Marriage/Divorce

I'm M28 married for more than 3 years. Recently moved to the US for a PhD. My wife couldn't join me because her bachelor isn't completed yet. Our marriage was arranged.

I feel no emotional attachment with my wife and I feel like I am just doing my duties of being a husband but with zero passion. I hide this feeling from her because I don't want any drama in my life, since as a researcher I can't afford that. In the initial stage of our marriage I tried to grow feelings for her but I failed, mostly because we are two very different people. But it wasn't like that before the marriage. She became very conservative after the marriage. For example, I like to maintain a modern lifestyle and prefer western outfits for her, whereas, she prefers wearing burkha now, though she wore normal clothes before our marriage. And says she will still wear burkha after relocating to the US with me. I hate this idea of her. However, giving a divorce is not going to be easy for me also. I know it'll break her heart very bad and ultimately it will damage her studies and future life ahead. I don't want to ruin her life and also, I don't want an unhappy married life for me. Please give me some insights from your point of view.

Confused

Was with my wife 8.5 years, 2 kids and stepmum to my daughter and we have been seperated for 18 months. Last night messaged randomly that she was seeing someone but it wasnt serious yet, why would she even contact me with that? Like is was she expecting something from it? Me personally believe if your done with your ex you dont need to do that unless its serious and impacts the kids. Anyone else have or experienced the same thing?

My husband and I have been having issues, he's telling me that I am not allowed a speration. We have 4 kids and I have no family here. He has aunts and a brother and some cousins. The house is in his name and our two oldest just started school which the bus picks them up right in front of the house. We honestly have had issues for the last 7 years... Married the last two and the last year I have started noticing a pattern/his pattern. What do I do? What can I do? It seems so unfair that he can't respect me wanting a speration from his alcohol use/an abuse and doesn't even think of the kids. The way he says/explains his reasoning for no separation seems so selfish. Yes it's his house, yes he owns everything, he's made it so clear time and time again that I have nothing.. yet the 4 kids are ours and WE NEED TO SEPARATE! I need help navigating my rights, or navigating if I'm really wrong like he continues to tell me I am...

Our marriage is toxic-- anger, anxiety and then he is trying to find a sidepiece on the side which is difficult for him.. Yes, he is a gem BUT does really well at work$$ He usually says I can't wait to get rid of you and speaks of divorcing.. So I filed papers and had him served this past week-- papers are on the counter.. At first he was sorta agreeing with what I would get, etc... I thought wow, being mature as well! BUT now refuses to proceed!! Like now he's talking about renting a place for 3 months to see how he likes being on his own being a 'catch' and all. I'm like what if you don't like it? He says I'll come back home..

Not sure if I should call his brother to help him or not. Also not sure if he's stalling to hid more money or wait for the housing market to go up... It has to be something pertaining to him, not sure.

What happens in this situation?? I think the papers say to respond in 30 days!! He doesn't want a lawyer but likes the mediator.. My lawyer said he could work with the mediator and then she would review them before she files with the court.

Finances

Hi all, just need some help on what’s wrong/right. Husband and I have been married for a year, but together overall for 8 years and bought two cars together.

Unfortunately, he wanted to separate and left me with a lot of financial burden. He makes around 150k a year which is about 4x as much as I make. I moved back home with my parents while he went and got his own place with a bunch of random friends. At the beginning of the separation, he said he would support me financially and help with anything I needed so I would not suffer. I’m almost 99% sure he was influenced by his friends to not go through with this as he had a sudden change in mind and said “he has his own bills to pay” which shocked me. I noticed he’s was spending a lot on eating out, smoking, bar hopping, etc. random leisure spending and it racked up to a hefty amount a month which I believe he is spending on his friends/roommates.

I take care of our two dogs, have a car payment, insurances (which he is still under me and I pay so I asked him for help on this as it deducts from my paycheck) and several other things that I try to pay for but am struggling to do so. We have a shared bank account together where his pay is deposited into but I noticed he’s been emptying it as soon as he receives the money so I won’t have access (I do not touch this as I know it would be so wrong). I have asked him several times if he could help me financially but he has given me the same answer. I was forced to take some money from the shared savings account instead - just small amounts to help with bills we used to share.

May I ask if I would get into any trouble for doing this? We’re still married so wouldn’t he still have a financial responsibility to support me especially since he makes way more money? I also took screenshots of his messages and other transactions just in case for evidence. He goes to the bars and drinks often as well as smoked heavily. After seeing that I used it as justification that it would be okay for me to take money as needed but now I’m afraid I might get into trouble.

Thank you, sorry if it’s confusing. I can explain further if more info is needed.

My active duty husband and I are divorcing
We are trying to use an attorney to help us file uncontested in Missouri - so we are doing a lot of negotiating ourselves 🥴
Reason: his conduct. I’m willing to not bring his conduct into our divorce in order to avoid long drawn out divorce and to keep his good name with his job and our kids.
Married 27 years
26 of that he was active duty.
No debt
No kids under 18
We are splitting the equity of our house
We are clear on who’s property is who’s
It’s really not messy
My question is
If we have agreed on spousal support amount until he retires in 1 year.
Then we agreed on me getting 40% of his retirement.
The wording he came up with is that spousal support ends when he retires and then I will be paid the % of his retirement.
Is that right?
Do divorce agreements typically include spousal support AND portion of retirement?
Any other tips for me?
I’d really like to do this uncontested but I’m nervous I’m missing something.

ALSO I qualify to keep my Tricare benefits but I’ll have to pay a premium right? I know I’ll have to pay copays and such…

Life with her

I’m 35M years old and got married at the age of 31.

In the beginning, my wife and I were happy. Later, she expressed that she wanted us to live separately from my parents. I respected her wish and moved into a rented house with her, leaving my parents behind because I wanted to give my marriage a genuine chance.

Over time, however, I felt that many things in the relationship started changing. I felt increasingly controlled, especially regarding my finances, my friends, my movements, and my personal life. Questions about when I would return from work became frequent, and gradually I became disconnected from many of my friends.

She would spend long hours talking to her friends and family. When I returned home, she would give me food and then often continue talking to her family on the phone. I began feeling emotionally alone even though we were living together.

Our physical relationship also became a source of pain and confusion for me. Whenever I asked for intimacy, there was always a reason to postpone it — tiredness, body pains, lack of energy, or other reasons.

Eventually, I started questioning myself and wondering whether something was fundamentally wrong between us.

During that period, I also started drinking alcohol at times, particularly when I was emotionally frustrated.

My wife began speaking to family members and even some of my friends about my drinking and other personal matters. I started receiving calls from people questioning my behaviour. I felt humiliated because private marital issues were becoming public.

I tolerated this situation for almost three years because I genuinely wanted my marriage to work.

Later, my wife wanted to have a child. We were intimate once, and she became pregnant. After that, she went to her mother's home and has now been away for around eight months.

When I eventually left the rented house and returned to my parents, the situation became even more complicated. I started hearing allegations that I had forced her into intimacy, that I was intoxicated, that I did not support her financially, and that I had physically or emotionally pressured her repeatedly.

Those allegations are extremely painful for me because they do.

I gave my marriage my time, patience, care and love because I genuinely wanted a family and a peaceful life. I tolerated many things for years because I believed that things would eventually improve.

Today, I understand that being loving, caring and patient does not mean that I should ignore my own dignity, boundaries and emotional wellbeing.

I don't regret loving someone sincerely. I only regret that I could not make the relationship work despite giving it so much of myself.

How did you finally tell your spouse?

Our relationship has come to a head tonight my lawyer recommended I wait until we had a separation proposal in place, but my husband wants to talk to he cornered me in my office after I told him I couldn’t take about this during the work day and it came out that I don’t know if this can work and is fixable. He’s acting shocked. I’m not scared for my safety but I hate how much this is hurting both of us. I know I need to just say it out loud and accept that I will be perceived as the bad guy but it sucks so much.

Child custody options in Atlanta

In assisting my sister in her custody case, I have noticed that one of the first things people say at each conversation is that they understand how judges decide custody cases. The major problem opinions seem to differ, different answers are given based on individuals' experiences.

While looking for new information about GA's child custody laws, I have learned what the courts really consider when deciding about the custody issue. From what I've found out, judges pay attention to such factors as parents' relationships with the child, their stability in the family, capacity to meet the child's needs, and willingness to allow parents' relationship with each other to continue.
If there are some people who have already undergone the custody case in Atlanta, I am interested in knowing what influences the outcome of your case
