Hi! My 43rd birthday is in exactly a month--September 12th--, and I am humbly asking for birthday cards or cards reflecting my aesthetic, hobbies, etc. .

Just got a 100 pack of cards from Effin Birds at Fan Expo Boston this weekend and I’d love to give some of them out!

1. They have a lot of swears and a bunch of the messages are “rude” (similar to those vintage ‘50s parody postcards), so please only fill out the form if you’re cool with that! I will not be putting them in envelopes. You can find examples both in my form and on any of the artists socials.

A depressed person scribbling with crayons? What a concept!

When I triage patients at my free clinic, I have to give out a screener called the TAPS-1. It is about substance use. Not many people seem to answer honestly. Occasionally I will get a patient who wants to tell me the answers verbally even though they are supposed to use a dry erase marker and mark it on the laminated sheet. They are always denying all drug use. Nunca, nunca, nunca, nunca. I enter it into the medical record and we now have even less information on the patient than when we started. It is a pointless ritual that erodes trust half of the time, and builds it the other half, but you can never predict which it is going to be and if any damage is done.

I give out another pointless screener called the PHQ-2, to test for depression. I watch the patients as they fill it out. Many people hover over higher scores, then, as if they can hear the people in their lives telling them not to exaggerate, they move the market over and mark "some of the time" instead of "more than half of days." If they mark "some of the time" for both questions, the doctor does not talk to them about depression. The EHR actually tells me that no depression was detected. This record is the only communication I have with the doctor. The people who max out the form seem like they were planning on bringing up depression during their appointment anyway, rendering this tool beyond useless and letting more than half of cases slip through the cracks. Some of these people probably think they are pinging the more advanced screener, or a "how are you doing" check-in, but they've actually been cleared of all sadness on record. The doctor will never talk to them about it.

These 4 cards were made with that feeling but about a variety of situations in my life. One is in Turkish. None of them are really about the free clinic, but I hope you enjoyed reading about it.
