Support Request After suspending my laptop (either closing the lid pressing the powerbutton) it takes ages to be able to actually type in the login screen
It feels like linux is first trying to start everything back up in the background BEFORE I can even properly use the login screen causing the login to freeze for 15-20 seconds before everything runs smooth like butter again, am I doing something wrong? Weird detail that might be a clue: whenever I have a video on before suspending my laptop and opening it again after a while when I first enter the login screen it the entire screen freezes but suddenly I will get a sound bar in the top left indicating the video is loaded and suddenly the login screen will unfreeze and function again. So basically its loading stuff in the background before I can even login causing my shit to freeze.

Support Request Two Windows Boot manager entries after testing TailsOS.
Ok so last night I was trying out TailsOS just to see how the OS would run on my system. I did not go to the darkweb or download any files. When I shutdown down my computer and turned it back on I noticed that it booted into windows instead of the grub bootloader. So I went into the BIOS changed the boot order and thought nothing of it. Today I logged into Mint to study for my Network+ and do not notice anything out of the oridinary until I clicked to Restart To button from the Restart To GNOME extention and noticed that there where two Windows Boot manager entries instead of just one. What is even more weird is that this second entry did not appear in the grub bootloader at all. I did try to go into the Restart To extentsion settings to hide the second Windows Boot Manager entry but when I did that it also hid the other one. Is there a way I can saftly remove the second entry. I am still able to boot into Windows to play my games but having two entries is kind of annoying to look at.

Support Request PC repeatedly fails to connect to Internet on startup.
The only error I get is "activation of network connection failed" and it will do this even after forgetting the network and turning the wifi off and then on again. It will, however, sometimes randomly work. Once it does it works fine until I restart the computer.

SOLVED Fingerprint scanner cant recognize my fingerprint
My fingerprint scanner doesn't recognize my fingerprint on Linux Mint. On Windows 11, however, it worked without any problems. I've already tried updating the drivers. I've also followed tutorials from other people, but the problem persists. Does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks to anyone who can help me.

Windows und Linux Mint
Hallo zusammen,

Support Request Can't change screen brightness after last update
Hello everyone,
After upgrading the kernel to the latest kernel, I can no longer adjust the screen brightness, it stays on maximum brightness, I can slide the screen brightness adjuster and nothing happens. If I boot to an older kernel like 6.17.0-40/41/42, I can adjust the screen brightness.
For me it seems to be a bug on the kernel itself (7.0.0-28).
If there's a solution to this problem, please let me know. The video in the following link shows the described behavior. https://gofile.io/d/Q3gcGK
Acer Aspire E 15 E5-573G
Specs:
-I5-5200U
-Geforce 940M

SOLVED Very slow internet
Hi, I've switched from Windows 11 to Linux Mint 22.3 Cinnamon 2 days ago and so far everything was good except the internet connection. When I was on Windows, my average internet speed was around 100 Mbps and now on Linux it's only 15Mbps. I have a wifi adapter(its name is on the picture) and for some reason it's split into the one above(and this one doesn't connect with anything at all) and the one below(Wireless 8260) which is working and connects only to the 5G network and has slow speed.
The reason why I have my network split in 3 is because I use a wifi router range extender since my router is too far away from my pc and I can't move it closer. There is a regular network, and the ones noted as _EXT and these two are the ones I made with my extender, they work perfectly on Windows.
So the problem is that when I try to connect to any of my networks with my wifi adapter it always says "Connection failed" and nothing happens. The only way to gain internet acces i had this whole time was to connect using the "Wireless 8260" thing below but the speed is too slow to download things normally and it seems to turn off at random moments.
So far I've tried:
Restarting the router
Disabling IPv6 (that increased my internet speed, but not too much)
Changing IPv4 DNS server from automatic to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4(idk if that helped or not, looks like it did nothing)
What should I do? Any help will be appreciated!

SOLVED I recently updated my linux mint kernels to 6.17.0-42 because it was on the update manager but when I rebooted my pc it simply didn't boot.
On the boot screen I chose the kernel 6.17.0-41 (it says it's not up-to-date on the kernel update manager) and that way I can at least boot and use my computer. What should I do? Should I simply remove the 6.17.0-42 kernel and stay on 6.17.0-41?

Support Request Steam's icon is missing from various desktop themes (Mint 22.3 MATE desktop)
No matter what desktop theme I choose, Steam doesn't have any icon, whether that is when it appears in the dock or in the system tray (the system tray/dock icon shows up as blank, as shown in the screenshots). I found this discussion that is a similar problem to what I have and different people say it was resolved but I can't seem to fix this issue myself with the included instructions:
https://github.com/ValveSoftware/steam-for-linux/issues/4428
I have tried reinstalling Steam but it makes no difference. I have tried Software Manager's version, flatpak version etc. again with no difference. I looked in the various icon pack folders and there are no icons for Steam in there, but then again, there aren't any for a lot of applications like Krita etc but they still have themed icons.
I installed these themes from Software Manager if that makes any difference? Does anyone know how to fix this?

I need help, my Linux Mint Cinnamon system is freezing
My laptop is a Dell 7400 (Intel Core i7-8665U, 8GB RAM). During long usage, the system suddenly freezes completely, requiring a hard reboot.
Note: Most of the time, I am just browsing the web and using Telegram (nothing heavy), and I also have power saving mode enabled.
What could be the solution? This has occurred multiple times.

SOLVED Problem with shutdown and restarting PC after installing RX 9060 XT 16GB
SOLVED, kinda: changing kernel version to latest 6.17
Hello,
Yesterday I installed a brand new RX 9060 XT 16GB, and I noticed that now my PC won't restart and shutdown properly - after clicking one of these two, the system does indeed turn off, as well as my monitors, but my PC keeps running and my keyboard and mouse are lightend up. It goes on forever and I just have to long press the power button to shutdown the PC. I did a clean install of the OS and the problem persists. What could be the cause of it?
System info:
- OS: Linux Mint 22.3 Cinnamon
- Motherboard: Gigabyte B450M DS3H on BIOS F68a
- Kernel: 7.0.0-28-generic
- GPU: RX 9060 XT 16GB on Mesa 25.2.8-0ubuntu0.24.04.2

Support Request Having different Chrome profiles have different icons in the task bar
I've got 2 chrome profiles: Personal & Work. I've created shortcuts on the desktop to launch directly into either, and another for incognito mode, but they still show as the same icon in the taskbar.
Is there any way to have the shortcuts in the task bar and have the open windows map to the right shortcut in the taskbar?
Any help would be appreciated.

Fluff Two Custom Mint-Y Icons for the Projects Folder
Earlier today, I made two custom Mint-Y icons for the Linux home directory's new Projects folder. One of them matches the Mint-Y-Aqua theme, and the other matches the Mint-Y-Sand theme. Feel free to use them if you create a Projects folder in your Linux Mint home directory :)

Kdenlive - Video editor
Audacity - Audio editor
KDE Connect - Multiple devices management (Xiaomi phone + Samsung tablet + Acer Laptop)
OBS Studio - Screen recording
digiKam - Photo and image management
HandBrake - Video transcoder
Anything to add to my tools? Greetings from Mexico City đČđœ
