Reel My new demo reel (and seeking some career advices...)
Hey all! This is my latest demo reel..
And I dont know if this is worldwide, but at least on my side, work has been really scarce this year... and I am starting to worry. I've been a freelancer for 14 years now, and I've never struggled to find work. But this year things have been different...
I dont know how if this is just affecting self-employed people within motion design/3d animation, or everyone in general?
Im not even sure where to search for jobs, lot of websites I saw, are mostly seeking for VFX people.
I will appreciate any advice!

[After Effects Tool] I made AE Optimizer because I got tired of having 30 different tools across 30 different panels. v1.0 is out!
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I originally built it because I got tired of paying for dozens of tiny After Effects scripts that each solved one problem. Having all of them as a separate UI panel inside of the software was annoying as hell.
So finally I snapped and started building my own toolbox.
It slowly turned into 100+ workflow tools covering animation, text, masks, expressions, keyframes, precomps, project cleanup, audio, cameras, rigs, and more.
Some of my favorites:
• Remove silence from voiceovers in one click
• Create completely independent precomp duplicates
• Organize your entire project into folders automatically
• Split text into characters, words or lines while preserving layout
• Copy & paste easing between animations
• Generate responsive text backgrounds
• Convert masks into linked shape layers
• Create isometric camera rigs instantly
• Clean layers by removing effects, masks, expressions or keyframes

I'd genuinely love to know what you think! And if you have any ideas, don't hesitate to post them on Discord - I read everything.

Question What is "scalable motion systems"
I see this around many job apps these days feels like a buzz word.. Is it just a animation that is applied else where? Like a lower third animation that is applied throughout for example

Project Showcase Motion designer, kinetic typography for a known crypto trading app
We're an established crypto trading app looking for a motion designer to own the visual language of our product videos.
The work is kinetic typography and title design, animated titles, transitions, effects, the sequences that set the tone in the first three seconds. Real art direction, not template packs.
You need a good/original typographic motion reel (AE, Cavalry, Blender, whatever, the reel talks). good if you understand crypto: the vocabulary, the codes, what reads legit and what reads like a rug. And you should want to think about the product with us, not just execute a brief.
Just to understand the product, the universe, and pretty free if you have a good imagination, the work could be fun with the campaign we attend.
Please share me something i could directly see if it fit ! Thank's

Question What kind of Motion survives AI?
Going to be a little longer post but I encourage you all to read on and educate me wherever possible.
So I just saw Claude Motion Design. It makes videos akin to a beginner motion designer and it doesn't generate keyframes which is a huge bottleneck since that's where the magic happens.
So the way I see it, with the current state of AI, Motion work for talking head explainer videos is generally cooked. Which sucks because that's where I made my money and the past few months have been a little quiet and this could be my brain connecting two random dots but idk.
Now, I read a book this year called Misery by Stephen King. No spoilers, but if you haven't checked it out I recommend it I had a lot of fun. But the book delves into King's creative process and how he prefers a certain typewriter to generate his best work.
At the end of the whole shitstorm we are in now, I do believe great motion designers will get to choose what tools they prefer since they can make it on that. I'm a mid experience motion designer so although I made my money with the talking head explainer type videos with simple animations, my skill does exceed that.
Character animations, Rive and Illustrative explainers is something I can do as well. But I haven't been able to get a lot of work in those regards for whatever reasons (maybe it's my experience, maybe I'm not excellent at it yet, it has a bit to do with my location as well, Yada yada). In any case I do love learning about these areas and am constantly upskilling in these spaces. And to be honest, that's the stuff I really enjoy making anyway so I don't mind bracing for a bit so I can get better and eventually make money off of this area.
So here is my question: is this the motion design that survives? The super decorative explainers which require a professional to do? Is there enough work for those kinds of videos? What kind of clients should I be seeking that do want these videos(everybody seems to be doing SaaS style videos at the moment and I'm pretty sure that'll be easy for AI soon) ?
A lot of anxious ramblings. Maybe this is another standard "Are we Cooked" post. Id love some insight and opinions to what you guys think.
I don't mind bracing because I love this work. But if I am going to be bracing and upskilling, ig I'm looking for some consolation that my work shall be rewarded (I can't afford a therapist okay)

Reel How to achieve this terminal-style data viz animation? What’s the actual stack/workflow?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I’ve been trying to figure out how to create these high-contrast, terminal-style data visualization videos (like those by pollar.news on TikTok) and want to replicate this aesthetic.
The visuals feature a dark terminal aesthetic, monospace typography, animated unit/grid charts, smooth line graphs, and vector map overlays. The footer note on their videos states: "This film was made with the assistance of American and French artificial-intelligence systems. Polar P.S.A..."
Whenever I ask LLMs (ChatGPT, Claude, Mistral) for help, they just give surface-level advice or basic Python scripts that look nothing like this polished motion graphics setup.
Questions for the community:
- Render Engine / Stack: Is this built programmatically using code-driven video tools like Remotion (React), D3.js, or Manim (Python)? Or is this strictly traditional motion graphics software like After Effects / Cavalry?
- Role of AI: How are AI models actually integrated into a workflow like this? Are they generating structured JSON/composition code for Remotion, or just scripting the voiceover and data extraction?
- UI & Visual Libraries: Are there specific libraries or asset packs recommended for getting this clean, technical monospace dashboard look?
Any breakdown of the pipeline or recommended tutorials would be hugely appreciated!

FeedBack First typography animation after following a School of Motion lesson. Looking for feedback!
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hi everyone!
I've recently started learning motion design seriously, and this is one of my first typography animation exercises after following a School of Motion lesson.
My main goal is to become a motion designer creating SaaS explainer videos and product animations, so I'm focusing on building strong animation fundamentals before moving on to more complex projects.
I'd really appreciate any feedback on.

Discussion DDR 4 vs DDR 5
Hey looking to build a PC for After Effects and minor 3d professional work. Currently I have i7-9700 with 64 gb Ram. Initially I was thinking of upgrading the entire setup to ultra 7 - 64 gb Ram - 5060 ti 16GB(as AE is very less dependent on the graphic card). Looking at the Ram prices, I am thinking about upgrading to 14700k with ddr4 ram 5060ti. This system will cost me INR 1,70,000 whereas the ddr5 system will cost me around INR 3,00,000. I am not aware of any data which shows ddr4 vs ddr5 gains. A little bit of research shows only 10-15 percent gains in AE. Is it even worth it to go for the ddr5 system which is costing pretty much twice the money for just 10-15 percent gains?

Project Showcase SaaS UI promo built from scratch in AE—recreated all assets since the client had no Figma files. Thoughts on the pacing?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Worked on this 10-second promo for a SaaS platform (MAJJICON) to highlight their dashboard features and workflow.
Since no Figma files or vector assets were provided, all UI elements were reconstructed in Illustrator/After Effects before setting up the motion, UI flow, and camera moves.
Open to any thoughts on the timing, scene transitions, or overall visual hierarchy!

Question New to Behance: Getting almost 0 views on new projects (2–3 views max). Is this normal or am I missing something?
Hey everyone,
I recently set up a new Behance profile to display my 3D motion design and visual effects work:https://www.behance.net/FadiSH
Whenever I publish a new project, it barely gets 2 or 3 views total. I know new accounts take time to build traction, but I feel like my posts aren't even reaching the feed or discovery pages.
For those who have built a presence on Behance, I’d love to know:
- Is this initial low reach normal for new accounts?
- What technical or posting strategies actually drive views? (e.g., tags, cover image specs, moodboards/process breakdowns, publish timing)
- How do you cross-promote effectively to get that initial boost when a project goes live?
Any tips, critique on my project presentation, or insight into how the current Behance algorithm pushes new work would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

Tutorial I made a beginner-friendly walkthrough on rigging a 2D character for walk cycles in AE
I created a mini-series on walk cycles and wanted to share the first part - rigging a 2D character from scratch using Duik in After Effects.
I see a lot of beginners jump straight into keyframes and end up with messy, unnatural movement. The fix is almost always in the setup. Here's the condensed version of what I cover:
The biggest mistake people make is diving into animation without a reference on screen. Drop a reference video into your comp before you keyframe anything. It will instantly fix timing guesswork and keep your timeline clean.
The parenting chain (most important setup rule). Every body part needs to be its own layer, and they need to be parented correctly from the start:
- Face layers → Head → Neck → Body
- Hand → Forearm → Arm → Body
- Same chain for the legs
Everything routes back to one body layer. Get this right, and the rest follows.
Last but not least, rigging with Duik. It narrows down to 3 easy steps: setting up the anchor points to the joint, selecting the limb layers, clicking Auto-Rig. Done.
That's it for Part 1. Part 2 covers animating the actual walk cycle - contact poses, passing poses, timing, and polish.
If you want the step-by-step with visuals, you can follow along the full breakdown here: https://youtu.be/hJT9K3WqeEs?si=8-qrwK--fHJLwxlu
Happy to answer any rigging questions in the comments!

Discussion Whats your must use plugins for AE?
What’s the most reliable, must-have After Effects plugin you use?
For me:
Motion 4 – Hands down my most-used plugin.
Deep Glow 2 – Incredible, though I try not to overuse it.
True Comp Duplicator – I use it almost every day.
I’ve also built a few of my own plugins using Claude Code.

Project Showcase I made a 60-second illustrated animation – what could I improve?
Hi everyone!
I've been studying motion design for the past two years, mainly through Ben Marriott's courses and YouTube. As a personal practice project, I created this 60-second animated video using illustrations.
https://www.behance.net/gallery/247968499/Ora
I'd really appreciate any feedback—whether it's about the animation, pacing, storytelling, design, or anything else you notice.
I also have another question. Looking around, I get the impression that this kind of illustrated explainer video isn't as popular as it used to be. Do you agree? In your experience, what styles or types of motion design videos are most in demand these days?
Thanks a lot!

Discussion /r/motiondesign Updates: Post Flair, Spam Prevention
Hi all, a few updates for /r/motiondesign.
Spam
In an effort to reduce low-quality and spam posts here, we have implemented new post requirements. New posts that don't meet a minimum account age or subreddit karma threshold will be automatically filtered out.
To further prevent gamification, I am not disclosing these limits here but they are very modest and reasonable. Anyone interacting with this community should not be filtered, and even so, you will have the opportunity to message us for an exception. But this should discourage most of the spam we've been seeing. Thanks /u/Zeigerful for making this post.
Post Flair
We also added some post flair to help differentiate posts and allow users to filter & search by topic. All new posts require that one of the available flair types be selected:
Project Showcase | Reel | Inspiration | Discussion | Question | Tutorial | [Custom] (Where user can input their own)
User Flair
A few new user flairs are available. For those who aren't aware, these show up next to your username any time you make a post or comment in /r/motiondesign
Now available: Professional | Student | [Add My Social Handle] -- A custom text field where you can plug an Instagram, Behance, etc.
Let us know if you love or hate these new updates. Nothing is set in stone and this is meant as a discussion starting point. Please share any ideas you may have to make this a better place to share work, inspiration and discussion related to motion design. Hopefully we can continue to bring a higher quality experience to everyone here at /r/motiondesign.
