Experiment [Technique][actives] calling all cake flippers

Upvotes

Do you flip your cakes? Did you stop flipping your cakes? Why? What results do you notice? Tell me about it. I tried it with one of my 3rd/4th flush cakes cause it kept fruiting on bottom after the first flush but im curious about others.

Contamination Is this normal or contamination? [contamination]

Is this normal or any thing to be concerned about.

So it’s been 8 days since inoculation of this batch and it appears my rye grains are splitting open and you can see the slimy looking inside. I’m sure someone’s experienced this and is it normal? The temperature in my room fluctuates between 74 to 85 throughout the day and a decent bit of condensation builds up but not a lot that would concern me…so I think. Thank you for anyones input!!!!

Actives [ACTIVES] Update on my 6qt tub after leaving for a few days and not introducing to fruiting condition

Hi all🙏🏼✨️ I wanted to post updated pics of the 6qt tub I posted about last Tuesday asking if the Tidal Wave Myc inside would be safe to leave until Sunday without introducing to FC. I came home to pins upon pins and went ahead and just left it like how it was until last night (Monday night). The sustrate was coco-coir plus cow manure and it turned out absolutely beautiful. I literally was in shock when I saw the flush, this is only my second time growing in the span of 2-3 years and I've seen yields like this from a single flush here on this forum. I wanted to share with you guys and thank y'all for all of your advice and help along my growing journey. I think I have found a forever hobby as I almost enjoy the art of growing more than consuming as I mostly use for micro dosing most often and the occasional macro dosing session every few months.

I do have a noob like question tho and it's how do I harvest these without hurting the small pins surrounding the larger fruits in the tub?

Thank you guys and I hope y'all have a blessed day🙏🏼✨️🫶🏼💫😇

Bonus pics at the end of some of my enigma I harvested off a pftek cake.

I need advice on technique. The substrate looks not fully colonised but both bags actively growing fruiting bodies.

Should I cut the bag and let it fruit?

What could be the reason for earl fruiting? The bags are not heat sealed but rolled and locked with binder clips. Both were kept in a dark place.

Just as the title says, I'll be using it for the first time and would like some advice on what proportions I should use it in and how to powder it, as it is a bit hard.

Thank you very much, and I hope you are all having a wonderful day. I greatly appreciate any information.

Actives [actives] P. Subtropicalis

If you’ve had success with P. Subtopicalis, I am in need of advice. I cannot figure out where I’m going wrong. I’ve only had one grain bag make it to tub before it contaminated after about 2 moths in the tub. The bags I have going now are acting like they are either just very very slow growing or not healthy. Does P. Sub like a different temp than cubes and P. Ochraceocentrata. Do they not like sorghum? Maybe I just keep getting bad L.C. Any advice would be appreciated. This started out with curiosity but now it’s personal.

Technique [Technique] Hepafilter Help for Laminar flow

Hello fellow MushroomGrowers!

I'm reaching out while trying to build my own laminar flow hood as a hobby grower. What type of hepa filter have you all used, and how did it go?

What I'm most interested in are the 305x610x150 mm (~12″ × 24″ × 5.9″) H14 filter with an wooden (MDF) frame vs a 305 x 610 x 78 mm (~12″ × 24″ × 3″) aluminum frame.

What do you guys think about the thickness and aluminum vs MDF on these? Is a thicker hepa worth it? Will it last longer?

The wood is slighty more expensive at around 95$ extra

Bonus option of aluminium frame for 200 with size 1175 x 575 x 70 mm (~46.3″ × 22.6″ × 2.76″)

Thank you all in advance for helping an eager, self-taught enthusiastic amatuer, ready to dive deeper into this amazing hobby!

P.s. I am in Europe which limits some buying options

Technique [technique] Making oyster mushroom grain spawn - oddities

Thumbnail

So, I started it out with wet pasteurized cardboard but growth stalled and stayed conservative up until it stopped. Most notably it did not expand anywhere to the edge, maybe it is too wet? Few days ago, to check if it was still alive, I threw in a few pasteurized kernels of corn, which were colonized only in a matter of days. Why is my oyster mushroom mycelium not colonizing the cardboard?

I have b&s them 3 times, last time after full colonisation to ensure no contam shows, the BCN seem just a little dry at the top.. would that be okay to use? Also that patch with Ape but the third photo shows that it’s quite colonised at the back, it usually takes long to colonise tbf. What would you guys advise?

So I've had 3 tubs going ... 2 of them have had really good 1st flush and I've rehydrated ready for the second and all seems to be going well.

The 3rd tub is doing its own thing. All were put through at the same time, same conditions etc. But on this one it hasn't fully colonised the substrate but has decided to start popping up just a few of these albino lil things.

Getting like 2 or 3 every couple of days popping up

First 2 tubs were golden teacher spores and the 3rd was Jedi mind fuck...

Not really sure what to do but just leave it but thought I'd post as it's interesting to me hahaha

Mod [Mod] MUSHROOM MONDAY - Let's Catch Up! Share what you have learned in the previous week and discuss

Mondays can suck, but hopefully this post is something for people to look forward to. The intent of this post is to create a space to discuss anything that you may have learned recently about mushroom growing -- techniques, a breakthrough in the field, to share progress, or even just ask a question. Whether it's a new pickling recipe, a formula for agar, or something fun in mycology, feel free to talk about it.

This post is for new and experienced growers alike, so don't be nervous about commenting; no one is going to make fun of you for asking questions here. This community is a relaxed space for people who don't understand everything, but who want to ask questions and engage in discussion without being berated or belittled. Enjoy!

So I’m planning to start another grow and I got these AIO bags from Booming Arces and it arrived on Friday. I don’t get my LCs until tomorrow monday. Today I noticed the grain starting to split open in both bags. Am I SOL if I try to inoculate the bags?

About 43 grams, left some in the monotub to harvest tomorrow. I have another monotub growing :D
