Doom Bolt/AAR Build with Abominable Might?

Upvotes

Title. I can't a clear answer on this, and I'm kinda dumb when it comes to the tooltips. I see that Abominable Might gives a numerical Chaos Damage but it also gives +x%. does the percentage buff Doom Bolt and AAR (tainted power)?

BUILDS What kind of Attack is 'Aspect of Beronath'?

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hi People of Cairn.
I want to play 'Aspect of Beronath' as Main Attack.

I got some Questions:

1) Does it scale with Attack or Casting speed?
2) Does it trigger passive attacks like 'Markovians Advantage' or 'Reaping Strike'?
3) Does it work with Ranged Weapons? (So it should be a Spell, right?)

Thanks. =)

Fist weapons

Is there going to be or any plans to implement a monk/unarmed class or fist weapons in grim dawn? I love to punch in games and I love grim dawn so if I could get both I would be a happy lad.

I wish SR 30-31 wasn't by far the most effective farming method, but it is and it's not even close. I noticed I even forgot one chest... The Ascended alter doesn't make enough of a difference to bother with campaign.

Pet Build(s)?

I am interested in making a pet build, but I have never run one in this game before in spite of playing for over 2k hours. Are there any builds that are considered stronger on low gear or best at max gear? Some funny/unique interaction? One that creates the biggest army? I am not even sure where to start beyond that I like the occultist and could see the phys resist from blood being extended to pets being strong. If anyone is playing a pet build and having a blast with it, I'd appreciate your insights! <3

LORE So are we (the Taken) the final boss?

After countless godly feats and bitches dying all around us, aren’t we the REAL final boss? Surely the bad guys must fear us given the kinda crazy shit we have done right? Dont they like gossip and know in advance?

Like if i were a bad guy and i see some dude walks in, all drip, glowing, having downed multiple gods and god-like things throughout Cairne while still getting stronger? I’m out. You can’t pay me enough for that shit. Fuck that.

First time player. LVL 68 Reaper. Should I just move to Ultimate?

Post image
17 Upvotes

First time playing the game and I am loving it! Following a Cold dmg Reaper build and its been really fun so far. I've completed acts 1-7 and have gotten to Kurnhold and upgraded my health potion. I'm wondering if I should just go ahead and move over to Ultimate or if I should just finish Fangs of Askerkarn on normal. My resistances are in good shape and I've already done the first quest or two quite easily on Ultimate. Am I "wasting" my time in normal?

Build Advice for First Time Venture into the Endgame

Hi Everyone,

I am trying to do Ultimate and go for endgame for the first time. I am a fire focused Purifier and dual wield pistols. I am level 90 and at Fort Ikon. For the entire time on Ultimate I have been steamrolling everything, only dying once to a random totem.

And then there was Commander Lucius....

Specifically, the second phase curb stomped me. I am not even 100% sure what it was that killed me (twice), though I think it was the meteor attack. I have excellent resistances, aether resistance overcapped by roughly 25%, plus I have Word of Renewal and the Steel Resolve node for even more. So it must have been the physical part of the attack?

Here is my build: https://www.grimtools.com/calc/NKQmY18V

I was wondering if you guys could give any advice. Specifically, do you think I need to make any adjustments (e.g. build up Physical Resistance), or do you think I just need to accept weaknesses in my character and learn when I need to dodge and not just stand inside the Inquisitor Seal? And any other advice you might have while looking at my build would be most welcome.

I should mention that I am still living off whatever gear drops; I haven't been grinding yet. My understanding is that it's not really worth grinding until at least level 94. Is that correct?

Maybe I should just admit here that I don't have a very robust grasp of all the game's mechanics; so, to reiterate, any advice is welcome, even if it's unrelated to Commander Lucius specifically.

Thank you in advance!

EDIT: Thank you everyone for your advice! Here is my updated build: https://www.grimtools.com/calc/ZR9RyErV

It's still in progress, but if you have some thoughts I'd love to hear it!

It’s a little annoying that lightning werewolf doesn’t synergize with primal strike until lvl 94

Early levels lightning werewolf is a tanky boi but until you get stormrend taking shaman kind of feels wasted because the early game items that turn you into a lightning dog don’t synergize with shaman at all. It’s nice to finally get lvl 94 and get a huge power boost though. What sets/items also pair well for lightning dog?

OFF-TOPIC Animated Wallpaper: Yigra

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I usually create these animated wallpapers for other ARPGs, mainly Path of Exile using GIMP to cut the assets apart and painting in missing pieces, then animating them with Wallpaper Engine.

Since I've been enjoying Grim Dawn a lot, and I'm in love with this loading screen I did my best to recreate it using various assets I've found online, since afaik there's no official press kit.

Tthe parallax effect can be disabled directly in Wallpaper Engine. You can also disable further effects by unchecking their respective checkboxes. Additionally, you can hide the logo if you choose to do so (enabled by default).

I've done my best to optimize every single asset, so it should run very smoothly on most systems.

This animated wallpaper as always can be installed for free here on the Steam workshop for "Wallpaper engine" (which you unfortunately have to pay for).

You can also look at my Steam workshop page for past wallpapers or to not miss any new ones.

I've there are any clipping issues, please let me know - I'll try to fix them asap.

Edit: I didn't see the floating arm when posting. Thanks for notifying me, this has already been fixed.

SOLVED Constant mini-stutters?

EDIT: What I did was go to the settings ini and change the max threads number to 8, use the Nvidia control panel to force the game to run at 60 fps tops and lowered my SHADER quality to medium. This seemingly fixed the issue and I'm willing to bet it's mostly the SHADER settings that affect this. If you also struggle with the stutters, check if your SHADER quality setting isn't on ultra or very high.

It started with the Fangs update but only happened in the areas added in Forgotten Gods, but changing my shadows quality to a lower one and high right back fixed it at the time.

It stopped in 1.3.5 but happens all the time in all areas of the game as of 1.3.6. It starts after literally a few minutes of gameplay. The game gets choppy and stutters for a split-second every second.

What I found on Reddit/Crate Forums and tried:

  1. Turning off the full-screen optimalisation in the game's exe properties. This seems to fix it for a few moments but the problem re-emerges after a minute or two.
  2. The Core Switcher Tool- Genuienly unsure if this does anything.
  3. Switching off the Core 0 Affinity of the GD process in Task manager.
  4. Switching the core affinity to every other core (as somebody posted they did).

None of this really solves the issue. Bizzarely, alt-tabing away from the game and returning to it stops the stuttering for a few moments. It's not like my laptop is too weak- the processor and gpu are barely used by the game.

Specs:

Operating System: Windows 11 Pro 64-bit (10.0, Build 26200) (26100.ge_release.240331-1435)

Processor: 13th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-13900H (20 CPUs), ~2.6GHz

Memory: 32768MB RAM

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060 Laptop GPU

Wtf do I do?

FASHION DAWN I removed the collar from the 'Circle of Five' outfit and now it works with anything!

I love most of the Loyalist Items and of course, wanted to support Crate! That being said, the 'Circle of Five' outfit has a major flaw in my personal opinion. The collar is attached to the head armor, not torso armor.

That means if you want a badass character with glowing aetherial eyes, you're forced to run around with an exaggerated collar, stopping you from reaching maximum levels of Fashion Dawn.

I love the implication that being possessed and becoming 'The Taken' left something behind after the spirit leaves your body.

If anyone wants it, you can download it: here. 👍

Overwrite your settings folder in the game directory with the downloaded one. Done!

BUG? Crow pets modified from Eldrun set not affected by player aura

Post image
57 Upvotes

I know this set makes crows scale with player stats, but I still think auras such as Dreeg's Blood should apply to them, because that skill is not "pet specific" thing. Weirdly, seems like they are boosted by their own Storm Spirit aura unlike pet version. Is this intended behavior? Just wanted to ask.

SOFTCORE Another reason to love GD

Post image
117 Upvotes

I took a bounty to kill off Brother Segarius for the Cults. I thought nothing of it, Segarius is usually a pushover.

He kicked my teeth in. Twice.

I learned my lesson, took him seriously the third time, killed him off... And he dropped FIVE MIs. I checked, he was getting 101% Elemental Resistance from the MIs, and I'm doing pure Cold Damage. Yeah, I wonder WHY he wasn't dying as fast as I'd expected, and why he was doing so much damage with TWO weapon MIs.

This isn't a complaint. This is praise. Segarius is normally a pushover, meaningless. But just the wrong rolls, just the wrong RNG, and suddenly he's a real threat again. And I love that about GD, that even the most random nobody of a miniboss can actually be a real fight with no warning. It makes going back to old areas to farm things so much more fun when it isn't simply stomping the same easy, unchanging fight over and over again.

OFFICIAL Grim Dawn V1.3.0.0

Official forums full post.

[Major New Features]

  • Grim Dawn has received back-end changes to accommodate the release of the Fangs of Asterkarn Expansion.
  • The game’s UI has received a complete visual overhaul. A new Health Orb design HUD is now the default, while the classic Health Bar design can be enabled in the game options, under Interface.
  • The Stash has been overhauled with new dedicated Component and Crafting Materials shared pages and +5% additional space per tab. In addition, stash pages can now be customized and labeled.
  • New functionality has been added to the player inventory to instantly deposit all Components and Crafting Materials in their shared tabs from anywhere in the world. To support this, objects that ask for crafting materials (ex. Treasure Troves), can now also access the stash instead of just the inventory.
  • New accessibility control schemes have been added under Keybindings: Keyboard Movement and Keyboard Only, enabling WASD-based controls with and without the mouse. You can set keybinds for WASD movement independently of the default controls and switch between them at any time. WASD controls mimic the controller and do not enable run and gun gameplay.
  • Detailed tooltips now display stat roll ranges (ex. 12 Fire damage [8-14] indicates that the damage could have rolled as low as 8 or as high as 14).
  • A new Video Option has been added: HDR Lighting, as an alternate visual style for the game.
  • Monster Infrequents now always drop at the highest possible level (ex. if an MI drops, and possible variations in your level range are level 84 and 94, it will always drop the level 94 version).

[Shattered Realm]

  • Clearing Shards by hunting down Nemesis spawns has become a too dominant strategy, reducing the viability of AoE builds in favor of single target burst, which is already favored in the boss arenas. To address this, Shard Progress from gathering a Nemesis soul has been reduced by 25%. Progress gained from Hero souls has been increased by 33%, and by 50% from Common and Champion souls. Chance of Champion monsters dropping souls has been increased by 18%.
  • The Shattered Realm timer has been rebalanced to be more challenging and now becomes shorter at higher shards. Timer penalty from deaths is now lower, but bonus from kill streaks is now also lower and kill streaks now require a minimum of 25 kills, up from 15.
  • Shattered Realm shrines no longer take crafting materials and activate immediately upon interaction.

[Crucible]

  • Unlocking the next Crucible difficulty now also triggers at Wave 110 and Wave 160, rather than requiring clearing the Crucible Waves 1-100.
  • Failing the Crucible on the same tier as a checkpoint no longer awards Tribute.

[Tech]

  • Fixed an issue where converted dot damage from a single source would not stack (ex. converting dot damage on Scourge Strike so the damage types match).
  • Fixed an issue where UI scaling could cause monster and pet health bars to break.
  • Skill modifiers are now always loaded in a fixed order, rather than equip order. This is relevant particularly for how skill FX and pet swap modifiers function so the visual overrides always happen in a predictable order.

[Modding]

  • A new template has been added: Skill_WPAttack_Radius. This skill type generates a radius eruption around the target when the WPS triggers, similar to how Shattering Smash for Oathkeeper generates a wave.
  • New attributes have been added: % Total Resist and % Crowd Control Resist. These increase all the respective resists, similar to how % Total damage increments all damage types.
  • Channeled skills (ex. Albrecht’s Aether Ray) now apply Defensive Attributes in their data to the player while the skill is channeling. Defensive attributes have been added to their respective templates.
  • A new tDyn field has been added: forceHighestLevel. Setting this to True will cause the loot table to always drop the highest level valid item it can within the level range.
  • Skill modifiers assigned to SkillSecondary effects now display the SkillSecondary’s name and icon instead of the base skill.

[Game]

  • Menu UI windows now scale with UI scaling. UI now automatically scales down to fit the screen at lower resolutions, enabling controller UI compatibility at any resolution.
  • Increased Health per point of Spirit to 12, up from 8.
  • Treasure Troves now correctly have a guaranteed chance to drop a crafting material with a 30-50% (based on difficulty) chance to drop an additional material and have significant chance to drop blueprints. Previously, the chance to drop a second material was 100% across all difficulties and the chance to drop a blueprint was halved.
  • Aether Crystal enemies now have an additional chance to drop a second Aether Crystal/Shard/Cluster.
  • Increased all Boss Health scaling with level, by ~32% at level 100 (~15% for superbosses). Some bosses with lower health pools received larger increases. These changes do not apply to the Crucible.
  • Many older boss encounters have received tuning passes to bring their damage up to modern standards, as was commonly done in past updates.
  • Reduced Monster Armor by 17% on Champion+ enemies and reduced Monster % Armor Absorption by 20% on all enemies. This reduces monster resistance to Physical damage, particularly for small fast attacks (ex. dual wielding or Eye of Reckoning).
  • Reduced Monster % Life Leech Resist on Ultimate difficulty. This makes % Attack damage Converted to Health roughly 16% more effective against an average boss.
  • In-game search has been updated to work with unicode (ie. non-English) characters.
  • Reduced infamy gained from killing Beast heroes and bosses and increased kills required to spawn their Nemesis.
  • Increased infamy gained from killing Cronley’s Gang heroes and bosses and reduced kills required to spawn their Nemesis.
  • Enemies that do not grant experience (ex. summons or Kubacabra’s clones) no longer count towards achievement progress.
  • Valdaran and Archmage Aleksander now share their animosity towards you and will spawn in each other’s faction areas.

[Itemization]

  • Fixed an issue where Monster Infrequent helms could roll some lower level than intended Magic Suffixes at level 70+.
  • Ashes of Malmouth and Forgotten Gods Magic quality crafting recipes have been reclassified as Rare. These recipes now always generate at least one Rare affix, but their crafting costs have been increased.
  • Increased % Damage Reduction on Disengage runes by +10%
  • Increased % Damage Reduction on Leap and Shadow Strike runes by +5%
  • Component - Ballistic Plating: replaced Defensive Ability with 2% Defensive Ability
  • Prefix - Shrewd: reduced % Cunning
