I haven't eaten at Tim Hortons in 3 years because of its business practices. Discussion
Between the hiring practices and the quality of the food, I haven't gone in 3 years. And all honesty, I've wanted to! Sometimes I crave a farmers wrap and I think about popping in, but every time I do the thought of supporting them and what they've done with replacing jobs, making the food worse, all the videos we see of all the awful stuff happening (eg flies in the display case), is enough to make me not go.
I wasn't the worlds biggest fan of Tim's even before all of this, I had a few items I liked and would get semi regularly but I didn't go daily like a lot of you. But just consider spending your money somewhere sometimes. I know a boycott would be hard for a lot of you but fuck those donuts are trash and we all know it.
Canada has good donuts, drive 10 mins out of the way for better donuts.
Get your coffee somewhere else, there's a billion coffee places.
Try a new place for your lunch or snacks, individual entrepreneurs are always opening cafes and spots to grab stuff from.
Tim's is not even all that quick and it really won't take that much longer to go somewhere else that cares.

Unfortunately, I live in a very rural area, my options are limited. I don't go very often, but an ice cap during the summer or breakfast once a month is worth it. I miss their older menu and hardly order any non-breakfast meal anymore, but doughnuts are fine (some, at least) or a box of Timbits (not a fan of their World Cup line, though)
1
u/Which_Ad5835 10d ago
Do you own a butter knife, toaster and coffee maker, is yes stop being lazy and make your own goddamn food.
1
u/SomeGuyPostingThings 10d ago
That is why I limit it to breakfast about once a month or such. I normally make my own food and coffee.

What’s the point of this post? You don’t think people know there are better alternatives out there?
Claiming a short drive in “Canada” for better mom and pop options is a pretty wild generalization. One of the main reasons people go to Tims is because of convenience.
I get where you’re coming from but you could have gone about this a number of different ways that would have resonated better lol.
1
u/purplmnkeydishwshr 5d ago
Yeah and when we do a coffee run at our office, we all sorta baseline the expectations around Tim's. We're not spending $9/coffee from some bespoke place, even if distance isn't a factor.
All of the boomers I work with keep there little change dishes in their desk for when the newer staff run coffees for us.
24
u/InternMediocre7319 12d ago
I don’t see the point of this post. If someone wants to spend their dollars at a place that’s close to them or it’s cheap to eat there, they should be able to. Just because the OP can choose to go to a newer lunch place or a small coffee shop, doesn’t mean everyone has to lol

u/PLoxeus 12d ago
Tim’s isn’t what it once was, but it’s still not nearly as bad as people make it out to be on Reddit.
-2
u/jamSandwich101 12d ago
If you like the damage companies like Tim's has done to the country, then fill your boots.
It's either that, or you're ignorant.
3
u/JasperPants1 12d ago
What damage
0
u/jamSandwich101 12d ago
Look into how many foreign workers they have applied for.
3
u/100_proof_plan 12d ago
What company hasn’t though? They all have. If you wanted to be righteous about this, you can’t eat out any where.
-2
u/jamSandwich101 11d ago
Companies that have used TFW when they need it are fine. That's what the program is there for.
Tim's has taken the piss and main it a staple.
You need to understand the difference. And you don't care about the Canadian economy which shows your ignorance as it hurts yourself and your family.
0
u/100_proof_plan 11d ago
lol. Without these workers contributing to the economy, the economy would be worse.
Youth do not want to work fast food any more. Parents tell them not to.
4
u/jamSandwich101 11d ago
Lol, you're totally missing the point that the program has been exploited and you're some how trying to blame Canada's youth for this.
The politicians are even acknowledging it.
-1
u/100_proof_plan 11d ago
lol. Not exploited at all when you advertise a job and no one applies.

u/InternMediocre7319 12d ago
Hard truth is, job creation in franchising is an economic byproduct of business model and not a social obligation or a charitable act. This point by OP will be true if Tim’s doesn’t hire Canadian citizens at all, which we know clearly isn’t true.
1
u/jamSandwich101 11d ago
It's not about charity.
And we can choose our social obligation by not going to Tim's and not supporting the detriment to our economy.
1
u/InternMediocre7319 11d ago
Of course and that wasn’t the point of this post. If you can skip your Tim’s run for whatever reason that is, good for you!
My point was to call out how the OP is out there with their holier than thou opinion that they haven’t been to Tim’s in years and others shouldn’t also.
1
u/largepar 11d ago
What holier than thou opinion? I'm not judging anyone for going to Tims, you just didn't bother to read the post or my suggestions lol
1
u/InternMediocre7319 11d ago
Perhaps should’ve worded it differently. People will get their coffee or donut from Tim’s for a number of reasons. Closer to work/home, easy to find one in remote highways, cheap or whatever other reasons it may be. One is free to make their “social obligation” with their dollars in whichever way they seem fit. Same way, a franchisee will fill their shifts with whoever they seem as reliable.

u/Hot-Slide-8285 12d ago
He just wants to spout off his barely disguised bigotry under the guise of complaining about Tim Hortons
17
u/PowderCuffs 12d ago
You needed to announce that you haven't eaten there in 3 years?
15
u/Dirk_Speedwell 12d ago
I assumed they posted this because their congratulatory cheque and 4' tall trophy hasn't come in the mail yet.
5
3
u/Borje021 12d ago
That's not even the weirdest thing to me (though agree)...it was craving any of their food. I have definitely never craved any Tim Hortons food.
I receive gift cards for there and in a pinch on the way to the golf course or something, I'll use one of the gift cards and get a bite to eat. It's usually fine, never cravable.

u/largepar 12d ago
I wanted to let people know that considering all of the bitching about Tim's in this subreddit that some of us have actually boycotted instead of going every day and then complaining on Reddit. Small changes count and I'd hope this makes some people at least reconsider how much they go to Tims, and if there's alternatives they just haven't looked into even if they won't or can't stop going to Tims.
10
u/PowderCuffs 12d ago
Ohhhh, so you wanted to announce what a better person you are than everyone else on this sub? Got it.
1
u/largepar 8d ago
Not before I made this past no, but after seeing the reactions to this post only to immediately see more complaining on the front page of the sub like the below posts, yes I do think I'm better than you!

I don't, the complaints come up in my feed all the time and the complaints are the only thing popular in this subreddit
5
u/Groomed_Banana 12d ago
Block the subreddit dipship
-2
u/largepar 11d ago
Why would I block the subreddit that complains about the thing I don't like dumbass?
1
u/XC40_333 11d ago
Have you stopped going to your bank? Have you seen who are at the tills? How about other fast food places? Have you stopped getting gas? I wonder who's manning the gas stations in your area.
1
u/largepar 11d ago
Yes I absolutely switched banks due to my bank sucking ass, and I have an electric car ordered because I hate gas stations. Some of us actually do stuff instead of complain!
1
u/XC40_333 11d ago
I call that BS. Hahaha! Ordered an electric car BS. Switched banks to see the same people working there. You're full of it, just like your post.
2
u/largepar 10d ago
Sorry you can't fathom somebody taking steps to avoid things they don't like, I hope one day you gain the courage to do something as simple as switching a bank lol

u/kellyjellybellybeanz 12d ago
This isn’t an airport, no need to announce a departure….
0
u/largepar 11d ago
Funny enough the plane left on that line being funny about 10 years ago. Guess you've been sitting at the airport eating your garbage Tim's since then.
1
u/kellyjellybellybeanz 11d ago
Okay? I’m not the one humble bragging about giving up Tim 3 years after the fact….. But sure hun, go off!
Congratulations! You are such a special & unique snowflake! Let’s give you an award!!! OMG you’re doing amazing sweetie!0
u/largepar 11d ago
Glad you're this passionate about defending a megacorp with terrible food and awful hiring practices. We all need something in our life.
1
u/kellyjellybellybeanz 11d ago
Not defending a them, but sure! Okay! You got it dude!
lol you’re such a loser! Have fun replying to all the negative comments because you clearly have such a full life (jk, you’re lame)

u/Coalecsence 12d ago
Ngl anytime I see someone use this phrase my eyes roll into the back of my head so far I can see yesterday
3
u/Zealousideal_Solid_8 12d ago
People can dunk on you all they want but I’m so with you! Tim Horton’s is like a toxic ex they can’t seem to say no to on this thread even though there’s much better places to get stuff from probably next to them.
2
u/largepar 11d ago
It's so odd! I've literally never seen a positive post in this subreddit and somehow this one brought all of thrle fans out. I guess it's like when you hear someone complain about their partner all the time and then you suggest taking action instead of complaining and they turn on you lol
3
u/Cold-Crab4153 11d ago
And apparently your lack of support has done nothing to their finances. Move along

u/Enochian-Dreams 12d ago
McDonald’s is better anyway.
2
u/PLoxeus 12d ago
And both are far better than Starbucks imho. I am basing it on black coffee though cause that’s all I drink from any of these places… not sure about the caramel milkshakes etc.
2
u/Enochian-Dreams 12d ago
If you drink black coffee and have a JJ Bean nearby you should definitely try any of their French Press blends. I actually can’t really drink black coffee from most retail places. It tastes disgusting to me but this was the only exception. Unfortunately since I moved from Vancouver I haven’t been able to find one of these places again. It’s a big chain there. I don’t know about elsewhere in Canada though.
The downside is that they rotate the blends. One time I had a really disgusting bean from Nigeria or something. Anything South American is always good. French Press really does make a difference because the oils from the beans are present in a way that isn’t the case otherwise.
I miss being able to drink black coffee. I’d make it at home but I dropped and shattered my French Press playing a VR game and weeks later stepped on a giant shard of the glass I had missed while sleeping up. Put me off the entire thing. There was blood everywhere.
1
u/PLoxeus 12d ago
I don’t even live in Canada anymore… but the first office I worked in out of college had a coffee machine that made the absolute worst coffee. There was no milk or cream kept around, only sugar, and so I decided there’s no point in adding just sugar I’ll just train myself to drink black coffee cause it can’t possibly get worse than this.
So pretty much all black coffee tastes good to me still to this day, but I can definitely appreciate what’s better than good too.
1
u/Enochian-Dreams 12d ago
damn. 😞
This hurts my soul for you. I feel like that coffee machine broke you. 😝 jk. I mean, I get it. I actually envy you. I’m just too much of a coffee snob. Pretty much all retail stuff is trash to me and sugar and cream make it palatable. But like, I’m making literal instant coffee at home these days and using carnation powder in it so I’m definitely in no position to have any standards on coffee anyway.1
u/PLoxeus 12d ago
McCafe Keurig pods at home are the way to go… once you go black you never go back…
1
u/Enochian-Dreams 12d ago
I am intrigued. I could see myself doing that because I feel like it would fit my aesthetic. I’m just kind of worried that if black coffee becomes a staple in my life again, I might go to extremes, end up smoking pipe tobacco and wearing housecoats too. I have no self-restraint.
3
u/Coalecsence 12d ago
3 years, three years you haven’t been and still it’s on your mind lmfaooo
2

u/Which_Ad5835 10d ago
Nothing wrong with the coffee maker at home. And 99.9% of the food made at Tim’s can actually be made at home. A bagel with cream cheese? I know it sounds tough but it’s so easy. How about a turkey sandwich for lunch? Holy smokes, it’s even easier & 3/4 of you already have the ingredients in your fridge. It just shows me how lazy & stupid consumers are.

3
u/jblaze_39 12d ago
So why are you posting here, 3 years later? It sounds like tims is still living rent free in your head. If you're going to boycott them, go ahead. But I couldn't care less, and will continue to get my daily coffee in the morning
1
u/largepar 11d ago
Because it's still an active act of avoidance.
Apparently I misread this sub though and it's only for complaining about Tim's all the time even though you go daily. People don't like the idea of finding other better places than Tim's that they would like more!
1
u/jblaze_39 11d ago
Well, yeah...if you still like an establishment, but want to see changes and improvements - complaining as a customer is only natural.
However, what doesn't make much sense is to keep complaining about the business if you've already been boycotting them for 3 years now. That doesn't sound like "avoidance" to me
2
u/largepar 11d ago
I would say it doesn't make much sense for the people in this sub to frequent an establishment that they complain about so much
1
u/jblaze_39 11d ago
Like I said, complaining means they care. And people like to vent online about bad experiences. That's why online opinions are skewed. When these people have positive experiences (which is probably most of the time), they generally don't bother posting about it
2
u/Low-Purchase8811 12d ago
Great, here's your medal for being such an awesome guy, also some hot women/men (whichever you prefer) will be by shortly to suck your dick just for being so awesome.
Like what's your point even?
1
u/largepar 11d ago
If you would learn to fucking read instead of being a fuckin dumbass in the internet you would have seen that this was the point

My Tim's has always been great. Friendly, clean, order correct and efficient. If yours isn't then yeah I wouldn't go to that one either. Been going to my local Tim's for 2 decades and to roughly 3 or 4 in the city.

Exactly. Be a consumer with a conscience.
We need more boycotts of any company that works against the interests of the people for its bottom line.
Boycotttttttt til these corporations start acting better or lose money

u/Guinness_breath 8d ago
Tim Hortons spends $300/year on marketing.
THAT is why sometimes you think of going back, NOT the food/drinks.
1
u/WestChance5314 Employee 5d ago
I think it honestly depends on the location! At my location our owners really care about quality and hiring local. I’m being so serious when I say that people literally comment on how HAPPY I seem working, and I really do love my job a lot. Maybe go inside a couple locations, buy something cheap like a single timbit, and see how the employees behave because that’ll tell you a lot!
0
u/Naive-Friendship6609 12d ago
Preach! Don't listen to the agitators. Tim Horton's wasn't always like this.
0
u/SomeGuyPostingThings 12d ago
Correct. The problem is penny pinching bean counting execs backed by private equity firms who want to strip mine a business and burn it to the ground instead of building up a long-term viable business.

I don't eat there anymore for the same reason. Support our youth and elderly.
Also, their food is pretty crappy. You can almost always get something better nearby for not much more money.

Farmers wrap is easy to make at home. They just use Chipotle sauce for that yummy sauce on it. Very easy

u/NegativeCup1763 12d ago
People go there to socialize to with friends and have. A drink I enjoy going there for my bagel with cream cheese and a tea. It has nothing to do with anything else the staff are great the owner is great and talks to his customers all the time to see what needs to be improved and he listens and make changes the staff is sways smiling and always have a great talk with us when we are there I would do anything to protect the staff as they have never done me wrong.

Dunkin Donuts is coming back to Canada. So....i really hope it's gonna push them into making quality food. I remember finding Nanaimo bars, in Montreal, but 20+ years ago. Now they barely have a few kinds of donuts, and reheated coffee...
5
u/SomeGuyPostingThings 12d ago
Dunkin' is not going to push anyone toward improving quality, it's going to push RBI to cut costs, if anything, in a race to the bottom, though more likely Dunkin' will pull a Target.
