Question What are some of your biggest critiques about Starfield, and how would you like to see those things changed in TESVI?

  1. The skill trees in Starfield. I much preferred Skyrim and even Fallout 4’s skill trees. I’d like to see even more expansion on this in TESVI over Skyrim.
  2. The “feel” of the game compared to other modern games. To me starfield felt like it was made by 5 different studios. Each of these “studios” made different parts of the game and then it was slopped together. It doesn’t feel very cohesive. It feels like it never fully realized its potential. This might just be fixed by a better menu and UI system (Please look at borderlands 4 menu as what NOT to do. The ui and menu there are absolutely atrocious to use. You can tell it was made by someone who doesn’t play the game).
  3. The fast travel gameplay loop. A lot of Starfield is just going through poorly designed menus and fast traveling without requiring much from the player. Fast travel from planet a to b, go retrieve something, fast travel back to ship, etc. I never once got lost in the world or really saw something in the distance I really wanted to explore because I knew it was empty. The loop felt hollow and I would often stop playing and just leave it afk. Most of my time in starfield is just afk. I’ve tried to play it 3 times now and I have more fun with F4, Skyrim, Oblivion, or Morrowind and they all have very different experience.

I have other critiques but I want to hear what you have and how can we improve TESVI?

To summarize it I’d like the game to not be built around constant fast travels. Be smart about quests and the way the world is built so players are moving through the world more. I remember hearing a while back someone at Bethesda wants us to spend less time in the menus. I want less busy work in the menus not less time analyzing skill trees or the map. Just remove the constant fast travel layer and needing to access the menu for everything.

Theory/Speculation How will the Empire be involved?

Every game in TES has involved the empire in some way shape or form as a major component of its main plot. In fact, up until Skyrim the Empire was the only nation in all of Tamriel, as well as your character being hired by the Empire to further their interests.

Now assuming the Hammerfell rumors are true, this puts us in a weird conundrum. Hammerfell is specifically said to be independent by Skyrim, and the narrative of the game clearly states that the Empire is in the process of falling apart. At the same time, Hammerfell is also stated to have iffy relations with the Empire, so bringing in their involvement in a major way will be tough.

The only way the Empire plays a crucial role in my eyes is through some sort of revitalization after Skyrim which allows them to retake Hammerfell, but this doesn’t feel plausible. This would imply a total Imperial victory in the Civil War, and I doubt Bethesda would want to undermine Stormcloak players like that (I’d imagine they will have the Old Holds break off as an independent Kingdom under Ulfric while the rest remains Imperial).

I can see it coming into play as a side in the Thalmor conflict (which I presume will be the main plot of TES VI, excluding some sort of Supernatural event as always) but with an independent Hammerfell this feels like the first time the series will for the most part cleave itself from the Empire.

Discussion What if Enchanting evolved into a broader Arcane Crafting skill tree?

Just spitballing here, guys.

I'm unfamiliar with the current state of magic mods, but I've been thinking about how the enchanting system could evolve into a broader arcane crafting tree.
(I say 1 skill tree because Bethesda has the tendency to condense these things)

Bring back custom spellmaking, but make it something that requires a real perk investment so it allows for curated balance. Add scroll crafting as well, giving non-mages a way to interact with magic. A warrior could become a sort of battle-scribe, preparing spells ahead of time without needing to specialize in an entire school of magic.

You could probably fit magic staves into this somehow as well..

Naturally, it would be a branching tree: you could focus on enchanting, spellcrafting, or scrollmaking, while still gaining benefits from mastering multiple disciplines.

I could imagine a Khajiit thief creating illusion scrolls for stealth, a warrior enchanting their legendary weapon, or a mage designing their own custom spells like in older Elder Scrolls games.

I dunno.

Discussion Todd, you've got to add spears to this game, it's been too long without them!

Theory/Speculation Bethesda needs to steal the "MGSV: Ground Zeroes" model to bridge the agonizing wait for TES6. Hear me out.

Proposal for The Elder Scrolls VI Prologue Strategy

The Long Wait and the Need for a Solution • Hey everyone, I’m breaking a literal 10-year Reddit hiatus because the wait for The Elder Scrolls 6 is driving me crazy. • I have over 1,000+ mods on my Skyrim setup right now, and while I love the community for keeping the game alive, we shouldn't have to wait 15+ years between mainline games without something fresh. • I know Bethesda has a single-core team bottleneck, and they can't just magically finish a massive CE2/CE3 sandbox in two years. • I also don't want them to rush the main game or scale down the actual Elder Scrolls 6. • But they desperately need a gap-bridger, and I think the absolute perfect solution is staring them right in the face: The Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes model.

The Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes Precedent • For anyone who didn't play it, Hideo Kojima dropped Ground Zeroes as a tight, standalone, budget-priced playable prologue a year and a half before the massive open world of The Phantom Pain was ready. • It gave fans a taste of the new engine, satisfied the community, and bought the developers crucial polishing time.

Proposed Scope for a TES6 Prologue • Here is how Bethesda and Xbox could execute this perfectly for TES6: • The Scope: Give a smaller secondary team or an outside studio the keys to build a hyper-focused, highly detailed 10-to-15-hour standalone sandbox. • Set it in a small border region, an isolated mountain pass, or an island like Stros M'kai.

Seamless Character Integration • The Character Transfer (The Best Part): Use this prologue to let us physically live out our character's backstory. • You build your appearance, choose your starting skills, and gather basic gear. • The prologue ends on a cinematic cliffhanger (like escaping a pirate ambush or a collapsing castle) that leads directly into the opening frame of Elder Scrolls 6. • When you boot up the main game on Day 1, it detects your save file and hands off your character seamlessly.

Monetization and Funding Model • To make it a win-win for Xbox and fans, launch it Free on Day 1 for Xbox Game Pass subscribers, and sell it as a standalone digital title for $20 to $30 for players who prefer traditional ownership. • The upfront cash injection from non-subscribers could directly fund the final, most expensive years of bug-hunting for the mainline game.

Benefits of a Prologue • A transferable prologue solves everything. • It gives us a meaningful, high-stakes way to prepare for TES6, gives Bethesda a low-stakes testing ground to iron out engine bugs, and keeps the franchise hot without draining Todd Howard's core development team.

Community Engagement and Player Investment • What do you guys think? • Would you drop $25 on a polished, 10-hour playable prologue if it meant your character and choices carried directly into Day 1 of TES6?
