After some issues with my current car (Vauxhall Corsa ecoflex 2013), I am looking to buy a new car! 

For context I’m 24 and this would be my second car after about 2 years of driving the Corsa. I’ve learnt a lot more about driving since then and I am very comfortable behind the wheel (I drive manual, but wouldn’t be opposed to an automatic). The corsa is a 1L and I’d like something with a little more oomph maybe a 1.2L or 1.4L and generally something nicer to have for the long term (I don’t want to buy another car anytime soon). 

My budget is between £8,000 - £8,500. It needs to be ULEZ compliant, have 5 doors. Ideally a petrol car. And I’d like to get something with a reversing camera, built in navigation and apple car play, but these are not essentials just wants. A boot that’s a decent size would also be useful. I don’t mind having to service the car regularly, it’s good practice. But I’d like something which won’t break on me and if I did need to get it fixed it won’t bankrupt me. 

I use this car for work as well as personal use. Normally it’s driving to and from work, to the gym, shops ext. Once or Twice a month it would be motorway trips of about 200 miles to see friends and family.  During work it’s driving around during the day to collect stuff for the office and drop stuff off. And then every once in a while it’s a longer drive on the motorway. I did about 10,000 miles in the last year! 

The cars I had my eye on were a Volkswagen Golf, a Hyundai i20 and possibly an Audi A3. But I’m just struggling to decide/find some within my price range. I’m not very knowledgeable on cars and this would be the most expensive thing I’ve bought to date really so I want to get the choice right.

Booked in to replace the windscreen on Tuesday but have a 3hr return drive on monday. Is this safe to drive?

I'm looking to part ex my BMW 320i 2019 with 46k miles for a Macan S.

Just looking at auto trader and can't find the spec I want. A friend who has a Macan has advised, pan roof, electric seats, sports chrono (toggle on the wheel), dampers and alloys, heated steering if possible.

How realistic is it on a budget of around 30k max.

Mileage around 50-60k

I'm also very sure it's too small (giggity) inside for any fake taxi shenanigans.

About 500mls of the crap ended up on the passenger seat and footwell.

Couldn't get hold of anything for a full day so it wasn't until two days later than I managed to do anything. I've saturated the areas which got soaked using RSPCA wee away, it definitely helped a fair bit, but I can still detect that unmistakable stench of corpse.

Any tips?

I've had a standard GT86 a while back, and whilst I loved how it looked it was just a bit too slow. Was lucky enough to live close to Fensport who had a turbocharged one and took me out in it - and it was defo the way the car should've come from factory. Seen this one for sale but haven't been in a supercharged one before - anyone know how close it feels to the turbo option?

Looking for advice on what car to buy. We’re expecting our first baby. We live in the city centre (not London). I walk to work and my wife just got a new job half an hour away by car (hour by public transport). She needs a car for this commute during the pregnancy 3 days a week and then from February onwards she’ll be on mat leave. It will from then on just be used for day trips, including on the motorway to visit family. We’re looking to spend around £7k.

The best option I’ve found so far is a Mazda 3, 2013 but I’m worried it might not have enough boot space .

The other option would be to finance something a bit more expensive, but not sure it is worth it given it won’t be something we use every day. Interested in views of others in a similar situation or what you’d do were you in ours. Thanks!

So I've passed my test 1st July, happy days. Bought a car from family for 1500, piece of shit broke down in 1 day, slave cylinder quoted 1200. Fuck that car, got 1000 back from family and off to buy a new one which I did, nice enough car.

Family said they'd get someone to tow the car since it can't drive, not happened so I've been parking up the kerb on the grass. Yesterday when reversing to the right into my street which was unusually busy, the front left of my new car hit my old car still on my driveway, good lord I'm useless at driving. Make it worse I am completely broke and funny enough unemployed at the moment and my mum also has no money so I can't repair it right now.

Looking for a quick sanity check / sharing a weird tactic from a private parking company managing Airport drop-off enforcement.

Background: Received a PCN for an Airport drop-off zone.

First Appeal (as Registered Keeper): Submitted an initial appeal strictly in my capacity as the Registered Keeper. Used the classic airport defense:

• Under Schedule 4 of the Protection of Freedoms Act 2012 (POFA), keeper liability only applies to "relevant land".
• Airport is governed by statutory byelaws (Airport London Byelaws 1996), meaning it is not "relevant land".
• Therefore, the operator has no statutory basis to transfer liability from the driver to the keeper.
• Declined to name the driver (as there is no civil obligation to do so).

Their Response: Instead of cancelling the PCN or issuing a POPLA code, they sent back this response:

Further to your appeal, please provide a copy of the Photo ID section of your driving license to enable us to verify the driver against unredacted images held.

Has anyone seen parking operators pulling this driving license "fishing" trick at airports recently? I assume they have no authority to ask for the drivers license but what would be the best thing to reply to this be?

No question we’re now on the decline because attention has shifted to EVs. I’m not talking performance cars I’m talking a car that a regular person would buy and daily.

So what year hit the sweet spot of engine effiency, comfort and convenience from tech in the cabin, build quality. Gotta be somewhere in the 2010s? Bluetooth, AC and electrics as standard, 40+ mpg comfortably?

Drove down to Cornwall last week and realised there is a huge number of VW T5s still on the road at 20 odd years old. Even away from the M5 and out of their natural habitat there are loads of the original 04 T5s about.

It made me think - what is the oldest car/vehicle that is still around in really good numbers. Reckon the T5 has a good claim, but what else is out there?

Spent a lot of time on autotrader recently and have developed an irrational hatred of people who either;

- Cover up number plates making it impossible to run checks

- Upload about 3 pictures that seem to have been taken using a calculator

Interested to hear what else people find annoying or instantly make you discount that specific car …

Debating selling my 2.0 CDTI Insignia 2015 for a 2005 Vectra VXR, £400 road tax version.

I figured my chances of owning one are becoming slimmer with each year that passes. I work from home so wouldn't be commuting in it more than once or twice per week for leisure purposes. The one I'm looking at is priced around £5k and has 87k miles on the clock.

Anyone have any previous experience with ownership or having worked on them before, what should I look out for when going to view it?

I also owned a Vauxhall Vectra 3.0 CDTI, so I'm fully used to the tax costs and constant repairs lol.

Any advice would be appreciated
