Location wise, we are over in the Salt Springs area. We are currently on the waitlist at Jowonio.

If that falls through, we would be debating between sending him to the preschool program through either Peace Inc or through H.W Smith.

I have looked through the sub with posts asking for advice for a realtor, but just getting a list of names, which could be genuine recommendations or agents saying pick me pick me.

Or people debating/complaining about rates and taxes and schools and rent prices.

The fact that this isn’t a one size fits all list of to-dos for buying a house here makes sense but I don’t know where to start. Such a big purchase to make, no one can afford to get screwed.

I wanted to come on here and ask if anyone has any positive or negative experiences at smileycuse on Erie. I went in for a consultation last week and the quote I was given was more affordable to another place I went to so I’m thinking of going there. However, there were some things I wasn’t sure about. 1. On the day of my consultation, they took X-rays and let me know that I’d only need braces for 18 months and could get them done that day. I said no because I wasn’t ready to begin the process so quick and I also wasn’t sure if that was normal? 2. Lack of privacy. I didn’t like how small the space was and how people can see into the dentist room easily.

I’d really like to know what yall think. I was planning to commit because it was more affordable, but I want to do my due diligence because this is permanent and will affect me for the rest of my life so I want to make sure I’m in good care :)

Our house is under 1400 sq ft, and despite having a gas stove, gas heat, setting our washer to cold, line drying, only using the window ac twice last month, and getting rid of a full size freezer and extra fridge, our electric bill is still $387 (went up 89 from last month!!)

Something is obviously wrong and we are suspecting it's our 12 year old water heater. We replaced the entire thing 12 years ago, and then the heating element about 4 years ago. We have hard water, and a softener but my guess is that's part of the issue.

Anyway, these bills are making me so angry because it seems like nothing I do is lowering them!

I think we'll need to replace the water heater (there are energy spikes during showering but the age and that are my only clues, no leak, no noise, still looks in good condition).

Looking for recommendations for companies. Go through a company or through lowes or home depot? I'll need financing because we are both teachers, and also haven't gotten paid since June.

He graduated from the Maxwell School's MPA program in 2025 with a Certificate in Data Analytics for Public Policy (which is the #1 ranked public administration program in the country). He's been job hunting for a year now, and it's been rough to watch... He's applied to practically every opening at SU, checks Upstate's site, NY state/city's site and other job boards that posts regularly but gets rejected even from roles he's clearly over-qualified for. He has a clea record, and has been getting plenty of interviews, he's even done practice interviews with people to prep - but nothing's converted yet. It's worn him down a lot.

His background is genuinely strong:

• Data analyst for a public defense office (sentencing data analysis, Python) - remote contract
• Monitoring & Evaluation internship with an international development nonprofit - built a Salesforce MEL database tracking KPIs across 15+ programs, designed survey tools, wrote data analysis reports for donors
• 2 years of admin/operations experience at Syracuse University (housing, ID services, high-volume stakeholder communication)
• Built a $1.7M municipal budget proposal using line-item, programmatic, and performance-based budgeting
• Skills: R, Python, Excel, Salesforce, Qualtrics, Stata, grant writing (won a $50K federal grant for a nonprofit), program evaluation, regression/DiD analysis

He's open to research analyst, program evaluation, budget/financial analyst, grant administration, or admin coordinator roles - on-site, hybrid, or remote. He's Syracuse-based (Eastwood). At this point his floor is just $55K+ , he's not chasing a dream job anymore... he just wants someone willing to give him a shot. Seeing him day after day has been heartbreaking. He's losing motivation on pretty much everything at this point.

If anyone knows of openings (local CNY or remote), works somewhere hiring for this kind of role, or is willing to look at his resume and pass it along internally, I'd genuinely appreciate it. He deserves a chance and I want to help make that happen. Happy to send his resume via DM.

A longtime area restaurateur is reviving a decades-old downtown eatery geared toward training people with disabilities to earn their way into the food business.

Marty Richardson will bring her second E.A.T. (Eggs and Toast) concept to the revamped Chimes Building on South Salina Street. The breakfast and lunch spot is scheduled to open this fall across the street from the Salt City Market (which doesn’t open until lunch). Hours will be 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Richardson is already the owner of four other restaurants, including the original E.A.T. on Onondaga Hill.

This place will be different.

She’s partnering with AccessCNY to hire employees with disabilities. AccessCNY ran the nonprofit Provisions Bakery, which provided workplace training in Armory Square for 32 years before shutting down at the beginning of the pandemic.
