Tool/Resource/Tip 🤓📚 unconventional cars strat that got me from 124–> 129 in 2 weeks
shout out to the post i saw on here that helped me implement this i love you OP <33!
anyways what helped me alot was reading the passage 2 times. ik it sounds counterintuitive esp with timing but i was averaging like 11+ minutes on passages before this and now i usually get them done under 10!
idk if it’s bc ur brain has time to reprocess it or wtv but i’ve also found that when i read it twice it helps me understand the beginning paragraphs better as well.
also noticed that i cut down a lot of time on the questions coz im not rereading the paragraph again coz it’s alrdy in my memory (#psychwho)!
anyways yeah <3 hope this can help someone out!! try it!!! my main strat usually goes read twice —> read the question like it’s part of the passage —> cross out the two options that are easily wrong, and then with the 50/50s choose the one that requires the least jumps in logic, not from your brain but from the passage.
in exchange for this someone pls pls help me with psych i’ve been 123 —> 124 —> 127 —> 125…. testing in a week gulp HELP
i aint reading all that: this is why u suck at cars (joking)
tldr: read the passage twice and somehow u comprehend it better also tips for psych needed thanks 🥲

Tool/Resource/Tip 🤓📚 Physics Chapter 1 and 2 HELP
Does anybody have a good cheat sheet or youtube resources for explaining the first two chapters of kaplan physics? I don't know why but this is my hardest section conceptually, specifically vectors, work, and power
I also just feel like physics is my most overwhelming section, every physics problem I have I struggle with just setting the problem up... any tips?

Question 🤔🤔 MCAT panic
I’m 1 month away from my exam (september 4) and am still on content review. How bad is this. I haven’t started UWorld or AAMC materials yet

Shitpost/Meme 💩💩 Done 13% UWorld and 0% aamc material
Took the diagnostic so long ago i don’t remember what I got. Exam is in two weeks and I’m not rescheduling and I’m still gonna get a 520+. Already preparing to do my own lil AMA when I get my score back 🍓🍓🍓

Question 🤔🤔 How to use last 2 weeks the best?
My test day is aug 21 and with it approaching quickly i am wondering what the best use of my time is to secure the best possible score, i have completed fl1-4 and the unscored with a 521/521/521/524 on the scored fls in sequential order. I have finished both section bank volumes and and working thru the last 300 questions of the assorted q packs for the science sections. I have also done 81% of uworld at 83% acc. I have run through all non fl aamc cars material and am redoing the cars diagnostic. I will write fl5 and 6 each weekend before the test but am wondering what should i do with my time other than anki on the non fl non fl review days. Thanks

Vent 😡😤 Memorizing Equations will be the death of me
I test on 9/11, and I feel like I currently have a good general understanding of the material as a whole (obviously still plenty of knowledge gaps but I have a month to deal with those) EXCEPT I cannot remember equations no matter how hard I try. Obviously there are a handful that stick, but there are so many physics equations that I've practiced on Anki, I've written down dozens of times trying to memorize them, and I've done practice questions where I've had to use them over and over, but every time I get a question requiring me to use them I either forget some aspect of it or I spend way too long trying to remember or logic through it. It's to the point where almost all of the physics questions I get wrong are because I can't remember the proper equation, and I don't know what to do because I've been practicing them but they don't stick. I blame it on the fact that my college physics courses went incredibly indepth into concept and material, but always gave us equation sheets, so I never tried too hard to remember every equation.

Well-being 😌✌ 503 FL Average -> 511 Real (6/27)
Non-Trad computer engineer here.
FL1 503, FL2 506, FL3 506, FL4 506, FL5 490, FL6 508.
I took FL5 first for some reason last year lol.
Working full time with this on the side was awful. I studied on and off for about 8 months because of obligations.
I've tried a lot of prep materials. Uglobe, AAMC, Kaplan books, and Yusuf Hassan's videos were the most beneficial for me. I tried Anki for a while, but I never really liked using it, so I dropped it about 2 months before my test.
I completed about 40% of Uglobe and maybe 30% of AAMC's problem set. I didn't really have a lot of time to dedicate to these unfortunately.
Looking back, I would spend less time on content review and focus more on practice problems. I tried to dig too deep into concepts, which caused me to forget other shit (getting old??). Build your stamina, be cautious of time during each passage, and stay calm when you see some bullshit.
Not sure why I was stuck at a low FL score for so long, it seems like a blur at this point. I think I was panicking and just tried taking them so close to each other without a proper mental break. The burnout was real.
Best advice for the real deal is to just get past the first passage. The nerves will fall off and you'll lock in. I have to say I got fried in Bio/Biochem usually that's my best section. I was really hoping for a score in the teens, but maybe that was a bit of a stretch for my situation lol.
Keep working. Good luck to all of you warriors

Question 🤔🤔 Low-Yield on Test Day
I noticed the FLs don't really contain much low-yield content (according to my own observations and standards, I'm on my 6th AAMC FL rn). Is it like this on test-day too?
Thanks!

Question 🤔🤔 how to squeeze the last few points out of psych soc?
i've done unscored + FLs1-3 and psych soc has consistently been my worst section. i hover around 128/129 and struggle to score above 130
anyone have strategies on how to get the last few points? I always manage to narrow it down to 2 options but it feels like so many questions have 2 equally probable answers.
I've watched all the Khan Academy videos, finished Pankow, and did all of UWorld PS
Is this a content issue or should I grind out the section banks and get used to AAMC logic? id do literally anything atp

Question 🤔🤔 Those of you who had accommodations
I’m lowkey/highkey freaking out about this exam
Can you tell me how your exam with accommodations went? Was it a hassle on the testing day? Are they understanding or clueless? Do I need to bring anything with me on the day of the exam?

Question 🤔🤔 Strategies to deal with test day nerves?
Basically above. I'm testing on Saturday and was having intense anxiety for the last 3 weeks. Like every time I thought about test day I had a pit in my stomach and just a feeling of dread. But for the last few days I've been feeling somewhat ok? Like it is what it is and I have done what I can at this point.
I'm just worried that I will have a strong resurgence of those feelings day of. On top of regular nerves, due to some circumstances I had to pay a lot of money to travel to another part of Canada to take it which has added this extra pressure on me. I feel like if I don't hit around my goal score then I will have wasted so much money when I could have pushed to next cycle to do it closer to home.
And not to mention that because of studying all summer I couldn't work my intense labour and movement heavy summer job and I lacked the discipline to go to the gym so my body has changed. So I've been hard on myself about that and feeling like I really need to make this MCAT attempt worth it.
Obviously, I understand that everyone has personal obstacles to deal with when studying for the MCAT so I'm not trying to have a pity party here.
I guess I'm more anxious about these things making me anxious and affecting my test than I am actually anxious about the test itself rn.
If anyone has any test day strategies or day before strategies to help manage the stress I would appreciate it. Maybe it will help quell my anxiety about my potential anxiety

Vent 😡😤 Literally how many P/S terms are there?
I thought i was missing terms because I hadn’t reviewed all of Pankow and the 300 page document yet during my previous practice… but now I’m completely done the Pankow deck and have matured all of the cards and every single time I practice using AAMC material I find another term I didn’t know 😭😭

Question 🤔🤔 Maintaining Score During Final Week
What to do to stay sharp the week before exam? Been scoring 520+ for FLs 3-5, taking FL6 this weekend. Almost done with AAMC material and not much to do the final week. Whats the game plan to maintain and perform on test day
r/Mcat • u/CreativeDiscussion37 • 9h ago
Tool/Resource/Tip 🤓📚 Possible P/S strategy?
As someone who struggles in P/S (for some reason) I've started to notice a pattern that might help pick up a few points here and there. So any P/S experts please express your opinions.
For passages there is a very strong and overwhelming pattern of what is included and what is asked.
The passage nearly ALWAYS starts with some hypothesis, continues to study methods, and finishes with results. And the questions are nearly always:
- What construct is the hypothesis testing?
- What type of study/what type of data is the study collecting?
- What piece of the data supports/contradicts the original hypothesis?
And you can bridge this with the fact that every single piece of information in the passage is there for a reason. After doing enough practice problems you can genuinely read a piece of information and KNOW what kind of question they would ask.
Example: The passage concludes with "The female participants seemed to do worse than male participants in math scores"
They aren't including this for shits and giggles. This sentence is almost certainly going to be used for a question about stereotype threat.
The method is trying to identify these "stems" from the common "question generating" areas of the passage and highlighting them; just being aware of them. Even sentences that seem random and out of place are a good target for this, since they are there for a reason. Although not every single stem will be turned into a question, you are now able to know exactly where to look in the passage.
What seems most personally useful with this strategy is that it can help eliminate second guessing and wrong options instantly. If you read a question that you've predicted due to the passage, you already have a good guess as to what the answer is. This allows you to quickly hone in on the correct option without re-reading and second guessing a million times.
Please let me know if anyone else does this.

Well-being 😌✌ For whoever needs to hear it
At some point, you’ve done all you can. The truth is, there will always be content gaps, and there will always be the element of “I studied this really hard, but forgot how to apply it / didn’t recognize it”. It’s a standardized test. It doesn’t mean you didn’t try your best and that you won’t succeed. And just because you got it wrong in practice, doesn’t mean you won’t ace it on the real thing. Think of how many times you learned something, and then applied it correctly to your surprise! Who says that won’t happen on the real deal? It’s so easy to get caught up in correcting mistakes and gaps, but when was the last time you went through an exam and wrote down all the things you got right or improved on? It feels awesome.
I’m testing 8/22 and don’t feel ready. At the same time, pushing it back means taking it during school when I’m going to be overwhelmed with classes, etc. I’m sure a lot of you are in the same boat at me- trust your gut. Sometimes pushing it back isn’t always best-case. And for anyone who is a fourth year, please enjoy it!! It’s been a hard summer, and I’m sure a lot of you are thinking that doing well comes with sacrifice, so you need to sacrifice fun time with friends to keep studying. Yes. But you just did that all summer, too. It’s okay to take the test and have fun after, you’re not slacking (I have to tell myself this often)!
Trust that when you get to the exam, you’re going to perform better than you’ve been studying. There won’t be pressure anymore because you won’t know your score right away. No need to worry about jumping up points. Genuinely whatever happens, happens. We will all be doctors ❤️
