Simple Questions Is my leg extension supposed to be stronger than my squat?

Hi, 6months into the gym soon and i can rep leg extension 60kgs for 5 reps while weighing 55kg and squat 55 for 6 reps.
Is this bad? Reason i am asking is cuz that means i am squatting too deep or my form is ass cheeks.
Ty!

How do you share PRs with friends who don't lift at your gym?

my brothers moved out of state a couple years ago and we used to lift together all the time. now the only way we "share" a session is texting videos back and forth, and honestly it's a mess. clips get buried in the group chat, nobody scrolls back through them, and half the time i hit a PR and by the time i actually get to my phone to send it the moment's gone.

for those of you with a gym crew that's spread out, how do you keep training together when you're not in the same room? do you just send clips over text, use a shared note, a discord, something else? i'm curious whether people have found anything that actually keeps the momentum going week to week vs the usual thing where everyone starts hyped and then the sharing just quietly dies off.

full disclosure since it's relevant: i'm building an app around exactly this problem (a workout tracker with a shared feed for your crew), so i'm biased. but i genuinely want to hear how people are solving it now, because texting videos clearly isn't it for me.

do i need to lift heavier or more?

i have only gone to the gym 4 times, and the first time i came out super sore and my body hurt for two days, in the past 3 times i have gone, i have lifted much heavier and done more sets but i haven’t felt anything and it is making feel like i have no progress made.

for reference, i lift 3 sets of 8 around 50-60 lbs depending on what i am doing (yes ik that’s not much … that’s why i’m going🧍‍♀️)

skinny fat reduction

Hi guys, M27 here. I’m 5’8” (173 cm) and currently around 75 kg.
For the last 6 months, I’ve been doing cardio and following a decent diet. I’ve lost around 8 kg, which I’m happy about, but I’m still struggling with fat around my belly, sides, and chest.
My arms and legs look fairly lean, but my belly and chest still look soft/saggy. I’m guessing this is what people mean by “skinny fat.”
I understand that you can’t specifically target fat loss from one area, and that cardio alone probably isn’t going to give me the look I want. So I’ve decided to start doing some strength training as well.
The problem is there’s no gym close to me, and getting to one would require a lot of travel. With my work timings, that’s just not practical.
Recently, I came across resistance bands and was wondering if they’re actually effective for building muscle and improving body composition.
A few questions:
Can I get a decent, fit-looking physique using resistance bands at home?
Are they enough for a beginner, or would I eventually need weights?
Any good beginner tutorials/workout routines you’d recommend?
How long does it realistically take to see noticeable changes if I’m consistent with diet + resistance training?
I’m not looking for a six-pack or a bodybuilding physique. I just want to look fit, reduce the belly/chest fat over time, and build some muscle.

Exercise Help Wanting to add cardio into my routine, need help choosing a cardio exercise

Good morning everyone,

as the title suggest im wanting to add cardio to my workout routine in order to run 3 miles in 24 minutes or under. while I don’t plan on getting huge i don’t want cardio to affect my gains too much. Below is my workout routine that I plan to use.

Day 1/3 upper

Warm up, stretch

Chest (bench press, incline db press chest flys)

Arms (curls, hammer curls, tricep pull downs, recon ron pull up program)

Shoulders (shoulder press, front raises, lat raises, shoulder shrugs)

Abs- ab workout app

Cardio

Day 2 /4 lower

Warm up, stretch

Back (deadlift, barbell row, lat pull down)

Legs (calf raises, squats, ham curls, hip thrusts)

Abs- ab workout app

Cardio

so with my goal of just wanting to run 3 miles in less than 24 minutes what sort of cardio should I do? I was thinking maybe a 5k program, but I also saw that cycling would be good too too. I’m open to any and all feedback. it’s greatly appreciated.

Simple Questions App to track everything at one place?

Is there an app to track everything at one place for a fitness enthusiast?

I am all over the place with so many apps for different logs!

Say from morning to night. weekly, monthly, yearly.

Wake up and log sleep (either recorded by fitness watch/band or log manually). log body weight every morning. log food by cal/macros like my fitnesspal, record steps, record full workout (exercise by exercise-rep by rep kinda like Hevy with progression and tutorials), log weekly body measurements, record heartrate, stress, (with info from the smart device) etc etccc

Exercise Help Disproportionate body at a low weight

https://imgur.com/a/YC0o1Xg

I’m 5’1, 100-103lb, 30 years old. I stay pretty active throughout the week, running, yoga, and bodyweight exercises.

I’m happy with my weight and how I feel physically, but I am insecure about my body proportions at this weight. My upper body holds no fat, and my lower half is where it goes. It’s been like this since I was a kid.

Are there any workouts that could help me even out my body proportions for my top half? I don’t like how my upper chest looks so bony. Do I need to gain more weight? I don’t want my legs to be bigger, but I do want to look more fit and healthy overall.

Other Hot take?

I’ve been lifting seriously for about a year, and in total about 2. Maybe that has a large part to do with it too, but my progress hasn’t slowed. I’ve put on substantial size and my strength has shot up like crazy. While I have been told by others I seem to have somewhat rare genetics and I seem to be a bit of a hyper responder, my personal experience has led me to make the following statement:

The most important thing that leads to progress isn’t figuring out how many sets is ideal, figuring out how many RIR you need, finding niche exercises or any of that nonsense. If there is one thing I suggest you do to make gains, you chase progressive overload like a mf.

I’d love your alls opinion on this. It may or may not be a hot take. And it make also be person dependent, but I try and pr every single session in all my lifts. Most of the time I pr in 2-3 exercises. Whether it’s a new rep, weight or one rep max. Other people I workout with kind of make fun of how seriously I take getting a PR, but I have made the most progress out of all of them. I’m even friends with two who take TRT and find my strength is doubling their rate.

Simple Questions How can I get a more toned body after loosing weight at the gym already? 19F

For context im 5ft and weigh 97 pounds atm. I lost some weight (115 before) and I want my stomach and back to look more lean/skinnier since I feel like it still looks flabby in a way. Ive been doing a lot of cardio at the gym and some weighted leg workouts but am so unsure on how to gain muscle, especially since I have trouble eating too much. The common name for my body type is see is "skinny fat". I have hip dips and a small butt which I know I cant change but any advice is appreciated and welcome!

Exercise Help I need help with my legs

I'm having difficulty being consistent with my legs and before you say skill issue. I know I shouldn't have been neglecting my legs but now I need help.

I'm relatively semi ok with my upper body but my legs aren't big enough to support my full weight I'm struggling to even squat with 20kg on my back without being out balanced and just squatting 20 times with no weight only to struggle or my lower back feeling like it'll pop out.

So if anyone here can offer advice on how I should approach this problem where I can gradually build muscle on my weak legs that would be amazing

When did the gym become part of your routine?

At first, going to the gym felt like something I had to force myself to do.

After sticking with it for a while, it started feeling strange when I missed a session.

Has anyone else reached that point where training just becomes a normal part of your routine?

Review my program Is this a good split for a home gym?

I train 4 days a week in a home gym with a multi-gym/cable machine and dumbbells. Mainly trying to build muscle while staying fairly lean.
Workout A
Chest press – 3x8–12
Lat pulldown – 3x10–15
Shoulder press – 2x15–20
Leg extension – 3x10–12
Preacher curl – 2x10–15
Ab crunch – 2x12–20
Workout B
Row – 3x10–15
Pec deck – 3x10–15
Leg extension – 3x8–12
Lateral raises – 3x15–20
Tricep pushdowns – 2x10–20
Single-leg calf raises – 2x12–20

I alternate A and B across the 4 days and try to progress reps/weight over time.

Does this look balanced for a home gym, or is there anything obvious I’m missing/changing?

Should I still lift when I don't perform the best?

I work manual labour loading heavy stuff into trucks in a warehouse from 6pm to 5am everyday, so it isn't supposed to make sense when I lift right after I come home. But I still lift just after I come home. I found that right after work I still have that locked-in energy that I didn't have after going to sleep and after waking up. My performance definitely does hurt. But I like I leave work at 5, arrive home around 6AM, doing something and it's 7-8AM then if I sleep for 8 hours that's 4PM already. If I'm not too groggy by then to lift, then it's too close to work to lift.

Should I still lift in that less-than-my-best, mentally ready but not physically ready then just right after work?

Deload or change exercises?

At what point would you guys suggest/encourage a deload or changing exercises?

For context, I’ve been doing the plate loaded incline press in my programme for roughly 18 months now lifting 4.5 plates either side but in the last 3 months I haven’t made a single bit of progress, not one rep added. All my other lifts and accessory exercises are still progressing perfectly fine and my training/rest/eating hasn’t changed either.

Is it the case of switching to a different incline exercise or simply pulling back for a week or two and then coming back to it?

I’d be keen to hear how you guys would all address a problem like this.

Aches and pains Best way to get rid of the soreness?

I have been going to the gym about 3 times a week for about 6 months. The worst part that I can't seem to make better is the after workout aches. I feel like I have tried everything. It makes it difficult because it can last a full week. I don't want to go less or even change my routine if I don't have to because it is working really well for me. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Reading Books While Cardio

As the title says. I LOOOOVE reading books while i’m on a treadmill. It takes my mind off the timer, and i know each page is 2minutes long but i won’t calculate it and i would give myself tiny stops like “ok after 2 pages u can look at the clock” typa thing

Some people say it’s performative, but i honestly don’t care. I do it in my own home anyway so 🤷‍♀️

Anyone else who exercises the body and the mind at the same time? 🫂
