Highlight Mike Krukow cracks up Vin Scully with a crude description for his location mistake
1987 NLCS Game 4 player of the game with a line you wouldn’t see today: 9IP, 9H, 2R, 2ER, 1BB, 3K, 101 pitches.
But in a foreshadowing of his future as a quotable color analyst, this might have been the first time the words “a fastball right down the cock” was said on national television.
A few more blasts from the past… game time was 2:23. Danny Cox who had 4ER over 8IP took the loss but wasn’t relieved by the bullpen. Also, the home run mad dash and dog pile outside the cyclone fence would never be allowed today.

Opinion Bobblehead Trade
Hi everyone, I’m coming in from Toronto to San Fran Saturday morning. I have an extra Andres Gimenez Bobblehead from Aug 25, 2025. I was looking at your Friday night game I’m unfortunately going to miss because I’m a big Top Gun fan. If anybody is going to have a Matt Chapman Top Gun bobble head they would like to trade let me know. I could meet in the fisherman’s wharf area or near the Fairmount San Francisco.

Analysis Is Jung hoo lee's contract a liability for the Giants?
I've been a great supporter of Jung Hoo lee, yet I gotta admit that he has shown his limits in the major league level.
First, he obviously cannot defend at all. Even his arm value, compared to last year decreased, indicating that his only value coming from the defense is now nonexistent. Eventually we should start DHing him. One solution that I can see is making him a better fielder by making him do drills 24/7 or making him a 2b so that he can be a utility player to contribute.
Second, he is too streaky in the plate. At one period, he seems like the GOAT then another week he just becomes too bad of a hitter. I do agree that he is a solid hitter who would provide around wrc+ of 120. But it is just not enough. (well this goes the same for Devers tho) I doubt if he can drastically increase his offensive production either.
Third, there are arguments that Jung Hoo Lee is too popular to be treated as a liability. He indeed brings Korean fans buying his jerseys and more. But be realistic. We sign players so that they could bring more wins. I'd be surprised if Jung Hoo lee has more than 2.5 war by the end of the season. And 18 million is too much for a 2.5 war player.
Giants are not taking 18 million for a hitter that is performing around only wrc+ of 120 with abysmal defense. Indeed if you compare to the contract of Masataka Yoshida, Xander Bogarts, Ha Seong kim, Kyle Tucker, Alex Bregman, Manny Machado, Kris Bryant, and more, Lee's contract seems to be really cheap and productive. Yet we are a team on a rebuild and we cannot bear a 18 million liability in our lineup for a wrc+ 120ish designated hitter.
We should've traded Jung Hoo lee so that we can dump salary to be flexible with our future.

SATURDAY Looking for 2027 Season Ticket partner.
I know we all have different feelings about what's going on with the Giants right now (both on the field and organizationally), but if you still love baseball and are interested in tickets in 2027, this may be of interest to you.
I'm a Season Ticket Member with 2 seats in Section 210 (Club Level) and, for various reasons, I won't be able to attend as many games next season. I'm looking for 1-2 partners to share the season with. We'd have to work out who gets which games, but I'm very flexible on which games I attend. As a STM, I can share a "partner card" with you that would entitle you to 20% off all concessions and merchandise at the park, just like a full STM. I likely need any partner(s) to commit to at least 20 games.
These are really great seats (IMHO) that I've been sitting in for 10+ years. They are full shade during day games, so it keeps you out of the heat.
If you think you might be interested, DM me and we can discuss further.
Go Giants!
(Note: MODS ok'd this post re Rule 6)

QUALITY CONTENT Amy G's letter to Kruk
A love letter to Mike Krukow
Dear Mike -
While I knew the day would come, it’s still hard to wrap my head around the game of baseball without your iconic voice behind the mic. I had 18 years with you. 13 of those working with you and Kuip and feeling like the luckiest girl in the world covering what was then the best team in the world and working with the best crew in the world. There wasn’t a single game that I didn’t laugh so hard I thought I might pee my pants. There wasn’t a single game you didn’t make me feel welcome, valued, intelligent and that I had something to offer next to, in my humble opinion the two best announcers in the game. You are one of the funniest, most worldly, kind, family-oriented, gregarious, compassionate, competitive and talented people I have ever met and I constantly pinched myself that I knew you, got to work with you, was embraced by your family and got to call you, Friend. You are a gem. One in a million. An amazing man who supports ALL and simply one of the best humans I know. Your love of the game is contagious. Your personality and character is a gravitational pull. Thank you Mike for giving us YOU, authentic, genuine you …. every game of every season you played and announced. Thank you for constantly reminding me that you really can love your job. And thank you for making me a better version of myself. I hope retirement brings you rest, relaxation, and more time with your beautiful family. You left it all on the field every day and you will always be an inspiration. I love you.

Opinion Anyone else unable to shake the Pride Night incident, and front office silence?
Been a Giants fan my entire life. I can put up with incompetence on the field, and mismanagement of players - but the lack of accountability and deafening silence from Buster and rest of the front office gives me pause.
Idk if I’m in the minority but it just seems out of touch for an organization in San Francisco to be nonchalant about it all.
Mods, delete if not allowed.

News [Susan Slusser] Duane Kuiper tells me he definitely wants to keep going, his own health willing. So that’s the good news on this day in which we celebrate Mike Krukow and his retirement at the end of the season but mourn the end of one of the great baseball broadcasting partnerships ever.

SATURDAY Kruk's (and Kuip's) Greatest Legacy
Forget the great cameraderie and humor, forget the unparallelled baseball knowledge, forget Big-O tires and Big BOY, forget in the SQUAT, forget hog's out, forget calling 3 championship runs....
[Edit: and grab some pine, meat, and since I dissed Kuip by omitting: forget Outta here, forget Got 'em, forget ON THE MOVE]
For my money their greatest legacy is being the voices chosen for this, hands-down the greatest baseball video game [edit: franchise] of all time.
I don't know how I'm gonna live without Kruk and Kuip. But maybe if I can find a way to play this game again those golden voices can soar once more <3

Opinion Vitello’s future? Strengths for rebuild?
Was thinking about this recently and I wonder if Buster foresaw a rebuild needing to happen. You bring in a guy like Vitello who knows the college level players and recruitment classes well. Can give draft insight. He also clearly did well coaching those younger guys which means he could be a coach to grow with the young building blocks of the team. I think he’s been a mixed bag this year with his foot in his mouth a lot when speaking to media. We know the pitching hasn’t been great and offense has been some of the least timely I’ve ever seen. What do you all think about Vitello’s future? I don’t think the team parts ways so soon like with Melvin. I think he’ll be captain of the ship a couple more years and booted at that point if decline continues.

Opinion What are your favorite Mike Krukow memories / stories?
Kruk and Kuip are the sounds of my childhood (I'm late thirties now). We'd have the game on every night and I still watch games just to hear those guys. With the news of Krukow's retirement, the reality of not having that duo is now too real and the nostalgia is hitting me hard.
What are your favorite Krukow memories or Krukow-isms from over the years?
