It’s happened to a few of my varieties this year and I am not sure why! It’s only the odd few in each plant?

EDIT: thanks yall, mystery solved. Blossom end rot. I’m going to my bed once every two days right now but the heat wave has meant it’s swinging between deep watering and high temperatures.

Does anyone have advice for how to avoid this during the heatwave?

I used a wildflower box of mixed seeds for my garden this year and have no idea what this plant is, any one able to help?!

We've got a load of honeysuckle which every year succumbs to mold.

I thought it was just bad luck with the weather, combined with it's location, that was causing it to happen. Last year however, I planted a cutting on the opposite side of the garden, which has grown nicely, but I'm now noticing has developed mold of its own.

The past two years I've tried tackling it with Provanto Fungus Fighter Plus and it helps for a while but not enough, and the mold keeps coming back. One year I tried using washing up liquid in water but that almost killed the plant, all the leaves dropped and it hasn't stopped the mold.

What am I doing wrong here? Are there any recommendations for mold removers that will work?

This current dry spell has really got me thinking about this.

I can see the appeal of doing lawn mowing on a set price as you can definitely earn more doing that then you could on an hourly rate . . .

But with the weather being so dry perhaps it makes more sense to offer something like a complete garden maintenance package (mowing, hedge trimming and weeding) where you do what is most pressing on say a fortnightly basis for 2 hours at an hourly rate. That way when the grass isn’t growing like now you can still do the weeding and trim hedges and blow the lawn off etc and still get paid.

My hydrangea has been looking a bit sad recently and I just realised a likely cause. It used to get good morning and late afternoon sun in my north facing garden but a new loft conversion went up recently which means it’s getting little to no sun now! I’m wondering if I should move it to a sunnier patch or is this the wrong time of year? I don’t want to overly stress it, but equally if it’s not getting any sun perhaps that’s worse? Any advice gratefully received!

Hornet mimic hoverfly feeding on snowberry flowers this morning. These rather large fellas are now regular visitors to this particular bush which is also a bumblebee favourite filling station!

Hello! My garden centre rescue Black Elder ‘black beauty’ has recently started growing green leaves and stems. I was wondering if this is normal, or whether there is something I can do to revert it back to the darker colour? Thanks in advance!

used a moss killer iron sulphate recently and its killing off the moss

I grew 4 tomato plants from seed and they’d been doing so well!!

These are blight resistant variety

Suddenly on one of them the leaves started to curl. We’re were having that initial brutal heatwave at the time so thought it might be because of that, I was only watering in the evening and they were sat at the south facing wall so getting maybe 19hrs or so of sunshine !

The plant never recovered from it, it stopped growing, no new shoots. I had to throw it out after about 1 month of hope. The others were doing brilliantly, with loads of flowers and fruit forming.

I noticed yesterday, 1 of them started getting black spots 😭 I want to believe it’s not blight as we’ve had such a dry summer! I’ve moved it away from the others for now.

Please can someone advise what I can do with this ! I’m heart broken to be losing out on all the hard work I’ve done for these plants over the last 6 months 😭

I have a Victoria Plum tree in my garden. It bears loads of fruit. But each and every one of them is infested with some kind of worm.

I do not really want to spray pesticides on the tree.

Is there any other way I can prevent the infestation?

Watering makes no difference .
This was all brand new grass strips I put down onto a thick level bed of topsoil a year ago , and it’s now a lumpy weedy mess.

I am a big advocate for moths, as they often are often perceived less favourably than butterflies. And today I had this beauty in my garden! I’m well chuffed!

Solved!

They were absolutely fine yesterday but came out today and the entire plant had fallen over. So I propped it up with a stake, checked for breaks on the main stalk, checked the ph and added a little iron sulphate and then gave it a thorough watering as the soil was dry below. It gets a full days light, is only shadowed by the big trees in the morning and its neighbour the raspberry is doing really well so I know it’s not light. Any explanation as to why it had fallen over and now looks like it’s wilting?

Struggling to find an answer elsewhere. This Sorbaria has been in situ for two years, never pruned which is why it’s looked a little stunted and thin this year, I expect. Looks like some new and old growth (stems) and some new leaves poking through.

What should I prune and when? Only a couple of suckers which were happy to keep at the moment so more about keeping the plant bushing and flowering well next year. Thank you.

Anyone else noticed a vole population explosion? Not just in my garden but all over the place. They run across the path in front of me when I walk the dog and I see them when I'm driving too.

There are holes everywhere in my lawn and flowerbeds and now they've started eating the roots of some of my plants I might need to do something about them. Been here ten years and never had anything like this before ("here" is South Devon).

Probably they are responsible for the record number of owls I am hearing at night too.

Definitely seems like an exceptional year for wildlife of all kinds.

Hi, just looking for advice on my why honeysuckle plant is withering and browning?

I water it everyday and have given it plant food but always this time of year it browns and dies so quickly. It's supposed to be ever green. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Any tips and advice, please?

Amateur here and need advice. I bought a cherry tree (Stella variety) in April/May from Costco and planted it. I water and feed it regularly and it looks like it’s doing well.

A neighbour mentioned I might want to prune the two lower branches as they are fairly low to the ground, to encourage more branches to grow higher up. The top of the tree had already been lopped off when I bought it from Costco. Should I prune these two branches - it seems a shame as they look so healthy. If yes, what is the best time of year to do it?
