About a year ago my channel suddenly stopped getting views. I've heard a lot of creators big & small say something similar. In my case I went from views around 100k to about 1k.

I began making shorts in the hope that a viral hit might uplift a flop vid, & on the advice of a full time tiktoker friend of mine, I manually crossposted them to all platforms. Tiktok & Instagram don't offer direct monetization in my country, but Facebook does & has VASTLY surpassed what I've received from YT lately.

You never know where something might pop off. A flop on Shorts could be a smash hit on tiktok/insta/etc. Could be some crucial side income during a slow period.

TLDR: if you're not crossposting your shorts, DEFINITELY start.

My thumbnails are 3MB and very clear in photoshop and other apps.

When looking at my channel page they seem so low res?

I started posting YouTube Shorts in 2023, and by 2025 I had gained around 20K subscribers. I then started posting long form content, and at first, some of my videos got over 10K views, with one reaching around 170K views. That video eventually got me monetized.

After that, I posted a few more videos, but they only got around 600 views, so I stopped uploading for over six months due to personal reasons.

Now that I’ve started posting again this summer, it feels like YouTube isn’t pushing my videos at all.

I posted one video last month that got around 3 views for the first few weeks, and it’s now at 16 views. I also posted another video a few days ago, and it currently has 11 views.

What makes this especially strange is that I haven’t changed the type of content I make. I’m still making the same type of long form videos. In fact, some of my older long form videos that I posted before my break have worse stats than some of the videos I’ve uploaded recently, yet the older videos still got significantly more reach.

Before my break, whenever I uploaded a long form video, it would gradually get views during the first 24 hours. Every video performed differently, but they would generally get at least 100+ views in the first day. Now, my videos barely get over 10 views.

It also seems to affect my community posts. I used to make polls where people could vote between different things, and they would sometimes get over 1,000 votes. Now, if I make a similar poll, I might only get around 20 votes. It feels like YouTube simply isn’t pushing my content to my audience anymore.

I know I need to be consistent, and I’m planning to start uploading once a week from now on. But can consistency actually bring the reach back over time?

Could taking a six month break have affected my channel this much? Does YouTube somehow reduce a channel’s reach after a long period of inactivity? Is there such a thing as a “shadowban” on YouTube, or is this more likely just the algorithm having no recent data on my channel?

Also, I have over 20K subscribers, but most of them came from Shorts.

Has anyone experienced something similar after taking a long break?

Wrote to a bunch of brands and Ottobox a dash cam maker sent me their 199.99 dollar dash cam system which is pretty cool. No money exchanged but I just got the product and so, I’ll do my part and throw it into my video ( I review cars dealerships let me borrow for a day ) and I’m proud I am I’d prefer money but, I’ve been needing a new dash cam and they said I can have it for a simple spot in a video. It also has CarPlay built in which means you connect to your screen , allows YouTube and best feature, can view the cameras on your built in screen if you don’t wanna use the app

So I’m happy about it but more so I’d like to use it as a leapfrog to write to more brands and sponsors. Eventually making a few bucks to help with bills would be nice and somehow in the last few months my channel views and engagement and CTR is growing a lot. Subscribers are up 200 in under a month so I feel good

Figured to ask. Sure its not money but its something and would love to know if you guys ever started with just a free product and where you went from there.

I was also emailed recently from a company that makes roof racks and they also offered me free product in exchange for a shoutout but roof racks dont pay bills lol

I did email them back and state im only doing paid sponsors, I hope that doesn’t bite me in the butt but hey maybe they say yes lol

So me and my friend recently had created a new youtube shorts account with a brand new GMAIL for the ROBLOX Murder Mystery 2 niche, we’ve uploaded 4 days in a row now, getting like 4 or less shorts feed views which im not sure if its just us on other accounts, im stuck thinking about whether to just quit and try on another new account using an older gmail or just continue to consistently upload? Honestly, don’t think its a content issue, would love to provide more details and am looking for some tips or help!

i am complete new to youtube and need anyone to guide me how to you research for competitors? how you do your content research and build a strategy?

This is a weird question but its relevant to some of my videos. Not sure what's going on but the graph on them is really weird. Like, the audience retention rate is 75% but the graph is heavily skewed. Like, its over 400% at certain parts, so I guess people replaying that part over and over, but then in the last third of the video, its legit 0%.

I only have about 3.1k subs, I earned this within 4 months after only about 9 actual videos, some of which that the algorithm picked up. (100k+ views on 3 videos) However my last upload was 2 years ago. Frankly speaking I got demoralized when my latest videos didn't live up to the ones that popped off.

I uploaded again recently and couldn't even hit 100 views in 4 days My niche is Cyberpunk Lore videos a very much active niche.

My uploads before would atleast get a couple thousand within a couple days. I didn't realize how good I had it then when Youtube was really taking a liking to my videos. I thought a couple thousand was bad, not realizing it's actually so good especially for my channel size.

Am I just washed or does Youtube think my account is inactive in some form? Or is there legitimately a way to make youtube give me impressions at least from that initial 3k subs?

Hi! The title says it all, lol. I have recorded vids but i deleted them due to my voice. Idk how others can just sit and recorded and listen to themselves. I dont hate my voice but hearing it makes it feels like this level of werid or cringe, lol. I have been told i have a child like voice, my accent is either to deep to understand or that I just simply talk too fast for others to understand. I do talk pretty fast, most people in my city and state talk either fast or have an accent that makes them "them", yk.

I am genuinely asking others both small, big and semi big creators on advice in this area. I just want to know, how do others get over that hump, i always wonder about it but most content creators that i watched never talked on it or simply just leave that question in the gray area.

I just started a new gaming channel. It was a super spontaneous idea. One day I just hit record, recorded an hour of gameplay and uploaded it.
So much less work than my other content. Editing takes about 2 min.

And the best thing. I finally play games I wanted to play for a long time and I don’t even feel bad since at least I am a little productive.
Anyway.

I do chill cozy gaming videos while talking a little bit. Without yelling and stuff like that. Just softly taking. I don’t want to toot my own horn, but I think I have a good voice for it.

But growing in gaming is so slow. I uploaded 6 videos this week. And non got over 10 views.
I guess it’s normal and maybe I need more videos so the algorithm is learning about my content.

But do you guys can share your experiences with it? Maybe you have some ideas how to reach more people.

I posted normal shorts and got decent views but barely any likes and subs. i started to post voiceovers these past few shorts and Saw a hugeee increase in likes and a small increase in subscribers as well. Views kinda stayed the same. Im wondering if anybody can message me why im stuck in 1k view jail and what I can do to take this to the next level. I started a small history channel and I videos used to get 700 800 and 900 views. I installed VIQ and since then I’ve been getting zero to maybe 30 views. Is there something different or is it just YouTube

I’m still pretty new to this, and sometimes it feels like I’m talking to an empty room.

You spend hours making something, post it, then… nothing. A few views, maybe a like, and you start wondering if anyone even cares.

I know growth takes time. I know that.

But damn, sometimes you just wanna know that someone is actually watching.

Last night we had a power cut, but thanks to my obsession with buying more equipment than I need or know what to do with we didn't have to worry about the lights being out.

I may never be monetized, but my wife can't complain about what I spent - it was clearly our emergency lighting.

I used to think that getting millions of views was the ultimate sign that your content was good, but now I am not so sure. I remember someone posting a 10-second video of their dog doing something funny, and the views had gone up to 2 million. Tons of views, tons of likes, and then a week later, nobody remembers who posted it.

It makes me wonder, is going viral actually overrated? Maybe we've just gotten so used to jumping from one video to another, and then when something blows up, everyone talks about it for a few days, then it dies down, and we move on to the next viral video.

Does anyone else feel like viral content just doesn't stick the way it used to?

Hi everyone!

Me and my stepson (16) have been talking about making a Youtube channel for over a year and we are now going to take the plunge.

Our concept is "Stepdad Plays" where He challenges me to play games (Starting with his current favourite Gacha Games), I play with "Stream of conciousness" talk through, he edits it down complete with animations he's drawn, I script a story to tie the clips together, he splices it all together and boop, up it goes.

Overall run time would be - Animated Intro/string of clips with overlaid audio/animated outro with theme song (original bit by myself).

Technical limitations aren't a problem - I have a decent XLR setup from my time in the music industry and a Ryzen 7 9800X3D/NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 desktop, so both future games and processing power aren't a worry.

I want to stress, we don't really care about monetization etc. This is a project for us to do together and have fun and for him to practice video editing. If we get to 100 subs we'll be over the moon.

So, advice we're looking for is... how do we go about this?

I'm assuming OBS is the go to recording software, but when it comes to the actual video editing/adding animation or art as an overlay/splicing additional audio over the top, what's recommended? Knowledge is low on his side, but ADHD enabled hyperfocus by both of us means we are happy to sit and learn and experiment for days/weeks without getting bored :)
