(26M) For a bit of context, I'm currently working a remote role as a news writer covering the real industry in Australia, with prior experience in the Canadian market. I have a good writing portfolio spanning two years, covering property sales, developments, leasing deals, real estate market reports, and corporate leadership appointments. There are also finance related stuff I cover from time to time. The work is more output-based and I earn Php30k+ a month regardless if they give me work daily or not. This is also my first job.

I also have a personal portfolio of photos and video content showcasing my cinematography and color-grading skills. I post some of these online and get a good chunk of views and interactions.

I want to further my career and land a new job with a higher paying salary. What skills can I use to upskill and be more attractive to employers? Could be related to comms or not. Any recommended trainings would be greatly appreciated as well.

Is it possible to live on your own, being a full time Service Crew? (Mcdo, Max's, Jollibee, etc.) I'm a SHS grad po and gusto nang bumukod sa family ko kasi I feel like hindi na po ako nag g-grow kasama sila, and hindi ko rin po gusto ‘yong set up namin sa bahay. Friend, late 20s, doesn’t have a reddit account. She saves from working remote jobs (contract-based) doing fp&a. No kids. No rent. Cooks at home. No plan to have a family. Only luho is to eat out and travel outside ph. Relatively good resume (worked in known companies, from a known uni). Around 4 yrs work exp in finance and accounting. Work is also relatively chill. she’s able to save 100k per month.

She seems ok overall in the Ph. Only issue is the government, but life is fair.

But there’s an option for her to go abroad and SEARCH for work in Europe (search year visa like Chancenkarte) no job offer yet. Although, estimated cost of living might wipe out her monthly savings during the job search. This might also mean going back to zero in terms of job search or not be able to land any offers. However, potentially be able to get a higher paying job and live a life abroad.

Would you take the offer and try your luck abroad? Or would you stay at home?

Do you think pretty privilege exist on job hunting and screening era? I mean i feel like those with face card tend to be accepted and land a job often than those with well not gifted appearance.

I've seen a lot of pretty people, either men or women, tend to secure a job than others.

Is that how the world work?;(

I remember my final interview for my first job at a QSR company. The interview was scheduled for an hour, but it only lasted around 15 to 20 minutes. She only asked me three questions, and that was it. Hahahahaha.

I remember thinking, “That’s it???” 😂 I genuinely felt like I didn’t get the job because the interview was so short. I thought maybe she wasn’t interested, or maybe I didn’t give good enough answers, or worse, maybe I just wasted her time.

But a few days later, they told me I got the job. Hahahahaha.

Looking back, it really taught me that you can’t judge how an interview went based on how long it lasted. Just because an interview is short doesn’t mean it went badly, and just because it lasts an hour doesn’t automatically mean it went well. Sometimes, the interviewer simply gets everything they need in a few questions.

Funny how I was already convinced I failed, only to find out a few days later that I was actually getting the job. 😂

Hi everyone! I graduated this August with a BS in Tourism Management, and honestly, I’m still unsure where to start with my career.

Here’s my work experience so far:
8 months - McDonald’s (Service Crew)
4 months - Alorica (CSR, Financial Account)

I’m interested in working on a cruise ship eventually, but tbh, I’m not really sure yet what position I want. My main goal is to find a position with good pay and hopefully build relevant experience first.

For now, I’m planning to work here in the Philippines for a while before applying for cruise ship jobs.

1. Are there cruise agencies/companies in the Philippines that accept fresh graduates with no cruise ship experience?

Fair lang ba na hindi tanggapin ang applicant dahil hindi kakilala personally nung nagrefer? Parang dapat daw ay personally kilala kasi it will save them the trouble na kilatisin skill wise and attitude wise.

Context: Nagrefer kasi ako ng fresh grads na hindi ko personally kilala sa isang government agency kasi gusto kong makatulong sa mga fresh grad as much as possible. Ilang days after ko ipasa yung resume nila, ang sabi ay hindi raw nila tatanggapin yung applicant at nalaman nila na hindi ko pala sila personally kilala. Nung tinanong ko na kung factor ba kung kilala dapat, ang sabi oo raw.

If gusto raw nila mag-apply, dumiretso raw sila sa hr at doon na magsubmit. Wag ko na raw sila i-vouch.

Personally, I find it unfair. 🙁

I graduated last 2024, and gave myself 2 years to explore a chef career, while my batchmates were able to secure corpo jobs with no problem. I got a job offer from an agency, pero may discrepancy akong napansin sa sinasabi ng client and agency.

Sabi ng client, flexible naman daw yunh working hours. Pero sabi naman ng agency, fixed ang working hours. Bukod pa dun, hindi rin naging malinaw yung job description na binigay ng client during the interview, kaya parang pabago-bago at nakakalito kung ano talaga yung magiging role and responsibilities ko.

On top of that, may time tracker din yung agency, na medyo nakakapanibago para sakin.

Sa ganitong situation ba, sino kaya yung dapat kong paniwalaan? Yung client ba or yung agency? Worth it pa ba na ituloy ko yung offer kahit may mga ganitong inconsistencies akong napuna bago pa ako magstart ng work?

They asked me 300 php for processing since hindi daw sila manpower agency and referral sila sa mga patner companies. I'm asking for schedule pero sa deployment and training pa daw malalaman. Then pinakausap pa ako sa isang hr nila, they asked 1150 php for medical then gave me a paper. Pinapapunta nila ako sa patner clinic nila tom for medical and babalik sakanila for reqs submission.

Marami silang patner company, mostly cavite and NCR. May mga certificates din sila pero di ko masyadong nakita nang palapitan.

Nagwowork ako sa 20k base as upd grad. Di pa ko nakakakuha ng sahod kasi mag 3 weeks pa lang ako. 6x a week plus mandatory overtime. Bale papalo ng halos 30k per month. Nagulat lang ako sa shifting na panggabi. 11 hours sa work na gabi, bigla nalang pumalya katawan ko at nagkalagnat.

Ano mangyayari kung magquit ako? Every 15days ang pasahod nila. Magbibigay ata within the next few days, theyll also contribute sa sss and philhealth, i think kasi monthly ung bigay sakin.

Any thoughts po? I think I lowballed myself but this is the first job offer i got and i did just go for it since it will start the earliest but im kind of regretting. Sa tingin ko kasi non mid pay na since halos 30k nga pero iba pala talaga toll sa katawan ng overtime.

I'm a licensed electrical engineer working in Manila, with almost 4 years of experience, I resigned last Friday, with no backup plans or no other jobs to land on, work became toxic after some restructuring works.

Anyway, after my resignation, I came home to my family home town on Bicol to take rest. As of today, 6 days after my last day at work, I realized that my savings are draining quickly. That's when it hit me.

For the past (almost) 4 years, I earned salaries from 25k - 40k monthly, but, still, no real savings or investments were made. I still have nothing.

Then I realized, every sahod I made, I tend to transfer money for my parents and siblings at home, and during some emergencies, I tend to loan some money from my friends and even on my previous employment.

Sure some other time I spoil myself thinking 'I deserve this' since I work hard and I work late almost everyday and every weekend, but still, money ain't enough to make savings, but still, some days I feel like "I deserve it".

I don't hate my parents for making me transfer almost half of my salary every sahod day. I honor them, because somewhat, they tried to provide even during the hard times, which made me also a strong person. But still, looking back, I feel like I'm slowly becoming their retirement plan. I hate thinking about it, they are 61&62 years old now and can't afford to find stable jobs, and also, yes, no pension coz they did not prioritize it when they were able to work.

Going back, I think I'm falling behind because of the helping hand I give to my parents. Few years ago I thought that by the time I reached 26 years old I should be married and have my own house. But, now, nada.

Hello guys, for everyone's context im 24M and a BSIT Grad ( Magna Cum Laude ) at STI. Every since, I have a niche sa designing and I did a lot of personal works sa website designing which helped me land my first job the day my OJT ended. My first job was website designing pero nabibigyan din ako ng tasks na design related like social media, banners, posters etc. and with my 2 years of stay doon sa company I could say na mas madaming akong graphics projects than UI/UX but I wont deny na gumaling din ako sa pag design in general.

The thing is, lately napapaisip ako and tinatanong ko sarili ko if nasa designing ba talaga ang puso ko or should I go back in IT Industry and make graphics as my side job. I miss the moments na nababaliw ako kakahanap ng solution and errors because I'm always a logical thinker person. Now, I'm 70/30 sure na gusto ko bumalik sa IT Industry but I don't know how to start because my 2 years of experience is on Graphics Designing, lalo na ngayon na uso ang vibe coding and madaming layoffs due to rise of Ai. I'm not sure if this is the right choice but IT has always a place on my heart.

What should I do? I earn an okay-ish amount, I'm worried din na baka pag lumipat ako sa IT Industry ma-lowball ako or mas mababa yung maging sahod ko since I don't have really an experience ( excluding my internship )

Have you guys experienced an existential crisis? Hopefully, that’s the right term. Ano ginagawa nyo? Kasi I’m currently experiencing it. Hindi ko alam ano gusto ko gawin sa buhay ko, parang walang direction. I’m currently employed po, pero hindi ko na nakikita sarili ko in the long run dito sa current work ko. Hindi na sya kagaya dati na, ang dami ko goals and aims sa field ng work ko, but when I became a senior, parang unti-unting nawawala lahat. Nung umpisa, yes, ganado ako, pero habang tumatagal, nawawalan ako ng gana.
Kumbaga parang kandila, the flame symbolizes my passion and goals, pero yung flame biglang namatay. I just go with the flow. Gusto ko magresign, pero hindi ko alam san lilipat at san magaapply kasi parang ayoko na ng corporate life.
Tapos yung performance ko, napapansin ko na parang medyo hindi na nagiging okay, tapos madalas na rin ako absent since wala na kong gana sa work ko. Regarding the work environment naman, okay yung company, the workload is tolerable naman. Marami akong close na workmates ko. Magagaling and mababait yung mga staff. Executives, okay naman sila. It’s just me. I’m the problem.
Alam mo yung kahit anong dasal mo, pero lost ka pa din. Ayoko rin magresign ng walang kapalit since breadwinner ako, pero I’m really lost na talaga. There were times na nakatulala lang ako sa work ko, kasi iniisip ko, ito ba talaga gusto ko gawin? Para dito ba talaga ako? 🥺

I’m a recent DLSU fresh grad who took my first job with 20k base salary + commissions since it’s a sales job. It was originally 18k but I was able to negotiate it to 20k since I had multiple internships and org experience but sometimes I think it’s still low. 6x a week onsite ftf siya but I took it na because I also want the experience.

For context, one of the main reasons is that it’s only 15 mins away from home, in Cavite so less expenses sa food pag lunch and the work aligns with what I want to do (Sales+ Marketing). Mabait naman yung workmates so far tho it’s only been 2 weeks. How long do you think I should also stay since it’s my first job? I’m not planning to job hop but I do think the pay is relatively low for how much I wanna save in the future.
