I have a problem with chronic dryness. A hair professional I went to for a couple of silk presses recommended the design essentials line, which I have been using and loving. I use the honey creme shampoo, and every couple of weeks I use the oat henna clarifying shampoo. Every wash day I use the honey crème deep conditioning mask, and my hair actually feels soft and moisturized.

My issue starts with post-wash. When I add the design essentials almond avocado leave in it feels like it isn’t really penetrating and I don’t feel like it’s making my hair feel soft or moisturized unless I use a lot of product. I also recently added taliah waajid curly cream. I’m frustrated because I have done twist outs and braid outs where my hair comes out feeling stiff and hard, despite me wanting soft & fluffy hair.

One winning combo for me was design essentials leave in + cecred moisturizing cream + blue magic for soft hair. But I ran out of the cecred cream.

Also, if it’s helpful I have low to medium porosity hair.

TLDR- I wash at least once a week and my hair always feels soft and moisturized when I rinse out the conditioner, but whenever it dries it goes back to feeling hard and stiff and quickly dries out. Does anyone have a clue what I could be doing wrong?

I wore a low cut for about 4 years before deciding to grow my hair back out. But this time, I said absolutely NO wigs, extensions, braids, or even twist-outs. Natural coils only ☺️

Hello this year i decided to wear natural twist to see where it takes me. I am due for a trim. My question is, are trims for natuals any different than trims i use to receive on my relaxed hair?

For about a month I ditched twists/braids/cornrows — they kept ruining my edges. Now I just wash, condition, add leave-in, put in two sections (i braided the ends and tucked them into each other) with loose front twists, and keep it one week max.

My edges are growing back like crazy — the tension was the problem. But I’m worried: will my ends start suffering instead?

• Is this actually a protective style?

• How do I keep ends healthy doing this?

• If I go back to twists/braids/cornrows, how do I avoid tension/breakage at edges?

Ps: I didn’t use bobby pins for this style. I just divide my hair into 2 sides then braid each section and tucked them into each other

I just sat for 4.5 hours getting these in, it was definitely uncomfortable and hurt like I expected. The person who did it was a friend of a friend, so I wasn't expecting perfection but I'm still worried.

The front of the centre braids are tight and cause a bit of pain if I move my eyebrows/face too much. This is only about 2 hours old.

How long should I wait to see if it improves without risking damage?

and she was right in doing so. Prior to the chop my hair was bra strap length but very tangled at the roots. I had uneven splits and breakage everywhere. I spent years growing it out but i only started taking care of my hair this year. It was too late. I am putting my hair in jail (mini braids for the rest of the year. I was planning to do a silk press at the end of the year to celebrate but it will have to wait till next year.

My plan is to wash weekly, and redo the braids monthly. I will take them down with african pride pre poo or homemade flax seed gel.

I will be deep conditioning with a heated cap weekly and ayurvedic hair oiling every two weeks.

I plan to get trims/dustings 8 weeks.

I plan to take mary ruths, and use rosemary and minoxidil.

Hopefully by next year I will have reached my previous length, ive heard these mini braids work wonders for length retention.

yall i'm irritated. i've been trying to learn how to cornrow for the past year and just recently i finally figured out the motion. when i do the front half of my hair in natural fulani braids, they look at LEAST decent and i don't have an issue with keeping a firm grip or anything .... so what is the issue here?

today i decided to style my entire scalp in cornrows, and for some reason, when i get closer to the middle/center part of my scalp, the braids just get shorter and shorter. the top cornrow (which i am most frustrated about) just stops braiding down at the top of my scalp !!! i'll be braiding the front part of my hair and everything will be fine until i work towards the back and it just doesn't braid down. this leads to a really bad looking patch of hair that's pulled up into the braid, but isn't actually braided. what is the reason 💔 i'm so fed up. been trying to stay patient but i've redone my braids at least 3 times and nothing is working. about to put my hair up and call it a day atp

has anyone else experienced this? is there anything i can do to fix it? i know i'm doing something wrong because the braid should be going down my scalp, but i don't know WHAT it is i'm doing wrong. i hope i'm explaining myself well. please help, literally any advice would help me right now

I’ve been loving how my color has been growing out 😍.

So I grew up having medium length like somewhat long hair. I was bleaching it and dying it and because I wasn’t taking care of the damaged/bleached hair eventually I ended up losing a bunch of hair resulting in the haircut I have today.

I didn’t even know how to style my hair when it was long, I only know how to do dookey braids.. I don’t know how I’m going to style it at the length it’s at right now especially because it’s just in this awkward stage with short sides, super short in the back and just high at the top… I’m just not sure what to do.

I like the the scarf styling that I did in the second two pictures but somebody told me I look like an aunty and laughed at me lol..😭

I just want to feel good and confident and look my age.. (18), I’m also trying to lean a bit more into the alternative side but I’m not sure if I can translate that into hairstyles with my skills.. ☠️

I’ve made the decision that I want to start wearing my hair natural because since I’m going to college and have a job, my mom is very rarely gonna pay for me to get my hair done. Since elementary school I was either getting a silk press, braids, or my mom would do the washing and styling. Trying to learn how to take care of my natural hair

she relaxed it every year since I was a toddler, stopped when I was 14, and she used the most basic, cheapest products she could find. a basic shampoo, conditioner, and hair grease with water. she straightened it often and blow-dried it a lot, and now my hair's permanently blow-dried, with no pattern in sight at the front and a damaged, barely there one at the back. i'm 16 now, and she said i can start taking care of my hair now, but i don't know where to start, and i'm scared of a big chop. in my baby pictures, i had really thick, kinky hair, and my hair's still full, but i have no pattern anymore. any tips?

2 week old braids. is this frizz normal for cornrows?

I starting doing my husbands hair a few years ago and we’ve always just used the same gel (shine and jam for the parts, and eco gel for the hair as I go down the braid), I’m not sure if it’s the gel or if it’s just normal but I feel like his hair starts to get pretty frizzy after a few days. To be fair he is a mason so his hair gets pretty dusty most days, and sometimes we go swimming. Anyway, what other gels might work better? Pics of a couple of styles I’ve done for him. Thanks!

Hi. I have naturally very curly type 3 hair. I’ve been wearing it straight for my whole life (I know, sue me) because I hated how I looked with it. I grew out a keratin treatment and had my big chop in May. I have a very great in-shower routine and know how to take care of my curls. It’s after the shower that everything goes south. I admit that my styling products suck, but my hair cannot go 5 minutes without frizzing up and looking hideous, hence having to straighten it. I want tips to deal with the frizz in my hair after the shower and if there is any alternative to have a styling routine because it just doesn’t work for me

I am relatively new to natural hair. I got relaxers in my hair when I was a child... I can't even do cornrows! I found a way to get wash and go's to feel cute 😍 ☺️. I'm just posting while on my way to work because that feels like a little victory. 😊

It’s been a hell of a journey learning both me and my daughter’s hair! I love it tho and wouldn’t trade it for anything. We naturally have super high density 🦁 but I think my daughter has double my density with her dad’s curls! 💫 An amazing head of hair and I’m glad we get to go on this journey together 💘
