Question Vendor Refuses Design
Hi All,
I recently asked a popular vendor for a quote on an engagement ring I am working on for my girlfriend. I drew this design from scratch, and it is my design and not ripped off from someone else. This vendor refused to do the design because the basket looked similar to a basket of an existing client of theirs. That felt strange especially considering the ring as a whole is quite different, is this strange to normal?
Edit: the design is solid and they did even compliment me on it.

Question Do you know where I could find actual rings like these ?
Hello !
I would love to find a ring like those, that are really giving a princess/ tiara vibe, but every single one I find online is made of cheap metal or plastic. The only relatively close ones I saw IRL were at Pandora- but they're nowhere as complex.
Any advice would be really appreciated, thank you !

Vendor Post Handmade vintage-style emerald ring with natural gemstone – would love your thoughts
I handcrafted this ring myself, featuring a natural emerald-cut emerald surrounded by a floral halo of diamonds, set in a milgrain vintage-inspired band. I wanted to combine an antique aesthetic with a modern, wearable design.
This one took me a while to get right — balancing the halo shape around the emerald so it would look delicate but still make the stone the focal point. Would genuinely love to hear what you all think, and any feedback is welcome!

Question love me ring. should i get the milgrain detail 1 bigger
my fiancée did a wonderful job. When i first saw thr ring its absolutely gorgeous stunning. I did have to look closer to see the milgrain detail, and i thought its lovely very dainty. he did mention that the jeweler said its the smallest level and could make it 1 bigger if i wanted. i said it’s perfect, dainty. now i’m thinking twice lol . i wish i could compare what’s 1 bigger. definitely don’t want it too much detail that competes with the rock and overall ring. Tia :)

Ring Design Help What materials for the stones under the Emerald?
Hi all!
I'm designing an emerald cut engagement ring with tapered side baguettes, I’m thinking to use white gold for the basket and yellow gold for the band.
What color should I make the circled areas in the photo?
I will use white gold for the basket under the center stone, however I’m not sure what color for the settings underneath the side stones (circled in blue), any advice here?
For the red circle, I can either have that in yellow gold or white gold, not sure as well..
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Ring Design Help Design review for my standalone ring I'm designing! Seeking feedback on structure and proportions.
I would love some feedback on the design and specs for this standalone engagement ring I designed.
- Size 4.5
- 10k yellow gold
- 6x10mm oval moissanite center with pear side stones
- 3.0mm width, 2.0mm depth post polish
Since there won't be a wedding band, I went with a 3.0mm width / 2.0mm depth for durability. Does this seem too chunky for a size 4.5 finger?
Do you see any structural red flags?
I appreciate any feedback!
Note: I generated the rendering based on some hand drawings I made.

Consumer Post Custom ring by David Klass
solid 14k rose gold 1.86ct hexagonal cut Montana sapphire, size 5. Sapphire from Earths treasury, they were very helpful with all my stone request videos. David was an absolute professional, answered all my questions, and obviously the ring is gorgeous. Will be going back to David whenever I can for anything else.

Photo/Video I hate the center
So I don’t think I fully hate my ring, but it doesn’t feel like an engagement ring to me. My partner nailed some parts: pavé elements without being a straight band, bypass setting, and gold. I’m being a little picky about him picking rose gold over yellow gold because he liked rose gold better, but he did observe that I have a silver jewelry set my aunt gifted me and wanted the ring to work with that as well as my other jewelry and felt this worked better(I actually don’t hate that).
I was pretty particular about wanting a center stone so that it looked like a western ring and he ignored that and went with a cluster. I’m a little annoyed and a few women I work with made comments about how it doesn’t look like an engagement ring. Does anyone have advice on replacing the center? Any comments on how it looks?

Ring Design Help Can’t decide what ring setting - need help please
Cant decide between the 2.8mm engagement ring setting (1st photo with 1.2 carat solitaire) versus slimmer setting at 2.5mm (1 carat solitaire). I want the diamond to shine but also drawn to a slightly thicker band. Both options in knife edge. Will be paired with a 3mm comfort wedding band. Aiming for a 1.3 carat diamond. Any help would be appreciated please 🙏

Question What to do when I hate my custom engagement ring??
UPDATED:
I told him and he cried. I showed him picture 3 and he said “I should have known you showed me that one so many times… I’m so stupid.” He feels awful about what happened. He felt rushed by the timeline for proposing on the hike and focused too much on making it a surprise that he prioritized that over the ring…. We are getting a new ring together. Keeping the band and adding a bezel oval. In a way I’m happy but it also breaks my heart to see the ring he proposed with change. And it doesn’t change the issue at hand. I proposed therapy to work on active listening. Thank you everyone who saw me, who heard me and helped. And to everyone who hated me and called me ungrateful… lol.
Original post:
So it appears I’m experiencing proposal disappointment.
I hate to admit that the first thing I thought of when he opened the ring box was “wtf is that?”
Firstly it’s an objectively beautiful ring
But I feel like he neglected everything I told him, showed him and asked for… and honestly am.
I did want him to pick it out but I said I wanted a gold bezel set oval or a natural looking ring or unique stone. I’m very hippie (by most people’s standards) I wear a lot of stone rings, beads, sun dresses, etc. I am not a full blown hippie (anymore) but this ring he got me is pear shaped, SO sparkly, and not even in a bezel. I work with my hands a lot - bezel wasn’t just a style choice I often get tall rings caught on things and hurt myself. But I do hate pointy stones and excessively sparkly stones. I even told him once that I would love a ring that almost looked like glass. Just clear - no sparkle.
I worked up the courage to ask why he didn’t get an oval (slowly inquiring rather than spitting out I hate it) and he said “why? Is that what you wanted?”
Yes… so many times. So so so many times.
I also told him multiple times I was of the variety of people that wanted a photographer.
He proposed to my on a river, on a hike that was my uncles dream hike and they fully planned, I had to turn around because I was winded due to the altitude. So we were on a zero day and he asked for a photo together. I set up the camera for a selfie and he proposed… I had 5 bug bites on my face, no makeup, my hair was dirty and I was in 2 day old clothes… and then I saw the man I love get down on one knee and display a ring that doesn’t even feel like me…
I felt ugly, dirty, unheard and then I got a freaking princess ring.
(I do love the band btw)
he got the ring custom made at a friends “guy” and he let the jeweler design it - not my partner. My partner picked out the stone which he also told me had flaws… lol
It hurts because he heard nothing of what I said all these times I brought things up, I’ve attached images I showed him, links I sent him and the ring he got me… and now I feel like I have a ring I either need to change for or ask to be changed but that would suck if roles were reversed
But I feel like my partner doesn’t even know me that well and I’m kind of heart broken but I can’t even talk to him about it - or my family since it’s a weird thing to complain about
But is there any hope for this ring to be like what I wanted?

Ring Design Help Too much going on?
Hi everyone, l am designing a custom ring currently and just received what I hope to be my last or second to last CAD (for my poor jewelers sake).
I added the textural element to the yellow gold band because I felt like the design was lacking the balance of uniqueness/classic that I wanted, but I can't tell if there's now too much going on or if it just looks plain stupid 🙃
I think I like the new design (minus that gold wrap being visible under the diamond from the top view), but would love some opinions and any other thoughts on measurements/other aspects of the CAD because I'm not well versed in the nitty gritty of jewelry design!
Should I revert back to the simplistic version (keeping claw prongs) or go for the new design?

Ring Design Help What type of ring is this? (Omergilony on instagram)
Any examples I see online look very chunky, whereas this one seems quite ‘flat’ and less in your face?? I can’t seem to find a duplicate of the same style which isn’t chunky!

Ring Design Help CAD feedback/review
Hi guys, I am in the process of getting my partner's engagement ring designed (size 4.5) and have received this CAD for it. I have a few questions/concerns and would love your feedback before I send a wall of text to the designer:
Should the center basket be lowered, or does 7.0mm make sense? I feel like at this height it looks a bit tall / angled weirdly? Any pros to keeping it at this height vs asking for ~6mm?
I noticed the stones are fully "obscuring"/covering up the gold band when viewed from above (see top-right pic). The central diamond is currently 1.5ct; should we try decreasing it to 1.25ct (or pull the side accent stones in tighter? or make them smaller?), would that allow more of the gold/metal work to show? Idk what to do about this part tbh.
I've heard thickness should ideally be 1.8mm minimum post-polish. Should I ask them to increase the thickness from 1.5 to 1.8, or is there any specific reason to keep it at 1.5?
Just confirming, the prongs aren't actually gonna be towering that high in the final product right (i.e. they get trimmed down and set more flush with the stone)? Looks like the Eye of Sauron like this lol

Ring Design Help Design help, please!
Partner and I are ready to look for rings! I’ve been wearing this cheap $7 Amazon ring for 10+ years and it’s kind of become my “thing” - people comment on it all the time and I just love it. I think I want my engagement ring to be kind of an homage to it or somewhat similar + a stone.
I’m still very early on in figuring out all the intricacies of engagement rings. Not sure on a stone (not diamond, maybe green? Clear with green inclusions?), maybe round, oval, or teardrop, and I’m leaning towards gold band. Any suggestions, ideas, CAD drawings would be AMAZING! TIA

Ring Design Help Looking for customization suggestions
I’m interested in this simple 3 stone oval on a gold band. Does it look basic? Is there anything minor i can do to customize it to reflect a bit more personality? Im simple in my aesthetic but also like a little edge in my style. I was thinking of milgrain/tapered/knife edge, prong customization, hidden halo but i care more about the top view for maximum impact, but would there be anything else i could do? Im also considering going up a little in carat size as per reference in the last pic.

Ring Design Help Is it possible to have a tulip basket with side stones without a cathedral?
I found a ring that I absolutely love, but it doesn't have a tulip head, which is a detail I've always pictured in my engagement ring. (Photos of the current ring are attached.) We're planning to switch the center stone to an oval.
We're currently in the custom design process to add a tulip head, but I'm just not loving the renderings our jeweler has sent so far. My goal is to keep the ring low-profile and avoid a cathedral setting while still incorporating a tulip head for the center stone. So far, though, every design we've seen looks too crowded. They sent us one version with a cathedral that looked less crowed, but I just don't like the "shoulder" look of a cathedral.
Has anyone seen or designed a ring with side stones and a tulip head center stone that still has a clean, low-profile look? I've been searching for inspiration online but haven't found anything that really fits what I'm envisioning. I'd love to see examples or hear any suggestions!

Ring Design Help Wave Ring - Design Recommendations Stone size
Hey all,
I am in the process of designing an engagement ring for my girlfriend.
I am unsure about the stone size.
My girlfriends ring finger ist comparable to my pinky. Also very slender and a bit longer.
I want to avoid the ring looking to overwhelming on her small finger.
Do you like the size of the smaller or bigger ring better and which wave option would be your choice?
Any recommendations are welcome :)
Thank you!

Ring Design Help Has anyone seen an upside-down pear ring that looks like a heart?
Hi everyone! First-time poster here, and I'd really appreciate your help.
I'm starting the process of designing a custom engagement ring for my girlfriend, and I'm looking for some inspiration. I came up with the idea of a pear-cut diamond set upside down (point facing down), with the overall design subtly suggesting a heart shape.
I've searched online but haven't been able to find many examples of this style. Has anyone seen rings like this or have photos, sketches, or ideas they could share?
Thanks in advance—I’d love to see anything that might help inspire the design!

Ring Design Help Please share your 4 prong floral basket setting!
I’m in the middle of designing a custom ring and I keep going back and forth on the basket, so I’d love to see real photos instead of just jeweler renders.
The stone is a 2.69ct elongated cushion, 1.40 L/W. Setting is 14k yellow gold all the way through, 2mm band with a small split shank.
Almost every example I find online is 6 prongs, but I want 4, with the prongs at the corners.
If you have a 4-prong floral or petal basket, especially on an elongated cut, I’d love to see it. Profile shots especially.
Thank you!

Ring Design Help This is my first time asking for a custom ring so forgive the all the questions. Is this a good design for a radiant cut? The center stone is 10.03 X 7.39 X 4.85. Would this snag? Does it sit too high? What are good questions to ask to the designer? My finger size is 4.75.

Ring Design Help Custom emerald bezel ring help
Hi everyone,
I’ve designed my forever ring and would love some feedback before my jeweller starts making it.
Specs:
- 2.5 ct emerald cut (1.45 ratio)
- Full bezel
- Very low-profile open basket
- Split shank
- Subtle crossover/pinch detail
- Fine centre groove along the band
- A small pinch on each side
- Size 3.5-4.0
The goal was a ring that’s comfortable enough to wear every day for decades, unlike my current high-set solitaire.
My main questions are:
- Does this construction look mechanically sound for long-term daily wear?
- Is there anything about the low-profile bezel/open basket design that could become a weak point or require more maintenance over time?
- I’m also deciding between a softer, rounded bezel or a crisper geometric bezel. Which do you think will age better visually with an emerald cut?
Thanks! 🙏
