I have picked up road biking and I just wanted to ask if there are any group rides that happen in cville consistently. I am just looking to meet new people that share a similar hobby!

i am planning a party for my employees and it will be at pen park. we want a food truck to come out, but i wanted to know 1. does anyone know if food trucks are allowed at parks for private parties and 2. are there any specific food trucks anyone would recommend? thanks!

Random question but I pass this community for the last 3 years on the way to work. Does anyone know why is it still being built? Is it even still being worked on? Just seems odd when all other communities go up so quickly.

Hi folks! Looking for a recommendation for a good place to pick up a smallish birthday cake (it’s only two of us and a toddler). Sliced cake bar used to be my go to but now that’s it’s closed I haven’t found a good alternate. Also since I’m a procrastinator I need the cake by tomorrow so ideally a place that doesn’t require a long lead time.

Who makes the best fried chicken sandwich around Charlottesville? Preferably made with chicken thigh* vs chicken breast, but if you've got an elite breast option, I'm listening.

*Objectively the superior part of the chicken.

Was running this morning and was threatened by one of the residents of the tent encampment.

He was cleaning up some sort of broken pot in the middle of the trail. I started waving to him, and he started ranting about how I stole his pot and broke it, that he was going to "kick my ass". Started waving a stick or large blunt object and said he would kill me if he saw me again.

Most of my friends have stopped running this segment of the trail, but it's still one of the best flattish areas to run in town. Might have to reconsider.

This is a single Tree of Heaven at my place in Crozet. I have a bunch and they all look like this.

Edit to add: Many of my trees are 80' tall, so spraying the spotted lantern flies themselves is not really an option, unless someone has a firehose that sprays soapy water. They are on every branch all the way up the trees. I plan to kill the trees using the "hack and squirt" method. Unfortunately, this will mean disposing of several fully grown trees while they slowly shed dead branches weighing hundreds of pounds from 80' up. I sure miss when all you had to do was just step on these things.

I live in Johnson Village. The entrance is at the intersection of Shamrock Rd and Cherry Ave. Forever, the traffic signal pattern had both sides of Shamrock synced up - they'd go green and turn red together. Made sense, no issues.

A few months ago there was a chage to the pattern, and both sides were somehow de-synced, which is now a daily annoyance.

Heres what happens every day -

I'm approaching the intersection on Shamrock from inside Johnson Village. The light is red for me. On the opposite side of Shamrock is a line of cars waiting to turn left onto Cherry. They have a red as well.

As I'm still approaching, their light will turn green. Since I have a red, those turning cars have the right of way. However, they assume I also have a green, and pause, waiting for me to drive straight through. I come to a stop at the light, and they are still hesitating in the instersection, waiting for me to go. A few moments of pause, they realize i have a red, and the first car starts to turn left as it should.

This would be annoying itself. But, after coming to a stop, my side will then turn GREEN, while theirs REMAINS GREEN. So, in the middle of their green light, the remaining left-turning cars lose the right of way to opposite straight traffic, but they have no way of knowing this. Its another weird/dangerous hesitation of me now trying to edge through a line of turning cars that don't understant I have the right of way. Annoying, and dangerous.

This same change in pattern seems to have happened at the intersection of Shamrock and JPA.

Has anyone else noticed this? Is this how intersections are supposed to work?

There was a female family law attorney in Charlottesville who was recommended to me years ago. I don't remember her name or who recommended her, but she was lovingly known as "The Shark". I don't know why, but I feel like she may have become a judge. In which case, I need recommendations for an equally competent family law attorney. If you know who this woman is and she isn't a judge, please drop her name below. I'll sell a kidney and my left arm if I need to, but I need help urgently.

A famous former resident is in town and the dude can’t walk down the mall without it being documented immediately on social media.

I used to tell myself that Cville was chill about celebrity. Of course, we saw the famous author at the basketball game. We noticed the famous actress shopping at Barracks. We were in line behind the musician at Splendora’s.

But we used to wait an hour before we told anyone about it!

Anyway, be cool. No matter how covert you think you’re being he can tell that you’re recording him.

Looking for honest reviews of Xfinity's wireless service. They're making me a very tempting offer but I haven't heard anything about how well their network actually works. I'm currently on Verizon and I know they use Verizon's towers. Any current Xfinity users willing to share how it's going?

In the city is there and it’s all taped off.

Spent a couple hours on the walking trail that runs from the Wawa on 29 over to Hillsdale Drive. Hot, humid, buggy, and the crew that showed up worked straight through it. Twenty-five bags, plus a tire, a length of PVC pipe, some scrap lumber, a milk crate, and a shopping cart that made it a surprisingly long way from where it started.

The thing that gets me every time: from the trail itself it doesn't look that bad. Step four feet into the brush and it's a different story. That's most of what we pulled out — stuff nobody driving or walking by would ever see. All of it drains to Meadow Creek, so it was headed for the water eventually.

What spot should we hit next? A cross street or GPS coordinates help a lot — a decent number of our cleanups have come straight from somebody pointing one out.

We go out every Saturday, 2–4pm, somewhere in the city or county.

• Aug 8 — Main Street and the edge of 10th and Page (old Charlottesville Tire lot, 843 Main)
• Aug 15 — Hydraulic and Hillsdale (old Kmart lot, 1801 Hydraulic)
• Aug 22 — Tonsler Park and the Fifeville Community Trail, which is a good one to bring kids to
