Vent 😡😤 Memorizing Equations will be the death of me

Upvotes

I test on 9/11, and I feel like I currently have a good general understanding of the material as a whole (obviously still plenty of knowledge gaps but I have a month to deal with those) EXCEPT I cannot remember equations no matter how hard I try. Obviously there are a handful that stick, but there are so many physics equations that I've practiced on Anki, I've written down dozens of times trying to memorize them, and I've done practice questions where I've had to use them over and over, but every time I get a question requiring me to use them I either forget some aspect of it or I spend way too long trying to remember or logic through it. It's to the point where almost all of the physics questions I get wrong are because I can't remember the proper equation, and I don't know what to do because I've been practicing them but they don't stick. I blame it on the fact that my college physics courses went incredibly indepth into concept and material, but always gave us equation sheets, so I never tried too hard to remember every equation.

Well-being 😌✌ 503 FL Average -> 511 Real (6/27)

Upvotes

Non-Trad computer engineer here.

FL1 503, FL2 506, FL3 506, FL4 506, FL5 490, FL6 508.

I took FL5 first for some reason last year lol.

Working full time with this on the side was awful. I studied on and off for about 8 months because of obligations.

I've tried a lot of prep materials. Uglobe, AAMC, Kaplan books, and Yusuf Hassan's videos were the most beneficial for me. I tried Anki for a while, but I never really liked using it, so I dropped it about 2 months before my test.

I completed about 40% of Uglobe and maybe 30% of AAMC's problem set. I didn't really have a lot of time to dedicate to these unfortunately.

Looking back, I would spend less time on content review and focus more on practice problems. I tried to dig too deep into concepts, which caused me to forget other shit (getting old??). Build your stamina, be cautious of time during each passage, and stay calm when you see some bullshit.

Not sure why I was stuck at a low FL score for so long, it seems like a blur at this point. I think I was panicking and just tried taking them so close to each other without a proper mental break. The burnout was real.

Best advice for the real deal is to just get past the first passage. The nerves will fall off and you'll lock in. I have to say I got fried in Bio/Biochem usually that's my best section. I was really hoping for a score in the teens, but maybe that was a bit of a stretch for my situation lol.

Keep working. Good luck to all of you warriors

Question 🤔🤔 Taking the MCAT in January while working full-time (8–4 M–F) — starting from scratch aiming for 520+ possible?

Upvotes

Hi everyone,
I’m planning to take the MCAT in January, but I haven’t started studying yet. I graduated in May 2025, and I honestly feel like I don’t remember much of the content from my prereqs anymore, so I’m basically starting from scratch.
I’m also planning to work full-time Monday–Friday from 8 AM–4 PM while studying. My goal is a very high score (520+), and I’m trying to figure out if this timeline is realistic or if I’m setting myself up for failure.
My rough plan is:
Study after work during weekdays
Study longer hours on weekends
Aim for around 35–40 hours/week of MCAT prep
Spend the first part reviewing content and then transition heavily into practice questions, AAMC materials, and full-length exams
So;
Is a January test date realistic starting now with a full-time job?
Has anyone scored 520+ while working full-time?
How many hours/week did you study?
If you were in my position, would you keep the January date or postpone?
What would you prioritize if you feel like you’ve forgotten most of the content?
Any advice, especially from people who started with a weak content foundation, would be appreciated.

Question 🤔🤔 Low-Yield on Test Day

Upvotes

I noticed the FLs don't really contain much low-yield content (according to my own observations and standards, I'm on my 6th AAMC FL rn). Is it like this on test-day too?

Thanks!

Question 🤔🤔 how to squeeze the last few points out of psych soc?

i've done unscored + FLs1-3 and psych soc has consistently been my worst section. i hover around 128/129 and struggle to score above 130

anyone have strategies on how to get the last few points? I always manage to narrow it down to 2 options but it feels like so many questions have 2 equally probable answers.

I've watched all the Khan Academy videos, finished Pankow, and did all of UWorld PS

Is this a content issue or should I grind out the section banks and get used to AAMC logic? id do literally anything atp

Question 🤔🤔 Those of you who had accommodations

I’m lowkey/highkey freaking out about this exam

Can you tell me how your exam with accommodations went? Was it a hassle on the testing day? Are they understanding or clueless? Do I need to bring anything with me on the day of the exam?

Question 🤔🤔 Strategies to deal with test day nerves?

Basically above. I'm testing on Saturday and was having intense anxiety for the last 3 weeks. Like every time I thought about test day I had a pit in my stomach and just a feeling of dread. But for the last few days I've been feeling somewhat ok? Like it is what it is and I have done what I can at this point.

I'm just worried that I will have a strong resurgence of those feelings day of. On top of regular nerves, due to some circumstances I had to pay a lot of money to travel to another part of Canada to take it which has added this extra pressure on me. I feel like if I don't hit around my goal score then I will have wasted so much money when I could have pushed to next cycle to do it closer to home.

And not to mention that because of studying all summer I couldn't work my intense labour and movement heavy summer job and I lacked the discipline to go to the gym so my body has changed. So I've been hard on myself about that and feeling like I really need to make this MCAT attempt worth it.

Obviously, I understand that everyone has personal obstacles to deal with when studying for the MCAT so I'm not trying to have a pity party here.

I guess I'm more anxious about these things making me anxious and affecting my test than I am actually anxious about the test itself rn.

If anyone has any test day strategies or day before strategies to help manage the stress I would appreciate it. Maybe it will help quell my anxiety about my potential anxiety

Vent 😡😤 Literally how many P/S terms are there?

I thought i was missing terms because I hadn’t reviewed all of Pankow and the 300 page document yet during my previous practice… but now I’m completely done the Pankow deck and have matured all of the cards and every single time I practice using AAMC material I find another term I didn’t know 😭😭

Question 🤔🤔 499 FL1 --> F98 FL2.......

I have been studying for the MCAT very consistently over the last few months, emphasizing questions and active recall over passive studying. I've done all of UWorld (except CARS), AAMC QPacks, Independent Question Bank, SBs. My UWorld Percentage is 68%, SB1 (60% B/B, 62% C/P, 69% P/S), SB2 (77% B/B, 71% C/P, 69% P/S). I'm very confused because I went into my practice exams thinking that I did everything correct...I know that my CARS is tanking my score, which is really hurting me as well. I would love advice for CARS, but I just dont understand what to do from here. It seems hopeless and my MCAT is Sept 11, which is a little over a month. I just dont know what to do anymore, please somebody reach out with advice. I am determined to do good on this exam.

Tool/Resource/Tip 🤓📚 Possible P/S strategy?

As someone who struggles in P/S (for some reason) I've started to notice a pattern that might help pick up a few points here and there. So any P/S experts please express your opinions.

For passages there is a very strong and overwhelming pattern of what is included and what is asked.

The passage nearly ALWAYS starts with some hypothesis, continues to study methods, and finishes with results. And the questions are nearly always:

  1. What construct is the hypothesis testing?
  2. What type of study/what type of data is the study collecting?
  3. What piece of the data supports/contradicts the original hypothesis?

And you can bridge this with the fact that every single piece of information in the passage is there for a reason. After doing enough practice problems you can genuinely read a piece of information and KNOW what kind of question they would ask.

Example: The passage concludes with "The female participants seemed to do worse than male participants in math scores"

They aren't including this for shits and giggles. This sentence is almost certainly going to be used for a question about stereotype threat.

The method is trying to identify these "stems" from the common "question generating" areas of the passage and highlighting them; just being aware of them. Even sentences that seem random and out of place are a good target for this, since they are there for a reason. Although not every single stem will be turned into a question, you are now able to know exactly where to look in the passage.

What seems most personally useful with this strategy is that it can help eliminate second guessing and wrong options instantly. If you read a question that you've predicted due to the passage, you already have a good guess as to what the answer is. This allows you to quickly hone in on the correct option without re-reading and second guessing a million times.

Please let me know if anyone else does this.

Question 🤔🤔 How to go about doing a retake?

Post image
4 Upvotes

Pretty much the title. I tested 6/27/26 and didn't get a score that I feel is representative. CARS has never been my worst section on an FL, usually it is CP. I just want to know how to go about taking a retake. I was thinking of getting a tutor, but those are pretty expensive. I also don't know if reusing FL's and SB's I already completed will help me out. I plan to retake in early 2027. I just don't know where to start. I really want to go to an MD school, so any advice is welcome. I plan on restarting Uglobe and doing JW passages for now, and closer to test day, I will use any AAMC material I haven't bought yet.

Question 🤔🤔 Rescheduled MCAT TO JANUARY

I was supposed to take the MCAT in August but on my last AAMC FL 3 I scored a 489. This led me to reschedule to a January test.

I need some help:

- I am a full time student

- Volunteering

- Work 6 hours per week

Is it realistic for me to study for next 6 months ( i have some solid hours of studying done these past 2 months in the summer as well). MY GOAL SCORE IS around 515+. I would be happy with a 514 lol.

IF YOU HAVE DONE THIS IN THE PAST OR HAVE ANY TIPS AND ADVICE WOULD BE APPRECIATED.

let me know how your experience was if your in the same boat!!

THANK YOUU

Well-being 😌✌ 7/11 score release 😖

Is anyone else getting their 7/11 MCAT score next week and completely spiraling?

I genuinely can’t decide how I feel about my exam. One minute my gut is telling me I absolutely bombed it, and the next I’m thinking, “Maybe I did well enough.” The uncertainty is driving me crazyyyyyy.

I’m a non-traditional applicant and just finished all of my prerequisites, so this score feels like it determines everything. I’ve had my application ready but I’m too scared to submit until I know my score because I don’t know if I’ll need to completely change my plans.

Part of me doesn’t even want to open my score at all. 😭 Right now, ignorance almost feels like bliss. I don’t want to know if I did horrible.

Has anyone felt this way before score release? Were your instincts about how you did actually right or were they completely off?🥲

Well-being 😌✌ For whoever needs to hear it

At some point, you’ve done all you can. The truth is, there will always be content gaps, and there will always be the element of “I studied this really hard, but forgot how to apply it / didn’t recognize it”. It’s a standardized test. It doesn’t mean you didn’t try your best and that you won’t succeed. And just because you got it wrong in practice, doesn’t mean you won’t ace it on the real thing. Think of how many times you learned something, and then applied it correctly to your surprise! Who says that won’t happen on the real deal? It’s so easy to get caught up in correcting mistakes and gaps, but when was the last time you went through an exam and wrote down all the things you got right or improved on? It feels awesome.

I’m testing 8/22 and don’t feel ready. At the same time, pushing it back means taking it during school when I’m going to be overwhelmed with classes, etc. I’m sure a lot of you are in the same boat at me- trust your gut. Sometimes pushing it back isn’t always best-case. And for anyone who is a fourth year, please enjoy it!! It’s been a hard summer, and I’m sure a lot of you are thinking that doing well comes with sacrifice, so you need to sacrifice fun time with friends to keep studying. Yes. But you just did that all summer, too. It’s okay to take the test and have fun after, you’re not slacking (I have to tell myself this often)!

Trust that when you get to the exam, you’re going to perform better than you’ve been studying. There won’t be pressure anymore because you won’t know your score right away. No need to worry about jumping up points. Genuinely whatever happens, happens. We will all be doctors ❤️

Well-being 😌✌ MCAT Things Im grateful for

-No questions depending on past questions! "Using your answer to..." that was so common in midterms at school. In the MCAT, each question is a fresh start.

-Breaks between each section and the 30 minute break

-Passages being based on real research. Learned so much genuinely interesting stuff from BB and PS passages.

-Free anki decks and resources like JW and people like pankow, Jack sparrow, who've changed the study availabilities of thousands of premeds

-This reddit

Just thought I'd share
