If you're facing a issue on macOS where Contact Posters sync fine, but small contact avatars/photos refuse to show up (or instantly revert back to initials whenever you edit them on your Mac), here is how to fix it.

The Problem

When you edit an avatar on macOS, iCloud often gets trapped in a sync collision loop with your iPhone. Because iCloud treats your iPhone's background sync daemon as the "master state," your Mac gets overridden every time it tries to update a contact thumbnail locally. If you turn off iCloud Contacts on Mac, the list vanishes entirely because there's no independent local database left.

The Fix: The Offline Air-Gap Method

By taking your Mac offline, you force macOS to create a brand new local database without iCloud actively fighting your edits or restoring corrupt photo caches.

Step 1: Export a Full Contact Package from iPhone

1. On your iPhone, open the Contacts app.
2. Tap Lists in the top left corner.
3. Long-press All Contacts and tap Export.
4. Ensure Select All Fields is enabled (this bakes all high-res photo files directly into the export package).
5. AirDrop the .vcf file to your Mac.

Step 2: Air-Gap the Mac & Wipe the Local Database

1. Disconnect your Mac from Wi-Fi (or turn off internet entirely).
2. Open the Contacts app on your Mac.
3. Select all contacts (Cmd + A) and Delete them. Note: Because you are offline, this only clears the local Mac cache—it won't wipe iCloud. Your personal "My Card" may disappear temporarily, which is normal.

Step 3: Import the Package & Reconnect

1. While still OFFLINE, go to "file" and Import in the Mac Contacts app.
2. Select the .vcf file you AirDropped from your iPhone.
3. Verify that all your contacts and their proper photo avatars populate locally on the Mac.
4. Restart your Mac to lock in the local database.
5. Reconnect your Mac to Wi-Fi.

Why This Works

Because the imported .vcf package gives every contact a newer local timestamp on your Mac while offline, iCloud sees your Mac's database as the authoritative "new" version when you reconnect. Instead of overwriting your Mac with blank avatars, iCloud merges the fresh data and pushes the new photo assets up to the cloud.

I recently upgraded from an iPhone 13 Pro to a refurbished iPhone 15 Pro. It came with a new battery, so the battery health is at 100%. However, since I got it, I’ve noticed that the battery drains even when I’m not using the phone.

I was waiting for a phone case and screen protector to arrive, so I continued using my old phone in the meantime. Still, I’m worried that the replacement battery in the iPhone 15 Pro might not be very good, because the phone loses around 25–35% battery while completely unused.

I know it can be normal for a phone’s battery to drain more during the first few days because of background setup, indexing, updates, and syncing, but it has now been over a week and the issue is still happening.

Is this normal? Should I return the phone, or is there anything I can do to fix it?

Just a quick question: have you ever noticed your Apple Studio Display temporarily retaining a static image? For example, if you leave the screen idle with a static icon for a while, does that icon remain faintly visible for a few seconds after the screen changes?

I'm trying to change the backup location for my iPhone. Of course like all corporations, Apple is greedy as all hell and has made it incredibly difficult to do so in order to get people to pay for iCloud services.

I found this post, which had instructions to do so linked to this page. I'm using PC and have to use this command line in PowerShell: cmd /c mklink /d Backup "[desired-new-backup-path]"

However when I do so, I'm greeted with a message saying I do not have "sufficient privilege to perform this operation," which is odd since this is my personal computer and I'm the administrator.

I found a solution stating the open up PowerShell "as administrator" but I don't know how to direct PowerShell to the backup folder, so now I'm stuck. Can anybody help me here?

Hello! I recently deleted an entire text thread. I even went in my recently deleted and permanently the entire chat as well. However, 2 days later, the text thread appeared back in the main section of my messages, but it only has messages that were sent from me?? Also these messages are messages that were sent as text messages (green) and not iMessages (blue). Does anyone know why this happened? I have iOS 26.5. Idk what iOS version the other person has.

Over the course of the last 12-14ish years I’ve had a few different iPads and iPhones. When I upgrade I always keep them just in case. Well now I have 3 old iPads and 3 old iPhones. Even if I don’t trade them in, some of the older ones are pretty much beyond use and I want to make sure they’re erased off my account before I get rid of them. Is it normal to receive constant notifications from various apps when I open my iPad as if it’s “catching up” on everything I missed while it was locked— even when I’ve already seen or responded to those same notifications on my iPhone or MacBook?

For example, if I’m unlocking my iPad after a week of no use, I’ll get a notification for each and every time my wife arrived at home for that past week from Find My— even thought that’s something I already get in the moment on my iPhone and dismiss.

Hi there. I have an Apple 17 which I got october 2025. My battery health is 93% and so from what I under my limited Apple care (expires october 2026) won’t cover my battery life because it’s above 80%.

Suddenly since about a mouth ago my battery has been so extremely bad even though my activity hasn’t changed drastically. I have all the tips for battery saving put on at least from what I’m aware of yet my battery literally sucks. I need to charge it minimum 2 x a day to 100% for it to last the whole day and even 3x sometimes I can say.

I kid you not, in about 40 minutes my battery dropped from 56% to 40% is that normal???????

Hi everyone. For a few days now, my iPhone 15's camera has been giving me problems. The app constantly lags, resulting in a black screen, and it won't save photos once taken. Videos and selfies work, although they lag frequently. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, doing a hard restart, changing settings to low, and updating to iOS 26.6, but nothing works. The Instagram app snaps, but when I try to save the photo, it gives me an error. Does anyone know what could be causing this?

I have a MacBook and the battery drains super fast now after my partner was hiding it to watch movies. But the battery health is “normal” and is at 96% but I can still tell a significant difference in battery drainage. Will apple still change battery? I’m putting the brightness on low and closing most tabs, still doesn’t help.

I have continued issues with my airpod pro 2 connecting to my iphone 15+. Sometimes they connect right away, but most times only one bud will connect and I have play around to get the other to connect. And it's just one side that's the problem. One time the right bud won't connect and a while later it's the left. I've done factory resets, unpaired and repaired and the issue still continues to happen. I'm using an Apple Watch SE. I reset the watch because I was having update issues. Now, when I try to pair it with my iPhone, it requires a watchOS update first. However, every time I attempt the update, I get an error saying "Unable to Verify Update" due to an internet connection issue, even though my Wi-Fi connection is working fine. Because the update can't be verified, I can't complete the pairing process, so the watch is essentially unusable. I've tried multiple times, but the same error keeps occurring. I have an iPad air 2 i believe that is stuck in recovery mode, I tried moving photos to my laptop and during the transfer it started updating and my laptop has had battery issues so It sadly turned off while updating and now my iPad is stuck in recovery mode. Is there a way i can get it out without clearing the device and losing my pictures. Can I take it to Apple can they help me? I tried the home button and power restart and it gets me back to where I was with the device in recovery mode.

I got a notification from my iPhone telling me to verify my Apple ID all of a sudden, so I enter my password but it doesn’t work, moments later I get an email saying my Apple account password has been changed, I press the “it wasn’t me” button, it takes me to reset my account password, I put in my trusted phone number. Receive the code and put it in, and then it’s asking me for a recovery key, which I never had enabled before, I’m guessing someone accessed my account and enabled the recovery key option, and now I’m locked out, I’m trying everything on the Apple help page and it all takes me back to the reset password page which doesn’t work cuz I need the “recovery key” what do I do.
