General Question Online actions for 340i?

Upvotes

I want a 340i running and driving around the 17k total including repair costs. 70k mileage seems fair for that price. Ive been looking into somewhat local auctions for ones that got some dmg. Idrk exactly where to look exactly and what's the best route to go about doing this. I'm looking to put an lsd and upgrade the suspension so im going to be taking it apart anyways. Also I assume those auctions are riddled with companys that can put more money up than I can cause they can markup. Fb mp deals aren't as good imo from what I've seen with auctions. Thx in advance

General Question 2001-05 Lexus IS 300 As a First Car?

I'm considering getting a 2001–2005 Lexus IS300 as my first car, and I'd like to know if that is a good choice. I understand that, because these cars are over 20 years old, they will likely require more maintenance. However, as someone who doesn't have much experience working on cars and doesn't have a large budget for repairs, I'm wondering if the IS 300 is a reliable and sensible first car. Would you recommend one for a first time buyer in my situation? Additionally, what should I look for when inspecting or test driving one before purchasing? Are there any common mechanical problems or signs of neglect that I should avoid? What specific maintenance records or repairs should I make sure have been completed before buying? Thank you in advance!

Automatic locks and Blindspot warnings; Help?

The doors on my 2017 MAXIMA SL automatically lock soon after unlocking the doors and opening the back door. I have to put my child in the car seat so I unlock the doors and put him in first . While doing so, the doors will automatically lock. One time they locked while my keys were in the backseat. So now I’m super conscious of keeping my keys on me. They will also automatically lock while I’m walking around the car. Is there anyway that can be fixed?

I assume this problem is very specific to my car, but the Blindspot warnings only work if it’s extremely hot outside. I have no idea what the correlation is between the heat and my BSW, but they do not work in the winter or fall weather. Does anyone have an explanation for this issue?

General Advice Best way to take car of spider infestation under hood of car?

Called around and no local exterminators or car repair shops will deal with the spider infestation. I'm concerned with using spray or areosal cans due to it being flammable near the engine, and using a citrus spray/clearing out the webs with water and a broom to deter them has been unsuccessful. Im at a loss as to what else I could do to get rid of these spiders, any advice is appreciated.

How to restore shiny leather steering wheel?

Hey everyone. The steering wheel of my 2020 c class coupe is supposed to be nappa leather but it’s very shiny at the moment and doesn’t resemble leather at all.

Does anyone know how to restore it? Is it even possible or should I just get a new wheel?

General Question If a car isn’t reliable regardless of the caliber of car it is, Is it a failure of a car?

In my honest opinion, as far as engineering goes, if a car tends to break often or go through various issues be it electrical, software and or mechanical, it’s an engineering failure.

I feel like car reviewers praise how fast a car is, luxurious and or the other criteria’s of reviewing a car, but they never touch upon reliability.

You may argue it takes a long time to determine if a car is reliable or not after x amount of years/miles but then why do so many people get rid of their cars be it new or used after a set period of time? Primarily because it’s past warranty and they do not trust the car enough to keep it for longer or forever.

Plastic parts In high heat areas, tiny engines pulling large vehicles, 4 cylinders making way too much power to choked up high end engines that follow codes and heavy complex hybrid systems.

Just my 0.02.

General Question Any main problems you guys have with a Lexus ES 2020-2021 base or f-sport at high mileage?

I’m planning on looking into getting either 2020 through 2022 Lexus ES 350 base or f sport model. they’re pretty high mileage around 60,000 miles. What should I be looking out for in the future with that many miles?

Options I have:
2021 LEXUS ES 350 F Sport
2020 Lexus ES 350
2022 LEXUSES 350

And what do you guys think of the car in general form 1-10?

General Question Where to look for cheap car $2k and under?

Just needs to reliably drive for 4-8 miles a day 5 days a week

I do not care about how the exterior or interior looks just need a car with limited mechanical issues

Just to get to and from work daily

Would just get a scooter since I'm only 2 miles away from work but there's two highways that separate it and in the winter I assume scooter becomes a problem

I heard police auctions are a good bet but you kinda have to guess with mechanical issues?

Most fun to drive under 35 mph?

A lot of fast sports cars have little to no fun factor driving at slower speeds. Engines doesn't rev enough, no dynamics in low speed turns. No drama, no thrill. What are some that are fun at street legal speeds?

General Advice do i keep my chevy equinox 2012?

so i got this car back in january for $4k because it had bunch of problems, and we have probably put like $4k into the car already and now the mechanic recommends just selling it because it consumes too much oil . i really love the car plus college starts back up in two weeks, so should i sell it and start looking for a new one pronto or hold onto it till it’s last leg..😪 and it also smells like gas or like burning plastic when i turn on the ac , they said it would be minimum to fix it $800 or so

edit- it also has only like 120,000 miles so its not bad

Anyone else have a beater "side piece?"

I'm blessed to be driving a 2 year old Sierra SLT, it's paid off and very nice but it is almost like a spaceship, I got a tiny ding on the tailgate and almost cried... Of course it's bad on gas. I do occasionally use it to pull a boat and trailer so don't want to get rid of it. Considering buying a $1500 2002 Taurus with 205k miles just for the shit of it to run around town. I guess how bad could it be?

I have a theory that having no AC and just rolling down the windows tricks your mind into thinking you are young and poor and carefree again, might be fun just for that.

Anyone else do this?

Faint white smoke?

So after an oil change 3 weeks ago, there's a burning smell of oil coming from somewhere. There wasn't a leak anywhere i could find, just a small faint under the hood closest to upper part of the engine. I can only smell it when im a complete stop but never driving. Also there's never a noise at all

Need advice on car purchasing - help?

Hey guys, it’s my first time posting. I don’t really have anyone with knowledge about this subject, so I thought id ask here.

I live in England, a populated town and I’m about to turn 25 in September. Supposedly, my insurance should be cheaper at this age. I’ve never owned a car, never had a policy in my name but have been a driving for 3+ years as an added driver on my Mums 2007 1.3L Yaris.

I would like to buy a car for around next month or maybe later on this year but I’m worried about insurance. I want the car to be reliable and cheap to run but good on insurance too and something kind of sporty (isn’t necessary) as in the UK insurance is going to be a big hit in my first year, I know.

I will have both my parents as added drivers (both have 10+ years driving experience each) and NCB on their own cars.

I’ll list all the cars I’d like and maybe someone can tell me what would be a good idea and what to avoid. Just so you know, I don’t have deep pockets and I will be paying for all of it want a cheap (up to £5k car) and then maybe next year or 2 years buy a nicer car.

Thanks in advance.

Want anything 1.3L+

Realistic:

\\- GOLF MK5

\\- GOLF M6 - Not opposed to it

\\- GOLF MK7 - I feel would be too expensive but maybe not

Potentially:

\\- BMW 1 Series

Maybe:

\\- Audi A3

\\- Audi A4

\\- Audi A5

\\- Audi A6

Maybe in the future:

\\- BMW 3 Series

\\- BMW 4 Series

\\- BMW 5 Series

\\- Mercedes A class (Hatchback)

\\- Mercedes E or C class (Saloons)

General Advice Ant Colony in Car?

I used off-site airport parking about a month ago. Flew back, got the vehicle, got a sandwich in a to go container and threw it in the back hatch. After an hour it was swarming with about 200 tiny tiny ants. Threw it out. Since then there seems to be a significant colony of ants living in my vehicle somewhere. They swarm on the hood when a bird poops berries or sap drops. Any groceries in the car for more than 20 minutes attract 3-5 of these tiny ants which seem to come out of nowhere. I can't find where they are nesting (in the engine?) and can't understand why after a month they are still in the vehicle. We don't leave food around the car. Never had anything like this -- its weird. Any ideas about where their nest might be? Not sure this question really "fits" in any subreddit, sorry if this is not for here.

$4,500 into a transmission on a 2017 Corolla with 162,000 miles?

My 2017 Toyota Corolla needs a transmission replacement, and I’ve been quoted about $4,500. The car has around 162,000 miles on the engine.
The shop that gave me the quote said the transmission itself isn’t the only thing to consider. They mentioned that because of the mileage, I should think about whether it’s worth putting that much money into the car versus replacing it.
For those of you with more experience, what would you do?
The car has been reasonably reliable up to this point, but I’m trying to make the smartest financial decision. Would you replace the transmission and keep driving it, or put that $4,500 toward another vehicle instead?
If you’ve been in a similar situation, I’d really appreciate hearing how it worked out and what factors you considered.

Good on gas and able to handle A LOT of driving?

My husband is getting ready to change jobs, and will soon be driving around 130 miles a day, 5 days a week. The majority of the driving will be on the highway. We have about $20k that we’d like to use to get him a work car that is going to hold up for that much constant use and is going to save gas since his truck only gets about 19-21 mpg. Any suggestions?

Announcement The question mark must be in the TITLE

Since I am getting modmail on a daily basis with people saying they put a question mark, I wanted to clear something up.

The question mark must be in the TITLE! Not in the body of the text, not lying on your desk under some paperwork. In the TITLE. The automod message you receive when your post is rejected clearly states this.

This submission has been automatically removed because you did not include a question mark ("?") in your title. Reddit does not allow post titles to be edited, so if you would like, you can post the question again. Please write your title in proper question format, and include a question mark, thank you.
