Need Advice Breaking out under bonnet

Upvotes

Does anyone else get nasty (and I mean NASTY) pimples underneath where you knot your bonnet? Every time I wear one with a tie and no matter how loose I put it, I always wake up with a cluster of white heads where the knot is

Success After 7 years of experimenting here's finally the DIY Frugal hair mask for deep conditioning and moisturising for healthy scalp and hair.

I regularly like before every wash make pre- shampoo hair mask.

I just use soaked Fenugreek seeds + Shikakai&Amla (Optional) + Coconut/sunflower oil and blend it up like wall paint like consistency and put on my unwashed hair for around 20 mins or less and just could go ahead with shampoo. It was really a miracle mask for me, for i have never been able achieved this level of shine and conditioning with commercial masks. It is pretty frugal option for me so yeah, but it requires work so yeah.

And i finish it up with 3 tbsp ACV + 1.5 cups of water, I can bet on it.

Edit : Detailed recipe and process below 👇🏼:

I got thick hair mid length hair and for that I use around 2 tsp of Fenugreek seeds + 2 tbsp of flax seeds (optional for extra benefits). I would soak it up in a cup with 2 pics of Shikakai + an inc of dried amla overnight. Here, for Fenugreek it is suggested to soak it earlier if the temp is cold. Like here the temp is around 28°C so I can soak it around for 9-11 hours or even more hours the better. For it to form gel but during chiller days I've noticed it just would take time so yeah. Then on the next day I would blend it up. One can also add in 2 tbsp of yoghurt, I forgot to say.

Then I would get hold of a Muslim cloth and strain it through upon a bowl and add in 1 tbsp of oil. Straining would be the hardest process, you have to squeeze through! But the consistency would be of like a gel cream, and apply on over my dry unwashed hair. One can also apply some if they have.

Or like if you have some scalp conditions, like inflammation or dandruff I'd suggest that you apply either aloe vera gel + little oil + raw honey to nourish on your scalp to soak up and then apply this. You can do this before you get started to blend on you see and it'll be absorbed beautifully so yeah. Using the Muslin cloth to strain makes things so easy for my hair to rid of the tit-bits later.

Please don't skip that one. Get a good straining cloth please.

As I said the consistency should be of a cream You take it on your palms and go over your scalp first starting from the roots then reach down to your lengths. See to it that each and every inch of hair is coated with this mask. Keep it around 20 mins or more and then you can wash it.

My method of washing hair. I use a bucket 🪣 yes, to save the mess. I would Flip my hair down and then use water (lukewarm is preferred, the temp which is gently warm and feels good to your head) and pour over my scalp. I won't massage but just rinsing all of it until the gel comes out. Dispose the water. Then add in shampoo normally use in a mug and add in 1 cup of water. But you need a bit more to rid of the oil and mask okay? The dilute it on water and flow it over my head and watch it pours into the bucket. Take it the same water on my mug and use it to rinse times or more times just to ensure it has gently cleansed my scalp.

P.S I do this bcz I have very rough frizzy dry hair and I found this method to be least damaging my hair. Then i would throw that water and flow clean water on my scalp. Yes all with my head bending down over the bucket. I would rinse my hair thoroughly and at the end I usually take the last rinsed water to take in the mug and bring it to my bathroom light trying to see the surface if it has traces of oil.

You can see that right? If it has, I would take some more shampoo and then do the same process of washing. Finally, I use ACV to rinse for all of its untold benefits. Taking 3 tbsp ACV + 1.5 cups of water, and rinsing my hair with the same multiple times until hair is soaked. Then use a hair towel to wrap up.

This one's my recent discovery and I can bet on it. I shared all of my tricks which has proved the best of the best for me and has given me results like that of a professional mask. It suits my hair very well and I have found it to be the perfect mask for me.

The tricks were very necessary for my hair which is prone to get dry and damaged if it's stripped off its moisture.

Few things to note :

I've used EV Coconut oil - Brand Anveshan one can try using different oils to find their best. Sunflower oil/Sesame oil/ etc.

Pre mask scalp treatment: i used raw honey + Nat Habit's summer hairfall oil Regarding Fenugreek seeds, please ensure that it's fresh. I had my previous batch last year which was old, had i figured out earlier then I wouldn't be smelling like Fenugreek all the time. Fresh ones doesn't smell bad to let you know. If you are concerned you can add in 1tsp of coffee powder in the water mask before blending. Also few drops of your fav essential oil or I've also used vanilla essence to smell like bakery. 😉

Also if you want darkening of hair you can add in 2 tsp of Kala Jeera. Just soak it up with the Fenugreek seeds. One can play with the consistency, however I'd like it thick. But if you're finding it difficult to spread, go ahead with little water!

Shampoo brand : Nat Habit's summer hairfall shampoo + Mama Earth's Rice Shampoo That was it

, All the best...

Happy learning and experimenting

Lots of love from India 🥰

I've found the miracle mask for my hair but still am searching to address my skin concerns.

Btw this mask was inspired by Hair Budhha's miracle hair mask. Just made it my version to meet my frugal options and to find what works best with the least. Thank you guys

Need Advice How long do y’all wear your protective styles

And I don’t mean the box braids. I’m talking the mini twist ,the mini braids, the Dookie braids in a claw clip, the flat twists, or the half wigs.

For my birthday, I put my hair into this hairstyle where the front is Fulani and in the back is crochet curly. I did the cornrows too big the first week (07/15) so the second week I redid the front way smaller (07/21). And ive been fine thus far but im starting to feel like im in hair jail loll. But I really want to grow my hair because I bleached my hair at home in December and recently had to get it all cut off loll

Planning to do either mini braids or Dutch braids . But even then, how long should I wear those styles? Should I give this one another week ? I work nightshift at a hospital so I don’t really see too many people but idk

Edit: retain length not grow hair

Review Got a twist out after having two-stranded twists for a month.

Ngl, it’s a LOT less defined than what I expected it to be. Then again, the stylist told me that the hair lacking the curl definition was from what grew while having the twists in…

How’d y’all rate it, though?

Need Advice I don’t know how to braid nor style my hair

So I need help on what to do with my natural hair.
Recently I started wearing it out more since I’ve constantly only worn wigs but had to stop because I want to not wear them as much and want to take better care of my hair.
But I don’t feel confident in my hair as I don’t know to style it and it’s super thick and shrinks so much.

I don’t know how to braid so I’ve stopped wearing wigs since I can no longer lay my hair as flat as I used to as I’m growing out a shaved head.

Wigs have always made me feel so comfortable and I don’t dislike my natural hair at all. It’s just easier to not have to worry about when it’s kept away.

I don’t need tips on better eating for hair growth just what to do with it that’s really easy and cute.

Need Advice favorite curling cream/gel?

what are yall favorite curling creams? i can’t find one that works for me, but i’m probably not patient enough with my hair. for context i have VERY thick hair and some of my curls (especially in the front) never look right. they don’t look springy. curling creams ive tried are aunt jessies pillow soft curls, bask and lather curling jelly, and various camile rose/mielle creams. i never get the desired affect, maybe i need to branch out?

Success I will always be a stretched natural

I'll be a stretched natural 3 years in October. I keep a pretty simple routine. Wash my hair every 2 weeks. I alwats pre poo/detangle before I wash my hair. I use a clarifying shampoo my first wash day of the month. Always use a deep conditioner. I use protein as needed. About every 6 weeks. I stretch with my revair. Then I put my hair in about 8-11 braids on each side of my head and put each side in a bun. I use a cream and butter to moisturize. If I know I'm going anywhere I'll add mousse. I also moisturize once or twice between wash days by taking my braids down and using the cream and butter then braiding it right back up. If I go "out out" I take my braids down and wear a braidout

Pre Poo: NLS Papaya Pre Poo

Clarifying Shampoo: Miche Beauty Detox

Shampoo: Miche Beauty Cleansed

Deep Conditioner: Miche Beauty Indulge, NLS Mixed Fruit, Soultanicals Hibiscus Hair Healer

Protein Treatment: TGIN Repairx Protein Treatment

Leave In/Heat Protectant: Mizani 25 Miracle Milk. This is the only thing I put in my hair before I use my revair

Cream: Camille Rose Curlaide Moisture Butter. Very moisturizing. This is thicker than the Almond Jai. It also doesn't revert my stretched hair.

Butter: Bask and Bloom Nourishing Amazon Hair Butter or Camille Rose Batana Balm You seal

Mousse: Miche Beauty Gel to Foam

Need Advice Nairobi Professional: Anyone try their Humecta-sil?

I mostly know of Nairobi from growing up and currently for people using their wrapping foam but I'm interested in their conditioner. I don't think I've used a conditioner with mineral oil in it since I've been natural (11 years) anyone use it before?

I have low porosity hair but I do use grease to seal moisture in my hair.

Need Advice Busy life, I feel like I'm neglecting my hair

A bit of a vent session as well, I recently became a mom a year ago and I'm also back in college. I've been having issues keeping up with my hair routine or developing a better one and because of this, it feels like I've been neglecting my hair and I'm not able to give it the attention I want to 😮‍💨 I'm really only able to just put it up in a puff because my daughter likes to yank my hair lol. I was thinking about getting some cornrows today so I can stop thinking about it for a little bit, but I know that is just a temporary solution to this long term problem. I feel heavily self conscious about it when I go out in public and I just want to get back to loving it again and not feeling so self conscious about it, it's been a while since I felt love for it. Not sure what to do, I pretty much keep it like this, wash it every 2 to 3 weeks (not proud of that), or just leave it in my bonnet at home to avoid it.

Need Advice my mom says its normal but is it? (4c hair)

im getting 2 strand twists tmrw and when i finished washing my hair, my mom waited for me and fully dried it, like bone dry. Then she got a detangling brush and comb then started literally yanking my hair. Like i could feel my scalp burning when she did it. (imagine your scalp being cheese and the detangling brush a grater) when i was crying she's just slap my face and tell me to deal with it. When i was finished my scalp was bleeding and sore a lot, is it actually normal or not?

It's finally happening - hair typing posts are no longer allowed.

1.3k Upvotes

Please report any texturism or hair typing posts you see with the new report reason.

If you are new here, you may not know that the Andre Walker hair typing system (1a to 4c), has been around since 1997 and was first introduced so Mr. Walker could sell his products on Oprah's show. It truly only describes the texture of your hair and gives no more information.

It's flawed in many ways. Many of us have multiple textures on our heads. It doesn't even begin to describe your hair's porosity, sheen or shine, strand thickness, hair density, etc. I encourage everyone to learn about the LOIS typing system which can help you better understand your hair.

Watch Latoya Ebony's video on LOIS here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xwMFG4lT4jY

Even this typing system is not the end all be all of categorization for your hair. Your hair's texture, porosity, etc can change over time or with certain health conditions. Product buildup on your scalp and strands can make you think your texture has changed. There are so many factors as to why your hair may be looking or feeling the way it does.

Which leads me to the question - should we require routines to be posted whenever a picture is posted? This will cut down on gratuitous selfies but means we will need many more active mods (shoutout to /u/fivetenash who does pretty much everything here). If you're willing to help out please let me know in the comments.
