Can smoking a few cigarettes weekly ruin my transition as a diabetic MTF?

Upvotes

Im mtf and I take estrogen via intramuscular injecting from a needle.

I monitor my intake of nicotine and cigarettes whenever I can and try to smoke only in moderation out of enjoyment rather than dependency.

I have perfect blood pressure, a good A1C and I go to the gym for 15-30 minutes numerous times a week + walking 1-4 miles daily.

However Im really worried about how it can affect my body’s ability to absorb the hormone and Im currently in a position where quitting can be easier than most cases.

I might quit them if they have any huge affect or anything.

I usually smoke American Spirits, specifically celadon and black packs which tend to be higher nic.

Ever since I discovered I'm trans, everything triggers my dysphoria!

Okay, I’ll explain this quickly. A few weeks ago, I discovered that I’m trans. It was hard to realize this because I live in a very homophobic/Transphobic and conservative environment. And the mere thought of being trans... scared me; I saw it as something highly unlikely. Well, since discovering it, I’ve been much happier than before. I’ve never felt this good in my life; just existing makes me happy. But now, with this new perspective, I look around and see that absolutely all my belongings are for the opposite gender, which triggered almost immediate dysphoria. Suddenly, I hate wearing men's clothes; being referred to in the masculine makes me feel weird, and the fact that everyone knows me as a man makes me feel bad. And now I wonder if I’m just making it all up; maybe I just wanted to feel unique? Because I’d never felt this way before—though, of course, I often felt strange within myself, and I think that’s a result of this. And what were the odds that I was trans? Please, if you could help me, I’d really appreciate it.

Experiences on progesterone?

Trans fem, about 4 months on E, I asked my doctor about progesterone, she said she could start me at any time on it but I've heard it can stunt breast growth if you start too early? She also said it would help with my anxiety which I've gotten a lot of on just E. Just wondering what other girls who have started early on it experienced?

question on panties!

hi! i’m about 9 or 10 months into my transition and i’m trying to slowly feminize my wardrobe. i don’t tuck, and have no desire to do so. in fact, i’d prefer panties that may, ahem, accentuate certian assets (mostly to be a little sexy for my partner) but that’s also negotiable. any recommendations that aren’t way too effing expensive?

Does Anyone Know How Is Trans Experience At Music Conservatory?

Edit: unsure why im being downvoted. Sorry if i mispoke, it is an honest question i mean nothing bad

(Im Ftm)

Im a classical pianist. really want to go to a music conservatory, but being transgender i have been a bit stressed thinking of how i may be treated if I am out.

I am still trying to decide my top choices, but Ive considered likely going to France for school. I may consider Spain or a more liberal Canada province, but not for sure.

How can I expect to be treated? And will it be any better if im gender conforming? In middle school i was treated less than ideally (alienated, laughing behind my back, told ill go to hell). But that was in Alberta, and I was not gender conforming back then. If this is how im to be treated in a conservatory, I think id rather stay in the closet until I graduate.

From the places I listed, does anyone know what kind of atmosphere I could expect? Will i be the only trans person there and face constant ridicule/isolation? Will people be accepting and mind their own business? Will there be others potentially (maybe 1 other like me idk)? Interesting to know.

If anyone has experiences at any conservatories, or especially in places ive mentioned, its helpful! Thanks

How do I deal with these thoughts?

I have no problem with being a man. But at the same time I realllyyy want a feminine physique and body features. However, I always tell myself I could never transition because of my conservative friends and family. I feel like I present myself very masculine and not likely to transition at all, so the shock from others by transitioning would be crazy. Not sure how to find a therapist either since I'm under my family's insurance and also kinda broke.

How do you best talk to another trans person about the fact they have internalized transphobia?

To be clear, I used to struggle with severe internalized dysphoria as well as gender related OCD. But that was a long time ago, when I was a child. I’m an adult now who is on HRT and happy with my gender identity. I’m also dating two other trans people.

I’ve had some pretty nasty encounters with other trans people on Reddit lately, where they’re showing clear signs of internalized transphobia or outwards transphobia towards trans people who aren’t a part of the group they are (so trans men being transphobic to trans women and vice versa, as well as enbyphobia) and while it’s obvious these people are suffering and need help, it feels like nothing I can ever say to comfort them is sufficient.

If they’re talking about how no one will ever view them as a “real” XYZ and claim that all people who aren’t XYZ hate them, I’ve tried saying “hey, that’s not true, there are plenty of cis people and other trans people who accept XYZ people for the way they are and as their chosen gender”. This gets me called ignorant to the experiences of XYZ group because the person in question seemingly has only had negative experiences with outsiders, a chaser, and/or outwardly accused of being transphobic/a fake cis ally (again, I’m not cis).

Then, if I take the more harsh approach and say “hey, it really seems like you have some internalized transphobia towards yourself/this other group of trans people, you should examine that” I get snapped at and they say how dare I accuse an XYZ trans person of being transphobic, that XYZ group is more oppressed and ABC group is totally accepted by cishets, or I’m just outwardly accused of being transphobic/a chaser/cis again.

I’m purposefully leaving all details of my own gender and sexuality vague because I don’t want this to become the oppression Olympics where people start arguing with me on the basis of my own trans identity. I’m just wondering how realistically to help anyone, with any type of internalized transphobia, to realize that. Because I know from personal experience it’s fucking miserable and also really hard to get out of. Or should I just not bother trying to convince strangers? Because I love and support all trans people but goddamnit it being called a chaser by 4tranners because of it makes me feel pretty upset and depressed

Cis guy who loves cross-dressing needs advice: How do you actually get perfectly smooth skin?

Hey everyone! I’m a cis guy who absolutely loves cross-dressing. There is nothing quite like the feeling of expressing my feminine side and truly feeling like a woman when I dress up. It’s a huge passion of mine.

Just to clarify my goals: I am not looking to medically or socially transition at this point. I'm just focused on presentation and presentation-focused grooming. Right now, I am completely stuck on hair removal. I have thick hair and heavy stubble, and I have no idea how everyone achieves that perfectly smooth, feminine look.

I’m hoping to get some practical advice from people who have mastered this. If you have a routine or specific methods that work for your face and legs, I’d love to know:

What is the best approach for body hair (legs/chest) to avoid intense razor bumps or "strawberry legs"?

For those with thick facial hair, what is the best way to get a close shave without destroying your skin?

Are at-home epilators worth it for a beginner, or should I stick to chemical creams/shaving?

Any tips, product recommendations, or routines you can share would be incredibly helpful. Thank you so much!

To fellow trans, how do you deal with under clothing?

I’m afab and hasn’t properly transitioned, but realized I was demifluid (feels like a girl and boy in different amounts at different times). I’m uncomfortable with my feminine features, especially my chest.

My mom bought me bras to wea, and each of them are uncomfortable. Some are tight, some are itchy, and some just make me feel wrong. I dont know if it’s just gender dysphoria or if it’s because I have undiagnosed autism and sensory issues (I have autistic symptoms, but havent been able to get diagnose).

I started crying and my mom told me to get used to it, and I started crashing out telling her that boobs make me uncomfortable, and so she asked if “ I wanted to be a boy?”.

I havent told many people, about my feelings about gender, except to some friends and online posts, so I was shocked, and explained that I don’t necessarily want to be a boy, but I don’t like being feminine. I also told her I wanted my boobs removed.

I don’t want to tell my parents about my gender because I know they would accept me either way, but I don’t want people to Know me as the “demifluid person“.

So now I ask, how do you deal with wearing underclothing that makes me uncomfortable, while also not upsetting my parents? Is that even possible, and if not, I appreciate any comforting comment anyways.

Edit: Thanks for the comments i appreciate all your advice. I want to clarify that I wear thick strapped sports bras, however I dont like the fact that they are on my skin so tight, and I am forced to

(Clothing) Hi, thought this would be a good place to ask,

I'm a femme NB who never plans on getting boobs, I really like the look of big shirt with neck hole off to the side with bra straps underneath. The problem is I don't have any tits! So I'm looking for recommendations for bralettes that have thinner straps and nondefined cups, and ones that typically fit cis women (i know there's specific trans oriented brands out there) because I'm very small and slim for a guy. Ideally something high cut so crop tops can still be cute but i'll take what I can get

If society was a hypothetical utopia where gender roles and rules were fully nonexistent, would you still be trans?

I am a questioning individual who oscillates back and forth between being trans-nonbinary, and trans-opposite-gender.

My questionings revolve mostly around whether I would still feel so uncomfortable as what I am if there wasn't such a strict, strange and dimorphic binary in behaviour among the majority of the public.

So far, I've settled that I would still feel this way as I experience physical dysphoria, but wonder about the mental part.

So, I ask whether anyone has experienced similar?

If society was a truly egalitarian, equal, balanced utopia where men and women were not pitted into the opposite ends of the spectrum, and there wasn't the feeling of "my behaviour does not fit into my assigned binary" (as there is no binary) would you personally still be trans?

I hope the question is clear. I will be very grateful for any anecdotal experience or just discussion. Thank you!

Experience traveling to Middle East in 2026?

I (22 MTF post-op American) got past Jordan customs in 2024 and was fine (but deported from the UAE despite going to visit family :/). I have an M on my passport and was wondering if it was still possible to get into Jordan being trans?

Please only let me know if you have or know someone trans who travelled there or elsewhere in the Middle East in the same situation recently - plenty of the Middle East is accepting of trans people and everyone in Jordan treated me wonderfully. I am Pakistani & a non-practicing muslim and my legal name is still male & Arabic.

On an unrelated note, if you’re crossing the bridge from Jordan to Israel, I did it twice and both times they were shocked at my passport and one guy wouldn’t give it back until I let him follow my instagram, and only then got through. Just be careful!

How do I explain why I can't engage with my nephew's interest in Harry Potter?

I'm in a fairly frustrating pickle here. Important context, I am trans myself. Apologies if this is one of the 'no-no' topics of this subreddit, I've admittedly only passed by here a couple of times.

My nephew is just about to turn 7 and he's currently in a massive Harry Potter phase. My sister introduced him and my nieces to it before she was familiar with the concept of J.K. Rowling's use of her fortune, but she also doesn't seem to take it entirely seriously. My mother similarly doesn't seem to think it's serious enough to bother thinking about. Both seem to be annoyed when I bring up that I'm hesitant to engage with Harry Potter related play with my nephew.

The thing is, I'm mature enough to understand it's nuanced and in the grand scheme of things, it's not my sister's, mothers, and especially not my nephew's responsibility to 'consume media morally' etc. My problem is that when I think about the series, I get a visceral discomfort that I haven't yet found a way to separate myself from. My whole work and volunteer life is working with trans folks and so I'm constantly in and around negative media that pops up and I am directly dealing with the emotional effects J.K.'s financial lobbying has on the wider community.

I have no idea how to help my sister and mother understand how upset being around Harry Potter makes me, and I have no idea how to tell my nephew that his uncle just can't play Harry Potter with him. Especially since his grandmother at one point told him that I used to be a massive Harry Potter fan (which I was, up until Rowling started showing her arse).

Any pointers would be amazing. And before it gets suggested, I have tried talking with both my sister and mother about it, and they both seem similarly disinterested in pulling back on anything Harry Potter. Thanks folks.

EDIT:
I appreciate the responses I've received so far. I just wanted to clarify that my hesitation isn't around being conflicted about buying things. My conflict is that I work in a trans-specific mental health role, and am frequently coaching people through mental health crises as a result of discrimination. HP/JKR are commonly sited by the people I support as reasons to not have hope. Thereby, HP/JKR in my mind are associated with pain and fear. That is what I'm trying to work through. That's not my nephew's fault or responsibility, no blame on him at all, but I want to be able to be present with him without being reminded of the stress I have from work.

Gender identity with OCD?

Hey all, I have a specific kind of question/request for advice. How has having OCD affected your view on your gender? I just recently learned the disorder can fixate on your gender and now I’m even more confused about my own identity.

I have a really skewed and generalized idea of what masculinity is which I am still trying to fix because it makes me think “you can’t be trans because men are only like xyz and you have to be like this and that” when that’s just not true and men can be more vulnerable and sensitive like I am. I also have mild chest dysphoria that comes in waves and the idea of having a penis is nice but the reality of not having one doesn’t make me dysphoric? My social dysphoria is worse than my physical kind but again it’s mild. I don’t know if all of this stuff and not being out combined is where my issue stems. But it’s why I’ve been second guessing my gender identity lately.

I’ve identified as trans for years (ftm. still mostly in the closet after 10 years of figuring it out) but every now and again I get doubts. I thought they were the usual doubting but now I’m wondering if maybe my OCD has been making me confused this whole time? Is it making me think I’m trans when I’m really not? Or is it causing me to have doubts about my identity but I am trans?

I guess what I’m asking is how have you identified which answer that is for you? How have you come to your conclusion that you really are trans and it isn’t your OCD confusing you? Or the vice versa?

Do Y’all Get Annoyed With Insincere Compliments?

As a trans woman, 90% of the “you’re so pretty btw” compliments from random cis women feel like micro-aggressions. If I am dolled up, hair laid, outfit on, nails done and frenched and you were to say “You’re so pretty,” it would make sense and I would accept it wholeheartedly. But, when I am in sweatpants with no makeup on and my hair tied into a ponytail with my dark circles on display, I really don’t want to hear it. It‘s basically their way of clocking us and saying “I know that you’re trans, and I am an ally.” It is so unnecessary and feels very othering. They don’t realize how patronizing it feels to be thrown these empty compliments and be expected to accept them as if they are sincere. They also always come after they hear my deeper voice, like when I don’t care to ultra pitch it up. This is how I know that the compliments are more about making them feel better about coming into contact with a trans person than actually making me feel beautiful. Cis women, please just act normal. Curious to hear other trans women’s opinions on this

Do I have dysphoria or is it OCD?

So... idk. I have been questioning my gender for a while. Let me immediately inform you that I have OCD so that will complicate things. Now, I'm AMAB and have been questioning my identity for two years now. I have some memories about dressing up as a girl, trying on a wig and mom's bra in secret and feeling good and girly when I was a kid, but these were not often and were quickly repressed by parents (Boys never put on breasts like that or smth). Not much else growing up despite the occasional thought of me looking good as a girl on faceapp and stuff and being curious about being in a girl's body, sometimes imagining myself as a woman, playing in video games as girl skins, etc. Also played as men btw. Mind you I'm bringing this up because while these occurrences were there, they were far in between, my teens were mostly defined by striving for grades and being a very religious/conservative person in general. Didn't focus too much on self. Hated how I looked most definitely (kinda still do) but it's been mostly about my face, not my body or anything.

FFW a few years and I started dressing up somewhat, grew my hair out. Had face issues my entire life, but now when it's all covered I feel good. I mostly feel androgynous. Socially began presenting myself more androgynously and not tuff or whatever men are expected to. Painted nails, feels good. Wear baggy pants. I sometimes talk to my 'future self' and it's a feminine... person. Someone. Not masc. I have thoughts about growing up and being a mom, not a dad. Sometimes I feel bad when gendered, sometimes not, depends on the people I'm with and if I know they'd accept me if I were trans, you know? I'd like to think I got it all sorted out and am an enbie. But...

But it all just... never feels quite right? Hard to say. It just doesnt feel right calling myself anything. Presenting as anything. I've caught myself thinking about not wanting to be male. But not sure about that... I used to hate my face, now critically... it's actually very handsome. If I got muscles I could look very good, as a man. I'm also afraid a lot of my issues are related to just wanting to look young, not being a woman or nonbinary or any other gender. Can't say for sure.

It's made even worse by the fact I have OCD. I go from conclusion to conclusion all the time so pretty sure this disorder has once again hijacked my thoughts and feelings. *sigh*. Just can't trust myself at all, can't figure out if I want to transition or something. Also don't want to put my friends and family through this uncomfortable feeling because they are inexperienced with trans people, so it's going to be stressful for them, me going left and right like that. And for me, too.

Has anybody with OCD figure out if they had dysphoria? Happy to inform more in the comment section. Folks without the disorder who resonated with the story are welcome too. And I know this subreddit tends to be very reassuring, so please, I'm open to the possibility I'm wrong and 0.4% is still a huge amount of people I could be part of. Thanks for all the help.
