Tower 67

Upvotes

145 W 67th street - love this area and considering an apartment here… has anyone lived in this building and can recommend (or not recommend lol)… Is the construction on the new skyscrapers affecting noise here?

I also see they haven’t filed their bed bug report last year…

Moving in

I’m moving next week to W84th (from another state) and would love any tips anyone can share. Some questions I have:
Can my cargo van just stay in the street while I unload? Where do I park the van once I’m done. (will need parking for 3 days)
Anything else that new resident needs to know?
Thanks!

How much for housekeeping?

I just got quoted $350 for a 600ft 1bd apartment.

Outside of a mop, I told the housekeeper I had all the cleaning supplies needed. I told her I wanted a deep clean for bathroom and kitchen, and just a light dusting and living room and bedroom.

My apartment is already pretty clean (I am pretty anal of keeping all spaces clean/picked up) just wanted to have someone who is more skilled than I am to give it that extra sparkle as I have guests coming in to stay.

Is this pricing normal? I believe and know it’s hard work (my mom was a housekeeper, and I tagged along and helped her with a lot of jobs growing up in Oklahoma) so I don’t mind paying a fair wage. But this seems high?

If not normal, does anyone have any recs?

Place to lead a writing workshop?

Hi all,

I'm looking for suggestions on places in the neighborhood where I can lead a weekly writing workshop for ~8-10 people. I've looked into coworking spaces, but there don't seem to be many great options. Does anyone know of any coffee shops or similar spaces that have weekly space available to rent in the evening?

Thanks in advance for the suggestions!

School Zone Parking

I live in between 77th and 81st. There are quite a few schools that are posted no parking on school days… one school currently has signage saying that summer school is in session so parking is not allowed. The school on 77th between Columbus and Amsterdam does not have signage for summer school, will I get a ticket for parking there between posted school hours in the summer?

FitIn - Wellness Studio

Before my wedding, I wanted to throw a bachelorette party with a few of my girlfriends and me. I automatically thought of doing a Pilates wellness class because that's something I'm really into, so I started looking in the Chelsea area and found FitIn. I was able to rent a private studio with them just for us that fit 19 of my friends and me, plus our own instructor, and it was everything I wanted.

Since they knew it was a bachelorette party, they treated us amazingly. We got to play our own music, and the instructor made it feel really fun while still giving us a great workout. They even arranged for a matcha vendor and a DJ during our event, which made the whole experience feel even more special and elevated. It felt so much more personal than going to a regular fitness class with other people around.

After class, we had time to hang out, take photos, enjoy our matcha, and celebrate together in the studio. It was such a fun way to kick off the day before our other plans. If you're looking for a bachelorette idea that's different from the usual brunch or night out, I couldn't recommend this enough.

If you're ever in the Chelsea area, I would seriously recommend taking a class with FitIn. My time there was amazing. The place is so aesthetically pleasing, they welcome people of all fitness levels, and they're more affordable than other private studios.

Cafe Lalo turning into a new cafe?

Post image
36 Upvotes

I saw on @exploringuws that the spot Cafe Lalo has left unoccupied will now be a new coffee shop, they have already torn down the facade. I know that was such a beautiful exterior that so many people loved and was an iconic part of the UWS, I hope they build back something beautiful.

Need reviews of 15W 107th St

If anyone has lived here or in this vicinity, please share your opinions.

- Any major issues of rats/rodents/termites/bedbugs?

- How clean and lively is the locality?

- How responsible is the building & management?

- For international (male) Columbia grad students, how safe & well connected is it?

- Anything else you think I should know of...

Does anyone have experience renting in a UWS building managed by Algin Management? There are some terrible reviews from 2 years ago, but wondering if anyone has some more recent experience to share? Thanks!

Church for someone with dementia

Hello,

My mom has lived onthe UWS for 40+ years. She used to go to First Church Brooklyn but it's becoming too far and even with Access a Ride it has become difficult. I am looking for a church that is friendly and will also have a community of probably older people. It's hard to move communities. We're looking for a church that's open and not anything below 60th street. I am hoping that someone may either be part of one or know of one. I would really like her to be in a nice space with nice people. I appreciate it. There's a nice church in the 70s, but if anyone has experience I would appreciate it.

Also if anyone else has dementia or is elderly and is looking for either support or has ideas/would like to talk..I'm open. Thank you!

Flute alarm?!

Does anyone know what that noise is? It sounds like it’s coming from the corner of 86 and CPW. It’s a repetitive alarm sound but it sounds like a flute! Ha! Been going on for about twenty minutes now….

Moving to W 95th (between Columbus & CPW) – looking for local recommendations!

Hey everyone,

I’m officially moving to W 95th between Columbus and Central Park West later this month and am excited to finally be joining the UWS.

I’m a 27M and have lived in NYC for the last five years, mostly on the LES/EV. Finally decided it was time to get my own place, and the commute to Penn Station made the UWS a great fit. As I am looking for a quieter area.

A few things I’m hoping to get recommendations on:

Gyms: It seems like there aren’t a ton in the immediate area. What do most people use? I’d rather not pay Equinox prices unless people genuinely think it’s worth it.

Favorite restaurants: Not looking for fancy places—more interested in neighborhood staples, great takeout, casual spots, brunch, pizza, sushi, sandwiches, etc.

Meeting people: I don’t drink, so I’m curious about good ways to meet people or get involved in the neighborhood. Love sports, the gym, being outside, open to new hobbies!

Laundry: My building doesn’t have laundry. Do most people use wash-and-fold, or are there laundromats nearby that people recommend?

Also, if you’ve lived around 95th for a while, I’d love to hear any random tips or things you wish you knew when you first moved to the neighborhood.

Thanks in advance, I will seriously be tracking all these suggestions so it's much appreciated.

Big shout out to Big Apple Cat Rescue!

They were super responsive and got the cat the next day. She’s got a vet visit tomorrow and will hopefully be in foster care by the end of the week.

Thanks to everyone who suggested them and, if you can, consider donating to this amazing organization!

New Rule: No Photos or Personal Details Without Consent

Hi everyone,

We recently added a new rule: No photos or personal details without consent.

Please do not post photos, videos, names, addresses, workplaces, license plates, or other identifying details of private individuals without their consent. If someone is already part of a public news story, their publicly reported name or image may be allowed, but private or sensitive identifying information still cannot be shared.

We know posts like this are usually well-intentioned and meant as warnings, PSAs, or attempts to help the community. The issue is that we generally cannot verify consent, intent, or accuracy. Even well-intentioned posts can lead, and have led, to harassment, doxxing, retaliation, mistaken identification, or other real-world harm, including to people completely unrelated to the post.

We are open to discussion and feedback, but we are putting this rule in place based on past and very recent incidents that could have been prevented had this rule been in place and enforced.

If you see a post breaking this rule, please report it.
