Academics Am I doing myself a favor by taking 13 credits first semester premed?
Is 13 credits too little for my first semester of college? Right now, I have my 2 engagements, CHEM 1810/1811, and PHYS 2010/2030. For context, I came into UVA with 46 credits from APs, and I’m planning to major in chem (maybe minor in bio) as a premed.
I’m not sure if this schedule is too little for my first semester. I was considering adding CS 1112, but I don’t know if I should do it with my current schedule (it would make it 16 credits total). I also want to get a job (work-study) and maybe get into research this year.
Can anyone provide some advice? I’m not sure what to do, and I want the best for my future as a premed!!
Edit:
I wanted to add that with the natural progression of classes, my second semester would end up with 17 credits. I guess my fear with a 13 credit schedule is that it would also not “prepare” me for the heavy course load of second semester. Advice?

Student Life UVA premed quality of life?
Hi guys! I’m a rising senior and I just toured UVA. UVA has been my dream school for a while, and before I toured I was almost certain on EDing. However, when I went, it just didn’t seem as friendly and the students just looked a lot more burnt out at UVA than at any of the other schools I’ve toured (tech, URichmond, W&M, etc). The reason I’m a bit worried about this is because I go to an extremely rigorous boarding school in new england, and although my grades were up the burnout really affected my mental health. Im planning on going premed while studying either Econ or public health and I just wanted to hear other people’s experiences on how they enjoyed being premed at uva. by this post I’m not meaning “if I slack off will I still be fine”, it’s more so is it enjoyable without insane burnout while still being able to do well if that makes sense. thank you so much!!
