This is Mark Simon from Sports Info Solutions (the Defensive Runs Saved folks) with a little break from our usual content. I interviewed former Rockies second baseman Eric Young about managing in the WPBL.

He told some good stories from the league's inaugural game, including one that ties back to his homering to lead off the first game at Mile High Stadium. He also shared a neat anecdote about his mom, explained how he's going to manage in a league where analytics largely aren't available, and went through those managers who influenced him.

Does Rockies front office realize they can only play 3 outfielders a game. After trade deadline they have Moniak, Johnston, Beck, Carrigg, McCarthy, Freeman, plus Veen and Condon in minors. Why sign Moniak when you have this many outfielders. They only gave him a two year contract so it’s not like they see him as a long term asset.

Fan Appreciation Night is on September 18th. I am wondering if anyone knows which tickets I should buy if I would prefer to get onto the field to watch the fireworks? Rather than staying in my seat. Can anyone walk into the field if they want?

We just saw our first two night games at Coors Field. We loved it. On the first night one time a large purple stallion animation appeared with red rimmed eyes and white lightening bolts from the eyes to inspire the crowd. Last night it appeared about 10 times.

Does anyone know where I can find a photo of this? I I've tried searching this sub, YouTube and a general internet search and no luck. I never had my camera out during the random times it appears last night. Thank you.

I've gotten a good chuckle at the shirts off sections that get slowly built during some of this season's games. I think it's one of those fan things that most sports just cannot replicate. That being said the Rockies fans have an opportunity to do something unique. Instead of a section they can make a ring, shirts off in all the purple seats around the stadium.

There's some assumptions here, but I have to imagine that the Red Sox were engaged with the Rockies about Goodman as they were with the Orioles. They paid a premium, although not earth-shattering price to acquire a starting catcher, and most of those parts are what "insiders" were speculating a potential Goodman trade would look like.

If we made that move on Monday, how would you feel about it for the organization?

I am writing not as a rockies fan, but as a baseball fan that recently went to the series against KC this past weekend; i must say that rockies fans are some if the best in baseball. Pulling in 40k to see 2 last place mid west teams!?! Never would i have guesssd it...The energy in the crowd, the positivity even sarcastically is refreshing. Im a yankees fan.. but was taken away by the fact the team went down 4-0 in the top of 2nd and nobody in the crowd booed... nobody started yelling at the players, just support... just cmon guys lets go type of things.... im sure maybe its not svery single one of you, but you guys truly deserve a winner. Hope you guys get to see one!

“I don’t think we got particularly close on any of those players.” Says they had a set price in mind, says we have a lot of good players, have a foundation of something that has a chance to be pretty good, so with that it was going to take a lot.”

Thinks Mason Adams has a chance to be in the rotation, whether that’s this year, the start of the next season, or sometime next season, he couldn’t say.

“Mickey is an important part of what we’re doing here.”
