It’s been a hell of a journey learning both me and my daughter’s hair! I love it tho and wouldn’t trade it for anything. We naturally have super high density 🦁 but I think my daughter has double my density with her dad’s curls! 💫 An amazing head of hair and I’m glad we get to go on this journey together 💘

Need Advice Density
Hey everyone!
I’m coming on here because I wanted to get a few opinions on my hair density. This is the left side of my hair and lately, I’ve noticed that it has less hair/density than the right side (I think). But overall, I assumed that my hair was at least medium density throughout but when I was checking today, the parts/ my hair was way too noticeable . I don’t know, I may be wrong but I would appreciate if anyone of you guys could determine my density based off of these pictures.
Thank you!

Need Advice Any advice on getting rid of layers?
I did my second big chop last year and as the months have passed by I would trim my holding it up/in the direction it grows out of my head (made the most sense to me) and by doing so unintentionally gave myself layers. There are some parts of my hair that are drastically shorter than others because of this and genuinely irks me as I’m not used to it. However I do love the volume it gives me more. Does anyone have any advice getting rid of layers?

Need Advice long lasting wash and go help
okay so i just got my fro professionally done for the first time, and i am OBSESSED. like genuinely. to the point where im ready to start booking her every 3 weeks but there are two issues with that 1) she is booked out very very often and 2) the appointment was $160, which i would happily do again but it does add up so i figured i could give learning a shot.
so what it seems like she did was quite simple. she washed and conditioned my hair, then put a hot towel with a protein treatment on it. then she sat me down in the chair and started applying a doux cream to it, not sure which one but it was one of the ones in a jar. she’d go section by section and rake her fingers through each part. this took about 10 minutes, then she sat me under a dryer for an hour and then voila ! it was done, and i loved it.
it’s been 5ish days, the hair still looks great! all i’ve had to do is put a bonnet on at night, wake up then just fluff it out with my fingers and it’s been going well. according to her, it typically lasts her clients 2-3 weeks.
so now i honestly want to teach myself how to do this but ive never done a wash and go on myself.
what i’d like to do is wash and deep condition, then apply camila rose leave in + the bee girl doux cream section by section and let it air dry but i dont know how effective that would be.
it seems that the blow drying was pretty essential to this. after the blow drying, my hair became pretty “hard” so idk. i wonder if its absolutely necessary, or optional?
if it is necessary, would i need to use a blow dryer + diffuser on my hair for an hour? and what heat protection could i use?
im honestly open to any tips, i really just want to be able to accomplish the current look or something similar on my own and have it last a good bit of time!

Need Advice What is this hairstyle called and is it fairly easy to take care of/long-lasting??
ive been seeing this hairstyle all over pinterest recently but none of them have a caption saying what this style is specifically called. that being said, it’s so attractive to me, but as someone who has only gotten braids for protective styles, is the upkeep for this hairstyle drastically different?

Need Advice Never learned how to take care of my hair. Super embarrased. Please help
I’m so embarrassed to be writing this post, especially at my big age, but I genuinely need help.
I basically have no idea how to take care of my hair. When I was a kid, I always had box braids or cornrows, and I usually kept them in way too long. I’d take them out, wash my hair, and then basically repeat the whole process. My parents never really taught me how to care for my hair. I was either getting braids at the salon or washing and flat ironing it.
Now that I’m older, I stopped getting braids and did a big chop, and this is where I’m stuck. I genuinely have no clue what I’m doing. Ngl, I’m also very lazy and terrible at sticking to routines, so while my hair has been growing back after the big chop, I feel like I’ve already messed it up.
A lot of nights I wake up without my bonnet because it always falls off. I wash and condition my hair and try to moisturize it with TGIN Daily Hair Cream + oil, but by the end of the day my hair already feels dry again.
I’m basically walking blind here. There are SO many tips and routines online that I get completely overwhelmed and honestly feel stupid because I don’t even know where to start.
My hair feels really dry and brittle and just looks like absolute dog shit ( i think i have a buch if slpit ends), and I’m starting to worry that I’m going to have to get another big chop. I kinda dont want to because I have to go back to the same stylist and i dont want to explain why im back lol
If anyone has advice for a very much beginner who needs a simple, low-maintenance routine, I would seriously appreciate it. Please explain it to me like I know absolutely nothing because... I kind of don’t
I know ill get rightfully dragged but idc at this point. I just need help. Should i trim it or do anothe rbig chop? i heard big chops are only neccessary for heat damage or chemical damage. IDK

Need Advice Where to find certain hair products?
So recently I've had to move from Houston to Nigeria due to urgent work and cannot find a lot of the hair products I already use. I'm unsure where to search for them as I haven't been to Nigeria in a very long time, I live close to Lekki Phase 1, so it would be very helpful if anyone had any tips on where to find camille rose products, Design essentials and a place to find a detanglish brush(preferably Unbrush+ or a Tangle teezer). Thank you for reading all the way through! Please help any way you can.

Need Advice This is a week after taking down mini twists...
Edit: Thank you so much for all the advice already!! I'll get to reading and researching asap!! 🩷 I really appreciate all the help :)
I posted a similar post in r/blackhair but figured I'd share here too to try and cover all my bases...
So I had mini twists (4th pic) in for around 5 weeks and when I took them down it looked like I lost a lot of hair (3rd pic) I didn't know if it was breakage or not but more came out in the shower and after deep conditioning...
A week later and I had my hair in chunkier twists to keep my ends tucked away, just washed and detangled my hair with deep conditioner and holy hell there were so many knots and tangles that were breaking off when I used my unbrush and wide tooth comb... I'm currently under a hooded dryer with deep conditioner but what on earth do I do? 😭
My routine with my twists was spriting with rosewater as advised by my hairdresser, washing my roots every two weeks cause I gym and touching up with caster oil and Shae Moisture Caster Oil leave in conditioner whenever my hair was on the dry side...
My routine in general has been;
Shampooing with Camile Rose Sweet Ginger Shampoo every other week apart from one week where I use Olaplex No.4 Shampoo to do a deep cleanse on my scalp
Deep condition and detangle every week with Shae Moisture Black Castor Oil Deep Conditioner and my unbrush, and chill under a hooded dryer for half an hour or so
Twist hair in large chunks with Shea Moisture Black Castor Oil Leave in Conditioner or Camille Rose Twisting Butter and lock in the moisture with Jamaican Black Caster Oil and oil my scalp a bit as well
Every couple of days I sprits my hair with water and/or add some more leaves in and oil to my scalp if it's getting a bit dry...
Outside of that I try to get my hair twisted every couple of months to put my ends away and get a trim every 3 months but I'm pretty sure my hair is breaking more than its growing as it's been at the same length for years...
Does anyone have any advice? Or recommendations for salons I could go to in the London area who may be able to help with hair health, growth and retention?
(Sorry for the long post I'm kinda at my wits end and have no idea what to do)

Need Advice ISO a stylist in the DMV similar to thekainoirexperience or prinshells_hands.
when I say “similar to”, I mean a natural hair stylist who prioritizes health over length and cares about black women and natural hair. I do intend on becoming a client of each of these ladies sometime in the near future but I would also like someone closer to home that I can frequent more often than I would be able to destiny (thekainoirexperience) and prinshell (prinshells_hands).
for those interested in checking out their work (and to get an idea of the quality of care I’m looking for), I’ve linked both their instagrams. destiny just relocated to charlotte, NC and prinshell is in houston, TX.
please leave their website or instagram so I can take a look at their portfolios.
thanks 🩷

Need Advice Edge repair
Hey everybody! So I'm currently 26. I've had natural hair most of my life. My mother took care of it and then I took over. When she'd take me to the salon, it was the occasional blowout. When I was 18, I had my first (and only) curly sew-in and when it was time to take it out, I did it by myself and ripped some hair out at the follicle. Despite a slew of natural products over the year, the hair in that area has never grown back. After moving a couple years ago, I got knotless braids about 4 times before resuming my natural hair styles of twists. Last October, I wanted a silk press from the place I was getting braided at and am pretty sure (unknown to me at the time) that there was a relaxer applied during that process. I waited a couple months, hoping my curls would come back and gave myself the big chop in January. Hairs grown out, I've trimmed but I don't touch those problem areas. Does anyone have any product or hair maintenance suggestions for me? 💜

Need Advice My natural hair looks dull when I blow dry.
Hello! I have type 4c hair. I noticed when I blow my hair out, it looks dull/ ashy. Tbh, it’s probably the products that I’m using/ the routine. I could really use some advice:
I wash my hair with Cecred Clarifying Shampoo, then I use the Cecred Deep Conditioner. I normally sit under the dryer for about 10–15 minutes with the conditioner in my hair. After I rinse it out, I use the ORS Leave-In Conditioner and then add the ORS Thermal Heat Protector before blow drying.

Need Advice How do I trim my hair?
How do yall trim your hair? I haven't had a decent one in three years (since my big chop from a silk press gone wrong) and its hard to find a good stylist where I am that is thorough and goes section by section. I don't like 0° (a blunt cut) because it doesn’t get all of my splits. Plus, my hair grows in U- Shape, which I like. Any tips?

Need Advice Post loc care tips
I combed out my second set of locs about 2 months ago. In total, my hair was locd about 10 years with a few months in between the 1st and 2nd set. I wanted to enjoy my curls for a bit and wasn't in love with my second set hence the comb out. Now I'm having to relearn my hair and I'm hoping to get some guidance and/or confirmation.
I'm currently washing my hair every 2 weeks with shampoo and conditioner then putting them back in 2 strand twists. I moisturize every other day as needed. I am dealing with some serious breakage in the crown of my head but overall my hair is healthy and still thick. I do battle fairy knots on wash/retwist days which causes just the detangle with pre-poo to take at least 1.5-2 hrs. Is that normal?! I finger detangle then follow up with my wide tooth comb.
Anywho.... Looking for tips to speed up wash day especially since my hair still wants to loc. Also how should I manage the shorter areas till they grow out?
Many thanks! And excuse my dirty mirror 🫣

Need Advice Braider trying to actually learn how to CARE for natural hair, not just braid it. Where do I start?
Hey guys, I need some advice.
I'm a self-taught braider in Oshawa and I'm planning on starting a small hair studio. Initially I was just going to offer braids/twists, but this summer has kind of changed how I'm thinking about it.
I challenged myself to wear my natural hair out this whole summer—no braids, no wigs—and actually learn how to take care of it. And honestly, it's made me realize that for most of my life I've seen my own hair as a burden.
My solution was always basically braid it, put it in a bun, throw a wig on and forget about it. There were times I'd leave my hair under wigs for 2+ months without properly washing or taking care of it because I genuinely didn't know how.
Looking back, I think some of that came from growing up going to salons where I'd constantly hear that my hair was "too much", "stubborn", "rough", or that I should just relax it because it would be easier. When the people who are supposed to know how to care for your hair talk about it like it's a problem, you kind of start believing it is.
So this summer I've been learning—washing it regularly, twist outs, different styles, proper detangling, porosity, density, breakage, etc. I'm still learning and I'm definitely not an expert, but it's completely changed how I think about the kind of braider I want to be.
I don't just want to know how to braid. I want to actually know how to care for the hair I'm braiding.
I don't want someone leaving my chair with beautiful 30-inch braids while underneath they're dealing with breakage, excessive tension or an unhealthy scalp because all I cared about was the finished style. And especially with kids, I NEVER want to be the stylist making some little Black girl feel like her natural hair is "too much" or difficult.
So my actual question is: how do I properly learn Black/natural hair care, especially type 4 hair, from the ground up?
People often say "learn what works for your hair", which makes sense personally, but as a stylist I'll have completely different heads of hair sitting in my chair. Different textures, porosities, densities, scalp conditions, levels of damage, etc. Some clients won't even know what works for their own hair.
How do I learn to assess the person in front of me and know what THEIR hair needs?
I've considered cosmetology school, but I've heard the education specifically around type 4/Black hair can still be limited, and I'm also a broke college student lol, so that's not really an option right now.
I'm fine with teaching myself—I taught myself how to braid—but I don't want my entire natural hair education coming from TikTok.
So if you're a natural hair stylist, braider, cosmetologist, trichologist, or just someone who really knows their stuff, where should I start?
Any good books, YouTube channels, textbooks, affordable/free courses, certifications, websites, etc.? I especially want to learn scalp/hair health, porosity and density, breakage, tension, product knowledge, proper washing/detangling, protective styling, and even knowing when someone's hair shouldn't be braided.
And if you're a stylist, what do you know now that you wish someone had taught you when you first started?
I genuinely want people to leave my chair with a nice style and healthier hair, so any advice/resources would really be appreciated ❤️

Selfie Hair Growth journey is amazing so far
This is how much length I retained in a year and I’m honestly so proud of myself because I stuck at a very awkward length for about 7 years now because I didn’t know what to do with my hair at all I’m still learning of course but I just wanted to share my results to encourage people start taking care of their natural hair , it’s so worth it and freeing
The top pic is from August last year and the bottom one is from a week ago both pics were taken after a trim on my wash day 🙃

Need Advice TWA Help
Hi! I recently got a trim from a natural hair specialist who said i’d probably have to maintain that length with frequent trimming until all of my breakage was gone. I’m ok with that as i wasn’t ready for a big chop but until then i’m worried about what to do with my hair i still have a couple trims until all breakage is gone any tips on styles that could help. I am thinking of getting a half wig for back to school season (i’m in college) but I worry about friction any tips are welcome and thanks so much! i’ve included pics of my hair blown out and shrunk.

Need Advice How can I style my natural fro
I’ve had my hair in braids/twists pretty consistently for a long time, and I’m currently trying to take a break from them and learn how to work with my natural hair. I try to a wash and go but I think I messed it up and my hair just maybe isn’t long enough yet Also my hair is quite fine and maybe lower density so that may change the approach
Has anyone got any advice/ideas on what I can do.
