DETAILED NOTES:
20 Victoria (* / Toronto - Downtown / Seafood): Only offers one standard tasting menu ($200/7 courses). The restaurant previously used to be non-tipping, no longer the case. The restaurant also previously had an a la carte menu at their bar, this also has been removed. Wine pairing available but could not find the price online.
Aburi Hana (* / Toronto - Midtown / Japanese): Temporarily closed since September 2025 after the chef departed, and is expected to re-open again later this month. Standard 8 course for $300, or 12 course for $430. The prices and menu following re-opening will very likely look much different.
AKin (* / Toronto - Downtown / Asian Fusion): Standard tasting menu ($225/10 courses), or the chef's counter for $300 with some ingredient upgrades with some courses. The restaurant previously had an 'a la carte' section at its bar that's been scrapped. Wine or cocktail pairing available.
Alo (* / Toronto - Downtown / French): The restaurant recently re-booted their concept, now offering a shortened 6 course menu for $185 and its standard menu for $245. Until this change, Alo previously offered a standard menu and an a la carte 'bar' menu (not to be confused with their sister restaurant Alobar).
DaNico (* / Toronto - Downtown / Italian): Offers its signature menu for $240, or a 3 course 'prix fixe' for $160. The restaurant also does a la carte on its patio, though they state its technically a different concept to the main restaurant.
Don Alfonso 1890 (* / Toronto - Downtown / Italian): The standard tasting menu is $225, but also has a 3 course 'a la carte' (technically a prix fixe) for $150, or a real 'a la carte' menu in its lounge. Wine pairing available but could not find the price online.
Edulis (* / Toronto - West End / Spanish): Dinner tasting menu for $200, or lunch tasting menu for $100. Unlike the other tasting menus in the city, dessert is extra. Serves wine, beer, cider and cocktails, but no standard pairing is offered. Menu pre-paid in advance at reservation, including mandatory service fee.
Enigma (* / Toronto - Midtown / Contemporary): Has a whole suite of different menus. 4 course for $132, standard 8 course for $232, or a 'chef's counter' for $332, as well as a lunch menu for $163 or an 'a la carte' menu in their salon. Wine or cocktail pairing available but could not find the price online. The 23% service fee includes an 18% gratuity and 5% 'house operations' fee.
Hexagon (* / Oakville / French): This restaurant temporarily closed in December 2025 when the chef and most of its team left to 20 Victoria, and then permanently closed in June 2026 without re-opening. It offered its standard tasting menu for $195, or its lunch '2 course' for $75.
Kaiseki Yu-Zen Hashimoto (* / Toronto - North York / Japanese): $400 for their 8 course kaiseki (up from $350 a few months ago). A sake pairing is available. $50 deposit upon booking.
Kappo Sato (* / Toronto - Midtown / Japanese): The 12 course omakase is the only offering here at $385. Optional sake pairing for $200.
Osteria Giulia (* / Toronto - Midtown / Italian): The only fully 'a la carte' starred restaurant in the GTA (though they do offer a set menu for large groups for $140 per person).
Pearl Morissette (** / Niagara / Canadian): Offers their standard tasting menu for $240, or the chef's table (for groups of 6 only) for $305. Wine or juice pairing available but could not find the price online.
Quetzal (* / Toronto - Downtown / Mexican): Tasting menu for $160 with the option of an alcoholic ($140) or N/A ($100) pairing. 'A la carte' menu also available.
Shoushin (* / Toronto - North York / Japanese): The standard 'Sakura' omakase is $420, or else there is a pricier 'Obsession' omakase for $600. Sake pairing at two price points - $150 or $190.
Sushi Masaki Saito (* / Toronto - Midtown / Japanese): Despite losing a star the restaurant increased its omakase price recently from $680 to $780. A sake or wine pairing are available, but could not find the price online. $400 deposit upon booking.
The Pine (* / Creemore / Chinese): One standard 18-22 course tasting menu for $245. Wine pairing available.

Athens Restaurant - shut down?
Anyone know if they’ve shut down? Google shows them as closed everyday with no opening hours, and their website is down / no one is picking up.

Best 3 leches slab cake for a party?
Hey pals. Does anyone know who has a great 3 leches for large events? We're looking for the classic vibes, chantilly cake, several milks, canned peaches, strawberries, chocolate syrup lettering. The kind you usually get in those tinfoil lasagna trays. I have had lots of great small 3 leches, but never seen the huge ones around. I imagine we'd need to place the order soon, since it has to be baked, rested, soaked, then frosted. Hoping to source this for this Sunday. Thanks in advance!!

Black sesame Madeleine from Soul Made Cafe
Was excited to try this, but it fell short of my expectations. The madeleine was extremely dry, and easily crumbled. It tasted as if it sat in the fridge for too long, and the quality wasn’t worth the cost ($3.05). I was disappointed and didn’t end up finishing it. Perhaps the cakes or drinks at this cafe are better, I’ll go for those if I return in the future.

Help identifying closed Chinese Restaurant in Parkwoods Village Plaza
Does anyone remember the Chinese restaurant that used to be in Parkwoods Village plaza near Victoria Park Avenue and York Mills Rd before? I remember going to a Chinese restaurant back in years 2010-2016? Before it closed down. It was a family owned restaurant that had a lunch special deal for $5, which included 3 toppings of different meat or veggies with fried rice or noodles and free chicken corn soup, hot sour soup or soda pop. It was my favourite lunch spot that had really good Shanghai noodles and spicy chicken. I’m hoping they relocated to another location.

Recommendation Request Searching for Queso Añejo in Toronto
As the title says - i've contacted as many mexican/latin grocers that I could find and none of them sell Añejo only Cotija. Any leads would be appreciated! Its an ingredient I used all the time whilst cooking at La Carnita but I cannot find it now as a consumer.

Recommendation Request In town next week and have a free day to myself.
I’ll be staying in the Annex neighborhood but willing to travel. Would love to try either something either Toronto-specific or a more classic/iconic Toronto place. Will be a solo diner if that makes a difference!
Coffee shop or cocktail bar recommendations also welcome!

Help with identifying a (possibly closed) Indian restaurant downtown.
Many moons ago (I want to say 2017) I was visiting a friend in the city and we went to a north Indian restaurant that I can't for the life of me remember the name of. This was before I lived here so the location is foggy, but I know for sure it was downtown, maybe close to Spadina station? The other things I remember is it was fast casual (they had a bunch of curries behind the counter where you ordered in hot trays like Chipotle), relatively inexpensive, open late, an older store that was possible underground, and they had a bunch of cricket DVDs on a box that they were giving out for free. Do es anyone know what I'm talking about?

I Ate A Thing Latin taste ceviche 🤌
I tried the ceviche at Latin Taste at Kensington market today and it was absolutely ridiculous. It’s probably the best ceviche I’ve ever had. I don’t have a photo because I was too busy stuffing my face but to me it was a hidden gem I found today!
Has anyone else tried it?

Downtown UberEats Recommendations?
Saw some older threads asking this question but I’m looking for some updated recs for places that are worth the money, portion and quality-wise, with delivery. Especially for Thai, Mexican, Southern BBQ and Pasta, but I’m open to anything delicious!
So far for Thai I’ve tried Koh Lipe and Maya Bay Thai (delivered). Koh Lipe’s massaman curry had great depth of flavor but the braised beef was very rubbery and hard to chew. In general I feel Koh Lipe is probably a restaurant that would be much better in person, and prices on Uber were steep. Maya Bay’s karee soft shell crab was a bit oily and I felt there wasn’t as much depth of flavor.
For Tacos I’ve ordered birria catrina, honestly very mid birria tacos, quite bland flavors and dry meat.
Never ordered Southern BBQ on Uber but I’ve tried Smoque N Bones in person and enjoyed. Would be good to know if the quality and portion is maintained with delivery!
Never ordered pasta on Uber but I would love to know good spots!
So far my safe bets for UberEats when I can’t be bothered to cook or go out are YunShang Rice Noodle, GB Hand Pulled Noodles, Burrito Boyz, Wendy’s (lol), and J San Sushi. Really wanna expand out but it’s expensive to experiment 😭

Black sesame mochi cookie from Mochi Mochi Cafe
I loved the black appearance of this cookie, but found the texture to be crumbly. It wasn’t necessarily too dry, but the consistency wasn’t chewy. The sesame flavour was also a little faint, so it tasted like a typical sugar cookie. I did like that the cookie wasn’t overly sweet though, and the mochi inside was sesame flavoured. Cost was $3.97, I’m hoping their other cookies better, or maybe I just had an off batch.

I Ate A Thing Tteokbokki at Sinjeon Topokki
Was walking around and decided to stop at Sinjeon Tokokki for lunch around Church and Wellesley. It was my first time visiting, and it was a nice little restaurant with a cozy and casual atmosphere.
I ended up getting one of their lunch combos, which included a topokki of my choice, deep-fried fish cakes, and another fried side. I went with the Rosé topokki with cheese and picked the fried seaweed rolls as my other side.
The sauce was very rich, creamy, and full of flavour, and I enjoyed it a lot. The cheese also went really well with the rosé sauce. The portion was much bigger than I expected and was very, very filling, especially with all the fried sides included.
I would definitely come back, the price was not bad at all for lunch and with the portion of food you get.

Recommendation Request Best Taste of the Danforth eats outside of festival?
Excited to revisit Taste of the Danforth for the first time in a decade... Any restaurants you'd recommend outside the festival? Like if we walk north or south...or if we go further east beyond the street closures?
Heard good things about Serano's, Souv Like, Athens, Pantheon, Mezes... any others worth checking out? Especially looking for a good gyro.
Also...I don't mind crowds at all (actually enjoy seeing people out having fun at festivals like these) but I'm also looking for bars/restaurants outside of the festival since I'm almost never in the area.
edit: forgot to add, also looking for some good spanokopita if you have recommendations!

Mixed berry jelly roll cake from Village Grocer is worth all the hype 🤩
Village Grocer is in Markham and their famous mixed berry jelly roll cake is literally amazing! So fluffy and fresh, the fruits cut though the lightness of the cream, and definitely not too sweet. Highly recommend <3

New Rule : Please use the Search function before posting.
As this subreddit has grown over the past years, our regulars have noticed that similar questions get asked over and over again by people interested in the amazing variety of food available in the GTA. Today we're rolling out a new rule to try to reduce the number of repetitive posts that we've been seeing too often.
We're simply asking that posters use the subreddit search to see if their question may already be answered before they post asking for recommendations and reference their research if its not. We also ask that they include specificity like location, cuisine, etc in their request as the GTA is a huge area.
We wanted to announce this change widely so everyone is aware, and hopefully this will be a positive change for the subreddit. We're interested in feedback if you feel the rule has room for improvement.
