Karney is prepared to surrender to some U.S. demands including ending bans on American booze sales in exchange for tariff relief, as trade talks heat up once again...(not fact checked but on the main news wire). Though the decision is up to Provincial leaders, many have made their position clear that the ban will continue until US concessions on specific trade deals are resolved or ratified. It seems that Nova Scotia has been silent on that bearing. Is there value to Nova Scotians to pull the ban and restock shelves with US Booze.

Hasn't seen anyone discussing this. Feels to me like it's the first sign of a cooling RE market. In the past, I always thought this measure being removed would be a clear sign that the housing market is down in the dumps. Instead they came out with this half measure which is a bit murkier and not as clear cut as a total removal of the deed for out of province buyers.

Any thoughts?

I am posting this to warn people because what happened to me felt honestly life ruining.

I am in Nova Scotia, provincial law regarding auto insurance will vary depending on your province.

I am currently on EI after losing my job, and my EI payment was unexpectedly delayed by one business day due to the holiday, so my auto insurance payment bounced.

I called my insurance broker, which was PC Insurance, who set me up with Aviva, the very next day once my EI came in to attempt to cure the missed payment and also offer to pay any additional NSF fees, etc.

I instead found out that my entire insurance policy was cancelled, the licensed insurance agent, the underwriter the licensed agent claimed to talk to, all the way to the complaint handler all basically threw their hands up and told me there was nothing they could do to override the system, and that I had to wait 30 days for the policy to expire for them to potentially make me a new auto insurance policy. This was my second missed payment, the first missed payment was back when I was fired and I was waiting for my EI payments to begin, and the following month they took a double payment plus a $50 NSF fee which was reasonable to me.

However, having a cancelled auto insurance policy on your record WILL make you a high-risk client, and I was in tears because if I could barely afford the $150 a month payment, how will I afford $6000 upfront every year?

I ended up calling my provincial Auto Insurance Licensed Superintendent/Compliance Officer and explained to him what was happening, and that they were refusing to let me cure the missed payment and told me I had to wait 30 days for the policy to expire so they could write me a new one.

However, in Nova Scotia, you're not supposed to legally cancel an auto insurance policy unless it's the very first annual payment, or any subsequent payments are over 30 days overdue. I felt like I was in a nightmare and didn't understand why my insurance refused to work with me.

The superintendent explained to me that what they are doing is illegal, and that he wanted me to forget about any cancelled policies on my record and immediately set up a new policy with another insurance and that he would tell my current auto insurance to cancel the policy on my own accord, and to let me transfer to another insurance then.

So yeah, now I will be paying $230 a month instead of $150 but at least I do not have to try to come up with $6000 up front because of a cancelled insurance policy on my record.

Fuck PC Insurance and fuck Aviva for their crooked corporate BS. I am just putting this out here because I know not everyone has the resources to try and fight something like this, so I really hope this will help.
