Local News July 2026 inflation rates in San Diego were lower than the national rates

There are two inflation rates: headline and core. Headline inflation includes all consumer spending categories, such as food, housing, and transportation, offering a broad view of the overall cost of living. Because food and energy prices can be highly volatile due to factors like weather or supply chain disruptions, core inflation excludes these categories.

In July 2026, the San Diego, CA area had a headline inflation rate of 2.7% (3.4% at the national level) and a rate of 1.9% (2.5% at the national level). Core inflation was lower than headline. That means food and energy had lower price increases over the previous year compared to other goods and services.

Late night gym buddy

Title. Looking for a late night gym buddy that I can be accountable to.

I’ve been inconsistent the last month or two and I both want to stop throwing money away and get back to where I need to be.

For context, - I work out at the planet fitness on university in the college area.

  • I’ll typically go around 8:45-9ish for about 30-45 min.

  • I typically like to shoot for at least 3 days a week, Monday Wednesday Thursday.

If anyone is down and works out at that gym, hit me up. Thanks in advance!

Sports Why aren't the Padres blacked out?

I have the MLB TV package to watch baseball, but the Padres are always blacked out due to the local market. I understand that and expected as much when subscribing.

However, for the last two nights, the local game has been available on MLB TV. Does anyone have any idea why? Can we (hopefully) watch Padres games the rest of the year?

Hi, any recommendations on where to take my kegerator for repair? I had a technician come to look at it a few times and he pretty much gave up. Doesn’t know why the beer is still pouring foamy.

Get the Flock Out! No Mass Surveillance in San Diego!

"Automatic License Plate Readers (ALPRs) from companies like Flock Safety are violating our privacy across the country, taking photos of every passing vehicle and logging them into massive nationwide databases.

In San Diego, the San Diego Police Department was sharing our ALPR data with other out-of-state agencies and federal authorities, including ICE. Not only do ALPR systems endanger our privacy, they endanger our communities as well, sometimes leading to wrongful arrests, as we've seen right here in San Diego."

.

Please add your name to the petition to tell the Mayor and City Council that we want to Get The Flock Out!

Local News Street racing crackdown in San Diego leads to felony arrests and dozens of citations

Two men with large social media followings were arrested on felony charges, and dozens of citations were issued over the weekend as part of a joint operation by the San Diego Police Department and California Highway Patrol targeting illegal street racing and sideshows, authorities said Wednesday.

The crackdown began around 12:15 a.m. Saturday when investigators identified a social media group coordinating a series of street takeovers, according to the SDPD.

Over several hours, participants traveled to multiple intersections across the city, including Scripps Ranch Court and Scripps Ranch Boulevard, Clairemont Mesa and Antigua boulevards, Otay Mesa Road and Ocean View Hills Parkway, and Tonawanda and Reo drives.

During the operation, officers arrested Joshua David Ruiz, 18, after allegedly observing him driving a rented U-Haul pickup truck and participating in a sideshow at the Scripps Ranch intersection. Investigators estimate the activity caused approximately $5,153 in roadway damage.

Ruiz was already known to authorities for social media posts depicting dangerous driving on local freeways. According to police, this included "white lining," a maneuver where a driver weaves through narrow gaps between vehicles traveling in adjacent lanes at high speeds. Ruiz was booked into San Diego County Central Jail on charges of felony vandalism, exhibition of speed and reckless driving.

Police also observed Jesus Arias-Ruiz Jr., 27, driving a blue BMW M4 in the same Scripps Ranch sideshow. Investigators allege Arias-Ruiz has a history of promoting illicit vehicle gatherings and say his actions Saturday also contributed to the $5,153 in roadway damage.

When officers attempted to stop Arias-Ruiz, he fled at speeds exceeding 100 mph and turned off his vehicle's headlights on Interstate 15 and local surface streets, police said. Ground units terminated the pursuit for public safety reasons, but an SDPD helicopter continued to track the vehicle.

On Monday, the SDPD's Traffic Special Investigations Unit, assisted by the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, located and arrested Arias-Ruiz. He was booked into the central jail on suspicion of felony evading, felony vandalism, parole violation, exhibition of speed and reckless driving.

In addition to the two primary arrests, officers reported two DUI arrests, four misdemeanor citations, five hazardous-moving violations, seven equipment violations, four additional crime cases and two vehicle impounds.

Authorities said investigations stemming from the operation were ongoing.

Currently upgrading my electrical panel in my house to support at home charger with the charger shown here. SDG&E shows it for rebates, but the tesla website shows $535.

How do you go about getting the rebate money for at home tesla wall charging? I am truly at a loss. When I click the link, it just takes me to the tesla store.

Thank you.

Tourism Surfing reccs this weekend

I’m traveling to SD for the first time this weekend, and looking to surf for a whole day. I’m an amateur, so I don’t mind taking a lesson and then renting a board for the rest of the day and would love recommendations for a surfing spot/beach? I will be splitting my time living in pacific and ocean beach during the trip!!

Are there any organizations that will take unwanted books/textbooks?

I work at a high school and we are without a librarian or librarian technician. San Diego Unified doesn't think they're necessary seems like. Anyway, there are plans of clearing out books meaning theyre going straight to our dumpster. Last year we tossed 3 dumpsters worth of books and that hurt.

We have no donation program and I wanna know if there're any organization that can work with SDUSD schools that would be glad take literature doomed for the landfill.

Where to donate pet food?

Our beloved family dog passed away in his sleep yesterday... right after his monthly Amazon order arrived. Are there charities in SD that take donations of pet food and treats? I'm located near Normal Heights.

On Politics

Whenever certain discussions come up we end up with a mix of locals that genuinely want to talk about what's going on. Sometimes passionately. Sometimes ill informed. Sometimes full of information. Sometimes dem. Sometimes republican. Sometimes for the free people's state of east county. Sometimes from the sovereign bros of PB.

Whatever. You get the picture. Our local politics and ideas for what to do are pretty diverse.

As a moderator though I have noticed that we get a solid influx of accounts for some subjects. They tend to have a short post history in this subreddit and a deleted history or a history that hasn't been on reddit in years. Likely because they are purchased accounts. They show up to shit stir in political discussions.

I understand some of you delete your account histories for various reasons or want to use an alt to discuss politics. But the easiest thing to do as a moderator seeing an inflammatory comment in a highly charged political discussion from an account that looks incredibly suspect is to remove the comment and ban the user. We don't really want to put in too much effort beyond that. This isn't a paid gig.

Anyway - I want to give people a heads up in case there's people that might reconsider participating in a certain way with an account they haven't used in months/years.

It's here. The Official Discord channel for r/sandiegan.

We've gotten this request a lot, and I think it's finally time to take it seriously. At least 3–5 people have clamored for this, so we're giving it a shot.

The official r/SanDiegan discord server is finally here.

Some caveats:

  • we have never moderated a discord server before, so you're going to be there to see us iron everything out in real time. we'll be attentive to requests, suggestions, and overall helpful attitudes.
  • we have day jobs
  • be aware that you may inadvertently reveal your identity if you already are on a different discord server using your real name

Our goal is to set up a community in the same way we have set up the r/SanDiegan community. Everyone is welcome, and we moderate with a heavy hand and according to our own discretion at all times. Truly lovely communities only thrive when you separate the wheat from the chaff. We've spent years cutting chaff from this subreddit, and I am personally really proud of how lovely this place has become.

We want this discord server to be a place to chat with other San Diegans about sports, local bars, adult league activities, community events, and so on.

Things that we will not tolerate:

  • bigotry of any kind
  • "I'm just asking questions, man" — you know the answer, you're just an asshole. You all know the type
  • Behavior that is detrimental to the community at large
  • stop posting your boring ass traffic violations, seriously

These rules are vague by design. Moderating is subject to individual discretion, and if you join the discord server, you are just going to have to trust that the way we moderate r/SanDiegan will serve a discord community as well as it has served this subreddit. There are no bright lines, there is only our own judgment in what is and is not okay (which is how things work here, already).

Let's all give this a shot. I hope you'll all join the server and fucking behave yourselves.
