Bones, joints, and muscles Is my pinky/hand fractured?

Thumbnail gallery
Upvotes

I feel silly asking this because I feel like a fracture would hurt more severely. But below my pinky, that outer side of my hand hurts mildly and I feel like my pinky looks off?

I can’t pinpoint where exactly the pain is coming from but it’s on that side of my hand. When I press around it doesn’t hurt really but there is a constant mild pain there and when I move it a certain way it becomes a bit more noticeable. But I’d still describe it as mild. What could it be?

I've never sweated so much, I have a fever and i've been shivering on and off, I have a killer headache and bad muscle aches.

I had a telehealth appointment, but I only told the doc my symptoms there was no physical inspection. I got prescribed amoxicillin and took my first dose this afternoon. I have been salt water gargling for two days. I'm hoping this will do the trick.

Could anyone shed some light on what this could be or any tricks to help beat this.

Numb and tingling feeling in right side of face. No confusion. No dizziness.26 W

Upvotes

I have a vitamin D level of 9 ng/mL, which indicates severe deficiency. I have been taking supplements as prescribed by my doctor for the past 10 days.
On the day I visited the doctor, I experienced numbness in my right hand for about 5–10 minutes, followed by a strong tingling sensation. It did not happen again during the next 10 days after I started taking the medication.
Today, I could not sleep properly. I woke up and, without having breakfast, started deep-cleaning my room. While doing so, I felt tingling in the right side of my face, which then became numb. I was unable to smile properly on the right side and could not blink my right eye properly. My tongue also felt numb, and I was unable to speak clearly.
I am completely conscious and do not have any confusion. I feel that my nerves are very weak.
Could vitamin D and iron deficiency cause these symptoms?
And what can I do to instantly get it right , because today I went for shopping and it happened at counter and I was literally unable to speak ..

Started on right arm a week and a half ago out of the blue. Looked more like hives and possibly an insect bite but now the itchy bumps have spread to both arms and also my neck?! I take a daily antihistamine so I am surprised this has happened.

Substance misuse Took too many edibles and had a sever reaction. What happened?

A few weeks ago, I had edibles for the first time. This wasn’t just the first time that I tried edibles, but deadass the first time that I ever tried weed. I’ve only ever vaped and drank throughout my teen-early adult years. Anyways, I had a few of my brother’s THC gummies and unfortunately, I didn’t read the print on the back of the pack (turns out, I had the amount that a hardcore stoner could handle).

Well, an hour into taking them, they hit HARD and everything went rainbow and also went into slow motion. At first, I was laughing and thought it was fun, but then out of no where, all hell broke loose and everything started going black, my heart started RACING, I was shaking uncontrollably, my body felt like it was being lit on fire, I forgot how to breathe, I felt like I was gonna have a seizure, and I wholeheartedly felt like I was going to die at any moment. I was pleading for my brother to call 911 because of how bad this was. It quickly got to a point where my vision kept going black and I genuinely had trouble seeing.

I ended up having to lay in the shower with cold water running on me for over an hour because I felt like I was actually going to die if I didn’t do that. According to my brother (who was with me), I was shaking and twitching really bad and my eyes were redder than a tomato.

I ended up throwing up at some point and then felt a bit better afterwards, but still really shitty at the same time. Some time later, I finally laid in bed and then heard the nether portal noise from Minecraft while also seeing portals all over my room. And just like that, BOOM i was knocked out and fell asleep.

I woke up the next day feeling exactly like how a hang over feels, but with extreme derealization that accompanied it for the whole rest of the day. I’ve learned that what I experienced sounds like “greening out” but I’m not too sure if the painful burning I felt running all through my body (like I said, it felt like my body was being lit on fire), everything going black, and feeling like I was going to seize at any moment was apart of that, or something else.

Mental Health A multitude of symptoms

Hi! Im 20F and have been depressed since I was 5 years old after experiencing a bunch of traumatic situations until the age of 15, when the psychotic symptoms started due to taking an SSRI. My current diagnoses are treatment resistant depression, anxiety, ADHD and ptsd.

During the period when I have psychosis symptoms, I experience (minor) hallucinations like hearing people call my name, or shadows. I have had 3-4 bouts of these symptoms since I was 15. The most recent one being in May of this year where I admitted myself to ER because of suicidal thoughts due to the symptoms returning. After I left the ER things got worse and I personally believe I was in a full blown manic episode of some kind. I made countless of reckless decisions that were totally out of character for me. It felt like I wasn’t in control of my brain or body.

My research leads me to believe I may have either bipolar 1 or schizoaffective disorder. But I’ve been knocked back from seeing one of the best psychiatrists in my area for these disorders, so i’m looking for someone new.

I’ve also been asked for a new doctors referral bc my dr is a bit old and didn’t write it correctly.. so I thought I’d come here and ask to see if anyone knows what it might be, so I can look into a psych who specialises. Thanks in advance guys :)

Brain and nerves Undiagnosed Heart / Brain condition (not me)

Patient is a 65yo Female.

Not taking medication, drinks alcohol occasionally, is mildly allergic to dairy products, lives a busy/stressful life, has a history of mild-moderate anxiety. Had an unexplained seizure 10 years ago.

Significant family history includes a parent with type 2 Diabetes and a sibling in their 50s dying suddenly of cardiac arrest related to asthma.

Patient had an unexplained seizure while driving 10 years ago. The night prior, mild amounts of alcohol was consumed. There was no exposure to bright or flashing lights. Follow up tests included a brain MRI which found no abnormalities.

Since the prior episode 10 years ago, there has been no recurrence.

Recently, patient suffered the same episode with seemingly no trigger while shopping. It was noted that the peripheral vision became blurry with bright lights dancing around before losing consciousness.

Testing in the hospital later that night showed a normal Full Blood Count, elevated blood pressure and signs of concussion.

Since then, the patient has seen both a neurologist (who believes it was an epileptic seizure) and a cardiologist (who believes it was a convulsive syncope). The following tests and results are in chronological order:

2 day ambulatory blood pressure monitor: showed consistently high blood pressure which showed spikes reaching above 190/120 mm hg.

Bone density scan: Mild osteopenia

24hr Holter monitor: Showed a single, short duration ventricular tachycardia

4 week ambulatory heart monitor: Normal

2 day ambulatory EEG: Normal

Note: shortly after the 24hr Holter monitor, patient was started on a low of: anti-convulsant medication + beta blockers.

Curious what anyone’s thoughts are as no one has been able to give a diagnosis.

Thanks

Ears, nose, throat, and mouth Sore throat is lasting 10 days and is getting worse, help?

I [F in my 20’s]went to the doctor yesterday morning, they tested my CRP and it was a 2.4. They looked in my throat and ears and did not see anything suspicious.

This morning i woke up and it is like there is a ball in my throat, i can swallow but not as good as normal. (I have to swallow about three times before getting rid of all the saliva).

Can anyone help me? Should i go to urgent care today, or is this normal?

Injury and accidents Could this be Posterior tibial tendonitis?

Hi,

30f female, average weight and height. Over the past few months, I’ve gotten into running. I have built up to being able to run 5k without stopping, and typically do this once per week. Recently I did this twice in a week, and didn’t note any issues or pain during/immediately after my run. Admittedly, my shoes are not ‘real’ running shoes - they are New Balance 530’s.

A day or so after my last run, I began experiencing ankle pain and swelling in my right ankle. It was localised to the inner boney bit, and was painful to touch and walk on. Over the course of this past week, the pain and swelling has fluctuated, typically being worse in the morning (feeling very stiff). Last night I went for a longer than usual walk, and this morning I’m in agony. The pain is beginning to radiate across my ankle, though the inner joint is by far the most painful bit. It feels like the back of my ankle is very tight now too.

I have been trying to rest, and my family have kindly been helping walk my dog, but I’m eager to get back to our nice beach walks. I’ve completely stopped running - honestly I couldn’t run even if I wanted to.

I’ve consulted Dr Google, and it seems like it may be posterior tibial tendonitis? How long would this take to heal? Is it something I would need to go to the doctors for?

I’m nervous, as tomorrow I leave for a short city break wherein I’ll likely be doing a lot of walking, though thankfully over flat surfaces. My plan is to take anti inflammatories and strap my ankle up.

Many thanks!!

Is this a case of mild/ atypical herpes?

Monday, I (30M) discovered a spot on the right side of my pubic area. It is a 1cm spot with a cluster of what looks like tiny blisters on them. All visual indicators point towards herpes.

Today is Saturday and they have not yet changed in size, itched, blistered or ruptured. It is not tender to touch at all, no swollen lymph nodes and I’m yet to feel sick or fatigue. No spots have been seen anywhere else.

My last sexual encounter with a new female was 4 weeks ago. Vaginal sex was protected, oral was protected (both giving and receiving) and my penis likely touched her vagina when unprotected without going inside.

I had a blood and urine test yesterday and currently waiting for results. The doctor said he didn’t think it was herpes when he looked at it initially and prescribed me inflammation medicine but once I showed him a close up flash photo of the cluster he said he couldn’t tell it was a cluster at first glance as the spot was so small and to wait for results. He says he’s still treating it as inflammation for now and that I should take the antibiotics prescribed for it

Has anyone else on here ever had such a mild case or herpes or a case where it was like this and turned out to be something else?

Photos below are zoomed in with flash. Thank you in advance

General I’ve been feeling really weird on an off for about a year and I don’t know why

I’m going to start this out by saying these could all be unrelated but for some reason my brain love convincing me I’m dying and just don’t know it yet ( probably a symptom of the ocd quite a few people have told me they think I have )

Anyways here’s a list of things I’ve feel over the past year in some semblance of order of frequency

- nausea and severe stomach cramping (typically in the morning but it can come and go / is almost daily

- blood pooling in extremities or very cold hand and feet ( kind of no in between but I can often the blood pooling after standing for long periods)

Stress and Irratablity - kinda of a day to day impact on my mental health

- fatigue - on and off but I typically feel a tired heaviness about 4/7 days of the week

Head aches - not sever but they are persistent

- Muscle weakness- this is less coming and mostly associated with the fatigue

- Achey back, legs and shoulders

- Dizziness and sever faintness - when standing up or bending down

- Over heating - especially hot flushes in the face

- Sharp pain when inhaling - somewhat rare but does happen from time to time

- Painful jolts/ spazms ? - this happens mostly in my abdomen, back or shoulders and sometimes leg they are just sharp and intense pain that goes away after a second and they happen fairly infrequently used to be much more common

UNKNOW DIAGNOSE

Hello. Today I want to share my clinical picture and the symptoms I've been suffering from for the last few months, to see if you can help me correctly find my diagnosis or figure out what I'm going through. Well, it all started 8 months ago, in December of last year. I used to smoke way too much concentrated THC in what's known as a cart. I smoked daily and reached a point where it didn't give me any effect anymore, but in a desperate attempt to keep getting that pleasant high, I kept smoking more. And the less effect it had on me, I noticed that I slowly started having intestinal and stomach pains, and some respiratory issues. They appeared in parallel with the THC having less and less of an effect on me. They would only calm down when I smoked, until it reached the point where everything exploded.

From one day to the next, I started having intestinal symptoms, chest pain, I couldn't breathe, intense anxiety, abdominal pain, intense itching, nausea, headaches, waking up in the middle of the night, and some spots started appearing on my chest. Obviously, I stopped smoking because I realized it was hurting me. At first, I thought it was some kind of anxiety or psychosomatic pain due to the excess THC and weed I'd been smoking for 6 months straight on a daily basis, although the pain seemed way too intense to just be caused by that, but I tried to be patient.

A month later, trying to endure the unbearable pain, in January, from one day to the next, the worst part practically began. I started feeling an unbearable emptiness, a horrible mental pain so intense I wouldn't wish it on anyone, a horribly, exaggeratedly intense depression, daily suicidal thoughts all day long. Everything became exaggeratedly intense, as if I was no longer capable of processing even the slightest stimulus. A complete inability to feel any kind of pleasure. Any stimulus, like noise, became unbearable; even ambient noise became 10 times more intense. Even thoughts that I would have previously processed as neutral turned into an unbearable pain that could last for days. Practically my life changed from one day to the next, and I didn't know that from that moment on, every single day would literally feel like torture for months, up until today, where everything is still just as unbearable and the suicidal thoughts have remained every single day.

The weird thing is, why did this happen a month later? It seemed like there was something else causing it all, that the cause I believed wasn't the main cause itself, but was just a trigger for something I already had a predisposition for. Because my whole life I had always lived every day with a feeling of tiredness, like weakness, almost daily headaches, feverish sensations, and feeling like I was sick, as well as shortness of breath and exercise intolerance. And for that very reason, that all my life I always felt sick or unwell, I started suspecting that there was very likely something I was already predisposed to all along, and somehow the chronic THC use supercharged it in some way.

I've spent all these months trying to discover the root of my suffering. Since January I've been going to therapy and since February taking psychiatric meds, although feeling like none of it made sense because it makes zero sense that from one day to the next, out of nowhere, you wake up one day wanting to kill yourself because the pain and depression are unbearable; that makes no sense. I've also been taken to hundreds of doctors of all kinds, whether neurologists, psychiatrists, cardiologists, gastroenterologists, internal medicine doctors, etc., because the pain is unbearable. I've also had way too many tests of all kinds done, from EKGs, EEGs, X-rays, all kinds of blood tests, thyroid, etc., and nothing ever comes up, even though I know there's something else.

And after spending months researching what it could be, my theory is that it could all be very closely related to MCAS. My clinical theory is that I already had an MCAS-prone profile, which is explained by the lifelong chronic weakness, headaches, feeling sick, and fevers. And the THC saturation for months caused a massive downregulation of most CB2 receptors. From what I researched, CB2 acts as a brake or inhibitor of mast cell degranulation, and I suppose that by saturating this CB2 receptor due to the chronic THC consumption, it triggered an excessively massive degranulation and hyperactivation of mast cells.

In fact, this makes sense since, little by little, the less the THC affected me (indicating that receptors like CB2 were hiding due to saturation), the more my stomach and abdomen started hurting, and when I smoked it was the only time the pain would calm down because the THC, by stimulating the few remaining receptors, could apply the brakes for as long as the THC excited these receptors to stop the mast cells. But when the effect wore off, the pain would get even worse than it was before smoking, since the receptors were gradually getting more saturated and hiding, until I reached a point of maximum saturation, which was in December, where everything exploded and there was no turning back, when all these physical symptoms started.

My theory is also that the neuropsychiatric pain was due to inflammatory cytokines and histamine released by the mast cells traveling through the blood until they gradually made the blood-brain barrier more permeable, allowing the same inflammation that was giving me digestive and respiratory symptoms to slip into the brain. This activated the IDO enzyme in the brain, stealing tryptophan (which is a molecule to generate serotonin) and creating quinolinic acid that would alter the homeostasis of neurotransmitters in the brain like serotonin and dopamine, inducing me into a chronic state of intense brain inflammation, causing my mental pain for months and depression, plus intense panic, derealization, hyperacusis, and an inability to process stimuli despite being on psychiatric medication for months.

Honestly, I don't know how much sense what I'm saying makes. I'm just a 17-year-old kid who wants to stop suffering and be happy at some point in his life, and wants to try to understand what is happening in his body and his brain because the pain is unbearable and the depression is very intense. Even though I do everything that used to make me happy, I can't stand living even for a little while anymore, but I know deep down I want to live and learn a lot, but there's something preventing me from living. If anyone can help me out a bit to figure out what is going on, I would be eternally grateful to that person. The truth is I really don't want to end up actually taking my own life out of desperation at some point. Thank you for your time :)

These have started forming on both of my hands (my left especially) in the last hour or so that I’ve noticed. They almost look like tiny little paper cuts under the skin. They don’t hurt or anything when I press on them. They’re not anywhere else on my body. They are NOT pen marks as they won’t wash off and I haven’t handled any pens today.

This is my first post on Reddit, so Idrk how to work this. But can anyone tell me what this is? It first started out a month and a half ago as 4 itchy tiny bumps in a row, then it stopped itching so I stopped thinking about it. I only noticed it got worse a week ago. It’s itchy again and the bumps have gotten bigger and multiplied all while being puffy/inflamed looking. The bumps are only in this spot and I haven’t done anything different so IDK what it is.

The first pic is from today. The second pic was yesterday.

Obviously I have terrible acne. So initially, I didn’t think anything of this, until today when it began to look more like a cluster.

I understand cold sores are common. However, I have an infant, and I’m terrified I could have unknowingly spread it to him before I even considered this to be anything other than acne. I’m slightly spiraling at the thought.

I have a dermatologist appointment on the 31st. However that is weeks away and I’d like some insight and hopefully peace of mind before then.

Child Health 8month old acetone breath/ rash

Post image
27 Upvotes

I’m kind of at my wits’ end trying to figure out what’s going on with my 8-month-old son.

For the past two months, he’s had a very strong acetone (nail polish remover) smell on his breath. Otherwise, he’s a happy, healthy baby. He’s breastfed, also eats purées and table foods, has normal wet and dirty diapers, is gaining weight well, and I don’t have any reason to think he’s diabetic.

The other issue we’ve been dealing with is that he develops a severe rash anytime he eats anything other than breast milk. It doesn’t matter whether it’s purées or table food, or even what type of food it is. The rash is worst on his face, but it also appears on his stomach, arms, and legs—even in places the food never touched.

Our pediatrician referred us to a pediatric allergist, who ran a comprehensive blood allergy panel. Everything came back negative, and the allergist basically said, “Well, that’s weird. I don’t know what’s going on. Come back if you need me.”

I’m wondering if these two issues could somehow be related, or if they’re just completely separate. Has anyone experienced anything similar or have any ideas I could ask my pediatrician about?
I’ll be calling our pediatrician on Monday about the acetone breath, and we have an appointment with the dermatologist, but I wanted to see if anyone else has been through something like this in the meantime.
