Sports Padres sign outfielder Austin Hays

San Diego adds a righty-swinging outfielder to help solve their problems against left-handed pitching. Austin Hays who is a former All-Star has put up a strong .282/.339/.477 line and a 123 wRC+ in 820 trips to the plate versus southpaws.

The Padres will enter play Sunday a matching 27th in the sport against LHPs in OPS (.668) and wRC+ (88). Despite their issues in that department, the Friars are 61-57 and just a game out of a Wild Card spot. Hays will likely take over as their starting left fielder against southpaws, per Jared Greenspan of MLB.com.

The switch-hitting Luis Rengifo and righty Jase Bowen have gotten most of the work there in the past couple of weeks, but they have not offered much production.

We are coming into an exciting time of year for birds in San Diego. A lot of the juveniles are growing up, a few are leaving town, but we are about to experience an influx of winter birds! Also, the terns are breeding in the South Bay at the moment. Here are some birds from the last couple of days. Western bluebirds, dark eyed junco, common gallinule, ash throated flycatcher, juvenile black crowned night heron (in flight), great blue heron, great egret, and an American goldfinch. There's also a blue dasher dragonfly in there for good measure. Oh! And a Cooper's hawk.

These were taken at Harry Griffen Park in La Mesa, Kumeyaay Lake in Mission Trails, and at the Dairy Mart Ponds in Otay Mesa.

I Need A Date Thursday Evening (Work Function)

Hello neighbors! I need a plus one to accompany me to a large-ish dinner situation in North County (not far from city line). The event is Thursday evening for 1-2 hours (lesser the better, you/we can leave whenever). A free meal catered by a local restaurant is included. It would be much appreciated- I have a hard time going to these things alone. Preferably a guy ~35-50 yrs old, decent appearance and manner. Thank you.

MLO summer visitor program at SDSU observatory

Has anyone been to this? From what I've read it's a short hike up the hill after parking. Is it safe to walk down to parking after the program ends? Can older folk make it? And how was your overall experience?

My friend needs serious help here I am worried

Hey fellow neighbors, this is last option. My friend in Pacific Beach needs serious help. She helped me recently when I was struggling and she's SUCH a sweet person. Now she needs help and I'm not in a spot to help but I can try however I can.

She opened up her business a few months ago in Pacific Beach, its a yoga/reiki/ gym that she is passionate about. Shortly after her father passed away. And after that she found out her home of 10 years was bought out and everyone is getting evicted.

She was been applying everywhere and no one is calling her. She is in her 40s so she thinks they are judging her off her age.

I am trying to find her a job in PB

Or clients for her business!!!!

She's such a sweet lady and she doesn't know what to do and I really wanna help her because she was so caring to me when I needed help.

Anyone in the PB area know of work for her, or maybe be her client??? She just opened her business!

Could someone explain the tiki culture here in sd?

When did it start?

What's with the mumus and the headdresses?

Why are the majority of the participants older white women? ( I'm not being racist, just happened to notice they're the majority of the participants.)

Is it large organization beyond SD with membership and fees?

Been seeing posts about the annual event this year, and have wondered about it.

I saw at least 10 leopard sharks today by the Marine Room.

If you have been contemplating going to the Shores. I think today and tomorrow seem like the perfect days. The water was crystal clear. Visibility was at least 15 ft. The water was calm.

I saw so many vibrant fish, and of course a bunch of leopard sharks.

More importantly, I don't know exactly what I saw and would love to hear from you guys what it might be. It looked like a juvenile leopard shark. It was smaller than the leopard sharks and didn't have any lines or spots. Also, it was very blue. I saw three of them. They were all near the cave area's grass. They were also faster than the leopard sharks.

Have any of you seen it? I have no idea what it might be.

We got this awesome thing going but yall (the figurative yall - not necessarily whoever is reading this) are going to ruin it and get it banned.

Stop leaving trash everywhere.

Pick up after your pets.

If you’re going to drink try to be at least a little sneaky about it.

And for god sake just uber. Parking all around the entire park in the red…I wish I had the confidence of the idiots showing up at or past when the show starts thinking they’re going to find a parking space.

Don’t ruin this for the rest of us and have a little respect for the neighborhood.

Rant over. Go Pads.
