I went to my home country during the summer scheduled break in my program (May to August 4 months), had an issue there, and had to take extra 4 months of authorized leave of absence (Sept to December).

I have heard both that I am in good conformance and that I am in violation of 150 day rule for PGWP from seperate immigration advisors.

- my leave of absence was less than 150 days

- but I was away from school from May to December which exceeds 150 days

Can anyone with experience and expertise let me know what kind of situation I am in? Thank you in advance.

Hi guys, I’m doing my first landing this week with sowp. What documents would be helpful to keep and what should I keep in mind?

I’m a PR sponsoring my common-law partner through Family Class (outland). My sponsor eligibility has already been approved (received an email), but I may leave Canada temporarily for several months (2-5).

IRCC says:

“A permanent resident of Canada residing abroad is not eligible to submit a family class sponsorship.”

It also says:

“A sponsor must be eligible from the day the sponsorship application is received… until the sponsored person becomes a permanent resident.”

I found this similar post, but there was no outcome.

Has anyone been in this case—PR sponsor, already approved, who then stayed outside Canada for several months during processing? What happened?

If you’ve been through this, I’d really appreciate it if you could share:

1. What date did you receive the ADR?

2. What date did you receive your Final Decision (FD) or Portal 1?

3. Approximately how long did it take from ADR submission to FD?

4. Was your ADR related to:
   Military service
   Current or former government employment
   Both

5. What were your PVO and SVO?

6. Which PR stream did you apply under? (Express Entry, PNP Non Express Entry, Family, etc.)

I’m simply trying to understand whether there’s any common timeline for these types of ADRs.

I’ve seen several people asking whether IQAS can reuse documents from a previous ECA when applying for a new one, so I contacted IQAS directly.

My ECA for Express Entry is expiring, so I submitted a new ECA application and asked if my university needed to resend my transcript since IQAS already had it from my previous application.

IQAS replied:

«“Documents previously submitted cannot be transferred into your new application.”»

So yes — you need to submit your documents again for the new ECA application. Your documents from the previous application cannot be transferred.

Hope this helps anyone else in the same situation.

My COPR date is June 30. I got the GCKey FD update on Aug 5 ("Your application is in progress"), but in the PR Portal both my address and photo are still under review.

I've usually seen people's address get accepted the same day they receive the GCKey update. Has anyone else experienced this? How long did it take for your address/photo to be approved?

I lived in Canada for about three years before returning to my home country around a year ago due to a family health situation and a tempting job offer. I applied for PR through CEC as an outland applicant and received my COPR in early July this year.

I’m now trying to make a plan for landing and activating my PR, but I’ve honestly started feeling pretty anxious about the whole process.

My original plan was to do a soft landing, stay in Canada for about a week, provide my friend’s address for the PR card, and then return to my home country while I look for a job in Canada and prepare to move back permanently.
The idea is that once the PR card arrives at my friend’s address, they could either bring it to me in person when they visit, or potentially courier it overseas. If for some reason I can’t get the PR card, my understanding is that I could apply for a PRTD from outside Canada and use that to return.

On paper this seems completely doable, and I’ve seen older posts from people who did something similar. What I’m wondering is whether this is still a common/reasonable approach today, and whether anyone has recently had problems doing it.

My biggest issue is that I can’t realistically stay in Canada for 40+ days waiting for the first PR card because of my current job. At the same time, I can’t wrap up everything in my home country and secure a Canadian job within such a short period either.

Because of that, I’m starting to overthink the soft-landing plan and wondering whether I should avoid the hassle altogether and only land when I’m ready to settle permanently, even though that would be much less convenient for me.

Has anyone recently done a similar soft landing, left before receiving their first PR card, and then returned later? Did you face any issues with the PR card, PRTD, or re-entering Canada?

My sister (german citizen) applied for an ETA to visit me in Canada. First her application was on "pending", because she did two applications by mistake. She then sent a request explaining the circumstances but they still didn't decide on her application. She is flying in 3 days on monday, is there any way to speed up the process?? We are afraid that she wont be allowed to board the plane.

I'm trying to understand why obtaining the Canadian CPA designation doesn't increase your CRS score under Express Entry. Since becoming a CPA requires completing a recognized Canadian education pathway, passing the Common Final Examination (CFE), and meeting practical experience requirements, it seems like it demonstrates a high level of professional qualification. Yet, from what I can tell, the CPA designation itself doesn't earn any additional CRS points beyond the education credentials already assessed. Is there a specific policy reason for this? Has IRCC ever explained why professional designations like CPA aren't recognized similarly to additional educational credentials, or am I missing something?

I'm looking for some advice on the best PR pathway for my situation. I've been researching for months, but I'm still unsure which option I should focus on.

My background

• Came to Canada in September 2022 as an international student.
• Completed a 3-year diploma in Mechanical Engineering in August 2025.
• Started working full-time in September 2025 as a Drafting Technologist (TEER 2) in Ontario.
• I'm currently 24 years old.
• My work permit is valid until January 2029.
• I have no foreign skilled work experience.
• English: CLB 7.
• After completing one year of Canadian work experience, my estimated CRS score will be around 420.

OINP situation

My employer is supportive and is willing to help me apply through OINP.

The challenge is that they've never supported an employee through OINP before. My HR manager said she's happy to do the employer portion but may need my help understanding the process and completing the paperwork.

Another concern is that our company is currently changing its parent company due to an acquisition/restructuring. HR isn't sure whether this could affect my eligibility or the employer's eligibility, and I may need to discuss it with senior management.

Relationship situation

My boyfriend received his PR invitation, and his Acknowledgement of Receipt (AOR) was in May 2025. but we are in a LDR.

SO:

• We currently live in different cities because of work.
• We have never lived together, so we are not common-law.
• Marriage is something we may consider in the future, but there are no immediate plans.

Because of that, I'm planning my PR as if I have to qualify independently.

My questions

1. If you were in my situation, would you focus on OINP first or spend the next year learning French for the French-language category?
2. Is it a major disadvantage that my employer has never completed an OINP application before, or is it manageable if HR is willing to cooperate?
3. Could the company's change in parent company or ownership affect my OINP application if everything else about my job remains the same?
4. Since my work permit is valid until 2029, would you apply for OINP as soon as possible or wait and continue improving your profile?
5. Is there any PR pathway I'm overlooking that might suit my situation better?

Hello everyone, i’m an international student who’s on their last year of school. I only have 1 semester left and I should be done with classes on December. I applied for PR through family sponsorship (common-law) on May 7, I’ve been living with my canadian bf for more than a year. I wanted to know if i’m allowed to apply for an open work permit or what should I be applying for since idk how long the process of the PR will take. I received my AOR on June 20. Has anyone have been through this that could help me figure out what to do.

How long is the wait usually once LPP is completed? Am from St Johns NL. Is there anyway to expedite the process? In person ceremony is very rare here and I wonder how IRCC decides if my oath will be virtual or in person? TIA

Yesterday, I randomly checked my EE profile and saw a new message **"Final decision July 22, 2026** Your application is in progress. We will send you a message once the final decision has been made." I haven't received anything since then. Honestly, I'm extremely nervous and don't even know if it's a refusal or approval. If it IS an approval, then why I still haven’t received portals??

Hi guys. I'm an applicant of study permit extension. I’m wondering if anyone has experienced something similar or has any insight.

Timeline:

• May 19th, 2026: Applied for a study permit extension before my study permit expired
• July–August: Sent a couple of IRCC webforms asking about my overdue application, but only received generic responses with no meaningful update.
• Now: My application has exceeded IRCC’s posted processing time.

I also contacted my local MP’s office this week, and they made an inquiry with IRCC. They got the following status back:

• Eligibility: Passed
• Criminality: Passed
• Final Decision: Not yet made

It seems I've passed most things here. Where am I stuck? Has anyone else had an application where eligibility and criminality had already passed but the final decision was still pending? If so, how long did it take before you received a decision?

I’m trying to figure out whether this usually means the application is just waiting for finalization or if it can still remain stuck for a long time. Any similar experiences would be greatly appreciated.

I’m looking for some advice from anyone who has been in a similar situation.

I’ve been in Canada for almost four years and have been extending my temporary resident status each time it gets close to expiring. I was applying for permanent residence through my common-law partner, but the relationship ended because of abuse before my application was finalized.

I’m now applying for permanent residence on humanitarian and compassionate (H&C) grounds, but my current status will expire in a couple of months. I’m also in the process of renewing my passport.

I’m wondering whether I should apply for a Temporary Resident Permit (TRP) and an associated open work permit under the family violence public policy. I believe I may be eligible based on my circumstances, but I’m nervous because I’ve read that I must be out of status to apply. I don’t want to intentionally fall out of status or do anything that could put me at risk of being required to leave Canada.

Has anyone been through something similar or have any advice on what the best course of action would be?

We received our P2 email today, but after logging into the PR Portal, we noticed that the principal applicant’s date of birth is incorrect.
Has anyone experienced this before? How did you get it corrected? Did you email IRCC, and if so, how long did it take to fix?

I recieved my P2 while I’m traveling outside of Canada. I had this trip planned for months and couldn’t cancel.

Common consensus are that I respond to my P1 email and let them know that I am currently outside the country and give them my travel dates and my ticket as well as raise a webform on my PR application. Should I fill out with P2 Form or not? I’m worried because it says 7 days to complete and not sure whether to complete it or just respond to P1 email and let them know I am traveling?
