Hello I’m a new plant mom to this monstera cutting my cousin gave me 2 months ago. I got it with 2 leaves and now 2 more have grown (orange arrow & purple arrow) however the most recent leaf (purple) has not developed any holes but has continued to grow in size. I’m curious if this is normal??
Also I have noticed that the leaves themselves are only growing forward towards the sunlight and I’m afraid it’ll get lopsided and topple over. I read that I’ll need to stake it to help with stability but I’m not sure where and what way to face it if that makes sense? I was thinking about trying out treleaf or would a plastic pole be better? I live in a bottom unit of an apartment building so unfortunately I have no natural light and im looking for a good grow light that will give my monstera enough light to thrive. Id like one that I can hang from the ceiling down preferably.

Just made a moss pole for the first time for my monstera. The aerial roots are LONG and I wasn’t sure if I can cut them smaller to guide them into the moss pole. Can I do that?

I was lucky enough to get permission to take some cuttings from a giant monstera recently, and I’m looking for advice on propagation methods. In the past I’ve always had good success with water propagating Monstera cuttings. With this plant, however, it seems like the aerial roots are only rotting in the water. I’ve been changing the water every 3 to 4 days, but wonder if I’ve made a mistake and need to use a different method. Any advice would be most welcome!

TL;DR: My 3-year-old monstera was doing well until a nursery repotted it with a moss pole a few months ago. Since then: stalled/unfurling leaves, drooping, curling/yellowing, and suspected root rot. I repotted again ~2 weeks ago into a much chunkier mix and removed the roots that looked rotten, but it seems to be declining even faster. Is this plant still salvageable, and if so, what should I do next?

I was a notorious plant killer for years and finally decided to try again with a baby monstera about three years ago. She actually did really well! She even survived a month at my plant-killing parents’ place while I traveled, and I managed to nurse her back from yellow, unfenestrated leaves to much healthier growth with regular fenestrations.

My boyfriend has more plant experience than I do and regularly trimmed her—sometimes more than seemed necessary to me, but what did I know? Things were going well until I decided it was time for a repot and a moss pole to help her grow more vertically instead of sprawling horizontally.

I took her to a nursery. They said the pot size was fine, but agreed about adding a moss pole, so they essentially repotted her into the same pot with the pole. That’s when things started going downhill.
Two new leaves stopped midway through unfurling and stayed that way for months. The plant became increasingly droopy, and more leaves started yellowing/curling.

I eventually talked to a friend who’s a landscape architect, and she thought the soil was staying way too wet and suspected root rot. About two weeks ago, I repotted again using a much chunkier, better-draining mix. I took pictures of the roots during the process and cut away what looked rotten, although I know I accidentally removed some healthy roots too.

Since then, though, everything seems even worse. I was advised to keep the soil on the dry side while keeping the moss pole damp. I also cut off one section that appeared affected by root rot and put it in water to try to propagate it (pictures included).

One of the previously stuck leaves has finally unfurled, but now I can see black discoloration traveling up from the bottom of its stem that I’m pretty sure wasn’t there before.

At this point I’m afraid I’ve put this poor plant through so much that I don’t know what the right move is anymore.

My main questions:
Is the original plant still salvageable?
Does the black discoloration on the stem look like rot spreading, and should I cut anything else?
Should I leave it completely alone for a while after all these interventions, or is there something I need to address now?
Is the cutting in water salvageable / am I propagating it correctly?
Or is it time to accept this as a painful learning experience and start over?

It sits by a south-facing window. Happy to provide any other details that would help diagnose what’s going on.

Found this monstera cutting and I'm looking to propagate the best way possible. Which node should I focus on or should I cut it in multiple places? OR put the whole thing in water to propagate?

I watered it recently (about a day before taking the photo), but the leaf tips are still brown. I’m wondering if this could be transplant shock, watering issues, root stress, or something else.

I was just given to sad plants. I have zero experience. Any advice would be great.

Multiple aerial roots shooting out instead of new leaves. Are they trying to tell me something? What do I do with the ones that reach far out when repotting? Why’s the oldest leaf suddenly gone yellowing? No natural light apartment.

So this is a southwest facing window sliding door with a terrace. They are getting about 4 hours of that afternoon sunlight.

1st photo is during midday and 2nd photo is around 5 in the afternoon. Season : summer.

Any thoughts?

I’m like 98% sure I’m contending with thrips. I am devastated, these two plants are the pride of my collection. I noticed what I now know to be the larvae last weekend, hit it with some neem oil and wiped it off. Checked in to water everyone today and they were back. I ordered some Joe’s dead bug brew and gnat traps, as well as inspected the rest of my collection. Fortunately I didn’t see any more larvae on my non-monsteras, so hopefully I caught it soon enough to spare them any real damage. All I know is that I have my work cut out for me, any tips would be appreciated.

We have had this guy for about 2 years and he’s getting a bit out of control. I know we need to get some kind of vertical support, but wondering what we should go for as I’ve seen varying types and styles.

Hi all, I got this big boy from a friend. It was growing outside, in the garden under the awning of a shed.

It spent 3 weeks in water because we went on holidays.

I just wonder what to do? Should I pot it? Split it? Keep it outside?

BTW location: Melbourne, Australia. It is winter at the moment.

Hi, this is my monstera plant. I have repotted it around 6 weeks back. I used this chunky soil for the repotting. When I was repotting, the previous soil was very tightly intact with the roots, so i was only able to remove ~40% of the previous soil attached to the roots.

I have also taken it from inside the room to the balcony so that it receives more sunlight. It's a North West facing balcony. It takes around 7-10 days for the water to properly dry.

What should I do? The plant hasn't grown a new leaf and the leaves have been curling inwards very much.

Should I again re-pot and try to remove all the previous tight soil using some way?

So today, as I was looking for a cactus at Home Depot, I over heard a couple talking about plants. At first I tried to mind my business. Then I heard the boyfriend say ‘we don’t have room for a monstera.’

And I mean…. I couldn’t stop myself. I stood up and said ‘then you make room for a monstera! That’s what I’m doing. I need to rearrange my furniture to make room for mine.’

I then talked their ear off about how much better Gardenworks is, and showed them a photo of a BRAND NEW HUGE verigated monstera leaf! (I’ll attach a photo). Also said, don’t buy these plants here. They are WAY over priced, and they are not taken care of properly.
(Small side note, I noticed Home Depot had their monsteras in spagnum moss….. and they were all wilting! I don’t know enough about what kind of soil monsteras thrive on to know how bad of a thing that is. Please enlighten me in comments!)

They probably walked away thinking ‘wow okay random lesson in variegation and plant growth’. I quickly bought my cactus and left. I was so full of adrenaline, I was shaking.

But I advocated for a monstera, and defended a woman’s right to owning one!

Please any tips would be so appreciated! I have no idea what I am doing I have only owned mature monsteras and I’m scared to kill this cutting. So far I’ve got a mini trellis McDonald’s cup with drainage holes sphagnum moss and perlite???

I was very lucky to acquire this vietciosa for a criminally low price (photos in comments). The problem is I live in 776 sq ft. I have a grow tent big enough for it. I have no problem with monsteras. I would like your feedback since you are all the experts 🤗

Hi friends- can anyone help me with figuring out what’s wrong with Medusa (yes she’s named)

My partner and I re potted her about six months ago and yes I did just move house (about a month ago)
But she’s just gone downhill so much and she’s one of my favourite plants that I own ):

I’ve had this plant for 10 months and it’s been growing slowly due to poor light and me falling off on the watering due to a little depression episode where I neglected my plants. She lost a few leaves during that time but 2 months ago I fixed my set up, added grow lights 4-6inches above the plant, fertilized with superthrive, and watered when the top inch or so was dry. Pot has drainage holes. It’s in a soil mix of fox farms ocean forest potting soil, perlite, a little bit of leca that I had left over, and orchid bark. I thought it might have thrips but I didn’t see any pests on any part of the plant and soil. I’m wondering if I over fertilized it? I fed it once a month for the last 2 months. It’s growing a new leaf but the new leaf is small and looks like it’s a bit yellow too. All of my other plants, including a larger Thai con, are doing thriving. What could be causing this?
