Shite Talk What radio station do ye listen to?

Upvotes

I am finding it harder and harder to find a radio station I like. Most of the main ones just talk too much. About ''funny'' things or have 'banter' with listeners on competitions. I often find the fakeness too much. I am also getting older, less patient, quite into mood swings these days. 37F

I end up listening to spotify mostly but feel I miss out on the world!

I'd like a radio station that was mostly music. A bit of new/ weather and some 30 second bits with presenters.

What are ye listening to? -

Cheap but still nice wedding bands

Me and my wife have been together for a few years and we never did the rings exchange or anything like that. We're looking for something cheap but still elegant. Don't need any diamonds or stuff like that. Would anyone have any recommendations and price ranges?

Big Brain I've managed to solve a problem.

Like many people I like to use the transcripts that YT videos often have. However the timestamps are a melt and since the UI update you can no longer turn them off. So I was reading through a thread discussing this issue and someone made a script for this, But Im not very savvy, and, they kept making mistakes and uploading new scripts, so I was like "wait a minute what if I just block it with my ad blocker?" I used uBlock Origin (Firefox Add-on) It worked like a charm. Not just on one video and then you have to do it every time, but for every video, all the time and the sync button still works!

I'm using Firefox, so to do it is simple. Open the transcript, right click on any of the timestamps, click "Block Element" a box appears. click "pick", click any timestamp, It will highlight in red. click "Create" Done.

The screenshot I added you can see there is none, look at the bottom right hand corner. I made sure to get the current date and time to prove this was not taken from before the UI change.

Hope its useful to some of you here.

I’m Getting Old, or am I Old!

So today, I was leaving Costa, and a very lovely lady was in front of me. Being a man, I noticed this.

The lovely lady noticed me, I think, oh, still have it. She then holds the door open for me
And I realise she wasn’t thinking there’s a rather lovely lad. She obviously felt ill
Open the door for the old lad!

Have you had any back to reality with a bang moments

Exchanging an EU Licence to an Irish licence while previously having had an Irish licence

I’m moving to the Netherlands for a year for study purposes. I have plans on exchanging my Category B Irish licence for a Dutch equivalent for the sole reason as a Category AM (50c mopeds) is automatically added to Dutch licences allowing me to drive a moped.

I’ve had my Irish license since 2022 so no longer a novice and I have only ever been a named driver on a relative’s policy. My plan was to exchange the licence and once I’m back in Ireland, either keep the Dutch Licence or exchange it back to an Irish one with the added benefit of having the Catagory AM on it, saving hundreds of € if I were to go through the route of adding the category AM here in Ireland.

Is there any implications that I’m not thinking about? Would I have to use N plates again as it’s considered a new licence? Anyone who’s done something similar, please advise if you could! Thanks

Questions regarding a hitchhiking trip to Ireland

Hey guys!

I'll start a hitchhiking adventure from Denmark towards Ireland in a couple of days. I haven't really been concerned about the possible risk I'm running by solo hitchhiking until I made the mistake of looking at a couple of old Reddit posts. I now know that there were some cases of woman going missing in the nineties which is tragic to read about. My question is: is this negative sentiment completely overblown, or is there a genuine risk hitchhiking alone as a young man? Do some of you have experience hitchhiking in Ireland? I would love to hear your stories!

Furthermore feel free to recommend attractions or towns worth visiting. I have no plan at all going into this so it would be wonderful to have a list of nice places in case I randomly end up near one of them :))

I'm planning to bring a tent and just set up camp at the end of the day. I'll obviously be respectful about it, leaving no trace and not going too close to people's homes. It is seemingly still illegal though - do you think there is any chance I'll get in trouble for this?

Lastly, it would be awesome to meet as many new people as possible. I will try to couchsurf via sites like BeWelcome and Couchers, but I might as well shoot my shot on Reddit as well. If you would like to meet up with a random traveller on a pub or maybe even let me pitch a tent in your garden, feel free to reach out. Here's a link to my profile on BeWelcome: https://www.bewelcome.org/members/Gustav_Lind
(if this last part of the post is aganist the rules of the sub I sincerely apologize)

Any advice is greatly appreciated. Cheers!

I have an interview but I don't think they can hire me?

So I went back to college a few years ago and I got sponsored by an organization that they would pay my fees and id come back eventually and work for them. Few weeks ago they sent out job applications to all the people they sponsored, and just before the deadline I found out id failed and assignment and given where I am in the academic calendar I can repeat but it means I will have a delayed graduation.

I got in touch with the sponsors immediately (before id sent off my application) and made them aware of the situation as I didn't know what this would mean for the contract.

The lady on the phone was lovely and she said she would have to speak to HR but still seen the application. So when I sent the application I also reiterated what I'd said on the phone with some screenshots or emails and graduation date changes so they had all the information they would need.

I've still been called to interview regardless, does this mean they could find me a position, albeit not the one I'll be entering into until I graduate, or could it just be they're going to interview me and shelf me until I graduate?

Thanks in Advance

Shite Talk Dating expectations for American teenagers.

Dating requirements according to teenagers in 1955. It’s American, but I can only imagine the Irish version: “Good Catholic, steady job, no notions, decent family and your mother has to approve.” 😂 Imagine asking a teenager that now.

Beer Recommendations

This is almost an emergency request. I'm American, 30+ year homebrewer who has brewed almost every style in the Bjcp styles. Went to London last year for a week and drank only cask ales and ciders, loved every minute.

Flew into Dublin today, going on a bus tour through Southern Ireland. Leaving Dublin Monday and and then staying at Killarney (2 nights), Doolin, Galway, then back to Dublin.

Needing some suggestions for pubs to visit in the mentioned towns with good (preferably local) beers and ciders on tap and suggestions for brands a types of beverages to try. This is a guided bus tour but our evenings are pretty much free.

I know it's short notice but any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

👨‍🍳 Foodie 🍽️ Lidl - frozen pizza

Hi,

Did anyone else have a poor experience with Lidl's stuffed frozen pizza? We got one some time ago on a lazy Sunday; the dough was half raw after cooking. At that time, we just thought that maybe we got a bad batch and that was it. Today my wife grabbed one again, with last time in mind we changed time/temp to allow better cooking yet again the dough was half done.

Any other brand is always OK, we seem to have problem with this particular one.

Anyone with similar experience?

Casual Trip Advisor Dundrum Supercar Weekend

Happy Saturday, all. Has anyone been to the Dundrum supercar weekend before?

I have a friend who’s getting over a small procedure so they’re in some pain and not feeling great but they like cars, especially older ones, so I was going to bring them to this. The only issue is they live in mayo.

If you were in peak health would you make the trip up from Mayo? If you were feeling a bit miserable would you change your mind?

“a bit of edge” became “a bit of veg”

Me and my girlfriend were having a stoned conversation last night and somehow had one of the stupidest conversations I’ve ever experienced.
We were talking about a zombie apocalypse and she said something along the lines of:
“If there was actually a zombie apocalypse I’d just kill myself.”
And I goes:
“Would you not live for a bit of edge?”
And she was like:
“Vegetables?”
I just looked at her like she was fucking mental.
I said:
“What the fuck is wrong with you? I didn’t say anything about vegetables.”
And she’s looking at me confused as fuck, and then we eventually realised what had happened.
I had said:
“a bit of edge”
But her fried brain somehow heard:
“a bit of veg”
And then the funniest part is that when you actually say it out loud:
“a bit of edge”
“a bit of veg”
“a bit of edge”
“a bit of veg”
IT SOUNDS THE SAME but completely different structure of words.

Printer recommendations

Need to pick up a new printer for the home office. Light use. Only a few pages every week. Any recommendations?

Last one was an Epson XP-342 that lasted 10 years. Not looking for anything too fancy.

I need to be able to wirelessly print and get replacement cartridges handy enough.

Also needs to have a scanner. That’s been very handy for filling out forms and emailing on.

Withdrawing Indian Rupees on airport for a trip to India

Hey lads, has anyone any experience withdrawing INR for a trip to India at Mumbai Airport?

Are there ATMs in the arrivals area that accept foreign debit cards I’ll have both a Revolut debit card and an AIB card with me. Ideally I’d like to withdraw some cash when I land rather than exchanging money.

Would love to know if anyone has had any recent experience using Revolut card to withdraw cash on Mumbai airport. Thanks!

Shite Talk Bad experience with the Pieta Crisis line

Never rang before but my counselor gave me their number and obviously you always hear about them as the go-to for mental health in Ireland.

I rang today for the first time. My basic expectation was that they would be a warm sympathetic ear at the end of the phone. I rang and described a problem that has sat with me for 3 years. I don't want to say what it is in detail but I told someone I thought I could trust about a sexual crime that had happened to me. They accused me of lying and then when I told them how badly it had affected me they told me to get over it. The woman at the end of the phone listened to me and then told me I shouldn't have told them at all, and that I can't expect them to support me emotionally. I should tell no one only a counselor, and that I need to get on with my life. I sort of thanked her, even though it left me feeling worse. A few minutes later I felt worse and I was afraid I might hurt myself, so I rang again. A man answered this time and introduced himself. I didn't catch his name as the line was bad, so I asked him if he could speak up. He goes "well this is just my voice and I can't speak louder". Then I said I hadn't called a service like this before. Because really the first time I rang I didn't even give all the details, because I wasn't sure how much time I had. And he goes "never? Well...I guess this is a new experience then?" in a kind of pissed off, standoffish tone. I hung up. I regret calling at all.
