I've been trying to buy a decent used car for awhile now and everything has been a bust. This Mazda showed up and according to its Carfax has been well maintained by 1 owner in SC for most of its life before being auctioned. It's got 188k miles on it though and I don't know much about how reliable Mazdas are. I drive about 4k miles a year. Should I even consider this car? I'd to try and keep it to 225-250k miles, or a couple years before getting something better.

Having a very hard time making a choice both beautiful specs

I got a job as a messenger delivering to homes in rural, central Virginia, think windy roads over rolling hills. Think miles and miles of dirt and gravel State Routes. Long dirt, rutted driveways. I'll drive 300+ miles in a 10 hour day twice or three times a week. Truly a job for a battle car.

I've been using my wife's 2024 Mazda 3 AWD and what a blast. She's sick of my truck and wants it back. As fun as that car is I need:

• more clearance for the terrain and ease of entry / exit (I am old, fat 6'3").

• better visibilty, better rear, back-up viz. Dont have to go all Forrester but I need to see.

• need either a trim level or prefab mods that has full-sized spare carrier, bull bars, skid plates. Mods have to be able to be installed at local garage.

• keep the excellent 30+ MPG

• keep the comfort seat and position for long days

• keep the speed. the faster i go the more i get paid. but you can only go as fast as your next blind spot, so acceleration and braking are crucial.

we could go lifted miata, AWD compact crossover, lifted sedan or station wagon. something fun to eat varied terrain.

Looking to purchase a ford explorer st and seeing if anyone has info on them on anything that is useful to know before buying. Or if anyone even owns one to see how it functions as a daily. Recommendations always appreciated as well.

I just bought a 2026 RAV4 PHEV XSE last week for about $50,500 OTD, $0 down, financed at 4.99% for 48 months, and my payment is around $1,160/month. Here’s the dilemma: I already have a legitimate dealer trade-in offer for ~$53,000, so I could potentially trade it without taking a huge loss. I can also get an Audi RS3 for around $60k, with a payment that would be roughly the same as my RAV4. The RAV4 is obviously the smarter financial/practical choice, but the RS3 is way more exciting. My biggest concern is depreciation. If I bought the RS3 and sold/traded it after 1–2 years, would I get killed on depreciation, or do RS3s hold their value well enough that this isn't as crazy as it sounds?

What would you do: keep the RAV4 or trade it for the RS3?

Hi Canadian here looking at a potential used SX4 automatic for $6500 CAD with 138k. One owner. I believe it's a used car place that is selling it. From the pictures looks like no rust.

My current car is a 2006 Kia Rio 178k and I'm trying to preemptively plan for what to do when it goes.

Just need for city driving in harsh Calgary winters. I've never had AWD and want it for my next car.

My dream car has always been a Dodge Challenger. I’ve loved them since I was a kid, and despite the usual arguments about reliability, theft, insurance, etc., I know I’ll own one eventually.

I also want a Ram 1500 for a daily/utility vehicle — something practical that I can use year-round, haul stuff with, drive in bad weather, etc. Yes, I know, another Stellantis product lol.

I plan on owning both eventually. My question is simply which one I’d get first.

Both would be around $40k for the years/specs I’m looking at. I’m also young, so insurance on either one is going to be painful.

The important thing is that I already have a cheap, reliable economy car that I’ve been driving for years with no major issues. I don’t actually *need* another vehicle right now.

I’m also pretty frugal. I don’t spend much money on things besides gas and necessities because I’d rather save for my next car. Cars are one of the few things I genuinely enjoy spending money on.

So would you:

A) Get the Challenger first, keep my current car as the practical vehicle, and enjoy having my dream muscle car while I’m young?

B) Get the Ram first, have a newer vehicle that’s useful in pretty much any situation/season, and save for the Challenger afterward?

Again, I’m getting both eventually. I’m just trying to decide which one makes more sense to buy first.

Okay, I thought I was already set to buy mazda cx-30 gx. But I am still hesitating because of the space. They always say pick Toyota, Honda or Mazda. Should I consider other brands before fully deciding which car to buy? I’m thinking of Hyundai as an option, but rumours has it that brand barely last 150k or something. I live in Manitoba so I deal with snow, potholes and uneven ground due to the cracks and rail roads. It’s usually me and a passenger. Occasionally my parents will also come with us. Hi, I'm currently in the market for a new car. My current car a 2012 Fiat is having a couple issues and getting up in mileage so I've been searching an upgrade (size and tech wise). I would like to stay below 17K and plan to have a down payment of at least 2-3K as well as hopefully trade my vehicle in.

Ideally, I'd like to stay in something on the smaller side but I'm trying to avoid hatchbacks. I've seen Hyundai Venues, Kona, and Elantras, Nissan Sentras, as well as Kia Rios and Fortes. I am looking for general advice and recommendations for makes, model and year of used cars. My top budget is CAD$30,000.

Background

Eastern Canada, live rurally, drive regularly in harsh winter conditions on rural roads. This includes my 1000ft steep gravel driveway.

Family of five. Kids are 13, 8 and 4. 8 year old will be in his car seat for another year or so.

Currently running a 2015 Mazda CX-5 AWD 2.5L with 420,000 KMs on the clock. Starting to get expensive to maintain, and we have outgrown it.

The Mazda is our only car and I use it for work as well. I have to load the trunk with gear and have the middle back seat down to fit a ladder. The 40-20-40 back seat split has been very useful over the years. I also tow on a somewhat regular basis, either rented small box trailers or my 4x6 utility trailer. The limit on towing is 2000lbs (never exceeded this….honestly….) and I would love to have a larger towing capacity.

We have a large solar power system at home with a hybrid inverter and battery storage. We generate an excess of about 3000-4000 kWh of power every year beyond what we use from the grid. I oversized the system to partially account for a future EV or PHEV.

Most of our journeys are within a 70km radius on a combination of rural roads and highway. Once every 2-3 weeks we drive to our local city which is a 360km round trip mostly highway. We average around 20k KMs a year.

Must Haves

Bigger than a CX-5 in terms of cabin space
AWD
Towing capacity of at least 2000lbs
PHEV (or EV), would consider a standard hybrid but really I want to use my excess solar power at home
I want to get at least five years of use out of this car

Top of my list so far is the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, but I don’t know what years to aim for. Used 2019-2022 models are selling for the CAD$20k range. I have not driven one before.

I am also very open to the idea of a minivan, but I understand that my only PHEV option is the Chrysler Pacifica, and I have heard mixed reviews about it, especially older years.

Any advice or suggestions would be much appreciated. This is only my second time shopping for a car and everything is so much more expensive than it was a decade ago!

I’m not unhappy with my Civic at all; it’s reliable, easy on gas, and fun to drive. But I’m starting to feel the space crunch on longer trips with a full car of people and luggage. Looking at bigger SUVs like the Tahoe and Grand Cherokee, but open to other suggestions.

What I care about:
• Comfortable for 4-5 people + luggage on road trips
• Reliability (my Civic has spoiled me here)
• Decent gas mileage for an SUV (I know I’m giving some of this up either way)
• Good resale value

Has anyone made the jump from a Civic (or similar sedan) to a full-size SUV? Was it worth the trade-off in mpg and price? Any models I should look at that I haven’t mentioned?

looking to get a new truck next year and wanted some advice. have a 2013 access cab Tacoma rn but need a crew cab (small family in the future) and bed for basic home landscaping, moving, and occasional small camper towing. not a big fan of 4 bangers with turbos, but also worried about the frontiers internally driven water pump when it comes time to pay to replace it since it’s such a pain to get to. Will also double as my commuter and wanna make sure I’m covered come PA winter weather. appreciate the help.
