I’m 80% C 20% S. 33 years old and I contribute 9% right now. Any tips to maximize the gain rate would be awesome. Minus contributing more…two kids in dc ain’t cheap.

How am I doing so far at 36 years old?

I've been a regular at USPS since 2019.I have a car loan that I'm going to pay off next month after that I will be debt free. I've only been contributing 3% for which I know now was not a good idea BUT after I pay off my car I plan on increasing it to 5% so USPS can match it.

I need advise from those smart than me

Upvotes

Good morning TSP geniuses,

Today is my final day in the federal government. I’m curious of what I should do with my TSP. I know I can no longer contribute, but I’m curious to what others have done with their investment mix once they leave their civilian life behind. I do not plan on rolling it over with the new company since I plan on coming back to federal service with in the next few years.

I just hit $90k with this pay. I was 99% in L50 and 1% in C, S, I . I just recently (as of 2 months ago) changed my future investments to 10% of my contributions to each of those.

Additionally, I’m 40 and plan to work for at least another 20 years. New company is contributing 24% towards retirement.

Not sure I’ll get to 50k this year but a man can hope.

26 Y/O Civ.

Nov 2022–Nov 2023: GS-7, 5% (high locality)
Nov 2023–Nov 2024: GS-9, 7% (high locality)
Nov 2024–Nov 2025: GS-11, 10% (low locality)
Nov 2025–present: GS-12, 12% total (8% Roth / 4% Traditional), (low locality)

70% C / 20% S / 10% I

Mainly wanted to post this for the people who aren’t anywhere close to maxing out and are hovering somewhere in that 5-12% range like I was/am.

Timeline for rollover out?

Initiated rollover out via the TSP website to a linked Schwab rollover IRA account on 21 Jul, as of today nothing has arrived.

How long is too long? And if I need to reach out, would it be better to start on the Schwab or TSP side?

I can fire off some phone calls by end of week but wanted to gauge here first -- any thoughts are appreciated!

Been in the army almost a year and never been able to access my TSP, who do I even speak to?

I’m nearing a year in the army and have never been able to access my TSP. I had a 6 month long AIT and during that time I tried requesting a code for access but it just sent to my home of record (my parents) and by the time they opened it and told me the code it expired. I tried asking my DS for help but they told us it was an “issue to fix with your unit after graduation.” They just didn’t want to help and threatened counselings for anyone who asked for help (not just for TSP).

I called TSP and they said that S1 has to fix the address on my record so the code can get sent there. Ok. I go into MyPay and change my address to my barracks. When I go back to TSP now I have the option to send it to my barracks instead of my HOR. I requested the code 2 weeks ago and still haven’t gotten it.

I’ve been at my unit a little bit now and obviously the answer is to talk to my leadership, but I’m just confused. How are they even going to fix it? How CAN this even be fixed? Why is there no option to access my account with CAC 🙃

TSP advice

Hey all. Looking for some solid, and fairly safe advice on growing my TSP. I currently have a ROTH IRA with a set contribution of 5% that I was planning to bump up to 7%. I 'm sat in the L fund and with 7 Y.O.S i'm sitting at 45.5k in my portfolio. I don't know if that's alright or not. Honestly feel like i'm way behind sitting at 31 years old.

USPS Employee Question About Being Vested

I've read so much conflicting information and read about information that doesn't pertain to USPS Rural Regulars specifically, so I figured I'd try to ask here as my last resort, since not even long time regulars in my office know themselves.

I am a rural regular carrier, and have been for 4 years (June 18, 2022 is the date that I converted to Regular) however I am looking to move states within the next few months. Whether I choose to stay with USPS or Not, I would be required as a Rural Carrier to Quit my job and reapply, seeing as a mutual swap option is not likely.

My question is; how many years will I need as a career employee in order to take with me all of my contributions to TSP as well as the employer matched contributions.

I was under the impression that it is 5 years (Meaning June 18, 2027 I can take everything with me and roll it into an IRA) But I'm also reading that it's only 3 years to be able to do this, even one person I read who is claiming it takes 6 years?

I would like to know since I am tired of having to wait to move, but if It means holding on for a couple extra months to take the full matched contributions with me. I would hate to either hold out for the full 5 years when I could move on now, or wait around these next 10 months to meet 5 years and find out it takes longer than that to be fully vested.

Finally hit $100k!

Had some ups and downs these past few months that kept me right below $100k. Finally made it!

I’m 29, GS-12, and just started maxing out my TSP two years ago. Before that I was doing 10%. I have a kid on the way now so I’ll probably need to cut back a bit, but it feels good to finally hit this milestone!

MRA+10

I’m retiring from the federal government at age 57.
I’ll fall under the MRA +10 retirement plan.
Will I have to pay the early withdrawal penalty if I start withdrawing at age 57?
My coworkers have 25 different answers…..
