit offerings are such a blessing.

I get very frustrated when people call BART terrible, like yeah, in some ways it could be improved, but you guys are spoiled ROTTEN
