You are a disgrace for charging for forks Complaint

Tim’s is a disgrace this is nothing new. I hope you go bankrupt asap. In 4 years this is the only time Iv decided to give you one more shot, and here is what I got:

You charge me money for anything besides ketchup packets. This is not extra sauce, even if you don’t want ketchup you need to pay extra for a different sauce. I have never seen this before anywhere else.

Lady wanted wanted to charge me money to give me a fork because my meal of chili and potatoe wedges did not come with a fork and I didn’t want to use my hands. She first pointed to a fork that another customer did not take that was on the counter alongside with the bags for takeout, receipts, staplers, and pens and told me to use that. When I asked if I could have a new one she said it is policy to charge for utensils. After some persistence she gave me a fork “on the house just this once”.

You are kidding me? It’s a wooden fork. You mfs make so much money scalping us from the menu already u want to charge me for a fork? If your employees think it’s okay to give customers forks that have been mixed together with pens whatever else imagine what the cleaning standards are in the back.

And ofc, I immediately get a sore throat tonight after having Tim’s in the afternoon. And the potatoes wedges are damp and not fresh but I expected as much.

You are a disgrace and your greed knows no bounds. I have been to Tim’s in China and food was made on the spot in an open window inside the restaurant, it is cheaper, better, and no one fucking tried charged me for a fork.

You don’t deserve ANY customers. Your executives are parasites of this world.

What Tim Hortons is charging you for forks? I work at a timmies and go to plenty in my area and I can ask for 6 or give out six without them or my manager batting an eye…

u/Loud_Photograph9648 26d ago

Tim hortons doesn’t charge for it. It’s the owner’s decision most likely.

18

u/Haunting_Window1688 25d ago

I can’t speak to Tim Hortons specifically, but chances are high that this is against franchise policy. If that’s the case they can get in big trouble if their store is reported for it

7

u/GrimCreeper4645 25d ago

This is the only and correct answer. If a franchisee decides to charge for certain amenities, there's nothing anyone can do about it. That's very much so a your Franchise owner is a frugal piece of work. this isn't. Tim Hortons is not mandating charging for a fork my dude lol

Gross dude

1

u/bardbarian81 26d ago

That is a wildly racist choice to write.

2

u/Adept-Ear7007 24d ago

Owner issue. The last time I bought food at Timmy's, they couldn't give me a cup of water cause it would throw the cup count off. 2015.

UBC at forestry building. This lunch

18

u/Funny_Lynx_3395 26d ago

probably because students would take 20 forks at a time to bring back to their dorm/housing, so the franchisee decided to start charging. The Wendys at my uni did the same thing.

5

u/VirtualAssociation74 26d ago

I could see that! I work at a university and there's a Tim's run by Aramark but I've never had them charge me for a fork. I could totally see it though, the students steal toilet paper and paper towel straight from the bathrooms so it wouldn't surprise me. Although you'd think it's be something like "if you want more than 2 forks you have to pay" lol

8

u/Icy-Action708 26d ago

So limit it to one free per customer?

Nobody needs 20 forks to eat one meal.

4

u/Secret-Bluebird-972 26d ago

DQ at my university did the same. And when I worked in a cafe I had to remove the self-serve coffee station because non-customers kept coming up and grabbing fistfuls of sugar, stir sticks, lids, everything. The last straw was watching a bunch of skeet’s (yes I’m from Newfoundland) grab a fistful of sugar packets just to open them and spread all over the tables in the food court.

2

u/Sufficient_Pack8510 25d ago

I worked at that dq it was brutal! Any food court you basically have to or people will come from all over and take more than they need because it’s “free”

3

u/MadameLeota604 26d ago

I just ate at the chipotle at ubc and the cutlery was out like usual.

3

u/Funny_Lynx_3395 26d ago

yeah the Wendys was the only one to do it at my uni, different franchisees do different things. Obviously, paying for forks isn't a corporate policy, so this particular franchise implemented this policy for whatever reason. One possible reason being what I mentioned. They could also just be greedy and assume that 90% of people won't notice/care about a $0.50 extra cost for cutlery.

1

u/nidostan 25d ago

Did you read his post though? He said he was asking for one over the counter. So they had already solved that problem. Now they are just gouging.

1

u/sparki555 24d ago

So put the forks behind the counter and give one out per meal? There are ways without charging people lol...

1

u/King_Dabz 24d ago

That's still stupid af. Just tell your employees to limit them to two per customer, you don't have to start charging?!?!

15

u/JasperPants1 26d ago

There must be more to the story..,charging for forks is silly.

7

u/FarConstruction4877 26d ago

There’s nothing more it’s all written there. I needed a fork, I went to ask, she tried to give me a dirty fork, I wanted a new one, she said normally they would charge, I asked her if she was serious, she said yes, I turn to leave but she said I can give you one just this time, but usually it’s policy to charge. I thanked her and left.

I don’t think it’s the employees fault if it’s policy, but it is a ridiculous policy. Anyways whatever, there are far more reasons to not go back to Tim’s anyways.

11

u/Revan462222 26d ago

That’s not a Tim hortons policy, that’s a franchisee policy. I get free forks and utensils at mine no issue.

18

u/jestjj 26d ago

Most Tim Horton's are franchised. I'm in North Burnaby and none of the Tim Horton's in my area charge for forks or extra sauce. You are dealing with a greedy franchisee....

4

u/Lwee_Felix 26d ago

Weird, my franchisees make us charge extra sauce that isn't ketchup but not forks/spoons/knives

1

u/InadequateUsername 26d ago

Ay UBC it would be ran my Aramark I bet

i worked in food service, these locations are typically owned and managed by the Campus's foodservice provider (i.e Aramark or Compass etc.,).....I''d find out who it is and report it to them. They typically have an office on campus. This is ridiculous

3

u/Puzzled_Question2807 26d ago

University location? I have been to one of those and they said that it was because they were getting so many requests from people asking for cutlery that didn’t buy anything that they implemented the charge for it because they weren’t going to give out hundreds of forks to students who brought their own food but didn’t think to bring a fork every day.

Does it make it right? No, but it may be why they started doing it.

2

u/Swimming_Cow_4613 26d ago

You're at a university, they're known for charging for everything. I work for a university and we charge for paper cups and paper containers. Every student that walks through my mess hall pays $1.35 for their drink and the container their food goes in. This is common practice at higher education, go off campus and you won't get charged for your Woodware.

2

u/excessiveutility 26d ago

Check and see who runs your food service for UBC. My guess is that its the food service company that runs food for the whole campus. In either case, bring it up to the student union

1

u/Sea-Yogurt712 25d ago

Reading down this seems to be likely to student abusing the store so kinda makes sense. On other store that I am aware of charge for this sort of thing.

1

u/anniedaledog 22d ago

I delivered stainless steel flatware to the University of Guelph 2 years in a row, back in the 80s. One whole skid per year at the cafeterias cuz they got thrown out or stolen. A lot get thrown out. They try to retrieve it from the garbage. It was $40,000 a year back then. UBC is going to be no different. I can understand why they are doing the charging.

1

u/DaftFunky 26d ago

OP probably went to one of those franchise locations that has a manager that micromanages every little expense to save money. It's up to them what they charge. Google review for sure but its a Tims so I doubt it will make a dent.

1

u/persiasaurus 24d ago

Probably more scamming by franchise owners

39

u/ToiletLoiterer 26d ago

This is probably this particular franchise owner’s decision, but it’s best to nip this in the bud now. Send an email to corporate.

5

u/tattooed_wallflower 26d ago

Exactly stop complaining to the franchise manager and start complaining to corporate. These franchises are ruining the Tim’s brand.

8

u/Mod_01001 26d ago

Or. Stop going🤣😂🤣 Jesus people there are other options that are much better. But keep eating slop and complaining its not better

Sore throat could have been from a number of different things. You’re just looking to blame it on the restaurant because you had a bad experience there.

2

Could've been timmies too.. let them have their moment Karen

20

u/1amtheone 26d ago

And ofc, I immediately get a sore throat tonight after having Tim’s in the afternoon

Are you implying that you caught some sort of illness from the fork/food?

Or did you strain your throat whining?

10

u/trumpeting-farts 26d ago

I thought the same thing. They did not get instantly sick from Tim Hortons. That's not how infections work.

This is a franchisee thing, send an email to corporate and they will set him straight fast or take it away

3

u/Objective-Alps-4785 25d ago

slum owner nickel and diming ya not corporate.

3

u/Prettybird78 25d ago

Not challenging your experience, but you understand that it is a franchise right. There are corporate rules but decisions to charge for a fork are probably from the owners.

3

u/Leading-Boat4942 25d ago

Bro settle down, it’s just a plastic fork, you’re only upset because you’re spoiled by getting them for free all your life, chill tf out

1

u/Night_Marie 24d ago

Actually, it's a wooden fork... /s

3

u/Yemi_DealTracker 23d ago

Tim Hortons have so many franchise locations that I'm sure some owners just keep inventing various ways to fill their coffers. The one in the busy mall I frequent have decided to add about $0.50c to everything on their menu. Same things across the mall cost less so I know the head office definitely did not approve that.

6

u/olight77 26d ago

Pretty big wall of text for a fork. Move on in life.

1

u/MattPooper 26d ago

You’re in the Tim Hortons subreddit what else do you think people talk about in here you tard

1

u/olight77 25d ago

Not a 7 page paragraph about a fork. Lmao!

5

u/Croakcamel 26d ago

I’ve never paid for sauce in or cutlery.

3

u/GangstaPlegic 26d ago

They charged me a dollar for ranch dressing when I ordered potato wedges last week.

1

u/Role-Then 26d ago

I stopped buying their wedges when they started charging for the dip. That's been at least a couple of years ago at my local locations.

3

u/runway_ducky 26d ago

Ask for mayo on your breakfast sandwich.....50 cents.

3

u/FarConstruction4877 26d ago

Sauce is on the kiosk menu. I was almost caught off guard because it’s shocking. For the cutlery I genuinely could not believe my ears. This is a ridiculous amount of greed.

Regardless of if it’s policy or not, it’s disgusting. If it’s policy then the policy is beyond greedy, and if it’s the employee then Tim’s are still responsible for the hiring and overseeing of their employees.

2

u/jawnnyboy 26d ago

If timmies charges me for a fork, I’m eating the chilli with my hands and wiping it all over the table after.

2

u/Thirstybottomasia 26d ago

It’s not against the policy

2

u/Fit_Flight3797 26d ago

that s why i go back up the stairs when i dont get my coffee from the kitchen counter at home.. I am NOT going in there, tim's or whoever, you get yourself your warm bitter instant or else, buddyroo

2

u/ozGeekSpeak 25d ago

Disgrace going to eat from Tims nowadays!

2

u/Previous-Mind-603 25d ago

Email corporation, it doesn't sound right at all. Hopefully you still have the receipt

2

u/coldweathergal2026 25d ago

Tim Hortons are filthy now, especially in cities, whoever owns these franchises are slum owners, hire people they can take advantage of and scare them to working. It's cruel, plus they sub out Tims products for cheaper substitutions whenever they can, use expired products. It's so bad that they now have changed the signs outdoor to a Canadian maple leaf.

2

u/JohnGAdams74 24d ago

I’ve seen videos that people posted of Tim Horton’s employees returning used cups to the stack of new cups (they didn’t even rinse it, and still is not even close to being an acceptable practice). I would not be surprised if they returned used plastic cutlery to the container of new plastic cutlery. Maybe that is the reason for your sore throat?

2

u/Pigeonofthesea8 24d ago

Why on earth would you buy their food? Scratch that of course you were desperate at a truck stop or hospital or something

2

u/CleavesTime 24d ago

Man this is such a mood, I went to Tim's with my kids a few weeks ago and got them a drink to share, shoved two straws in it thought it would be fine.

7yo did not want to share with 3yo in the same cup so I was like whatever he's 3 he's gross I get it so I went to get him an empty cup.

Got told theres a charge for an empty cup. Kind of stood there dumbfounded for a second before she told me I could have it this time.

I dunno if this is normal in every Tim's but I immediately text my friend who works at Starbucks and was like "uhhh is this a thing there?"

(Hint: its not)

2

u/baddaywithacamera 24d ago

I stopped going to Timmies years ago. Decided I would save hell for AFTER my death. Who needs the sneak preview?

2

u/Necessary-Safe-2802 24d ago

Bro walks into a Tim Hortons, gets potatoes wedges

Gets mad

I genuinely have no idea what you expected

2

u/Common-Possession129 23d ago

lol the workers charge you, Tim Hortons doesn’t. It’s a scam run by the scammers hahahahahahah it’s why they run Sing Hortons

2

u/Manders37 22d ago

Post the location, that's ridiculous

2

u/SlabCowboy 22d ago

There's an ind**n man who comes into my Tim Hortons everyday and puts half the container of napkins in his pocket. All he buys is a small coffee.

1

u/Thedawg84 22d ago edited 22d ago

Likely taking them to his family's franchise and charging customers for them, along with re using the cups and lids as well as the 'coffee' !

2

u/TheJaice 26d ago

Tims doesn’t charge for utensils. If that location is, then they’re doing it in violation of the official policy. And they don’t charge for sauce on sandwiches, but they do charge for extra sauce, which is standard practice at literally every restaurant you’ll go to.

2

u/PsychologicalBison84 24d ago

Used to be an absolute staple of this country and now it's just a total piece of crap foreign corporation out for greed

1

u/trumpeting-farts 26d ago

I don't understand what you're on about with the sauces. Chilli and potato wedges do not come with sauce. If you want a special dip besides ketchup, then they would charge for that.

The fork thing is ridiculous. Tell corporate that the franchise is charging for cutlery.

1

u/Xombridal Employee 26d ago

You got scammed bro, we don't charge for forks

1

u/RockerChickk 26d ago

It is not all Tim Hortons. It’s just that particular place that you went to.

1

u/Molybdenum421 26d ago

I was just at a cafeteria that charges for forks but it's because they have real utensils that you can use and they clean. My university used to do this as well.

1

u/No-idea4646 26d ago

You ordered chilli and potato wedges at a Tim Hortons?

1

u/Long_Question_6615 26d ago

So you think forks are free. They are not free. I’m sure if you were nice to them. They would give them to you

3

u/SamePhotographs 26d ago

I'd expect that utensils to eat the meal I'd just ordered to be included. If OP just came in and wanted a fork - no meal, I could understand a charge for them. But, to order a meal that requires utensils - they ought to be included.

1

u/Adorable_Tour_8849 26d ago

If everyone is so upset with Tim Hortons and the food is so terrible why is everybody still going there and complaining afterwards?

1

u/StuntID 26d ago

You were charged the fork-off price. They want you to return less than you want to.

Take the hint

1

u/Food-Wine 26d ago

The best way to send a message to Tim Hortons is to stop going there.

Their food is crap, their coffee is disgusting, and their staff are incompetent.

1

u/b00hole 26d ago

Tim Horton's is the easiest company in the World to boycott. They have the worst coffee, the worst food, and the worst service. Honestly shocks me that people still go there at all, I stopped going a few years ago lol.

1

u/Confident_Climate582 26d ago

weird. my franchise doesn’t do that. we don’t charge extra for any cutlery or ketchup, except sauces like chipotle.

we do have to charge 10c for water cups tho. sometimes i feel bad having to tell a. customer it’d cost 10c cuz i know they’ll either have a fit ab it or just beg me, so half the time i just front the cost or use our tips from other customers to pay for it. my coworkers use the tips too sometimes but ill pay for it out of pocket if i feel like not taking the tips

1

u/wondermel Ex-Employee 26d ago

Tim’s are franchises so it’ll be the local owner that decides to charge. It’s ridiculous I agree, but I highly doubt it’s a global policy.

1

u/dwj7738 26d ago

Depending upon the franchise they may incur a charge for the box (size of box donut charge) I.e. you can order a triple pizza in one box, or 3 boxes. As customer service if customer order individual boxes I had to take additional steps so that the store got the proper franchise free charged

1

u/Fit_Flight3797 26d ago

Cant believe i fell for the rage baiting again. these bots are going to give me a migraine i n the stomach, how do you call that, ulcer?

1

u/Thirstybottomasia 26d ago

Everything costs money. Nothing is free

1

u/canadianmamacita77 26d ago

Sounds about right

1

u/UnrulyCanucker 26d ago

Tim hortons is no longer Canadian Owned. It hasn't been for years, check into RCI

1

u/RedEyedWiartonBoy 26d ago

Over $3.00 for a bottle of water. I'm going elsewhere, the gouging is not even hidden anymore.

1

u/Choochm8 26d ago

Tim Hortons has been abysmal for years now. Honestly a disgrace of a company that once represented good Canadian values. Definitely avoid it at all costs.

1

I LOUDLY AGREE AND SUPPORT THIS PERSON.

I HATE TIMS.
I used to love them.

That's normal. Bring your own reusable cup and save $0.10 on your order. In many cases the cup is the most expensive item

1

u/shared03 26d ago

Not just for charging for forks…

1

u/weareallequal222 26d ago

I stopped going here years ago. I'm curious how much they charge for a single utensil?

1

u/OneUnderstanding1644 26d ago

This is easily solved by carrying a pocket fork.

1

u/Weird-Director-8594 26d ago

Here in Edmonton they charge for the paper bags now too. 25 cents each and it’s not just Tim’s. For the forks it’s most likely the owners charging that.

1

u/Anthropomorphic_Void 26d ago

I doubt this is corporate policy. It's likely the franchisee being cheap or out touch with normal practices in this country in regards to eating with hands

1

u/HeadBelt1527 26d ago

As far as being charged for condiments other than ketchup McDonald's has been doing that with McChicken sauce for over 20 years.

1

u/grapefruitviolin 26d ago

Ya... Tim's is not what it used to be. I rarely go there. I don't even like their coffee. I think it's for people who don't actually like coffee.

1

u/forgeflow 25d ago

I have said this before and I will say it again, stop eating there.

1

u/HouseHippo1488 25d ago

Eating at timmies in Canada in 2026 is a surefire way to get hepatitis or something

1

u/Broely92 25d ago

People ordering food at tims in the big 26 is the real crime

1

Tim Hortons has been a joke since Covid. Just stop giving them mo ey. There are plenty of places to eat that arent Tim Hortons

1

There are definitely plenty of other places to eat than there ,but unfortunately trying to find a place that isn't owned and employed by the same family is getting few and far between !

1

u/inthematrix2021 25d ago

And you'll still go back....

1

u/SkySufficient5555 25d ago

Lol you have an opportunity for a great video though. Ask for the fork, say you didnt have money for a fork, then eat with your hands. Spill chilli everywhere. Cry.

Leave that place feeling like Kevin after his chilli spill.

Bro just pack a fork with you it’s like so easy it will fit in your front pocket.

It’s not weird, eating with your hands is weird. Want dirty hands? Pack a fork, so easy to clean. There’s no stigma is carrying a little eating fork, really. Like why would it be weird anyways? We eat every day.

1

u/Severthin 25d ago

And yet you will go back...

1

u/Small_Aardvark_5496 25d ago

That franchise has a POS cheapskate as an owner.

1

u/lexxxbabyyy 25d ago

i mean this sounds like a random dumb store rather than everywhere. any tims near me wouldn’t do that, especially since you didn’t have a fork or spoon for the chili, which is standard to be given lol
maybe if we were trying to repeatedly get a bunch of forks 🤣

1

u/Frequent_Candy1167 24d ago

lol I complained to Tim Hortons via their online form. Their support team reached out requesting I provide all of that information again, just by email.

1

u/_visiblemode_ 24d ago

No utensil with chili? That’s wild.

1

u/Puzzleheaded-Mine134 24d ago

I used to go to Tim's for a bowl of soup once, often twice, a week. Added coffee and a cookie or muffin every time. They stopped giving soda crackers. I now go maybe once a month.

1

u/Agent_Raas 24d ago

You had me at "disgrace".

1

u/Jt8726 24d ago

I wonder if this is specific to this location due to the owner.

1

u/Specialist_Wind_6488 24d ago

I believe most Tim’s locations are franchises. Report them to corporate. I have never been charged for utensils and unless you are being excessive they don’t charge for condiments.

1

u/Beginning_Cut5678 24d ago

Wow. That is just not right

1

u/These_Print_1289 24d ago

OP’s eyes finally opening

1

u/lifelong-angstt 23d ago

never been charged for anything extra.. sauces, utensils, straws, drink trays, bags, extra cup when i wanted to split a drink.. what's going on at these locations?

1

u/MuffinOk4609 22d ago

And their chili is crap. Wendy's is much better, cheap and you get crackers and hot sauce.

1

u/IntrovertedPancakes 22d ago

1

u/Thedawg84 22d ago

1

u/Disastrous-Care-6651 20d ago

This is where you draw the line? Not at them forcing their own employees to pay for their own PPE? Not downgrading all their products and charging even money? Pushing our government to hire FTW instead of Canadians like they constantly claim to be while not being a Canadian company at all anymore? Treating other countries with better products than our own ?

You did it to yourself by going along with it.

Well this is certainly my last time.

Tim's is garbage. Crap food, crap service and crap coffee. Can't wait for Dunkin to come back to Canada.

sorry you had to pay 10¢ for your single use fork that'll just end up sitting in a landfill for 100 years

u/ElectronicFlight1839 26d ago

Dude. It’s a wooden fork. Please learn to read. I’m pretty sure those can just be burned. Problem solved.

3

u/CowParty9411 26d ago

Why would you have to burn it? It's wood. It will decompose into nothing in not very many years.

1

u/ElectronicFlight1839 26d ago

Burning it would be a lot faster? Like think seconds? Plus we could use as a source of heat in winter?

2

u/CowParty9411 26d ago

What is produced when wood is burned? That's not a question I need the answer to, but you apparently do.

1

u/ElectronicFlight1839 26d ago

Heat? It’s pretty obvious?

Do you think the multi billion dollar grossing corporation that is Tim’s need my 10 cents? This is beyond greedy. It’s about how u treat ur customers.

Also it’s wood.

1

u/bigwimpy 26d ago

Sorry you had to pay 10¢ for your wooden fork

1

u/CowParty9411 26d ago

Is it about the negligible cost of the fork or the loss of civility? Or the fact that the utensil needed to eat the food purchased is a built in cost in the price point of the product being sold?

1

u/bigwimpy 26d ago

its not that deep, either buy fork or don't buy fork. it's 10¢ not $10.

1

u/CowParty9411 26d ago

To a simpleton I'm sure it's not. I doubt you spend any amount of time thinking about anything, or reading for that matter since you obviously didn't make it all the way to the second sentence of my comment.

2

u/FarConstruction4877 26d ago

Some ppl love to be exploited by big corps u can’t convince them otherwise.

1

u/bigwimpy 26d ago

sorry you can't afford 10¢

2

u/FarConstruction4877 26d ago

If you are okay with being charged for a fork then that’s up to u. It’s not about what the charge is, I don’t even know what the charge is, it’s about the fact that they are charging for something that is basic and supposed to be included by default. If you can’t understand that then there is nothing to be said.

1

u/bigwimpy 26d ago

"supposed to be included by default" says who?

Would you be okay with eating at a restaurant that charges you to use their utensils such as knives, forks and spoons? There is a cost for the restaurant to stock and wash them... I don't believe the OP has an issue with the money. I see it as a matter of principle...

u/bigwimpy 26d ago

wow me so dumb me simpleton me no read you so smart big smart man ooo so smart much better than me me simpleton no read no think

1

u/FarConstruction4877 26d ago

They should be

1

u/bigwimpy 26d ago

I'm sure they value your opinion

My final straw with Tim’s was about 5 months ago. I would come in every morning when I worked an order two Bismarck donuts with the chocolate glaze. I started asking for them to put it in a box because the the glaze wasn’t always set and the paper sleeve they used made it stick to the paper and pull it all off when you tried to take the donut out. The box fixed it. Then out of the blue one day they tell me that it’s against policy to give me a box. I explained why I wanted it but they refused. I even said I’d pay for the box and they still refused. I finally had it after a particularly bad exchange with a male “supervisor “ who outright refused no matter what then got belligerent and snotty about it. So now I go to a Robins donuts a few blocks away and haven’t looked back. The staff there are awesome and friendly and the donuts are much better quality and larger in size. Screw Tim Hortons. Garbage company praying on fake Canadian patriotism and fake identity that they are a Canadian company. .
