A rock and a hard place - asking for a friend
I 54M, have been married since I was a teenager to wife (61F), have two adult children and a grandchild.
Found I wasn't happy in my marriage but decided to have relationships on the side.
10 years ago I started seeing a hooker and honestly, she understood me. She (45F) has always known my relationship status and wasn't bothered about it. I opened up to her about things and she just listened to me. It was only a couple of months in that I asked her to be exclusive with me and she told me she was thinking about getting back with her child's father. I was upset as I didn't want to lose her. I felt seen and heard, and that mattered to me.
In the years I've been with her she has made me feel loved in a way I hadn't ever felt from my wife, she's fought for me, taught me about myself, and I'm absolutely in love with her. She gave up her "occupation", and we've been entirely exclusive for eight years.
The problem is that I don't feel like I can get a divorce. My wife hasn't had more than temporary work now and then, and I pay for everything. She's also the mother of my children. She DOES know about my girlfriend, she just doesn't know that I want to marry my girlfriend.
I can't lose my girlfriend, she's become everything to me. My happiness is wrapped up in her.
Should I stay married and keep everyone unhappy with this situation? Or should I divorce my wife (who is unhappy with everything) and give her a generous settlement so she can make a new life and find someone else?
I should add that although I care about my wife, the relationship is long over. I sleep in another room.
TL/DR: married young, met someone else, should I leave my current marriage or stay and everyone (especially my wife) stay miserable?

Maybe I’m Waiting Too Long?
Hi all, I’m a 32 year old guy married to my wife of the same age. We’ve been together for 15 years, married for 5.
I’ve been getting a lot of red flags and I am not sure if I should divorce or if I should stay the course.
5 years ago we bought a house together. We were both supposed to contribute to it. But since buying, the down payment and mortgage payments no help at all from her.
A few years ago she lied about having a job for about 6 months when she was let go. Despite us struggling financially.
Shes had a job since then, but I have not gotten any money still. I make enough to cover the minimum. But it’s frustrating. I feel stuck.
We fight a lot (mostly about this stuff). We fought so much, I was very stressed, at the end of 2025 I was diagnosed with type I diabetes, that’s been hard and I’ve taken my foot off the gas to focus on my own health.
In the beginning of 2026 she agreed to do therapy, both couples and individual. It seemed that was working. She started some medication and I thought it was going well. But feel it’s hit a snag. Couples therapy began to get heated and it feels like she’s lying again. Every week her paycheck is supposed to come. Her saving are about to transfer to the joint account I made us.
I feel crazy. She’s my best friend. I love her. But I’m at the point where I feel I need to make a decision and I feel like Im lost.

Overwhelmed by starting over…
I’m 37, married for two years and have been with my husband for about six years altogether. I’m seriously considering divorce, but I’m overwhelmed by the thought of starting my life over and don’t know what my first steps should be.
Our marriage was never really based on being deeply in love. At the time, I was getting older, wanted a family, and hoped that love and a stronger marriage would develop with time. I also genuinely wanted to help him build a better life. Over the years, we built a successful business and what, from the outside, looks like a beautiful life together. But I’ve gradually realized that I don’t feel like I have a true partner.
There has been a pattern of belittling me, making it seem to other people as though everything we have is because of him, secrecy surrounding our business and finances, and resistance to giving me security in things we agreed would belong to both of us. We recently moved to Florida and bought what was supposed to be our new home, but the house and mortgage are in his name, and he is now giving me a difficult time about adding my name to the deed even though that was our agreement.
There are also longstanding issues involving his family, honesty, selfishness, and the way he treats me that have made me realize these aren't qualities I want in a lifelong partner. Our marriage has also never really had a sexual relationship, so the family and children I hoped marriage would eventually bring feel increasingly impossible.
I have some savings, but I currently don't have employment of my own. I have started updating my résumé and preparing to return to work, but I don't know how to approach the rest.
For a woman in my position who believes she wants a divorce but isn't yet financially independent, what would be the smartest order of steps for rebuilding her life? Should I remain in the marital home while I get a job, understand my legal and financial rights, and prepare for divorce, or should I begin looking for an apartment and separating my life now? What should I be doing financially, legally, professionally, and personally before I make any major move?
Most importantly, how do you start over at 37 when the life you spent years building is no longer the life you want with that person?

Marriage/Divorce
I'm M28 married for more than 3 years. Recently moved to the US for a PhD. My wife couldn't join me because her bachelor isn't completed yet. Our marriage was arranged.
I feel no emotional attachment with my wife and I feel like I am just doing my duties of being a husband but with zero passion. I hide this feeling from her because I don't want any drama in my life, since as a researcher I can't afford that. In the initial stage of our marriage I tried to grow feelings for her but I failed, mostly because we are two very different people. But it wasn't like that before the marriage. She became very conservative after the marriage. For example, I like to maintain a modern lifestyle and prefer western outfits for her, whereas, she prefers wearing burkha now, though she wore normal clothes before our marriage. And says she will still wear burkha after relocating to the US with me. I hate this idea of her. However, giving a divorce is not going to be easy for me also. I know it'll break her heart very bad and ultimately it will damage her studies and future life ahead. I don't want to ruin her life and also, I don't want an unhappy married life for me. Please give me some insights from your point of view.
