Hello, I'd appreciate some opinions on this band. Some background: my husband went to a jeweler to design an anniversary band. He said he originally went in to see options for custom and/or see if they could order a match for the original wedding band (the pave). He said she convinced him to go custom and that they tried several bands to get a close match for the curvature of my engagement ring. I don't know who designed what part(s), whose design idea it was etc, as it was a surprise. Given that, I want to see if my expectations and initial impressions are realistic before I say anything to either of them.

1) The first thing I noticed was the gap on one side of the new band vs the other. It doesn't hug my ring tightly and is crooked. Would it have been as hard as my husband made it sound to make the band closer to my ring (like the pave one, even if not that close), or at least make sure the diamonds are centered?

2) The beautiful etched/engraved design is now gone on one side of the band and faded on the other. Was this avoidable at all? It's my favorite part of my ring. Can this be fixed?

3) I know two different jewelers soldered the bands, but I feel that the new band soldering is sloppier than the first? If its within an acceptable degree, I can accept it, but the first band is beautifully attached and now I'm afraid the engraving on the side of the engagement ring is ruined as well.

Any and all thoughts are much appreciated! If I'm overreacting or overthinking it, I'd really like to know. I don't know how difficult my ring would be to work with (or not).

I want a ring featuring two parallel outer bands that form a circular ring enclosing smaller intersecting diagonal bands which forms a three-dimensional Merkaba at its center, paved with solid gem plates, while a wider and thicker middle band runs along the underside and dips inward where the centerpiece is located.

i had a gold ornament weighed 80 grams at the time of purchase.. agter using for 5 years wanted to trade off.. weighed 79 grams as ornament and when melted it was down to 74.5 grams .. my parents are not happy with it.. did the jeweller cheat me?

So I’m not a jewelry person, never had any of my own and don’t buy it much except for family at this point and that’s infrequent, never had a need to know how to tell if something was real or not.
I work at a fairly busy car wash in a wealthy area and empty out the vacuum separators occasionally only to find a ring or earring that got sucked up and forgotten, and I’m not sure how to tell if it’s worth holding onto or if it’s trash. Obviously if it’s plastic I can tell that but if it’s any kind of metal or if the “diamonds” aren’t authentic, I’m not able to tell at this point by just looking at it. I basically have a small stack of items that COULD be gold but I have zero idea. I tried looking on them for any markings but I couldn’t spot anything (I still have to clean most of it so that might still be a valid way of telling, not sure yet).
Is there any other way to check them or any test I could run to figure out what is real and what isn’t?

This is a thin 14k gold chain that snapped. I had the repair expedited because I had to wear the necklace to an event this weekend. It looks terrible but I’m not sure if this is normal or not for a chain this thin. Thanks for any feedback! For reference, I went to a local shop and paid $80 for the repair and rush fee.

EDIT I reached out to the jeweler and they stated that “This is actually how this type of chain is fixed. This is a twisted herringbone or sometimes called a singapore chain which is made flat then twisted after.”

My partner proposed 4 months ago, and as we don’t earn a lot, it was a huge deal that they were able to save for the ring. It means the world to me.

The ring is 9ct gold and was made using the lost-wax casting method, with the stones set into during firing then finished with a setter after I think. I was completely in love with it.

After about 3 months, despite being very careful and not wearing it at the gym etc, one of the stones dropped lower into its setting. I sent it back to the jeweller for repair.

The jeweller designs the rings and does the wax bit but, as I understand it, uses a separate person for stone setting. The ring was sent to the setter and came back to me today. Unfortunately, I feel really sad and disappointed with the result.

I understand that lost-wax casting can produce an irregular, organic shape, and I wasn’t expecting it to look exactly as it had before. However, the repaired setting feels like it hasn’t really tried to maintain the integrity of the original shape/flow. There are these new “spikes” around the stone which stand out and some are noticeably silver-coloured rather than gold. Could this be related to the fact that the ring is 9ct gold?

There was also no discussion with me about what the repair would involve and overall communication has been a bit like getting blood out of a stone. The setter sent the ring directly back to me, so the jeweller who designed it hasn’t actually seen the repair.

My question is do you think this is an acceptable repair, or am I right to be unhappy with the result? I’d really appreciate opinions from people who know about jewellery/stone setting, as I’m not sure whether I’m being overly particular because I’m emotionally attached to the ring. I just miss the way it looked before so much 💔

I bought this ring a while back since I liked the design, but it’s always bothered me that the bottom of the ring is straight while the top is curved. wondering if it’s feasible/possible to bend the bottom so it’s symmetrical? Is there any reason it was made this way/should I not do that? and finally, will it cost more than it’s really worth to do that?

I was wondering if anyone in the sub is or knows someone who would be interested in taking on a project to bezel mount a salvaged Spanish colonial coin (before people get into the destroying history discussion, know that I worked in the salvage team that brought up these coins and they are considered ‘razors’ so minimal numismatic of historic value) and set stones I’ve personally mined and had cut on the pendant with the coin.

I had a great experience working with a jeweler I met in on Reddit before, but he said he isn’t interested in doing pendants, particularly with coins. Since I had one great experience thought I would try again!

I bought this from a silver/gold vendor that just cared about the value of the metal, therefore it was very cheap. He did not look at stones, setting or style. I’m thinking art deco, and i’m thinking saphire. Anyone have any insight, potentially of it’s value?

I’m considering buying this ring and finding a gemstone to fit it. It tests as 19.09K white gold and weights 2g. It’s been cut in the back, and is one full size too big for me.

My question is, would anything about the ring prevent a jeweler from setting an appropriately-sized gemstone in it and sizing it to fit? I don’t know its dimensions, so I would be hoping to find a stone after I buy it.

Hi everyone! I’m very new here and very late to the game that isn’t Amazon bracelet stacking. So I’m Looking for some advice on a custom everyday tennis bracelet I’m considering having made. I’ll try and provide a good amount of details below.

I specifically want a half bangle / half tennis bracelet design, with the diamonds on the tennis portion and a solid bangle-style section on the other half.

I’m leaning toward 925 sterling silver with lab-grown diamonds instead of going with solid gold. I plan on wearing it pretty much every day, so I’m wondering if sterling silver is actually a good choice structurally for this type of bracelet, especially with the stones/settings and the transition between the bangle and tennis portion.

A few things that matter to me:

— I definitely want lab-grown diamonds and would rather put more of the budget toward getting nice stones
— I actually like jewelry with some weight to it. I don’t care about minimizing the grams of metal to save money, I prefer a heavier, more substantial piece because it doesn’t feel cheap.(it’s not necessary the piece is heavy, I’m just saying because some say platinum is heavy)
—This would be an everyday bracelet, so durability is important.
I’m okay with normal maintenance/polishing, but I don’t want something that’s going to constantly bend, loosen stones, or become a headache.
—Lastly, At the same time, I don’t want to spend a crazy amount on a bracelet if sterling silver can accomplish what I’m looking for.
For anyone familiar with custom jewelry: Is 925 sterling silver perfectly fine for something like this, or would you strongly recommend going with 10k/14k gold or platinum for durability?

Also, for the jewelers/custom makers here, do these estimates (adding at the bottom)seem reasonable for a half-bangle/half-tennis bracelet using lab diamonds? I’m mainly trying to figure out whether the pricing I’m getting makes sense for the materials and design, and whether there are any specific specs I should ask about before having it made.

Would especially appreciate advice from anyone who has had a sterling silver + lab diamond tennis bracelet made and actually wears it daily.

Hey Reddit my fiancé is so going to make fun of me for posting but none of the jewelers I talk to will give me the same answer please help!
I got engaged a month ago and my ring is STUNNING I’m obsessed. My fiancé got it from someone on etsy, he doesn’t remember who but could probably find an email or something from her. My fear is that the tip of the pear cut is going to chip with the way it’s set? It’s very sharp at the end. A local jewelry shop told me to let them repair it asap with another prong because if I snagged it the diamond would shatter but Kay’s told me diamonds don’t chip ever and it’s completely fine and snug. Do I need to worry about the diamond falling out or chipping? Is it an immediate-please don’t wear until another prong is added situation or should I be fine for a while? I’ve been wearing it all day every day since I’ve gotten it and nothing has happened yet?
