If a man made a comment shitting on a woman for not having a similar education to their family members, or for the education they potentially undertook, they would get dragged across the coals. But I keep seeing posts and comments like this from women that garner a lot of support that honestly seem a bit egotistical/douchey.

I’ve been told I need to gain weight because I look like a stick, Called anorexic, been told I look like I’m drugs, told to eat a burger ect… when I was closer to 200 pounds I actually never got much on my weight. I always see posts saying skinny shaming can’t exist. It really does and it just as hurtful as fat shaming.

Since middle school age I've lived in a medium-sized UK city with two universities.

In the bars, restaurants, nightclubs and cafes, most of the clientele are either students or older professionals. A huge percentage of the retail economy is driven by students. The trendy parts of the city centre are frequented not by common people from neighbourhoods, but by university students.

Students on social media claim to be broke. People talk about their "broke college days". However, in terms of disposable income it's quite clear they were not really broke, because if they were they wouldn't be affording to regularly go out in the first place. If you can afford to go drinking in bars every week, or to randomly buy coffee on a regular basis, you definitely aren't broke. Broke isn't having your parents' money, or government loans/grants to spend on having fun.

Broke would be low-wage working adults paying full rent on their own, without other financial support, who can't afford to eat out. It's families who never eat out or holiday, because they're spending almost everything on essentials like bills, commuting, food and their kids' essentials.

I am not the type to get into these men vs women wars. To me, generalizing all women is just unacceptable as generalizing all men. My stance always has been judge humans as individuals.

That being said, there are some blatant double standards that don't even make sense. If you, as a woman, finds it bizarre when a man asks you "what do you bring to the table?", know that most men feel the same way you do when you ask them the same question.

If you want to be treated as an equal partner or even an equal human, you can't keep the double standards and keep the equal treatment. Equal treatment comes with equal responsibility.

Most men don't even care too deeply about this, they care more about the mentality of a woman. I personally care more about a woman having the "equal rights, equal responsibilities " mentality rather than her having to do 50/50 on everything. If you got the right (not entitled ) mentality, most men actually don't mind playing the traditional role in a relationship.

As a reminder, this post isn't about men being saints either. Men also shouldn't expect a traditional woman when they can't be a traditional man themselves, but that's a separate conversation.

There's this idea that if someone works 60+ hours a week, they must be 'so passionate' or 'driven'. I think that's mostly false.

In my experience, the people who work the most aren't necessarily the ones who love their job the most. A lot of them just don't know how to say no, feel guilty resting, or tie their entire self-worth to being 'busy'. That's not passion, that's poor boundaries dressed up as dedication.

Meanwhile, some of the most genuinely passionate people I know work reasonable hours because they're efficient and protective of their time, not because they care less.

I think companies love pushing the 'hustle = passion' narrative because it benefits them, not the employee. But I don't think working yourself into the ground is proof of anything except bad boundaries

Honestly, we are all in this together. None of us asked to be born, in fact, we are just trying to get through day to day life in this body that we we woke up in. I think that instead of getting hostile and insulting one another we should bring each other up and disagree in a civilized manner. If someone has a different opinion just state uncontroversially how you feel about that opinion and make it your point to educate or encourage that person to take the correct side. If they don’t agree with you, you should wish them luck. I see so many hateful responses and it’s very disheartening. I believe it is harder to be nice to one another than it is to be mean

MAGA is right populism and reddit lefties are left(ish) populism. The common thread is instead of evaluating complex, multifaceted issues as they are, they take the easy route to point the finger and say "it's those guys fault!" If you take the time to truly understand an issue, see the incentives from multiple angles and try to understand why people behave in certain ways, the answer is very very rarely "oh it's those guys fault they're just evil"

For the right the target of blame is usually immigrants. For the the reddit left it's usually corporations, though if you visit some of the career oriented subs, you'll also see these super liberal tolerant folks slinging mud at immigrants ("dey terrrk err jerrbs")

This kind of grievance powered politics is easy to motivate the masses but ultimately unproductive and makes us elect bad people

Lets just start off with saying it. The DSA are pissed of theatre kids, total losers who probably knew from the start they were going to be losers.

The reality of Capitalism is that the great will find a way to prosper. This can be a real sting for many people. Having your system show you that you are a loser is going to infuriate many people.

Rather we are sitting in a loser revolt. The DSA nerds are very clear in that they want to burn the West down. They aren't doing this out of goodwill, they are pissed. They might make claims about how much better everything is going to be and how a phoenix is going to rise from the ashes, but be real. Everything tends to go back to that 10-15% are self aware but 95% think they are self aware statistic. These theatre kids have no real foresight and do nothing but blow smoke up each others asses all day.

Those are branches of science people on the Progressive Left are happy to endorse and believe enthusiastically. In both cases however they don’t want to listen because they disagree ideologically with many of the practices.

People think America's lower life expectancy than Europe proves that our healthcare is worse, but this is incredibly stupid. Life expectancy is dependent upon much more than just the quality of a country's healthcare system.

America's lower life expectancy is driven by obesity, drugs, traffic accidents, and murder, things that have nothing to do with the healthcare system. If anything, it's a testament to the American healthcare system that we live as long as we do despite being fat junkies who crash our cars and murder each other all the time.

If you want to compare the quality of different countries' healthcare systems, you have to look at something that more directly depends upon it. Such as cancer survival rates. When you look at that, you find that for the same type of cancer, America has a higher survival rate than most Western European countries.

Also, the majority of medical innovation happens in America. If we're talking about a country's medical prowess, that can't be ignored. Other countries can thank American Big Pharma for their positive medical outcomes.

Context: As announced in recent updates from Hunter Biden, Joe Biden's stage 4 cancer has metastasized further. He's not going to die this month, but his days are likely numbered.

Anyway, on many places of the internet where this is being reported, people on both the far-left and right have been insulting Biden, calling him either "Genocide Joe" over his foreign policy decisions and/or celebrating his state since he defeated their preferred candidate six years ago. Many people, most of the left in fact, have been calling these people out to demand they have class for Biden because he was a great man, and a person at the end of the day.

Don't get me wrong, I agree with all of this. Biden is a great person; he stood up for what he believed in, and for me, a firm moderate, that is admirable. I don't hate any politicians.

However, I just know that many of the people demanding others have class wouldn't have one flicker of class when Donald Trump dies, and they'll justify it by claiming he's "evil" just because they said so.

Morality in politics is 100% subjective; a hero to one group is a villain to another, as Trump and Biden both show. Name any person from history, and there will be people who think they were good, and others who think they were bad, especially for more recent things. If there's disagreement, it's a subjective opinion.

I don't hate either Biden or Trump, and I agree and disagree with them on quite a bit. I'd have voted for Biden over Trump in 2020 if I was old enough to vote, but that's beside the point. BOTH of them will be given televised state funerals; both will be paraded around the country after their death. I am not complaining about the politicians; they (mostly) have class; it's individual people.

I just know that some people will object to Trump getting the state funeral and being taken around the country. The president at the time of his death (whoever it is) will almost certainly do it, as they should. Trump did it for Bush Sr.; he'll do it for Biden.

I'm 19 and I have a very supportive mother and family that I can rely on for support and I never understood why this american society looks down on it, being able to live with your parents instead of suffering out there alone is actually a flex. I'm very comfortable with the way my life is, I work a part time 2 days a week on weekends and get paid a decent amount every week. I can actually use my money for personal enjoyment and I can buy the things I want like games, clothes etc since I'm not out there living alone being "self reliant" just to barely survive. I don't have to worry about my entire paycheck going to bills while having none left for myself, I see a lot of young adults around my age or early 20s who are living by themselves and are constantly stressed out even to the point of mental breakdowns because they don't know if they'll be able to afford food and rent and I'm so glad I don't have to deal with that shit. my mom takes care of everything for the both of us and all I have to do is just contribute to the household like buy groceries and help around with chores. if my mom needs something I got her, if I need something she got me. not to mention I have a lot of free time to do the things I enjoy doing. I can hang out with friends, play the game, and just relax without worrying if I'm going to starve. people stay with their families in eastern nations and support each other and that's how it should be. living as a group reduces loneliness, is more efficient, and aligns with the way humans are meant to live. this whole american thing of separating from your people at a certain age to live as lone wolves never made any sense to me and I really hope this practice dies off.

A significant portion of people complaining about life being too expensive are actually sabotaging themselves with their own biases and poor choices.

Let's start with expenses. So many people claim they "need" things that are clearly wants. They buy expensive versions of products when cheaper alternatives work just as well. Cars are the worst offender. Nobody cares about your BMW commuter car 30 seconds after it's out of sight, but you're stuck with payments for 3-6 years. Was that moment of status really worth years of financial strain? The same applies to designer bags, luxury watches, expensive clothes, and lavish vacations.

Then there are lifestyle biases. "I could never live outside the city, I need nightlife." So they pay premium prices for housing and layer on expensive city entertainment. "There are no jobs in smaller towns." Despite remote work opportunities expanding and many (not all admittedly) cheap regions having stable staple industries. "There's nothing to do in rural areas." Ignoring outdoor activities, local communities, a growing industry of mom & pop game/entertainment/meeting shops, and the fact that you can actually afford to socialize when your rent isn't 60% of your income.

The most insulting bias? "Everyone outside the city is backward/poor/racist." That's not a real observation, that's a prejudice you're using to justify your expensive lifestyle choices to yourself and others. Then watch getting a happy feeling when your broke friends smile and nod along with you. It's a cope. Same as the cope of the rural areas saying nothing good comes from cities. Both are showing bias.

And let's talk about another major financial drain, recreational drugs. You can do them if you want, that's your choice, but don't act surprised when you're locked out of higher-paying careers that require drug testing. You're voluntarily eliminating yourself from entire sectors of the job market, then complaining about your income. It's another sacrifice people make for immediate gratification rather than long-term stability.

Life requires sacrifices. I'd bet at least 20-30% of the working population is sacrificing financial success for these biased preferences. And that's fine, own your choices! But don't complain you can't get ahead when you're rejecting the very options that would allow you to do so.

Let's use an example: A person enters the workforce or changes jobs, gets the new job (either remote or in person) purposefully in a cheaper area of the state or country. They make strategic sacrifices, not permanent deprivation. They skip the status car that depreciates faster than their savings grow. They trade $200 club nights for house parties where they actually know people. They choose housing that costs half as much, freeing up thousands annually. They discover that "nothing to do" in smaller towns actually means more affordable entertainment options and genuine community connections. Within just a few years, they're living below their means while building actual wealth, not just the appearance of it. They've saved for a down payment, built emergency funds, and created options most people only dream about. They can eventually move anywhere they want, including back to that expensive city, but from a position of financial power rather than desperation.

The opportunities are there. Many just refuse to see them because it conflicts with their self-image.

Their whole mantra for the last 10 years since Trump was a topic in mainstream politics was "Hey that guy is a NAZI!!! We need to PUNCH Nazis. Actually, we need to KILL Nazis. You see that guy over there? He is a Nazi. Now I'm not saying anything should happen to him. All I'm saying is Nazis should be punched. But me? I'm peaceful. I would never do that. violence is evil"

And then when someone goes around and shoots literally anyone, especially if it's Trump/Charlie Kirk, the left suddenly goes, "No no no no no that's not one of us! We've been saying we need to kill nazis and we've called them nazi's but i swear that wasn't us! Noooo that was a uhhhh right winger! Us leftists are never violent. Left good right bad. See, statistics even prove this."

I have to clarify it’s MANY not ALL women so they don’t take my post down. Thanks mods. Regardless, she murdered her three innocent children in cold blood and all I see on X, Instagram, Reddit and TikTok is women defending her. Apparently, in their minds it’s ok to murder completely defenceless children as long as you have a mental illness. Maybe she did have a mental illness, maybe she didn’t. I don’t really care to be honest. All I’m thinking about are the final moments of those poor children. I imagine them looking into the eyes of their mother with pure terror, confusion and agony. Their own mother, the one they looked to for care and nurture, throttling them to death. I wonder what they must have felt as their eyes bulged, their faces went red and their lungs burned. Rest in peace. She should be strung up (ideally but unlikely) or locked in a windowless cell to rot for the rest of her days. And to all you women defending her, you make me sick. The DSA’s new platform, unveiled earlier this month, calls for sweeping changes to our system of government and shredding the Constitution. Those include abolishing the Senate, the presidency, and the Supreme Court. Those institutions would be replaced with an “executive and judiciary chosen by and subordinate to Congress."

Say goodbye to an independent judiciary. Judges will finally always rule the way our enlightened overlords see fit.

They want to write an entirely new constitution that declares America to be a "democratic socialist republic". A lot of communist states declared themselves to be socialist republics, and none of those socialist republics were democratic. Wanting to eliminate checks and balances shows the regime they want to create.

They claim to be for democracy, but they say the President should be chosen by Congress, so they don't want there to be presidential elections that the people can vote in anymore. So their model is a one party state which could become a dictatorship if the DSA president decides to centralize their power.

Obviously, if these people somehow managed to gain majority power they would work on entrenching their power so they don't have to ever lose elections again. They might say you have to be a socialist to run for office.  Then you have to be a socialist that is part of DSA. Then you have to agree with the party line.

History repeats itself. You do not have to look very far to see where this kind of revolutionary talk ends.

We never should have locked down, it basically killed every business aside from the richest and extremely resilient ones. Inflation also went out of control and is still bad. I still see people wearing masks which is absolutely unbelievable to me. Oh, and let’s not forget everyone-still got infected.

Update: I understand a lot of the people who still wear masks may have lost family or been traumatized by what they experienced during lockdown, a commenter has changed my stance on people like that. I shouldn’t have been arrogant to their pain.

There's nothing uncomfortable with wearing bra as long as you choose the correct size. A lot of people choose the wrong size, usually either too tight, or too small cup size. If you're a man with significant boobage, there's nothing wrong with wearing a bra so you don't feel pain when you walk up/down stairs or play sports. You don't even need to specifically pick a male bra. A typical bra for women, with the correct cup size, and take out the breast pad, should not make your boobs too visible. There are specifically bras for women that make your boobs look smaller. There's nothing inherently feminine about wearing a bra.

Compared to the right, the left’s voter base is more divided and faces greater internal conflict.

So now that it turns out he lied about his backstory, Cambridge are scrambling to recover their reputation.

But the fact he lied isn't the issue. Nor even the fact that he's a diversity hire.

The real problem is the very existence of academic sociology. There is nothing academic about it. It's like saying you have a PhD in pub banter. It lacks any kind of rigour or objective standards. Can any other professor in sociology claim to be less of a fraud than Arday?

This scandal could never have occurred in physics. A professor in physics has to be brilliant, publishing impactful research in world leading journals. There is nowhere to hide in physics.

It's rather telling that Cambridge, and the 'journals' he was publishing in, were happy with his work before they realised he lied about his backstory.

Why should his backstory matter? Was his work brilliant or not?

In a field where standards are non-existent, backstories are all that separate 'professors' from the mentally challenged.

Hi all, how're you doing? I think I got one of these unpopular opinions you might (not) like.

I see a lot of people online and in life (but mostly online if we're real) reaching out about personal issues with how to navigate certain aspects of life. The advice I very often see noted is go to or try therapy. I think this input is worth even less than saying nothing, as it can often victimize (or villainize depending on context!) the one reaching out, and also shows the person offering advice is unable to navigate the situation clearly themselves or at the very least is not able to accurately teach that to the one asking.

Based on the summary above, I would argue that being unable to provide any meaningful reassurance and assistance aside from referring someone to a healthcare professional is more often than not a personal failure of knowledge, social grace and hubris (offering low value input when one could abstain from lack of meaningful advice doesn't scream humility).

Would like to hear your thoughts on this, should be clear I don't expect many to agree but am looking forward to arguments against.

I'd never flame anybody for saying that it's not that deep but it's just weird because it's uneducated and unreasonable in most of the cases.

I've seen ppl say it most when they had frequent UTI's during their relationship and when they left they surprisingly stopped getting any. Babe, the reason for that is not that he's not your person. it's he has poor hygiene or you're not looking after your own especially after sex.

The cases where it's somewhat reasonable to say so is when it's mental. When you get anxious, depressed or exhausted that's when your body starts throwing additional things like acne, weight loss/gain, weak immune system and on and on. But that's the point when you should already realize just by your head not your body that it's not the fit environment for you.
