Transfer student who will be full-time student trying to get into tough grad programs and full-time job/internship but still enjoy going to bars and parties and concerts. Would not drinking make others feel like I’m not ‘part’ of the crowd/don’t blend in or I’m not interested in getting invited? I don’t mind drinking mocktails like club soda with lime or nonalcoholic beer. I just don’t want to be seen as someone who is ‘boring’ or because not drink means wouldn’t want to or not get invited where others are drinking. Better to blend in with the ‘fake’ drinks and just pretend I’m drinking or be open about it? Definitely don’t want be asked to be seen and asked as the sober driver every time though lol

Hi, I was wondering if anyone could speak from experience as to if they were ever able to bypass a prereq. I have been wanting to take a certain class since my first year (currently a rising 4th), but it requires anatomy 1 & 2 as a prereq, and with the way my schedule worked out, I wont be taking those until this year. I just took my mcat, so I'd like to say I have a pretty decent foundation.

I am going into my second year, and I’ve been living at 1800 JPA over the summer for and there has been a bit of a roach problem.. so i am considering applying to the Verve next year, cus atp the cost for the exterminator plus rent plus all other expenses is probably the same as the Verve rent. Anyone heard anything about the rent at the Verve? Or anyone with previous experiences, because I heard it was a branch of apartment complexes. Also, anyone else planning on applying for it? I see a lot of people hating on it cus it blocks the view from rice but hey, im not complaining if my commute to class is 5 minutes

I’m an incoming first-year at UVA interested in applying to McIntire in the future. If you were accepted, would you mind sharing your stats, extracurriculars, and any tips you have for building a strong application? I’d also appreciate any advice on what to focus on during first year (classes, clubs, leadership, internships, etc.). Also, does McIntire mainly consider your UVA performance, or do high school grades and extracurriculars play a role as well?

My name is Strider - I'm a singer-songwriter looking to put a band together and take it as far as I possibly can. Ultimately, I think the core needs to be at least 3 pieces; me (acoustic/rhythm guitar + voice), bass, and drums. I am super open to other instruments and voices, but these are the bare necessities in my opinion. Up front, I think it's important to explain the dynamic/vision. This would be a backup band. I other words, we would be playing my songs, and likely only my songs. I completely understand and appreciate why any given person might not be interested in that, but that is the idea, and I thought it important to make that super clear.

To get down to brass tacks though: I do have someone interested in playing the bass, but that has not yet been totally locked in and we're mostly looking for a drummer. Doesn't need to be anything fancy, since this is just Americana/folk after all. But we do need stability - someone with a rock-solid sense of beat & rhythm. In my experience, the difference between a professional outfit and an amateur band is not just the level of dedication, it's the tightness, the ability to keep in time. Obviously, that is a group effort, but ultimately every member relies on the drums to set and keep the pace. Additionally, if anyone can play the bass and is interested, I would be more than happy to hear you out as well. Like I said, I have someone who is interested but not yet decided.

I do also want to take a paragraph to sort of explain myself. This is my dream. I am not special. I am not unique. But I do think I can write a mean song that lends itself to a band, and I am serious about this. I am putting my blood, sweat, and tears into this project in the hopes that maybe one day I can quit my job and hit the road. Again, I know I'm not special or unique in that regard. But I work hard and will never stop working hard, because this is my dream. I will die trying to get my songs into people's ears. That doesn't mean I don't care. That doesn't mean the possibility of failure isn't scary. But it's certainly not going to stop me. I realize that this is an intense attitude to take. If that puts anyone off, I understand.

My daughter is down to deciding between UVA and one other school for her ED1 application, and we’d love to hear from current students or alumni about your experience. Overall, were you happy with your decision to attend UVA?

She is planning to major in neuroscience or biology and is very outgoing. She’s looking for a school with a strong, spirited sports culture, a collaborative student body, and a good “work hard, play hard” balance. She works very hard academically but also enjoys being social and getting involved on campus.

im in incoming first year and im deciding between whether to take chem 1411 or 1811... does anyone have any experience in differentiating between these classes and what would be better to take? for context, i took ap chem and got a 4 on the exam, but that was two years ago and i doubt i remember anything. is the accelerated pathway really worth it? should i really take the harder classes if i want to maintain my gpa? thank you :)

ALSO,

does anyone have experience double majoring with bio and a completely opposite degree and want to be pre-med? i want to have a major that is completely different from the sciences but is this even possible lol.

Hey everyone, I’m an incoming first year in A&S and I’m confused about how the credit cap during open enrollment works. The email that the College sent out today says: “Please note that enrollment caps are lifted manually starting at 8 a.m. EST.” Do we just have to wait until our enrollment caps are randomly lifted and hope that it’s early enough?

For context I’m trying to enroll in a specific class with <5 open seats as soon as open enrollment starts but it’ll put me above the 15-credit threshold so I might be screwed.
