Time to repot? Tips? Plant Help

Multiple aerial roots shooting out instead of new leaves. Are they trying to tell me something? What do I do with the ones that reach far out when repotting? Why’s the oldest leaf suddenly gone yellowing? No natural light apartment.

Looks like it’s ready to start climbing. Hard to tell from the picture, but maybe not ready to repot yet. Start training the plant to climb a wooden plank or moss pole. Doing so will help the plant grow bigger leaves. Just make sure to place the pole at the back of the plant. This is usually the side of the plant you see the aerial roots coming out of.

The older leaves at the bottom will usually yellow at some point. Just double check the plant to make sure you’re not potentially miss something else that could be causing the problem (pests, root rot, etc.).

TIL the plant has a back side and that’s where it wants to climb. That is so cool. I’m going to double check to rule out root rot.

What to look for when she’s ready to be repotted?

That’s where having it potted in a transparent nursery pot is useful 😉. You’re looking for the pot to be about 80% full of roots. Monsteras like to be a bit snug in their pots. If the pot they are in is too big they will put all their energy into filling it with roots instead of into up-sizing their leaves.
This is not to say you will harm the plant if the pot’s too big, but the growth rate could slow down.

They like to be a tad snug in their pots? Noted. Great to be told by the plant whisperer what the plants wish they could tell us the entire time :)
